What is it?
With over 4000 users, Eureka-ROM (formerly PwnedCast) is the de facto third-party Chromecast ROM. Maintained by Team Eureka, this ROM adds features such as SSH and Telnet access, DNS customization, and a web-based configuration panel to the stock Chromecast OS, while maintaining the stock OS's simplicity and ease-of-use.
What does it do?
Along with all the features of the stock OS, Eureka-ROM allows you to
Use SSH, ADB, or Telnet to access a root shell
Specify alternate DNS servers to overcome certain region-based restrictions
Use custom application whitelists to bypass Google's application registration requirements
Configure the device using a web-based control panel
View device status and network information
Enable or disable Team Eureka's OTA updates
Select which whitelist provider you want to use (Google, Team Eureka, or custom)
Enable or disable remote services
Set custom DNS servers
Reboot and reset your device
Eureka-ROM also includes several internal changes:
Google's OTA updates are disabled, so your Chromecast won't patch itself.
Instead, OTA's are delivered by a custom Team Eureka update engine (more information).
A custom "Team Eureka" boot animation is installed so you can easily determine that your device is running Eureka-ROM.
The stock recovery image is replaced with FlashCast to further prevent any attempts by Google to patch your device.
The idle screen URL restriction is removed.
A custom kernel image is installed to enable the following features:
Interactive root UART console
In-OS USB device support
CIFS/Samba share support
How do I use it?
Installation
Setup and Install FlashCast v1.2 on a USB drive. This step requires booting your Chromecast once in order to initialize FlashCast. Make sure to follow all the installation instructions given in the FlashCast thread.
Rename the downloaded Eureka-ROM zip file to eureka_image.zip and place it in the root folder of the FlashCast USB drive.
Plug the FlashCast USB drive into the Chromecast, hold down the button, and connect power to boot the device. If you attempt to use an earlier version of FlashCast, such as v1.0, the installation will fail.
Flashing will take about 9 minutes, so be patient! As long as the Chromecast's LED is blinking white, flashing is in progress.
When done flashing, the device will reboot.
Enjoy!
Usage
The custom features of Eureka-ROM are configured through the web-based control panel. To access the panel, use a web browser on your computer or phone to connect to the device's IP address. You can determine the IP address using the Chromecast setup application.
Who made it?
The majority of the ROM consists of the stock OS image provided by Google. ROM-specific features were written by members of Team Eureka. We'd like to also thank the GTVHacker team for their initial exploitation and documentation of the Chromecast and the following individuals for their various contributions:

Soo happy to have this out the door, hope everyone likes the work here - we've been working pretty hard on it over the last few weeks (sorry for the delays in getting this out to you all!)
If anyone has any bugs to report please PM myself or ddggttff3
Just so everyone knows there is a LOT of changes under the hood for this. It implements the EurekaSettings newly defined standards where configuration settings are held within ini files for user/system data and so settings in Eureka panel will be held in future OTA updates! (my favourite setting).
Whitelisting now is hosted locally on the device and syncs the whitelist from Team Eureka servers so if our servers go offline your device doesn't (and of course you have the option to change this to use Google's whitelist servers, the local file (non syncing) or another web based whitelist of your choice (if anyone ever wants to set one up).
I really hope you all love this as much as we love bringing it to you.

Not to mention, I can play Google Santa Tracker now!!! :good:

Holy fudge Batman! I saw the thread, went to my Chromecast and boom updated without my knowing! Thanks for the awesome update .
One question, how do I set my own DNS? I see there is a option to enable or disable, if I disable and reboot the device will I get the option to set it manually?

Click Disable on "Use DHCP" under DNS, then set DNS Provider to Other (please specify) and upon hitting apply you'll see a place to put your custom DNS in.
If you have any issues let me know we have plans to AJAX it and make it nicer but it should be working properly for you. Also no reboot is required for changing DNS provider (although entries cached may not be cleared until a reset of course).

I am using your other ROM .. Just checked and still on build 13300 .. Will we eventually get the update ota or do I need to download this and flash per instructions in op. Thanks for the great work

Thanks for your kind words.
If you reboot your chromecast it should download approx after 5min of booting (if you are running a pwndcast rom with OTA enabled) or you can reflash it using the download without any issues. Either way is fine - just if you flash ensure you are running the latest version of FlashCast as listed in the OP as it is required to flash this rom.

