The PSP can connect to AdHoc networks, but IIRC it's only used for multiplayer games. I don't think you can use the browser over adhoc. Granted, it's been years since I turned on my PSP and I never tried AdHoc mode, but /shrug.
gary actin like he wasn't part of the scene lol but anyways the psp won't stay searching long enough for it to find adhoc maybe i can code a app for hacked psp and wii to allow this (yessss i get to crack out the old sdk)

man that would be great if you could make an app
Like as noted above, PSP can do adhoc but it will not attempt an internet connection over adhoc.
I think one thing these tether-for-gaming threads fail to remember is that the ping over a tether connection will start at around 300-400 ms. A lot of games that only support adhoc play have little or no latency-compensation strategies and will be nigh impossible to play. Furthermore, unlike a wired connection to the internet, commercial cell networks are not designed to establish very robust connections. Those disconnections as G1 switches between 3G, EDGE, and no data (remember everytime you get a call, your data will be disconnected) would make keeping a stable connection difficult.
I have never lost data while during a phone call. This is not winmo, which u can not use data during a phone converstion...
I used to connect my PS3 via tethering, but it involved using a router.
Get your pc/laptop online via tethering. use an ethernet cable to connect the pc that is already online to the port on the router where you would normally connect the modem. Connect your PS3 to any of the other ports as if the router was online.
Go to network connections and bridge the connection between your active tethered internet connection and the ethernet port connection. Once the connections are bridged you should be able to get online via the ethernet ports on the router.
It worked for XP using my old sprint Mogul (or better known as the titan). I now have vista and haven't tried it out, but it should work just the same. I used to connect an xbox and a ps3 playing online via sprints rev. a speeds.

Man I didnt even think of bridging...but you are right. tried it and it worked...
i was worried about this too. Then lastnight moved into my new hosue with no internet.... Found 1 spot in room on top of Ps3 where phone got 3g.... Used pdanet through USB, then shared that connection, then conncted the ps3 through enternet and played Bad company 2 for 3 hours with no lag. Now I cant find that 3g spot for the life of me lol. Old house, built in 1927... lots of lead blocking signals.
Curious??
I wonder,...
Will the Wii / PSP pick up a standard wireless signal if you use a wireless router for this?
I have been having problems in using smartshare. My TV which is connected to my router via 'Ethernet' is not being detected. Both the phone(via WiFi) and the TV(Ethernet) are on the same Network.
Is the problem because of my TV being connected via Ethernet? Since both my phone and TV are on the same network shouldn't the TV be detected?
Please help
A long shot, but try to disable all firewalls and see what happens.

Tried it on my computer.
The phone is not detecting the DLNA server on my computer when its connected through ethernet.
But when its connected to my wireless network the phone is detecting the server. Why is the phone not detecting the server if the computer is connected through ethernet?
Went through that.
I discovered it was my access point.
I had three, two B/G did not forward UPNP packets (DLNA is basically UPNP with some extra flavors).
The only N I had did forward those packets correctly.
From my packet inspection it appears that some old&cheap APs (at least in my case, I didn't have any expensive devices to test) don't forward those packets at all. So they are restrained to the same local network.
That means ethernet can talk to ethernet, wireless can talk to wireless.
No eth-wifi crosstalk.
I also have
- Dlink 1522 and it works good (home level gear)
- Dlink 2553 and it's really good (semi pro gear)
^Thanks. But i'm able to use DLNA when my PS3 is connected via wireless and PC via Ethernet. So that would rule out my router's fault doesn't it?

What DLNA server are you running on your pc?
Is it some SONY made software?
I had the exact same problem as you:
running smartshare on my phone and it wasn't seen nor by the tv and neighter by the pc when it was connected on the 5GHz network ( i have two wifi networks, one on 5GHz and one on 2.4GHz, phone can only connect on the 2.4GHz one) .
When I connected the pc on the 2.4GHz network it could see the phone server ok.
Solved by changing the AP.
I don't know anything about the PS3 as I don't have it, maybe it uses some custom software that is able to overcome any limitation.
All I can offer is my own experience
^I tried with Windows media player,TVersity and also Samsung allshare. All three are detected by my PS3 but not the phone and the TV
My router has only the 2.4GHz Option. I tried changng the Wireless Channels but with no avail

Ya the TV and PC via Ethernet and the PS3 and phone via wifi
And all the devices are on the same network!

So the PS3 shares the same access point of the phone.
TV and pc are networked via cable.
You ran your software on the pc that's connected via cable and the PS3 picked it up, while the TV didn't.
Correct?

Yes PS3 shares the same access point. The PS3 detects the server while the TV and phone dont..
When the PC is also connected via wifi then the phone picks it up!

Mmmm that's strange.
But I suspect the AP anyway.
Can't you borrow another one (different brand and/or model) from a friend?
It's really strange.
Have you tried disabling the firewall?
Do you have more the one computer?
Can any other computer see all the others on the network?

Thanks for the reply bro!
I'll try with a different router and a laptop later today
Tried with another router but still no go
Is it a software limitation of the phone ?because the ps3 is working absolutely fine
I don't think so, I have used it quite well after I changed my access point.
I don't know what else you could try unfortunately.
Short of trying a different software (twonky).
Hi
I can't get my PS3 to recognize my Xperia TX as a media server and thus get files from it.
I went to Applications -> Settings -> More -> Media Server Settings :
Enabled Share Content - the content is published to wifi network.
Then when I check for media server on the ps3 no media server is found ?? Any ideas ?
Please post your questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks
AvRS
thanks for that, didn't see the Q/A part.
So can anyone help?
Is Media Server Connection enabled on the PS3 under Internet Settings? : http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/playstation-3-media-server-setup/
My TL works fine with the PS3 so check the settings on the PS3 to make sure that is enabled.
I have media server enabled on the PS3 in settings. I have the media server enabled under settings on the Xperia TX but when I check for media servers on the PS3 it performs a search with no results.
I also have media server settings enabled on the PC (windows 8) but the PS3 doesnt see that either.
Its pretty odd.

