[Q] Mackay ROM KK - missing apps - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have installed newest Mackay ROM 21 Dec. from this thread: Mackay ROM thread. Installation goes without any problems. When rom boots up I figured out there is missing Kernel Settings (when I tap Mackay kernel settings nothing happens), there is also no folder such "/system/mackay". I tried also "problem solution flash":
If you get an error (like metadata or anything), do the following:
-Download omni-4.4-kernel_selinux.zip from:
http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Samsung/Galaxy+S/MackayROM/KK
-Flash this kernel from you current recovery
-Choose reboot recovery (this should bring you to a blue-colored TWRP)
-Continue with the steps above
Click to collapse
After reboot into recovery I had same 2.6.3 oragne-colored TWRP (why?), I reflashed again Mackay ROM and nothing changed, still no kernel settings.

If it's omni based Mackay as opposed to cm based mackay rom then there was a bug that made Mackay settings not open, or to be more exact it force closed when you tried to open it..
I'm using cm based Mackay which has working Mackay settings, and I'm unsure if the bug has been fixed in the latest omni version. Best thing to do would be post in the omni Mackay thread, or just search the thread and you may find your answer....

Installing ROM by CWM issue

Hello. I'm going to install the new android into I9000. In the previous thread you recommend me the Semaphore kernel and Jelly Bean ROMs.
I installed the Semaphore from this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786220 by odin and I need to install zip file with my new ROM by clockworkmod recovery. I tried to install three types of ROMs: cyanogenmod10, c-rom, tsunami, however everyone shows 'error [path to file] (status 0) - installation aborted' when the installation starts.
What am I doing wrong?

Status 0 is due to having wrong CWM on you phone, likely you are on ICS ROM and using JB kernel and trying to Flash JB ROM
thanks for your answer,
i'm using semaphore JB 2.3.0 Kernel (URL in first post) - the author writes:
This is a kernel based on the pawitp's one and it works for Android 4.1.1 JB ROMs.
This version works for Jelly Bean ROMs

So could you recommend me other kernel + ROM? Why it happens if i have JB kernel and JB rom?

thanks for so fast answer
I tried the newest version 'experimental' (10/8) and next one "nightly" (10/3), but it looks that the problem are not in ROMs. I tried c-rom, tsunami and there is the same problem.

yes kernel will work but CWM does not, so flash the ICS kernel to solve your problem , you are currently on ICS, so use ICS kernel and upgrade to JB, once in JB , use JB kernel
sorry, but i don't understand. i should install the ics kernel, e.g. from here: http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/gt-i9000-ics and next i need to install JB kernel from sdcard in cwm of ics?

One you have an ICS kernel, your CWM will be able to Flash a JB ROM in recovery, once you have a working JB ROM, its up to you , IF you would like to have JB Kernel , just Flash that
thank you @xsenam
now i have JB ROM and JB Kernel.
Everything works, but in GB i had the Semaphore settings and now i didn't see that, only Superuser. Should it be in the apps?

sadly i have one more issue, i've inserted my sim card and the phone shows: mobile network not available, when i'm going to search mobile networks it shows: 'error while searching for networks'. I tried to ON&OFF aeroplane mode (as i read in google), but it doesn't help.

just check if you still have your IMEI, if not use a solution from My Android Solutions to fix it
BUT make sure you inserted your sim card in the correct direction
No i don't have an IMEI (checked by *#06# code, shows only "IMEI" without the number). So, if i didn't make a backup i need to flash an old ROM, go to CWM and make a wipe, delete EFS folder with root explorer and install the ICS kernel with Phone EFS Clear ticked?
I have next problem. My i9000 resets byself and goes to CWM. He made it for three times when i didn't use him.

NO, all you need to do is , was written in above link
1) Download Root Explorer from Play Store and use it to
2) Search you internal SD card for sdcard/backup/efs
3) Copy nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5 and nv.log paste them into /efs in your Phone memory
4) Reboot to get back your original IMEI
or
you can start from the beginning.. go back to GB 2.36 (use a JVU ROM + Root, upgrade to ICS CM 9 and than to CM10

if you have cwm(any version)
you can install whatever rom you have
if you are on other bases like GB or ICS and trying to install JB or new versions of cm10
you should do the installing process three times
there will be an error after first try and on the second it will install but you will get bootloop and you have to take out battery put it back and boot to recovery with three button combo and start the third time of install process after that do a restart and you are done
good luck :good:
thanks for your reply, but I solve that problem with @xsenman help. Now I have issue with mobile network.
@xsenman: i understand that i need to install old rom from your post and just make upgrade to ics? Or should I make any other steps in this tutorial?

