[Q] RSD to stock loses 16g - Moto X Q&A

So, having picked-up a 32gb Moto X, I decided I would look into rooting. Started SlapMyMoto, but decided at this point too iffy for my abilities. I did, foolishly RSD from KitKat to 4.2, before making that decision. It seems that my 32gb has now been repartitioned to 16gb. I tried RSD with the latest 4.4 firmware, and everything works, but now only have 16gb showing of storage. Any suggestions... other than the obvious, "You shouldn'ta messed where you did..."

I've never heard of that before on a Moto phone using Rsd. Have you tried rebooting and checking again? Or trying to put more than 16 gb worth of files?

I tried deleting this post before anyone responded, but I guess I screwed that up too. It seems that I spent over a day trying to recover what was never there. I should have known better. Returned a DROID Maxx for Moto and stipulated I wanted the 32g... Verizon hasn't made a 32 available yet. Thanks for responding... sorry for annoying folk.

32g Moto x
Yeah, I finally realized that when I discovered that the Verizon stores only carry the 16G. Hence, no 32G on this phone.

[Q] Verizon's April 5th Update Woes

I, regrettably, just updated my phone to Verizon's April 5th 2013 Jelly Bean (9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-2
Blur_Version.98.72.182.XT894.Verizon.en.US) and they seem to have closed the exploit that razr blade uses. Specifically, creating /data/local.prop results in "permission denied." Has anyone else experience this problem? Is there a work around or another exploit? Thanks.
Mine was not installing on my phone for me so I tried flashing the zip in recovery with no prevail. After this I tried the Razr Blade mod on Windows 7 and it was not working for me. After that I booted up my Ubuntu 12.04 and tried again and it worked perfect for me. Try downloading the Ubuntu 12.04 live CD and burn it to a disk, run,it, download the Droid 4 JB utility from the forums, followe all the instructions in it and it should do it for you. I just accomplished this yesterday(5/13/2013). Let me know if you need any more help and keep trying. Don't give up yet.

9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-2 Blur_Version.98.72.182.XT894.Verizon.en.US
rooted with razr blade (win 7/64)
and was able to flash back to
Fri Feb 8 13:11:57 CST 2013
9.8.2O-72_VZW-18 Blur_Version.98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US
didn't really check what was different
I did take pics of Jellybean system info

Have I missed something? Is there a further update to the original JB update? Do we know if there's any material difference?
I've just tried a system update check, and it's saying I'm up to date, but I have the 8th Feb build date.
Cheers,
Steve.
it was posted here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_maserati/list.php
Apart from the issue related to rooting, are there any noticeable changes?
Have the hardware keyboard problems been addressed? Is it a leak of an impending release?
Do we know anything else about it other than the different build date?
Cheers,
Steve
I duplicated the post on rootzwiki (/topic/40718-verizon-april-5th-update-woes/) and got a working answer there. Thanks to all for your assistance. As for the update, I have no idea what changes were made.

That's a discussion about the original update, not the difference between the two JB releases.
right coder0xff is the only one, who has reported running the new version, other than me
I just checked to see if it was rootable, then flashed back to original and that is as far as I got.

Fair enough - I'm just surprised there isn't more discussion about it.
I think it must have gone unnoticed.
it just was posted a few days ago, and no one was expecting it.

[Q] Just bought a Moto X Dev, what should I look for?

I just bought a Moto X Devoloper Edition off a forum. I've tried it for a little while, and all the basic stuff seems to work well. But I want to make sure everything works good. Is there anything special I should look for? Maybe he bricked the boot loader, etc. How would I check?

If the bootloader were bricked, your phone would not turn on and you wouldn't even be able to get to fastboot mode - obviously this is not the case.
If you are concerned about previous modifications that may have been made, follow the instructions in the return to stock thread to flash back to 100% stock.
Everything you need, including all the links to stock firmware, tools, and drivers are located in that thread. (In the general sub-forum)
CAUTION! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE! Only flash the version the phone is currently on, or newer. Also be sure to use the correct firmware for YOUR carrier.
Good luck
I've noticed I have no reception at all (seriously, just a black thing). I shid note, I have no SIM in the phone. Should I be worried? Or will I get reception with a SIM? Anybody with a Verizon Moto X can answer the question by removing their SIM card and looking. Much appreciated.
You'll have to put a sim card in the phone to get service
Just to make sure, it's supposed to look like this without a SIM (the notification bar)?

I just installed Safestrap v3.65 on my os v 4.2.2 with no problem and have done a complete system backup with it to the Moto X's internal SD card. I'm rooted and write protection is removed.

I'm a tard I meant 4.4.2 , I thought someone figured out how to get safestrap with write protection but just wishful thinking lol

This is available for locked Verizon Moto X's still with write protect off and on the old bootloader - 4.4.2. This avoids updating the bootloader keeping write protect. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/116025-romsafestrap-unlockedxt1060-stock-rooted-vzw-164552-kitkat-442/
EDIT - Sorry I posted old information. Here is the latest safestrap stock ROM by the same Dev. 4.4.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2829123

This is my first Moto device and I'm not familiar with how to root these. All I know is its a Moto X Verizon exclusive (pig skin edition), I know the SIM is unlocked because I'm using it on At&t. If someone could help me by shooting me the proper links to a tutorial specific to this model phone I would seriously appreciate it. Thanks.

You cannot root it or unlock its bootloader, unfortunately. In the States only the Pure Edition can be unlocked and rooted. Also, it'll likely be a VERY long time until your model gets rooted if it ever does, and if I was a betting man, I'd go all in on its bootloader never getting unlocked. In other words, learn to love it stock because that's probably how it's going to stay.

US Cellular XT1093 can be unlocked, and does Sprint have it yet? If so, it's unlockable. I prefer to say "All variants except Verizon and ATT are unlockable" rather than "Only Pure Edition can be unlocked in the US". Plus it's less words (by one lol).

You're right, my bad. I keep forgetting that USC has it too. Not sure about Sprint.

Do any good ROM's exist for Sprint version of Note 8 N950U?

It seems like everything is for the Exynos version of this phone. Just got my Note 8 today for a steal practically new for only $100, but the software bloat seems horrible. Just curious if there is any Lineage or Samsung based ROM's that would be a good starting place? All the late reviews in 2019 and here in 2020 says to install an aftermarket ROM on it and you got yourself a great device. Phone details below.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 N950USQS7DTA5 on Sprint in New Mexico USA.

The Sprint store did the factory reset for us, but given that I know my way around these devices I thought I would do my own Factory reset and start from scratch. My last Galaxy phone was the original, so I am sure things have changed since then and wanted to double check with XDA before making any mistakes. Phone currently sits 100% stock.
Any advice on a debloated ROM at the least? Or something else would be great too. Google just sends me here and all I seem to see is N950F devices, but I plan to keep on researching before I flash anything on this device, lol. EDIT: Just saw the US carriers Pie thread too for this device, and that seems to offer a pre-debloated rom.
EDIT: My guess is that there isn't much you can do with this device in the way of custom roms?

Your guess would be correct. The phone is bootloader locked that means no roms like N950F version..

Thank you for the information. Yeah I figured that was the case. Oh well, at least there is a debloated Pie rom. Maybe I can do a somewhat decent job of customizing it. But yeah I was hoping for 3rd party kernels and or LineageOS love. At least it's a better phone than the Motorola G6 that it is replacing, lol. Thanks again...
