Newb here, I just upgraded my Nook Hd+ stock to cm10.2 nightlies. For the most part everything went smoothly but I'm unable to install the Nook app now.
Is this normal? For Nook to not be able to be able to be installed on Nook hd+'s with cm?
I've downloaded nook from this site
Any bad side effects from Nook not being installed from the Play store?

Have you set allowing apps from unknown sources in settings? You do not explain what you mean by unable to install.
It is normal for the nook app to show as not compatible in the Play Store. Users just side load the app from sites like you referenced. Works fine.

I meant installing through the google play store. I'll keep that in mind in the future, I just thought it was weird that BN wouldn't let me put a nook on my nook. I thought the tablets were a loss leader to encourage you to buy books from them.

It is, but their stock already includes the reader and you are not supposed to be running CM on it. They do not want to encourage people doing that by making the android app available to CM on the nook.

some google play apps are not compatible with nook hd (e.g. bad piggies and chrome). how to fix this?
Yes, there are several mentions of that. You can Google the app and find the apk file and either sideload or install by double clicking. Alternately, there is a procedure I think that changes reported screen resolution, but it can break your root and cause a full reset if you aren't careful. Personally, I've downloaded on my phone then transferred over using drop box and installed most apps without any problem, a couple of exceptions.

This is from my stock CWM thread:
Many users complain that Play Store lists many common apps as incompatible with your device. Just because Play Store says it is incompatible does not mean it will not run on your device. It just means Play Store will not let you install it. The solution is to find and install the app from somewhere else like the Amazon Store, the 1Mobile Store or from another device. I have found most apps that Play Store says is incompatible actually do work.

But some apps, like Google Voice, are truly not compatible. Not much you can do with those.

Actually same thing is discussed on Nook HD, HD+ Themes and Apps forum many times.
One of my answer for resolving this is on this post. Maybe it helpful for you too.
Just got Mynook HD+ this week and am finally playing with it. One question I had is there a way to make downloaded apps go full screen in stock? For instance, the kindle app.

Yes, get an app named full!screen from the play store.

So my plan is to immediately put the CM10.1 on this tablet.
I mainly watch movies, read books, browse the web, and play a few games. But not too many games.
Will this tablet give me great performance in general? Or is it going to be limited? What kind of snappiness do you guys have with yours?
For what you will be using for the tablet performance should be perfect with room to spare. The Nook HD+ is a pretty solid tablet, only problems I've encountered are some minor touch sensitivity issues and a little bit of lag here and there but with some tweaking and customization it works pretty well.
Had mine since Wednesday. Great for watching TV/movies (avi/mp4).
Good for reading the web.
Great for comics.
Not got around to reading via the Kindle app.
Plays music fine.
Really enjoying it, but just like previous poster some touch sensitivity issues.
Well, I guess I will just need to try it for a bit and see if I am happy with it.
Hey I noticed that with it stock there are "incompatible" apps from the play store. Fandango for instance. If I put CM on it, am I still limited or is the buildprop edited so we can actually download these apps

No, most that say incompatible will still be incompatible on CM10.1. Your option is to download on another device, transfer the apk to the HD+, enable unknown sources on CM10.1 and install them. They usually run.

Actually, I just did CM to mine. My benchmark before was around 9000, with CM it went to over 10000.
And I found that several 'incompatible' apps became compatible. MLB At Bat works (only for radio, TV can't find my location). Also, a widgets app, iheart radio, and a couple others suddenly became compatible as well. But as they say, your mileage may vary. Of all the apps I have, the only one that is still incompatible is the Nook app... go figure!
I can careless about the nook app. I honestly don't read much. I really bought this just because I got it so cheap

For reading of pdf books I suggest OrionReader, simple and smooth as hell.
For video MxPlayer could handle 720p animes on hd+
Really satisfied with the hd+, definitely a bargain to me
I am so glad you mentioned OrionReader. I use my Nook for reading music scores while playing piano and couldn't find an app that moved fast enough while turning the pages. Now I'm all set!

You're welcome Another good thing about it is you can customize behaviours for different tap zones, very convenient
I have a four year old and want to read him the interactive story books like How the Elephant Got His Trunk. I am running 10.1.3 and sideloaded the nook app (since it wasnt in the app store). Well it says that "this title cannot be viewed on this device."
Is there any way to fix this? Or maybe another source of books like these?

The problem is the Android version of the nook reader does not support kids interactive books. That is because the interactive books are really not books but applications that only the stock reader now's how to operate.

Darn.. Well let me ask you this. If I run the stock rooted software with the "enable unknown sources", could I load up google voice and hangouts at least?

Google voice crashes on stock. I don't know about hangouts.
I suggest you try dual booting where you have stock and CM10.1 each on either SD or internal. Put CM10.1 or CM10.2 on internal and use verygreen's stock on SD so you can put the SD in to run the kids books.

Hi,
I uploaded a few EPUBs and PDFs to Google Books. When I open them in my Nook HD+ running CM11 M6 it crashes and reboots. This doesn't happen with all PDFs but with most and it is reproducible. Some PDFs work, some lead to a crash. Every time.
Do you also have this problem? Or is it limited to CM11 M6?
No problem on my Android phone with ALL PDFs and EPUBs.
Can somebody please try to reproduce this problem on their Nook HD+? Either with the Stock ROM or Cyanogenmod?
Cheers,
sb

Yes. I tested several apps and they all have no problem. Only the Google Books app crashes the OS. As I said...some PDFs/EPUBs open just fine in Google Books. But some not. It's about 50/50.
I am talking about EPUBs and PDFs I uploaded myself not bought in the shop. You can download those uploaded files from Google Books again - they all work flawlessly in other apps.
Can somebody please test Google Play Books on the Nook HD+? Just upload a few sample files and then open them.

Yeah I have had no trouble using Google play books on mine. Opening any file whether it is a pdf or EPUB. Maybe try reinstalling the app?

So you tested with several PDFs and EPUBs you uploaded yourself? What ROM are you using? The Nook HD+ Stock ROM or Cyanogenmode (if yes, which version?), or what other ROM?
Thanks!

Cm 10.2. So maybe it's the rom you are running? I know it cm 11 isn't stable quite yet so it is a possibility. And yes I did test it.

Just curious, why can't you just use another EReader app to view your files?

Well, I have most of my ebooks uploaded to Google Books. It would help if one could open Books from Google Books in other apps.
This happens fairly often for me too. Nook hd+ 32Gb running 10.2.1. I downloaded a play book, opened it once, then opened it again and it crashed a few times in a row. Uninstalled/ reinstalled, sent book to cloud/ downloaded, but still crashes occasionally.

Yes. I thought I solved it after installing a new CM11 Nightly and reinstalling Google Books. It worked first but after opening more books it started crashing again. Annoyingly, with the same uploaded book it sometimes works and sometimes crashes my Nook during opening the book.
Should or can we somehow tell this to Google so they fix it?
I'm just a noob but I'm sure Google couldn't care less about cyanogen mod builds. I'm guessing it's a problem with the Rom and minor enough that no one is going to address it unless it's notified as a problem in cm 11 nightlies. Anyone have ideas?

Maybe someone file a bug report on https://jira.cyanogenmod.org ? Does anybody know how to do this or have an account?
