I am getting the "maximum roll-out exceeded" message on my device, so I tried to plug in the gear to my computer, and update via Kies. However, when I plug in my gear, Kies does not stop searching for new gear firmware. Kies will recognize that a gear is plugged into the computer, but it does not display the current Gear firmware verson, and the line that is supposed to display the latest firmware version only says "searching..."
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, was anyone else able to fix the problem?
You need to run Kies 2.7 for th gg. Kies 3 does not support gg. Go figure

It appears that I have version 2.6. I tried Kies 3, it told me that the gear was not supported, so I went back to 2.6, where I had the searching problem
I just saw a note in another thread about installing a latent version of Kies to allow for support of devices that are not running newer versions of firmware. Going to give that a shot. I'll post my findings shortly.

The earlier version of Kies found the device and updated the firmware to MK7. All is working well now!
Thanks to everyone!
I'm on Kies 2.6 & W8.1 But kies not seeing my gear, usb debugging is on

Never thought I would have to make this kind of thread... But anyway. I was going to update to 4.3. So I updated to the new firmware. That ran fine and I figured I should wipe my phone. When I got to twrp I noticed the buttons weren't working. So I shut down and restarted normally. Phone boots up fine, but the screen still isn't working. Then I noticed that twrp had a new version. So I download that, but flashing from fastboot doesn't work. It gets to writing recovery then fails(remote: not allowed). I am s-off. SO CONFUSED
tldr: phone screen is not working, can not update to twrp 2.6.3.0 to flash a 4.3 rom
Downgrade tp firmware to 1.29...will send link.

Hi folks,
Posting on behalf of a friend, he recently switched sides from iPhone 5 to Note 3. After rooting his phone using Kingo 1.8, he accidentally renamed couple of folders under "System", most probably something related to SuperUser in order to make "Good for Enterprise" working on a rooted phone.
He took a system update shortly after getting the phone, MJ5 -> NB4, but now his device settings show both (Snapshot Attached). I would appreciate if someone can help us go back to stock.
There is a tutorial to return to MJ5 in the general section

here is the link that grey diggy was talking about. it does work - i have used it. it will take you back to MJ5 stock. just read and follow the directions. once you get everyting downloaded it should take about 20-30 minutes depending on how comfy you are with the tars and odin and what not.

He just tried it and it failed with an "invalid parameter" in Heimdall Suite in step 6.
He made it trough step 5 successfully including the "detect".
Make sure he is not in a USB 3.0 port. I had all sorts of trouble doing that.

I don't have a usb 3 port on that laptop. I used the usb 3 cable that came from samsung and I'm running windows 8.1 pro with media center.
Windows 8 is an asset when it comes to this stuff...
Try a different USB port anyways.
If that doesn't work, try to find a computer with Windows 7.

I'm not hijacking the thread, I'm the stupid friend the OP is trying to help. This is the error message I get from Heimdall.
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...
Setting up interface...
Initialising protocol...
ERROR: Failed to send data!Releasing device interface...
I'll load Windows 7 tonight. Try with different USB cables (does usb 2 cable instead of usb 3 matter???) and different ports.
I never said you were hijacking the thread... I accidently quoted myself while trying to edit... so Idk if you think I was insinuating that you were hijacking. .. I figured you were the OP's friend with the issues.
The cable never mattered for me. It wouldn't hurt to try a different cable though.

Solved
I tried running in Windows 8.1 in administrator mode and compatibility settings for Windows 7. It wasn't working in Windows 8.1.
Fresh install of Windows 7 did the trick. I was able to finish running through that walk-through and I'm now rooted on MJ5 (downgraded from NB4 OTA). Thanks again for all your help. Now I just gotta make a proper backup of this before I break it again.
I will be completely honest I am a complete retard when understanding how rooting works... But I have done the process a dozen of times and I havent had any major problems but for this root I cant figure it out! So here is my problem....
Verizon sent me an update to the newest system version (98.72.189.XT894.Verizon.en.US) so naturally I downloaded and installed the update and it UNROOTED my phone! I no longer have safestrap and superuser access and such. So I have tried different techniques and different programs on rooting this bad boy such as Motofail and Razrs_edge and I still cant get it to work... Both programs have the usual errors of "Permission Denied" or "Unable to". So all and all.... I NEED HELP!
Here is what I do know like im 99% sure about
-I have all the drivers and their is no yellow triangle and I have motorola device manager.
-I have Unknown Sources checked and USB debugging checked.
-I also forced stopped smart actions cuz I read on a post that I was causing problems while rooting.
Here is what I do NOT know
-Which USB mode do I need to be on? Mass Storage? MTP? idk!
-Do it matter that I am on 4.1.2?
Again I want to thank you for your time and I really would like some help with this darn thing! I am kinda desperate right now..

They are located in the phone app settings. At least that is where mine are located.
If you can not locate them, I would do a backup and restore of your current firmware to see if that fixes the issue.

You're phone is doing it automatically.
On att and t mobile it's automatic.

For AT&T and T-Mobile users, there is no setting you need to apply to your account or any interaction with customer service at all. They upgrade the network equipment to allow VoLTE traffic, and if your phone is capable it works. Not all phones are capable, and some — like the Galaxy Note 3 — need to be on the latest software. It's likely that all future "flagship" models will be VoLTE capable.
Not true. Tmobile has the options to turn it off.

Okay I figured out what the problem is. The contacts application X-note Rom uses is the international version instead of the Tmobile version which is 4.4.4-N910TUVU1ANK4.
I am going to try restoring the Tmobile version using Nandroid manager.

You will need to sideload the stock rom now. If you search the entire forum the answers are there. I am very busy or I would be able to help you out more.