Well it applied everything without a problem. Just wish the Netflix app ran locally on Chromecast that way I would not have to set my router to use Unlocator's DNS but small steps .
My temp is also reading 51'C but I did make it drop 2'C by using the extender cable and having it rest against the wall which has a cooler ambient temp.

I'm not sure what is considered a safe operating temperature but my main development CC runs at 58 C most of the time so I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah I am not too concerned either. It's just interesting how hot these little guys get .

I couldn't find any documentation on the Marvell Armada 1500-mini (88DE3005) SoC that stated operating temperatures, but I did find this Engadget article mentioning a laundry list of video formats the chip can decode (of course that doesn't mean Google has enabled them all).
Temperature-wise I wouldn't be concerned unless it gets into the 70s...

Very cool,I had not updated since v1 so I had to update Flashcast first, but everything went silky smooth....

Right.. Sorry about that, I forgot to add that information to my site.
The updater in v1.5.4 had that problem if the toolkit was in a path with spaces in it. Just replace the Wug_Updater.exe in the toolkit directory with the new one from v1.5.5: http://wug.rootxs.com/NRT_extras/Wug_Updater.exe
Then try again, it should work without problems. it was a catch 22 for me.. I couldn't auto update the updater..lol, but now its good

After trying for over an hour and going through all three driver methods I cannot get the NRT to connect to my phone. When the phone is rebooted into Fastboot, the volume keys do not work for changing selection, and the computer does not detect anything plugged in via USB suggesting the phone freezes whenever it it put into Fastboot mode.
Model is a Nexus S i9020a running 4.1.1 on JRO03E.
This is on an ASUS K53S notebook running Windows 7 x64.

I had something similar happen to me on one machine. What I did to fix it was start at the beginning of the guide.. i.e uninstalling everything completely and rebooting my computer. Then I used driver solution#3 (RAW drivers), with a different usb port. The key is rebooting your computer after uninstalling everything.
If it persistently doesn't work, maybe I can help you out through gchat sometime.. not tonight though, I am still cranking out this next toolkit release.

Yeah I did the uninstalls and reboots. Followed the guide exactly. After it didn't work I even took the next step in killing all unnecessary system processes and disabling antivirus.
I'm going to get another notebook that's been freshly formatted and try it again next weekend.

Maybe you could try forcing the "Naked Drivers" by 1wayjonny. When you use driver solution #3 windows just scans the sub-directories of the RAW_Driver folder in the toolkit and chooses the ones it thinks are the "best".
Use this longer path instead to force it to check only in the folder which contains those universal drivers:
Code:
[NRT_TOOLKIT_DIRECTORY]\data\Drivers\RAW_Drivers\NAKED_Drivers
Let me know if that works. Cheers.

Yeah, sorry about that. I switched my site over to a dedicated IP to deal with increased web traffic and some of the new toolkit communications coming in v1.6, so the DNS needed to propagate. I still have more work to do on v1.6 but my site should be back up and running now. Hopefully the dedicated IP will help me resolve some of the web hosting issues I have been struggling with.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience and lack of communication during the temporary outage. I just was busy traveling for Thanksgiving plans.
Cheers,

This program looks to be something VERY useful, however, it seems to be a little too late for it to pick up steam, but nice to see support for dying devices

Thankyou for Nexus S thread!
Now I've 4.1.2, if i change to a custom rom, your tool will continue to work for flashing something or to "back to stock" function or it work only on official nexus rom?

I have been coding like crazy and I am releasing a major update by Saturday that will support all the latest Nexus devices and will make updating it in the future nearly instantaneous. Your comment is just frustrating.

[ROM][old|newbl] CM10.1 - tonyp - T-Build 05

°°°
Attention: This ROM is discontinued!
It still works great as a daily driver and got a large userbase, but as CM10.1 has been abandoned there won't come any new updates anymore!
After working really hard on it for more than 2 month(!) I proudly present my first CM10.1 T-Build :fingers-crossed:
I put lots and lots of effort into it to create a great, smooth and bugfree rom experience for you guys.
I tried to fix all huge bugs on CM10.1 like bluetooth fast forwarding and the wifi hotspot.
Additionally I took the time to create a non-neon gapps package, as the official 4.2 one does only support neon.

