Since there is no forum for "Moto G" I'm posting my question here...
All calls from unsaved number only show "Unknown" not even the number of the caller, I badly need a fix for this. I'm on stock ROM and kernel, untouched. I did installed Truecaller and thought that might be causing it, but uninstalling it didn't help.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Any fix for it?
Thanks

For future reference the moto g forum does exist : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g
As for your problem, is this also the case when you check the call log? Or only while the call is taking place
No, just incoming calls...they show as "unknown" and no number in the call log as well.
What carrier are you on? I seem to remember reading somewhere (may not have been here) that a Canadian carrier was charging for Caller ID and shows all calls as unknown even if they are saved in your phone.

If you're with Verizon, try this. Login to your account on Verizon's website. Look for the option to change the features of your phone. It should say that Caller ID is ACTIVE for your account. TURN IT OFF. Wait a bit and then try some test calls. Then, go to the website and turn Caller ID BACK ON. Wait a bit and then try some test calls.
This MAY fix your issue. Even if you're not with Verizon, it's possible this could resolve your issue as well if you try this with your current carrier.
Good luck!

Even I m facing the same problem. The caller I'd used to display with my Samsung phone but now it is not being displayed with moto g 3rd generation. How should I get it fixed

I searched for this problem everywhere but couldn't find any post addressing it.
I'm on TMobile. I've used several ROM's here.
Recently I needed to block caller ID for a few outgoing calls. I know how to do it manually by *67 but on the phone there is a setting which also helps to do it.
My problem is my MDA reads the wrong setting from the network, when I hit caller ID and then get settings it always reads "No one" under "Provide my caller ID to" section all the time even when it's set to "Everyone". This means that no matter what I do, my caller ID gets displayed to the person that I'm dialing.
I've tried this with Molski's AKU 2.3 final ROM, Risidoro's 2.3 ROM as well as the official TMobile ROM.
Can someone tell me a fix for this? Or is this a device problem specific to my phone alone.
Thank you and wish you all A Happy New Year 2007.

I thought it was *82 to block/unblock.
--M
Well in the US, on T-Mobile *67 and #31# work. I've tried and verified both techniques. I've never heard of *82. Although I can dial both to disable caller ID, I'd just like my phone to read the caller ID settings from the network right.
Different networks will have different block/send Caller ID prefixes. The GSM standard is for #31#<phone number><SEND> to block the number, and *31#<phone number><SEND> to send the number (used if you have permanant CID blocking). This should work on all GSM networks.
Well, thanks for the clarification, but could someone help me on my problem on the first post please.

Try calling TMo and have them reset your phone/account from their side (you don't need to tell them that you are using a cooked ROM) sometimes their system just gets confused.

Thanks demontefixo, I never thought about that. Will ask them to do so and report back.
GSM Standard - Block/Send Caller ID

The GSM standard is as follows:
*#31#<send> - Check Send Caller ID Status
*31#<send> - Send Caller ID for all subsequent calls, except where explicitly blocked by prefixing a number with #31#<number><send>
#31#<send> - Block Caller ID for all subsequent calls, except where explicitly sent by prefixing a number with *31#<number><send>
Not all network operators will allow you to do this.
Thanks CJBS and demontefixo. They did have a problem with my account and now it's been reset and working as it should.
@ demontefixo
Nice one. A simple solution that should've been one of the top ones in trouble shooting hierarchy but I would've thought I did something that is not making it work.
I have an unknown number calling me and I want to know who it is, I answer they hang up. The only way that I know of that will unhide the number is through trap call. I don't know how many of you are familiar with trap call but pretty much you get an unknown number calling you, reject it, then it comes back to you with their real number. I have it on my spare phone and it works but I don't want to out it on my main line, because it messes up your voice mail. I can foward calls to my spare phone from my main phone but I don't want to be doing that 24/7
So does anyone know if there is any sort of app that I can install to my xperia that will unhide unknown numbers? I figured since many of the people in these forums are a lot more knowledgeable than maybe someone knew of such an app. It would be pretty handy Thanks
I'm looking for exactly the same kind of util. We don't have trap call available here. If someone can explain how the caller ID process work, does the number even get transmitted to your phone? but not showing due to some setting in the data of the acctual call?
The other side of the coin then, can you witheld your ID on a SMS?
Hello, I have a small problem with my XZ. It's currently running 4.2.2 with build number 10.3.A.0.423.
The issue I'm facing with, is that when I am in a call and someone else calls me there is no warning sound that another person is calling me. The reject or answer call appears but there is no actual sound to announce that another person is calling me.
I have tried without any luck the following:
- checked/unchecked the call waiting option = it didn't work, if the option is unchecked than the person that tries to call me while I am on call with someone else gets a busy line, so in this case the option works as expected
- used pc companion to restore 4.2.2 as I thought that maybe some app i installed messed up this option = this also didn't work as after the fresh restore there was still no sound while I was in call with another person while someone else called me
So my question is that is this a bug of 4.2.2, does anyone else know of this issue? I goggled this problem without any luck in finding an answer.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Nice to see that the thread got 94 views but no reply. Am I the only one with this problem?
Can someone with the same firmware as mine test the behavior described by me? That way I could find out if it's a 4.2.2 bug or another issue.
I've experienced a couple of problems recently and I'm not sure if it's a bug or something they changed with the last update. I'm on 4.4.2 with Sprint.
Previously, when I tried to call a business (i.e. "Call Pizza Hut"), it would find it via Google Now and make the call. Recently, I've noticed that if the business is not listed in my contacts, it will try to call one of my contacts.
Also, if there's a contact with more than one phone number, it used to give you a prompt to confirm whichever number you're trying to call. Now, it just calls the default number.
Has anyone else noticed this and do you know of a fix?

Unfortunately, I have the same exact issue on Republic Wireless (Sprint MVNO) 4.4.2 and haven't found a solution....
Strangely, the issue seems to come and go. Additionally, the voice recognition is WAYYY off....it will try to call a contact that doesn't even sound like who I'm trying to call.
My solution is to instead, turn the screen on, then hit the microphone icon (top right corner). From there if you say "Call Pizza Hut", it seems to work 100% of the time.
I agree that the issue is quite irritating. Hopefully a future update to Touchless Controls fixes this.
It will be interesting to see if those on later android versions also experience the same issue...
Are you also experiencing the 2nd problem?
Voice recognition doesn't seem to be an issue for me.

Nope, just confirmed -- tried to call a contact with 2 numbers in phonebook (cell & home) and the phone responded:
"I found two matches. Say the name after you hear the one you want to call. 'Person' home. 'Person' cell."

Yea, that's what mine used to do. Now it just calls the top number.
I have been trying for a solution to this problem for months. Initially I was running CM ROM and noticed when making outbound calls, the calls were showing up as unknown in my call log.
First I though this had something to do with Google voice, so I uninstalled and the problem persisted.
Recently, I changed ROMS to Chroma marshmallow w/ the correct radio and boot loader. Right away, the same problem is occurring.
The attached screenshot is from another thread, but outlines my problem.
Did you found a solution?

Make sure your contacts app and phone (dialer) apps are set as default for contacts and phone in settings. You might need to remove and then add back the Google account so your contacts are updated.
Thanks, but already checked.
I've dust done a fresh install of lineage 17.1 and the problem still present. On outgoing calls when the other side answers the number switch to Unknown
I found this post repo.xposed.info/module/ru.timjosten.unknownnumberfix