[Q] ROM flash and data issue.

This is my device information now:
Rocket ROM XXLSZ
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 -906407
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT date information
And I want to update to [KitKat][4.4][Omni]Team Asylum Omni 4.4 Naughties™ .
Does I belong to the follow:
"If coming from any other safe kernel except Philz older than v3.99 or Speedmod:
1. Copy Gapps and Asylum Omni Zips to your SDCard
2. Boot into Recovery
3. Wipe data and dalvik cache
3. Flash Asylum Omni zip
4. Flash Gapps zip
7. Reboob
8. Don't restore system stuff or apps + data using Titanium, it might cause issues"
If I can't restore apps +data, can I download the apps and just restore the data?
I can post question due to the policy, so I post here. Any reply may help a lot, thanks!
You will first need to install a kernel that has CWM version > 6.0.43
then you can follow the instruction you followed. Don't restore data of system apps. User apps and data works just fine.

As long as philz version is greater than 3.99 you can flash directly without flashing other kernel. However to be on the safer side you can always flash the kernel recommended by asylum team first followed flashing the rom and gapps. Hope this helps.
to flash 4.4 you will need to flash a SELinux compatible kernel which is CM 10.2 / Raw R4 or Asylum kernel..

[Q][SOLVED] Unable To Use Any 4.4 Roms

Hello,
Recently I have been trying to use a 4.4 based ROM, on each ROM I get the same error, no Baseband, IME or Signal.
I have flashed all the GT-I9305T Modems from [MODEMS] I9305 CWM Flashable Modems and yet I get the same thing.
When I down-grade the OS back to anything below 4.4 (for example 4.3.x based ROMs)I get the Baseband, IME and Signal back.
I use Clockwork Recovery v6.0.4.5 to flash the ROMs. (from the CM11 Unofficial thread)
Image: Signal Section
Has anyone found a solution to this error?
Well after going back to CyanogenMod v10.2 I re-installed Mobile Oden then re-flashed the recovery image I had downloaded earlier, once that was done attempted to install CM11 4.4 Unofficial and now I have a signal and baseband.
Maybe something went wrong with Clockwork Recovery or the ROM the first time. No clue.

I have this problem too. Did you flash from the original 4.1.2 firmware or samsung based 4.1.2 rom to the 4.4 custom rom?

I had gone from Stock 4.1.1 to CyanogenMod v10.2 Nightly Official to CyanogenMod v11 Unofficial
After getting the issues with CyanogenMod v11 Unofficial I went back down to CyanogenMod v10.2 Nightly Official.
I have solved this issue by getting the CWM Recovery version 6.0.4.5 - 6.75MB (img file format) from the CM11 thread here.
Once downloaded I used MobileOden from here to flash it.
Upon doing this it seemed to install and signal and is working fine now ;3
Hope this helps you.

[Q] CM 10.2 to Mackay ROM Freeze on Boot

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and this is my first post. First of all I would like to thanks pawitp and kasper_h for giving new life for our old device SGS i9000. I just wanted to share my experience installing Mackay ROM and wanted to know why my device freeze upon boot after flashing this ROM.
Steps done:
1. Coming from SlimBean (4.3), flashed CM 10.2
2. Do a factory data reset, wipe system/data/dalvik/cache
3. Flash Mackay ROM and GApps
4. Upon restart; freeze on Samsung device logo, waited for a long time but did not continue to kernel/boot/anim.
5. Tried to boot recovery, but still just freeze on Samsung device logo
6. Boot into Download Mode and flash Semaphore kernel from Cyanogen using heimdal tool
7. Flash Mackay ROM then Mackay Kernel then GApps
8. Successful boot!
I've been following Mackay ROM development and very satisfied with it, but every time I will flash/update Mackay ROM, I must remember to flash also the corresponding Mackay Kernel over it, otherwise I'll have to go through steps 4 to 7 above to fix the boot freeze.
Now, my question is, why my device freeze on boot? Isn't Mackay ROM already include the kernel?
I wanted to help in development even by just testing the ROM, but newbies are not allowed to post on development tread...