CM Known Bugs & Fixes:
This list shows what has been done so far.
As you can guess by the sheer amount of the fixed bugs there has been put lots and lots of time into this ROM.
And don't forget about all the awesome work pengus77 has put into the kernel - without him we would still suffer from bsods and huge battery drain.
Do NOT post or ask about stuff on the known bugs list!
The bug is listed here - I don't need to get reminded that it's there.
If there's progress or an ETA or anything we will post about it - if not there's not.
I really mean it! Do not ask, it's just annoying. It might only lead to us abandoning the work on the bug.
Oh check the "plans for the next build" section below as well.
But of course you're very welcome to post a decent fixing idea or development related note in'te the CM10.1 development discussion.
Hall of shame of people who ignored my warnings and still posted about already known bugs.
If someone continuously breaks this threads rules you'll land on my ignore list.
tonyp (damn!)
CM10.1 specific bugs:
Bluetooth is accellerating on many headsets fixed (by replacing the bdroid bt stack with bluez)
Wifi hotspot isn't working fixed (by forwardporting the CM10 internal hotspot handling to CM10.1)

HDMI isn't usable not fixed
no signal after airplane mode bug (double press data or reboot to gain it back) not fixed

Plans for future builds:
Bugs fixes:
-
Other:
GCC 4.7 experiments
CREDITS:
arcee and the CM team for all the work they did.
pengus77 for his awesome work at the kernel and new bootloader.
niko (Andrei E.) for his work on including the bluez stack into android.
marsgod for fixing the callbug on the old bootloader.
wkpark for the cracked ICS bootloader, the ramhack idea, and all is valid input.
goo.im, AndroidFileHost and vadonka for providing me great hosting services.
I got a bug - can I report it?:
If you want me to take the time to help and fix your bugs I expect you to take the time and do this properly!
Quick check: Did you do a full wipe before installing build 01? If not you need to do that first!
Check the known bugs section. If it's listed or mentioned there, drop it (and wait patiently if it'll get fixed eventually).
Use the search function and try to find if others have been posted about it.
You're only at the app and can't properly search within a thread?
Then wait until you're at home and report the bug from there!
Check the last 3 pages if the bug has been mentioned there.
You still with me? All of this takes too much of your precious time?
Then use another ROM!
Still nothing? Then report the bug in this thread.
Always attach logs to your bugreport!! Bug reports without logs will get ignored completely.
Study this for more details: [Reference] How to get useful logs
People who fail in doing this properly will get into the hall of shame.
Downloads:
ROM:
By downloading and/or using this ROM you agree to the guidlines of this thread:
Read and understand the entire OP!
Yes, it takes a couple minutes - but what's that compared to the 2+ month I put into the ROM??
Don't be a douchebag!
Follow the rules!
If you agree click the button and download the ROM :fingers-crossed:
Download: http://tonyp.basketbuild.com
Make sure to download the correct version for your bootloader!
Mirror: http://goo.im/devs/tonyp
Gapps:
This ROM already has tiny gapps included! That's a minimum gapps package (<20mb)
I put a lot of effort into integrating the required apps and libs and tested it carefully.
I choose this approach because of the many problems that the standard package causes to our non-neon Tegra2 phone.
Included are only the most basic (g)apps like Playstore, Talk (with working videochat), Calendar sync provicer etc.
If you want to remove the included gapps flash this package after flashing the ROM:
CM10.1-gapps-remover-tonyp.zip
For those of you who want the "full" gapps package including Google Now, TTS, Faceunlock, voice search etc. I worked on a full non-neon gapps package.
Get it from this thread: Non-neon Gapps (Android 4.2) dev-discussion thread
Do NOT flash any other gapps package - they aren't compatible with our phone!
If you accidently did that then format /system and reflash the ROM.
This is necessary to prevent bugs like like the keyboard closing while typing.
Addons:
You can download my officially supported addons from the addons folder:
http://goo.im/devs/tonyp/CM10.1-T-Builds/addons
This ROM has native support for Quickmemo.
For more details read this post.
I've build patches for OpenPdroid and PDroid2.0.
For more details read this post.
Kernel:
kowalski kernel thread
This ROM comes with the awesome kowalski kernel by pengus77.
For new versions (which come regularly) check out his thread!
Various:
TWRP recovery for both bootloaders
my modded adb drivers
Instructions:
Updating to a newer T-Build::
No wipes or system-format needed!
Choose the correct ROM for your bootloader
Flash the ROM
Flash the latest kowalski kernel
Tiny Gapps are included, so there's no need to flash gapps if those are enough for you.
If you want the full gapps package use the non-neon one I provide here.
If you want to remove gapps flash this package after flashing the ROM: CM10.1-gapps-remover-tonyp.zip
Reboot
Coming from another ROM:
If you're on the newbl either use pengus CWM 6.0.2.5 or my TWRP!
Other recoveries won't work.
oldbl users can use any CWM >5 or TWRP version.
Do a full wipe!
Just do the wipe, you will be thankful afterwards when everything does run better.
Format /system
Choose the correct ROM for your bootloader
