Can we assume your bootloader is unlocked? If so , either 1058 or 1053 ROMs will run fine. Kangakat ROM is based off the stock ROM and beanstalk is based off cm11. Kangakat works flawlessly with all the moto goodies while beanstalk has some minor sound bugs and video issues with the camera app

Are you already on kitkat ? You need to have already excepted the kitkat ota for it to flash correctly, also make sure you are using the correct version of twrp recovery

Quick Question (New ROM or update current?)

I rooted and installed a custom ROM back in October. Recently she has had problems with the phone hanging or crashing altogether.
The problem is I can't remember what ROM I had installed and I can't seem to find the name of it anywhere in the menus!
But, can I just download a new ROM should I want to and install? It's rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.
The info should be in the "About Phone" section in settings.
I would recommend getting a more up-to-date ROM. You would have to wipe the data off your phone and flash the new ROM.

Thanks. It's a 4.2.2. Recommendation on a 4.3 ROM?
Carbon ROM is the best I've used. They also have a KitKat version as well

Now that official source has dropped for kit Kat for the vzw g2 most of those issues should be resolved .

They are few and far apart from what they were. But as stated above, once all the aosp Roms are using 4.4 source it will be a thing of the past.
Jackpotcalvin has a cm11 based off 4.4 for the vs980 and people are saying no reboots or sod, plus Bluetooth seems to be a lot better as well

Haven't had one and I've been on 24a for weeks

They fixed the reboots a while ago. It was a kernel issue I think (usually are). That only occurred on custom cm/aosp based roms running 4.4.2 and a 4.2.2 kernel.
Everything has been updated to 4.4.2 source and nice.

nice it was originally why I sold the phone i've been with the moto x but just sold that and will have the g2 again on thursday it is a much better phone I am glad the reboots have been solved.
There are never any reboots/SODs on stock based roms. But even after source etc, CM/AOSP will never be as stable IMO. e.g on my GS3 I would still get a reboot sometimes running AOSP months after the roms were stable.

Which roms are fixed? I'm using CM11 and still getting reboots. I have the latest nightly (4/22) installed. I even did a clean install and I've had like 4 (noticed) reboots since I installed it yesterday.

The aosp Roms still based on the 4.2 kernels are still having issues. Only one that I didn't was liquid smooth.
Mahdi has a beta out right now thats based off the 4.4 kernel, and all that trash is a thing of the past.
Smooth as hell, no reboots/sod's, no lag freezes, Bluetooth is much better.
If you have a Vs980, jackpotcalvin made a cm11 build based off the 4.4 kernel, and it for the most part is positive, but he doesn't work on it anymore, and cm doesn't care enough to develop for our phone anymore. (Too busy with samjunk)
Anyways, Mahdi has a beta that's 4.4 and paranoid android has a 4.4 beta as well. Both are smooth, though Mahdi has all the customization and is smoother for me then what pa is.
Pa is nothing but a base. Not many features.

[Q] Why does Locked Bootloader Matter?

So I have the AT&T S5 with a locked bootloader. I rooted it, put safestrap on it, and installed a custom ROM. Now I read that the Tmobile S5 has an unlocked bootloader, but given that I can root and install custom ROMs, why is the Tmobile variant any better? Also I read locked and encrypted used interchangeably regarding the bootloader, perhaps they are both locked but not encrypted?
Lastly, does an unlocked Tmobile S5 work seamlessly on the AT&T network, it appears the LTE bands overlap so I'm guessing so. Is there a good reason to sell the AT&T variant and get the Tmobile one?
Ungh, stupid AT&T.
You can only flash custom roms based on the stock kernel. With a locked bootloader you'll never be able to flash an aosp rom.

Nor will we be able to flash 4.4.4(or later) when it becomes available. We are stuck waiting for att to release an update, and then we might lose root.

Does this mean that the custom roms that are installed are still ultimately based on the original G900A one, or at least the kernel is the same?

Basically, yes.
The recent OTA will update the kernel and firmware, right? But does towelroot still work? Is it likely that the bootloader will be more difficult to break later if I do update?

[Q] Stock rom without AT&T bloat without root?

Are there stock roms available to flash that don't include any AT&T bloat and if possible, also the other Motorola apps?
If you want to flash a custom ROM or downgrade from stock JB to ICS, you'll need an unlocked bootloader.
Have you tried Holoblur?