Hi, im new too
Which Mackay ROM are you taling about? Because i had the same problem flashing Mackay rom 3.99-the last one and i couldnt had flashed it unless i did a dirty flash but even then i had many problems. So i dont know. Currently im using OMNI Mackay -the latest build-and im very satisfied with it, there are only few issues... but in the end its way fastest rom for me before it i had been using Gamerzrom 4.0 for half a year and it was way the best for android 4.2.2

I'm using this Mackay ROM 4.1.7
I also wanted to try the OMNI build, but there's no separate kernel for it yet.
I've only successfully using Mackay ROM 4.1.7 by flashing the ROM then before I reboot I also flash the corresponding Mackay kernel 0.605, if I don't flash the separate kernel then when I restart, my phone freeze on Samsung device boot logo, which I'm wondering since as far as I know Mackay ROM package is already complete, I'm also sure that the ZIP file I downloaded is not corrupted cause I already downloaded it twice and tested it on WinRAR.

Guys, which was your last stock ROM installed before using custom ROMs?
Froyo or Gingerbread?
As I've said on my OP, step no.1 I came from SlimBean, then since its recommended on Mackay ROM development thread I flashed CM 10.2 first before finally going to Mackay ROM.
Even now that I'm on Mackay ROM, when updating to new version using Mackay's TWRP, I still have to flash the separate Mackay kernel after Mackay ROM before restarting, otherwise my phone will freeze on Samsung device logo upon boot.

OK, then we know at least that your phone has a proper bootloader.
For people who upgrade directly from Froyo is very important to flash a GB bootloader, as all newer custom ROMs suppose that GB bootloader was already installed.

Yep, probably you do have a Gingerbread bootloader then (2.3.x), after all the updates.
Froyo firmweres were 2.2.x
If not sure, here you can see it in my i9000 thread (also with video) how to flash only a bootloader and there you can download all the files.
Make sure to read whole the step-by-step guide for flashing with Odin under section 2 as flashing a bootloader shouldn't go wrong.
Thanks tetakpatak,
I've read your thread, specially the warning regarding flashing bootloader that one mistake could hard brick the phone.
So, I wanted to clarify some things before I proceed on flashing the bootloader...
1. The baseband of the bootloader attached on your thread is XWJVU while my phone is XXJVK, should I search for bootloader the same as mine or the one on your thread is fine?
2. On your thread, the text guide says to choose the bootloader file under "PDA", but on the video, you choose it under "BOOTLOADER", I assume the video is correct as I can see the phone successfully boots...
3. I couldn't see clearly on the video and also not specifically stated on your text guide if I have to choose on Odin the "i9000Boot_XWJVU.zip" file or I have to extract first the "i9000Boot_XWJVU.tar" inside it and choose that one...
Sorry if I asked too much, not that I'm skeptical with your giude, just following your warning...
I was about to try tetakpatak guide on flashing only the bootloader, but I don't know why my phone was not detected by Odin?
I run Odin as administrator, choose the bootloader file, tick the "Phone Bootloader Update" and uncheck "Auto Reboot", then turn-on the phone to download mode, connect to PC, Windows detected the phone as "Gadget Serial device", but did not appear on Odin...

Set metadata recursive problem

Hello
I'm trying to flash PacROM 4.4 and I'm encountering a problem with "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed".
As I searched its because of old recovery tools, but I'm already uusing CWM 4.4.1 and I cannot find out what to do.
The way I tried to flash ROM :
1. Flash stock .254 ROM
2. Install TowelRoot and CWM
3. Flash with CWM 4.4.1 and this is where error come up (kernel 207 works)
Thank you for help
edit: I managed to install VANIR ROM, and later with the same method I managed to install PAC ROM too. I used CWR not Philz.
Your problem was most likely related to your recovery, which was probably outdated.
CM based ROMs sometimes have issues with older versions of CWM.
The reason why it worked after installing Vanir is probably because of Vanir's kernel which includes a more recent version of CWM.
Anyway, glad you got it working.