Flash the ROM
Flash the latest kowalski kernel
Tiny Gapps are included, so there's no need to flash gapps if those are enough for you.
If you want the full gapps package use the non-neon one I provide here.
If you want to remove gapps flash this package after flashing the ROM: CM10.1-gapps-remover-tonyp.zip
Reboot
Don't restore system apps (like Settings) or system data (like Wifi data) with TitaniumBackup!
My personal recommended configuration:
Go to Settings - Performance - Processor and change the "Maximum CPU frequency" to 1200 (or even 1500) and "Set on Boot"
Open the KowalskiManager
enable the 3 power saving options at the top
lower TX Power to 11
Change the SD readaheads to 512
enable dynamic fsync
This ROM comes pre-configured with the following memory management changes:
zRAM enabled with 18%
tonyp memory management enabled
purgeable assets enabled
Changelog:
T-Build 01
T-Build 02
T-Build 03
T-Build 04
T-Build 05
Let me leave with a couple more notes:
This ROMs focus is stability! It's intention is to be a daily driver without the need to constantly flash new updates - that's why I kept you guys waiting that long and didn't release my daily testbuilds (more like 3 builds a day actually) which haven't been perfectly stable, yet.
That's why I took CM10.1 M3 as a base and don't merge in nightly features - everything in this ROM should be well tested and fully working.
I only picked memoryleak fix that's been discovered after M3.
I won't cherrypick each and every feature that's in some other ROM!
If there's a real useful addition that I personally like I will do it, but the fancy stuff has to go into other ROMs.
You guys know me - I am mostly patient and don't mind slight offtopic posts.
For completely offtopic posts you can use the CM 10.1 discussion thread.
... but I hate people who are lazy and don't do their own research. I spent countless hours on this ROM, I think I can expect you to spent a little time before asking questions.
I am not a vendor who's obligated to release a ROM for the phone - I am doing this in my free time for you and me.
So please - don't behave like a total noob. Or [email protected] and I will have a busy fishlapping time
F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions:
How can I swap the mounting points for internal SD card and external SD card?
If you're on the new bootloader, flash this script via Recovery (thanks, @C0D3N1N3R!). For those on the old bootloader, you need this one instead (thanks, @SWTR!).
Which gapps package should I use with this ROM?
Seriously? You haven't been paying attention, have you? Go read the posts above this one!
Which PDroid version should I use?
It's a matter of personal preference, actually. Try both and see which one fits your needs the best. Keep in mind that if you're switching between Openpdroid and PDroid 2.0 (or viceversa) you need to uninstall the app and re-flash the ROM first, or else this kitten will die and it'll be in your conscience forever! I'm serious!!
Just flashed this ROM via recovery and can't get past the boot logo, what's wrong?
Chances are that you're using the wrong Recovery. Try pengus' CMW v6.0.2.5 and flash the ROM again. If the problem persists, check that the ROM zip file isn't corrupted (see each build's md5 hash on tonyp's goo.im CM10.1 folder). If none of that helps, then you better get Tony some logs
How can I know which bootloader my device is using?
An easy way to indentify this is by seeing the bootloader logo that appears when you turn on your device: white -> old bootloader, pink -> new bootloader.
How can I set a custom DPI on this ROM?
You can either use the Google Play DPI Fix Tool, or Tony's personal recommendation: Xposed in combination with Xposed App Settings (link down, use this one or this one instead for now) (see reference by @rugglez).
Viber doesn't work on this ROM, I can't even make a call. What can I do?
According to what we have read, recent versions of Viber won't work on CM 10+ for our device. Apparently, the developers of the app were been notified about the issue and they might look into it soon. Worry not, my friend, since not everything is lost. According to @engine24, Viber version 2.3.6.338 seems to be working alright. Make sure you uninstall your current version of Viber first before installing this one, though!
Battery drain is a bit too high, what's happening?
If you just flashed this ROM, please do one or two full battery charge cycles and see if it helps. Also, check on BetterBatteryStats for rogue apps keeping your device awake (and this is definitely worth a read!).
My screen goes bright before unlocking / after locking?
It's a known issue when using autobrightness. There's no fix for this at the moment.
My GPS takes ages to get a lock, how can I fix it?
Try the latest version available of the Google Specific No-SSL AGPS patch by @crypted. Unpack the gps.conf file and copy it into /system/etc/ using a root file explorer (set permissions to rw-r--r--). Optionally, you can add ro.ril.def.agps.mode = 1 to build.prop (find it in /system folder) but only if you're still having problems after applying the patch.
And, in case you're wondering, the answer is no: this patch won't be integrated into the ROM, so don't ask ... or will it?
Edit: that damn Tony added it to T-Build 3, so this is no longer necessary (unless he decides to drop it hehe)
Hardware Search key is not working!
Go to Settings > System > Hardware keys and make sure that Enable custom actions is checked. Also, change Search key action to In-app Search.

