Anyone tried using a 64GB USB flash drive with moto x? - Moto X Q&A

I recently acquired a 64GB USB flash drive (Kingston USB 2.0 Data Traveler micro). The drive originally came formatted in FAT32. It worked fine on my 2013 Nexus 7 (stock rooted) with Chainfire's Stickmount app, but not on my Verizon DE moto x (stock rooted). Basically, the x won't recognize that a drive is attached at all and it won't mount. I tried reformatting the flash drive in NTFS and exFAT, but still wouldn't work moto x. I have a 2GB flash drive that works just fine on the moto x in FAT, FAT32, and NTFS, so I know the moto x will read drives in those formats.
I was wondering if the problems I'm having with the 64GB drive on the moto x have to do with the storage size or if it's something else with this particular brand/model flash drive. Before I buy another 64GB drive I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems or successes in getting a 64GB flash drive to work with the moto x.

Since nobody has answered you and I've been searching for answers, the Sandisk 64GB Dual USB drive I just picked up works on my Moto X running 4.4.2. Paragon NTFS&HFS+ is necessary because my card is still exFat. Stickmount isn't necessary with 4.4.2 but it is with 4.4. The only issue I have is trying to figure out how to have the USB drive show up as an external drive instead of a virtual folder within the internal sd card.

64gb sdcard in bionic possible?

Droid bionic has a max 32 gb external sdcard limitation. is this a hardware or software limitation?
thinking if it was software, could I create 2 partitions on 64gb card and mount extra partition in vold.fstab as usb1 or sdcard-ext2 or something?
thanks.

I do not know if this helps or not but my Samsung Precedent is supposed to have a 16gb SDcard limitation but I have a 32gb card in it and it reads it as such. AlI I can say is stick the card in and see what happens. Once I get my Bionic up and running I plan on moving the card to from phone to phone. Good Luck and hope it works.
I've been using a 64 GB card (SanDisk Extreme SDXC) with no problems.

Is the OS JellyBean?
is the card formatted exfat or fat32?
Is it class 6 or class 10?
thanks.
Note: reason I'm asking is I have been reading problems with class 10 micros SD drawing too much power and exfat not being recognized with usb thumb drives and I wasn't sure if that carried over to the Micro sd card(for those with a y cable, an OTG cable, and powered hub)
Software problem only, reformat the card as fat32, your phone will ask to do this, and it will work fine.
Been using my sandisk 64gb card for a year without issue in my Droid 3 and now on my Bionic.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I broke down and bought a sandisk 64gb micro sdxc
picked up a sandisk 64gb sdxc class 10 from best buy for $35 yesterday.\
It would not read in my bionic because it is formatted exfat file system. Android no like. ext2 or fat32 is preferred if your a windows user def fat32.. problem with formatting anything that large using windows is you need utils found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735
that diddn't work for me so I used easeus partition manager to delete partition on card and create a primary (not extended) partition that was unformatted. I then used the fat32format.exe from the link above to format the card all of which was done in windows xp
working now.
I'm sure there are some things here that are not neccessary but this is what worked for me after a few failed attempts.
do not copy files form your old card until you put a couple files on the new card and test it. you will just end up wasting your time when it doesn't work and you have to reformat it again or repartition it again and copy..... again. I copied 29g to the card like 3 times. lol.
my entire music collection will be with me at all times now!
64gb MicroSDXC is 30$ on Amazon (US).
I got one and it is working flawlessly in my bionic. I was running CM11 at the time, but have jumped a couple of ROMs since then.
I copied all files off of my old card to PC (using the card slot), formatted the new card IN MY PHONE, then copied the files on to the new cardPure success. No errors or anything.
Just my experience though! Bionic isn't supposed to handle 64gb cards, but mine did just fine.
64 megabyte SD card
I also purchased a 64 megabyte SD for my bionic and it works great.

[Q] Lollipop and external SD card storage (+ encryption)?

Hello,
so, I came across the following article:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-5-0-sd-cards/
Now, I am wondering:
How exactly is external SD card storage handled on the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen when having upgraded to Lollipop?
Can you put all apps onto an external SD card?
And does it have to be done manually for each app? Or does it happen automatically?
And what about encryption?
Does the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen with Lollipop have an option to encrypt the external SD card storage?
Or can you only encrypt the device storage?
It would be much appreciated if someone could elaborate on this.
PS:
And could someone please tell how much device storage is left on a Lollipop updated Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen with 8 GB of device storage?
Regards
Anyone?
No, cannot move all apps to SD card...I have not tried encrypting the storage yet
As for available space, I have 3.07gb available after installing about 30 apps and caching two radio stations in slacker.

OTG Storage

Has anyone tried using a USB micro to transfer files I bought a 64gb dual usb SanDisk drive for my phone that I can carry with me but I can't get it to work. It shows that it's there in storage and highlights the mount usb drive but does nothing when clicked. If anyone has used something like this please share what you are using so I can transfer my files so I can work off that OTG Storage thanks.
what file browser are you using?

use ES File manager
u can transfer all files u want from phone to usb storage o viceversa
Thanks
I got it to work had to change the flash drives exfat format to an 32fat, once I did that it worked.
I have this same problem with my 64gb Sandisc micro usb.
It highlights the mount in storage settings but does nothing.
Can you specify how you formatted the 64gb drive to 32 gb? As far as I know fat32 does not recognize any size larger than 32gb?
As far as the file managers being used they should be obsolete because if you cannot even mount the drive nothing will recognize it.
I bought 2 flash drives and have 4 Turbos with all having the same results. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please let me know.
Thanks,
NorsKnight
Try browsing to /storage/usbdisk in Explorer free.
64 GB (fat32) should work, works fine on old Maxx.

He wasn't talking about formatting from 64GB to 32GB (storage space), it's the FILE SYSTEM (NTFS, FAT32, EXFAT) he changed.

[Q] Any hack to use 64GB Micro SD?

Hello, is there any hack that would allow a Moto G to run with a 64GB Micro SD card? I didn't try putting one in my self but I know official specs say only up to 32GB.

I have 64 gb samsung sd card and it works fine.
As already said, no hack needed.
Just format to FAT32 beforehand because 64Gb cards usually come formatted to exFAT and that won't work.

I also have a Samsung EVO 64GB

Which OS are you running? Did you try a different USB drive/OTG cable?
In Lollipop 5.1, it automatically mounts USB and you can access it in file manager (I use ES).

That's very strange. Could you please try a full format to NTFS?
And what is the capacity of the USB drive?

i tried that also but no use.. And pendrive is sandisk ultra 16gb dual
I believe there is some problem with your dual USB drive. I have Sandisk Ultra dual 64GB and mine works fine (I own Moto G 2nd gen, but there are not much hardware differences in 1st and 2nd gen). If it is in warranty, maybe you should go for replacement.
