[Q] Safestrap/Locked BL safe ROMS - Moto X Q&A

For the few of us who still haven't/won't/can't unlock the BL, which roms are safestrap/locked BL compatible?
I'm on Krypton right now, but is there anything else?

I just installed Safestrap v3.65 on my os v 4.2.2 with no problem and have done a complete system backup with it to the Moto X's internal SD card. I'm rooted and write protection is removed.

I'm a tard I meant 4.4.2 , I thought someone figured out how to get safestrap with write protection but just wishful thinking lol

This is available for locked Verizon Moto X's still with write protect off and on the old bootloader - 4.4.2. This avoids updating the bootloader keeping write protect. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/116025-romsafestrap-unlockedxt1060-stock-rooted-vzw-164552-kitkat-442/
EDIT - Sorry I posted old information. Here is the latest safestrap stock ROM by the same Dev. 4.4.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2829123

Unlocked Moto X questions

Been doing some searching on the Moto X. Two questions that I need help with ASAP.
1. Can the GSM unlocked version be put on AT&T wihtout issue?
2. Since it is the carrier unlocked version can I unlock the bootloader?
Can't find anything out there.
Also, is there still an easy root exploit out there?
I want to pick up a wood backed companion for the Nexus...
Which model?

So basically everything but band 5, if I want to use it on AT&T. That may be worth it to get an unlockable bootloader.
So I am not new at this. Owned several Nexus devices all rooted within hours of ownership. But this multiple versions is confusing the **** out of me. I am ordering the XT1053. Can I just unlocked the bootloader through Moto's site and then go through ADB and flash TWRP or CWN and install SU?

^That is what I have gathered and I am coming from the same place as you. All I am looking to use is Xposed and CandyShop(Zipthemer).

1. Yes. I currently use an at&t mvno and pick up LTE with my unlocked X.
2. Yes. You will void your warranty if you request a code though. Unless you buy the developer edition. Unfortunately the Dev ed is not available through motomaker.
Don't know about easily rooting though. This is the first android I've owned where I haven't felt the need to root yet.

MJ5 or MI9 when downgrading?!?

For some reason my version says mi9 instead of mj5. I completed all steps except step 10 as I wanted to at least get back to nb4. Any idea on what may have happened???

I have used those steps twice to get my phone back to MJ5. They work. There is either something your missing or you have upgraded to something different and are having issues going back.
but it does work.
Even the MI9 file included in the list?

Yes all files less the Mega one which is just a mirror to the MI9 fix anyway.
Got it. Didn't repartition. Thanks

Once you're on a new build its impossible to downgrade because the bootloader is locked. So sorry to say you're stuck. The builds ending with MJ5, and NB4 are android 4.3 jellybean and aren't bad at all! The 4.4 NC2, and MLG have quirks.
The restore to MJ5 thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
MI9 is Odin flashable and available here http://www.mediafire.com/?jmypf8ggtxu1a61
It's only good if you're still on MI9.
There is no restore method for any 4.4 versions. Just some modified NC2 or MLG roms available.

about updates !

hello guys
Lollipop coming soon to moto x is currently under tests so my question

Being unlocked and rooted alone will not prevent you from seeing the OTA notification. However, modifications to the /system and/or /recovery partition will more than likely cause the OTA update to fail when you try to install it.
Most people use fastboot/mfastboot to flash a clean stock version of /system and /recovery (assuming you're using TWRP or similar for root access), then take the OTA to get the update. Once updated, reflash TWRP with fastboot/mfastboot, flash SuperSU from TWRP and you're back in business. This is how I upgraded my rooted and unlocked XT1060 from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4.

What @fury683 has posted is the correct answer..
One thing I will caution you about... IF that is Lollipop, you might want to take a wait and see... to make sure rooting is the same. And/Or do some research first.
Initially, due to security changes, rooting lollipop needed a custom kernel. Later that was supposedly solved. But I haven't followed enough to know the complete details.
Chances are good that once you get Lollipop on there, you want be able to downgrade to 4.4.4 or lower.
Better wait for people to confirm first then. I feel naked when my phone is not rooted.

And actually, I'm confused as to why you are posting that picture... 212.44.26 is KitKat 4.4.4 per Moto -> https://motorola-global-en-uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/100576

If you are still on stock-ROM including stock-recovery, then you will receive the OTA.zip. But to install it, you have to do a full unroot in SuperSu settings.
I tested all my links, not sure which one is broken they all work to me. Which update do you need I can send it to you

How do I factory reset? (rom and recovery inoperable)

So long story short, some sort of storage corruption has occurred and I'm trying to restore the phone to a working state. TWRP freezes at the teamwin recovery project screen and while stock recovery worked, its factory reset never got past "formatting /data". I tried flashing all the components from this thread but nothing works and the recovery in there doesn't work either. There is a factory reset option in the bootloader but my google skills yielded nothing on it so I don't want to try it unless I some more info on it. Oh yeah, I've also tried booting directly into the different recoveries with fastboot boot but no better luck
Anyone have any ideas how to recover or is my turbo destined to pass on to android heaven?
P.S. In case it's not obvious, bootloader is unlocked.
Find RSDlite, v6.4.2, and flash the 5-5 firmware. This won't relock your bootloader, unlocked is unlocked. This should get you back to Fresh Factory other than your bootloader being unlocked. The phone should be in fastboot screen to start. All phone memory will be wiped.

Cool! Now you could drop in CompuFreak's modded stock 5-5. Been running it rock solid for a while. Still have gobs of room, 1.31GB, left on the stock partition EVEN with all updates integrated.