Contains just the apps and options installed.
What you want to add will have to be obtained from Google-Play or any other sources.
Please, don't report bugs if you are not using the installed Dhollmen Kernel.
In case of questions or comments, you must indicate additional apps, tweaks or installed "optimizations".
if you insert images, do it in a 'hide' tag. This hide your image until an user click to show it.
I assume you has installed a suitable Recovery and know how to perform the required steps.
Keep in mind that Antutu and others related apps give you very similar values, regardless of the Rom used.
In such apps, OC influence on speed, but its goal is to evaluate the hardware, not the Rom.
Don't use any kind of overclock before three consecutive stability test in Antutu.
> Rom take a long time to boot after installing.
It is quite normal if ART runtime is used as applications are self-compiled at first boot time, after installing a new Rom or changing to ART.
> Applications are slow to start after installing.
It is quite normal if ART is used because apps have self-compiled before first use.
Although it may seem at times, the Rom is not hung, just have to wait.

> Google Apps (Gapps).
All Gapps packages available are virtually identical.
Only differ, from each other, in the amount of installed applications.
Two different packages must be never installed as likely to cause Google applications FC.
The Dhollmen Gapps, being valid for any Rom, are specifically adapted for installation on it.
> Viper4 - Convolver - IRS.
This application controls the System Sound FX.
It also includes a number of advanced pre-equalizer settings (made by others) that are the IRS whose installation files requested.
Access to Convolver (manager of the IRS) is obtained by selecting the option Expert in Experience Settings.
Using another equalizer (provided by external applications) usually interfere with it.
You can only have one active equalizer in the system, but if you want to use another one, kindly Viper4 can be turned off.
> Restoring backups.
It is very common Titanium Backup (or similar) problems in Rom.
If backup /data partition are made and, after a change of Rom, restored, usually side effects will occur.
In this directory and subdirectories it contains, there are many configuration files and internal databases.
When it comes to a specific application should not be a problem as long as it is not part of the Rom.
When sub-directories containing settings are restored, the likelihood of problems increases exponentially.
For example, all Roms have a Settings application, but the content of his configurations differs between them and is not interchangeable.
Under no circumstances you should restore /system partition apps.

I do not want to look like I refuse to answer it, but now I'm not focused on as I solved each of the bugs I found.
Note that I have made several thousand code modifications by adding, modifying or deleting lines.
I started my work on past July, then I abandoned her to get involved in Carbon and then restarted in past October.
When I got the initial repo version this included numerous previous changes.
If your bearings me a little about these problems, I can try to locate code sections related and, perhaps then, will serve you as an aid.

