Hello,
My kindle Fire HD7 has issues with the Wifi connection: it keeps disconnecting all the time. I have tried everything: wifi fixer apps, airplane mod on while Wifi on, rebooting, deleting some app, rebooting the rooter, USB plugged or unplugged, perfomance/conservative mod etc. It just randomly disconnect.
The only way to use the Wifi is to manually reconnect it every 2 to 3min. First I though it was due to my rooter or hotspot or the interference with my neighbours. But my HTC one S is always connected to both and work perfectly.
I've noticed that my kindle fire is way slower (overall) than my old Htc one S. I suppose it is not normal, do you think I might have a bad setting (battery saving turning wifi off or something) ? On which performance setting are you using the KF ?
I am very disapointed with that KF: it is slower than a 2years old phone and that Wifi issue...
Here are some infos about the system:
Kindle fire running on:
Android version 4.3
Kernel version: 3.0.50+ (aug 11 2013)
CM 10.2-201330812
Kindle fire has an emac and an ip adress different than HTC one S.
I have to add: sometimes the wifi icon (top right corner) is blue or grey, I do not know what is means ?
Merry Xmas and happy new year to you all!

After rooting an X stays on the wifi icon in the status bar. Even though it says I'm connected. So I'm kinda lost, any help would be awsome

First it isnt wrong if a X is there, is a glitch, and first see why, i rooted 2 tablets and a phone an never nothing. Do you have wi fi and the X is n the icon?
Under wifi settings it says connected. But it will not actually access the Internet. Also there is that X on the icon up top

That also happen to me on both rooted and unrooted kindle fires; try to discontent from the network and connect again, in my case i have 2 networks at home, switching between them fix that issue.

I had reset my router to default. But it's working

I saw this behavior too after rooting and enabling Google Play. I would see any of the following occur:
1) An 'x' on the wifi icon even though I had a wifi connection (drop down wireless menu shows connected, web browser works). I would see the 'x' shortly after restaring the KFHD.
2) No wifi icon and no connection. Reconnecting to wifi taking forever or fail authentication
I think I fixed up #2 by setting up the wireless connection profile again. #1 seems to happen whenever I wake the KFHD...after a min or so the 'x' usually goes away, but not always.
A non-issue for my KFHD so far.
I'm having the same issue with authentication failed. Turned Wifi off and tried again, no luck. Also deleted network and set it up again with no luck. Anything else I can try?
I annoyingly had the same problem, tried some of the above suggestions in the end a Kindle reboot seemed to fix it for now, try that.
Hey guys. I've been poking around but haven't found a decent answer to this issue. I have 2 Nook HD+ running the latest nightly of CM10.2 on EMMC and ever since mid August (when I first went to 10.2 I suppose) I've had an issue of the WIFI data connection dropping. It usually happens after the tablet has been sitting a while. The Nook shows a good WIFI connection, but when I go to do anything I have no internet connection.
Resetting the wifi on the Nook fixes it 100% of the time. It's not a deal breaker, but it's pretty annoying. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a setting in my router I could tweak to help things? Other devices seem to be ok. I have a NETGEAR WNDR 3700. Thanks!

Same problem here on both an HD and HD plus, CM 10.2 EMMC, on two different routers. No issues on a Nexus 7.
I tried CM10.2 (milestone, not nightly) on my Nook HD and either wasn't able to get a wifi connection, or wasn't able to maintain a wifi connection once connected.
I tried the milestone and the latest nightly yesterday, but I had to go back to 10.1 to have usable wifi. I couldn't download anything without the connection dying about 5% of the way in, and restarting wifi doesn't fix it.
I'm having a problem with my KFHD 7" - it won't connect to my home wifi. It keeps going from 'authenticating', to 'authentication failed' to 'out of range' over and over. I've tried many other devices on the same network and all work fine.
I've tried disabling dhcp on the router, I've tried wpa2, wep and no security also, it makes no odds. The weird thing is, if I try a different wifi network it works fine.
I've been using my home wifi with the kindle since I've had it with no problems, it seems to be a recent problem. The kindle will however connect every now and then, usually after it boots (so I know the passcode is correct) but very very rarely, and when it does it disconnects again very quickly. I'm running Kinology at the mo, but have tried restoring to Hashcode's Cyanogenmod 10.1 ROM but the problem still occurs.
Any ideas on this one please......
Try changing your router security to another ie wep or wep2 or...
I know it sounds simple but with my old router it would not connect under wep2

I've tried all security settings my router has with no joy. I've just restored my nandroid backup for the original stock Amazon I made back in May and it connected fine many times, restored back to the kinology and it doesn't work, very weird...
I found a fix online which involves turning aeroplane mode on, then wifi on after which seems to work, strange but it does the job.
Hi,
My Note 5 (SM--N920W) recently started to switch Wifi, on/off intermittently. Sometimes, the Wifi stays on for 15/20 minutes (like when watching youtube) and some time it turns on/off continuously (mostly, when downloading a large file with a continuous stream of data). I can see that in the phone settings, the Wifi button goes grey (to off position automatically) and turns blue automatically & tries to connect to the router, sometimes it stays connected for some minutes and sometimes it's just instantaneous that it goes grey again (Wifi off). This keeps on repeating.
The phone is updated to Android 7 (official ROM) and has been reset and also tried all different settings like turning off location completely, disabling wifi scanning etc but that didn't help. Any idea what could be wrong? Also, the phone is locked to a carrier for which I don't have the sim anymore. I am not sure if running it without sim is causing this wifi issue.
Thanks! Any help is highly appreciated!
If you can try using a different wireless router or network, and see if the issue persists. I had a similar problem awhile back, except it only happened when Bluetooth was on. I ended up buying a new router instead of the one I was using from Comcast, and it resolved the problem! Also I've similar issues with other devices, and editing the build prop and changing ro.securestorage.support=true to false in /system/build.prop might help.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'll look into secure storage flag, though it looks like this is for the rooted devices, mine does not seem to be rooted (I bought it online, not sure if that was rooted earlier or not).
Another behavior I have noted, that initially the wifi for first few minutes works ok, no drops or switching on/off. But then it starts to go nuts turning on/off continuously. I am not sure if its a hardware issue, that somehow the wifi module gets hot after a few minutes of usage and starts to malfunction. But I have read somewhere on this forum, that the BT & WIFI are on the same module on the motherboard if the BT runs fine (which it does on my Note5), WIFI as far as hardware is concerned should be OK.
I haven't tried any custom ROM (though tried downgrading to Android 6.1 - ROM from sam mobile) but that didn't work. Any idea, which custom ROM is most stable and easy to apply?
Thanks!
If your on a stock unrooted rom, I'd definitely try another router, even if your just connecting to a friend's. If it doesn't occur then, its the router. As far as custom roms, I'm running the Note fan edition port by RadeonMaya, and it works great.
My Kindle Fire has only recently started giving me problems. It is an 8.9 2nd gen. It will no longer connect to any wireless network. It will find the wifi and tell me it is connected but there is an X on the wifi icon at the top of the screen. It won't let me enter a password either. I have had it since 2012 and it has been great up til now. I have deleted the wifi's then tried to reconnect. It is also not holding a charge for very long anymore. Not sure if these are related. Any advice? Thanks.