I'm sure you already did this but they are all connected to the same network right?

Yes, there is just the one WiFi network in my apartment which I had to enter a password on each device.
When I go to TX's media server it is switched on and there is nothing else I can do with it. I downloaded an app from the Android store which says Server on and server offline in text underneath that ?
All I can I do with the PS3 is switch on media server and run a scan. It doesn't recognize anything.
The phone does appear as a portable media devices ( in My Computer ) when I plug it into my laptop via USB but it does not appear under Networks. I thought it might ?

One thing springs to mind, have you got UPnP on the PS3 turned off for some reason? That's the only reason I can imagine that it won't see two different devices. Have a look in Settings > Network Settings > Internet connection settings
i just ran the internet connection again and it says that UPnP is available. I did a scan but no media servers were found

I take it the wireless router isn't under your control. Perhaps they have some rules setup on the internal network that are preventing it from working. That's the only thing that I can think of now since it sounds like you have things setup fine on your phone and PS3.
I do have access to the wireless router on my laptop, but I never did anything with it. i'm not sure what I could change on it ?
Check to see if UPnP is disabled in the router or if it supports it or not.
Its supported on the router. I went into settings and UPnP is there. It has the following enabled :
Active the Universal Plug and Play(UPnP) Feature
Allow users to make configuration changes through UPnP
I'm not sure if its the phone or the ps3 ?

i would like to see if media sharing on the xperia tx would work on any network but i don't know exactly how i can do that. Maybe a computer store could check it for me ?
is there any software etc that I could use to check to see that media sharing on the Xperia TX was working in the first place ?
Have you tried running a media server from your PC, to help determine if its the phone or ps3? You can find a PC media server @ www.ps3mediaserver.net I've used it for years. It works for the ps3 and 360.
- Xperia TL, XperimenT v1.5 ~ via XDA App
the URL you gave me doesn't give a download link ?
But yes if I could download media server software and work out that its the phone at fault it would narrow things down for me !

Just Google PS3 Media Server and you should find it. Or you could try Tversity, which I use and works well (again Google).
If your PS3 says UPnP is enabled on your network then that isn't likely to be the problem.
I have played about with the phone's media server feature but found it a bit hit and miss. My PS3 wouldn't detect it at first but I managed to prove connectivity using my network connected TV and even managed to 'throw' content from my phone direct to the TV. After about 20 mins of playing with the features on the TV I went back to my PS3 and my phone was showing up and I could stream content. It has worked every time I've tried it since, so don't know why it didn't work straight off.

I installed Tversity and media server and eventually got them to work. In Networks 3 media servers appeared but nothing was found on the PS3. I have a Sony Bravia TV which is WiFi but I don't know how to get that to work with either my Xperia TX or laptop. It really should just be about browsing through a few menus
so i just got my Xperia Z and for now im very satisfied with it.
one thing it can't do however, that my htc one s could, is using internet pass-through.
what i mean by this is hooking my phone to my PC's internet connection. i'd need this because i sometimes want to browse the app store from my phone when i'm home, but i don't want to use my data plan and unfortunately my laziness lvl is over 9000 so i can't be bothered to buy a wi-fi router.
so is internet pass-through a feature that isn't present in Sony phones?

If you are on Windows 7, you can make your own laptop as access point. Provided you have a wireless card installed. Search VirtualAccessPoint.
Hi guys,
I have a some problems with Throw function in my Z1. Firstly I want to sorry for my poor english. I wish you can understand me.
I have a PC and VAIO laptop, and Throw via WiFi doesnt work. If I enable Bluetooth it works correctly, but you know, range of BT is terrible, so I want stream music via WiFi.
If I use PC Companion, wireless connect work perfectly, I can copy files, and update my phone, but when I use Throw, and select PC or laptop via WiFi it loading for while and finally nothing happens. Even sound timer always display "00:00". When I click Play button, it's again the same - loading and nothing.
In Windows Media Player I turn on Stream->Allow remote devices to control my computer , and in further options "Allow all" in sharing streams.
I fight with that since 3 hours, and I give up... Anyone any idea ?

I have no idea what you're trying to do but :
Throw means throwing informations with your phone not sharing or taking control of another media.
With my Z1 i can throw music or photos to my TV for exemple (that simply sends and plays the music on my TV).
What do you want to do exactly?

I want to be able to throw music to my laptop or desktop while all three devices *Z1 Laptop Desktop* are connected to same wifi network.
Also what is the best cheapest way to connect my phone screen to my non-smart TV? I do not opt from ChromeCast
Hey there, guys.
I'm facing this problem too. For some reason "Throw" stopped working or works when it wants.
Long story short, i have .757 NUT's, Rooted, LB and Xposed installed with not else than Super User Mod.
When i try to use Throw, i can't find my Samsung Smart TV (In the past it was able to); funny thing is that i cant use Throw for watch videos on my PC using XBMC, but XBMC can access to my content vía uPnP and can reproduce the videos, phoos, etc. I use skifta which does "the same" than Throw and it works perfecly, it can find my TV and can reproduce the videos, but i can't understand why my naive APP which use DLNA wont work.
Any fix or workaround?