Can someone else with a 3113 or 3110 running this ROM test their mic to see if its working properly?
I went to use Google now an noticed it could not hear me. Then went to sound recorder, same results. Just to be sure, I opened pitchlab, an app I use to tune my guitar and a few other instruments and still no response from mic. Didn't see it in "known bugs" in the thread so that's why I'm asking. I did compare the libs and modules for mic from a previous nandroid of aokp that i know the mic worked just to make sure it was all there. All is there, like it should be..
Ill pastebin a logcat if noone else reports this but I figured I'd ask first.
For reference I installed it clean like so:
Did a full format of
/system
/cache
/data
/sdcard
Then installed the latest ROM.zip and gapps from first post. Everything else in the ROM works beautifull. Fast and smooth. Using for about three days as a daily driver before I noticed the mic problem. Didn't experience any other bugs and I have been through every setting in customization available to get it setup how I like.
P.S. using built-in kernel. And no Xposed or modules
Edit: Fixed.. updated my recovery and re-flashed a clean flash. Rom works quite nice. Fast and smooth. Ill report bugs if I find any.
Stable , fast and good battery life. Tablet UI interface it's wonderful! I test mic later

This ROM is a joint effort put together by @bri315317, @ted77usa and myself. This is the ROM that we believe everyone has been waiting for, it is cross compatible with both the S5 and S5A, is designed to be fast, stable and easily accept mods and themes. Our goal was to provide one ROM that is easily maintained for both devices. It uses a proprietary scripting system designed to detect and correctly configure multiple devices (in this instance the S5 and S5A) it can be expanded to include many more. We hope you all enjoy this ROM and our goal is to make it easier to maintain and support rather than trying to devide our time amongst several different ROMs.

The following issues may be encountered:
1. Fingerprint scanner sensitivity may be encountered when attempting to change secure lockscreen type
if this is encountered the alternate password still works to allow access.
2. Screen on notification for text messages even though a toggle is included may not work properly.
3. Bluetooth devices may disconnect on outgoing or incoming calls (not reproducable by me)
one user reports no problems with BT, one user reporting this issue. even tho i have only the one
report i am amaking mention of this issue here as it is a definite nuisance.

Reboot to SS Recovery
Special Note:
1. Private Mode - Has been removed from the build, without the accompanying knox components Private Mode remains non-functional. I know that there are ROM's out there with Private Mode working however, I have not had time to research exactly what is required in order to make it play well with custom ROMs it is possible that it just requires the missing folder structure and nothing more but I have not had time to delve into that as of yet. In deference to performance and functionality most accompanying code has been removed.
2. A.R.T. Runtime - A.R.T. runtime even on a good day is tempermental at best, Google did not intend it to be any type of daily use environment and since this ROM is de-odexed the system has a dificult time handling the conversion process from Dalvik to A.R.T. therefore I have chosen to temporarily disable this feature through the developer options in settings. All of the code for this feature still exists within the ROM itself and can be turned back on fairly easily, my intentions are to wait until Google decides if this is going to be mainstream or drops it from use.
Major enhancement to the flashing process
I have included custom scripts that are called during the flash process (I originally wrote and implemented these in the HTC forums). These scripts in conjunction with the updater-script are able to better handle the process of wiping /system and /data and also include the automatic backup and restore of all user level apps from /data/app. The scripts intentionally ignore all coresponding application data backing up only the core apk itself. this offers you a completely clean start from scratch not only for all system apps but all of your personal apps as well. Now when flashing there is no more need to remember to wipe data or system just copy the zip to your sdcard, reboot to SS Recovery and flash and your done.

Hello DivestOS,
1 - Do you need to reparation internal memory with Clamor's script before flashing this rom ?
2 - Is it set to permissive like in the latest voron00's LineageOS release or to enforcing by default ?
3 - Can you update it via OTA ?
4 - Does it drain battery when the phone is switched off ?

1. Yes for the 17.1 build, there is however a 16.0 and 15.1 build available that doesn't need repartitioning.
2. No, DivestOS is *always* enforcing. DivestOS will never ever release a build with permissive SELinux.
3. Yes, DivestOS offers OTA updates for every device since 2017/05/30.
4. When the phone is asleep, no. When the phone is powered off, no.

I agree, this phone is amazing, never age ...
I got it working on my phone.
I used Clamor's script and everything went almost smooth but have two more questions:
1 - Is it normal that signature can't be verified when installing via twrp ?
2 - On first boot-up rom got stuck on divestos splash screen and didn't want to load entire OS...
I rebooted the phone and on second try it started without any problem and greeted with configuration screen, is that ok ?

1. It is not recommended to use TWRP with DivestOS, except for a select few devices. You are intended to use the DivestOS recovery.
2. That is expected, it is a known issue. It occurs due to the modem failing to start after the data partition is encrypted for the first time. The workaround is to wait 5 minutes on the very first boot, power it off, then reboot it. All should be OK after.
@voron00 Are you going to release LOS 17.1 (w/ March security patches) as well? Or 16.0 is a better option for mako in your opinion?

It loooks like @varon00 will continue to support only 16, will it impact divestos 17 releases ?
I'm not sure about @voron00 's reasoning to not make 17.1 builds.
But DivestOS 17.1, based on their sources has been fully functional by my standards for nearly a year now.

I redid everything again, used fastboot to flash recommended recovery and sideloaded rom from there again. The only downside are apps for banking that require ggle. Do you have any recommendation on that, should I go with open gapps ?
@kjsu0 please kindly read through the divestos.org website. Most of the questions you are asking are all already documented there.
DRM, such as Widevine, is not supported on DivestOS.
Root, such as Magisk, is not supported on DivestOS.
Runtime modification frameworks, such as Xposed, are not supported on DivestOS.
Google Apps, such as Open GApps, are not supported on DivestOS.
Any extra flashable ZIP modifications are not supported on DivestOS.
DivestOS has a strong focus on security, privacy, and freedom. Most of those things are not compatible with our ideals.
This looks like a great project, SkewedZeppelin.
I love the increased privacy focus and built-in OTA support.
I have a question about the custom hosts file. I know DivestOS doesn't recommend using root, but what if we prefer other options like AdAway to manage the hosts file instead?
I'm definitely going to flash DivestOS on the mako. Probably will go with 17.1 instead of the 18 build for now.
Thanks again for starting and maintaining this project!

DivestOS includes a fairly extensive HOSTS file. Assuming you do not install (m)any proprietary apps and use Mull/Fenix/Bromite with uBlock Origin there should be no visible ads or telemetry phoning home.
As DivestOS does not support root, AdAway is incompatible.
If you want more domains blocked you can use DNS66, however it functions using a local VPN, so you won't be able to use any other VPN apps such as Orbot.
I flashed 17.1 a few hours ago. I did run into the splash screen first boot bug that kjsu0 encountered. I think this should be noted in the first post or on the DivestOS website so people don't get confused, but other than that it's working pretty good so far. Thanks for all your work, SkewedZeppelin!
I looked at the hosts file for DivestOS and I feel like there might be too many sources. I also prefer personalDNSfilter over DNS66 since it has CNAME uncloaking built-in. I guess I'll just use Adguard DNS for private DNS as an alternative.
Calling/data on the latest 18.1 build works thanks to a recent fix from @voron00!
18.1 should now be daily drivable.
@SkewedZeppelin - Could you add the following patch to your rom?
https://android-review.googlesource.com/c/platform/frameworks/base/+/147266/1/packages/SystemUI/src/com/android/systemui/statusbar/policy/DeadZone.java
I've recently experienced the dreaded navigaton bar deadzone issue as described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/wip-fix-dead-navbar-workarounds-and-fixes.3243822/
Edit - Looks like the patch was added a long time ago to AOSP... I guess my mako is finally showing its age.
To anyone who's wondering - DivestOS is still being actively updated. Last update was July 30th.
Thanks to OP for supporting mako to this date. Never thought Android 11 will work this flawlessly in 2012 device.
Wondering if we can get A12 and Material YOU, but then again, it will have serious UI performance problems
Hello DivestOS:
First of all, thank you very much for still supporting Nexus 4 today. I read your post and I still don’t quite understand some points. I would like to ask:
1. What are the specific steps for "resized /system"?
2. After installing Divest OS, can I install other applications on it
at will? Such as: Facebook,Whatsapp.......
3. If it feels inappropriate, can I install another ROM freely?
Please forgive my ignorance, cos I just started to touch the flashing and knowing that Nexus 4 is still supported by community, so I want to try it
Thank you again!

1. you can use @voron00's repartition script https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GNbxlqG78WYOeXBxgmfGgMmsf02KMVOX/view or @Clamor's script https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/repartition-nexus-4-repartition-mako-8gb-16gb-ua-twrp.3844383/
2. yes, you can install Aurora Store from F-Droid in order to install such proprietary apps
3. of course, just flash another recovery from fastboot and flash any ROM as you please

Okay, got it, thank you, please keep working hard, and may God bless !
Very nice, cool to see Android 11 on the ole Nexus 4.
However the lack of microG signature spoofing is a deal-breaker for me.

I have no short term plans of including microG.
