After receiving many PM's I decided I should make a new thread to make the unlocking process clearer for noobs.
First:
Every Sprint HTC One can be unlocked, you just need a little patience and some basic knowledge. The unlock is PERMANENT, so you won't loose it if you flash another ROM, or even a ruu. The unlock works only on SENSE ROMs, so you can't unlock it on CM, AOSP or GPE ROMs. Even after you have unlocked you won't have network in non-sense ROMs.
Make sure your carrier frequencies are supported by the phone. Here you can find the HTC One's frequencies for Sprint.
Using US carriers will be a bit tricky, cause the frequencies the phone uses do not cover all the regions. You may loose network coverage often and may have problem with the roaming guards. Some users reported that the newest radios block domestic roaming, so you can try directly solution 3 which will downgrade your radio also, or downgrade it manually by flashing THIS radio in recovery. I also suggest you try BadBoyz ROM which has forced roaming.
The unlock works great outside the US though.
Background:
Before the release of 4.3 ROMs the process was very easy. If you still are on a SENSE 4.1.2 ROM with root access than all you have to do is follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386703 or use the "Sprint HTC One SIM Unlock Helper" from Play Store
Now with the release of 4.3 Sprint made it more difficult. (Note even on the 4.4.2 base nothing has changed, the process is the same) The unlock uses a file called HtcOMADM_SPCS which was modified in 4.3, so the unlock no longer works.
Solution:
There are 3 possible solutions to this problem.
1. Use the modified HtcOMADM_SPCS made by @chas123 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534208 You have to flash this in recovery and than the process is the same as with the 4.1.2 ROM
2. Use a file manager to replace the HtcOMADM_SPCS in /system/app with THIS.Than the process is the same as with the 4.1.2 ROM. After unlocking you'll get vDM client crashes. It's not a problem, cause afterwards you can flash any other ROM and you'll remain unlocked.
3. This is the longest way. Do this only if the previous methods fail.
a)If you are already S-OFF than:
-Download Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_1.29.651.10_RUU.zip
-extract zip to a folder on your pc
-boot into bootloader (various ways)
-using fastboot, type this cmd: fastboot oem lock this will relock the bootloader
-from pc, run setup.exe from the extracted folder. it will run the RUU utility & flash back to stock
Now you have to unlock your bootloader, install a custom recovery and root. There are tons of guides for that. You can use THIS
b)If you are S-ON.
You can get S-OFF pretty easily on hboot 1.55 with rumrunner. Instructions HERE
The latest version of rumrunner HERE
If you are on hboot 1.56 or newer you can get s-off with Firewater http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
After gaining S-OFF the process is the same as explained in a)
After you have successfully downgraded your ROM and radio, gained root you can go ahead and use the unlock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386703
How do you check if the unlock was successful?
Pretty simple just insert a SIM card and if you don't get the "SIMLock enabled" message than the unlock is complete.
You may still have no bars and be unable to make calls though. Make sure you change the settings in mobile data, network mode to GSM/UMTS. If still no luck than probably the phone doesn't cover your carrier's frequencies.
If you have signal, but can't use the internet make sure the APN settings match your carrier.

I have the unlock code for it but Sprint's HTC One MAX does not give me the option to enter a Network Unlock Code when I insert a foreign SIM CARD.

I was wondering , is there any way to somehow "convert" my AT&T htc into the developer version and receive developer OTAs?
I'm currently running this rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265820
It doesn't allow OTAs as it's de-odexed and device ID is different I believe.
What i want is the stock developer version with root and some way to carry over root over OTAs. I don't mind keeping stock recovery in order to get the OTAs.
Thanks

Yes you can... What you need is s-off and then supercid and the brightstar ruu. Once the ruu is flashed change your cid to BS_US001 and you technically have a us dev version phone capable of receiving otas. You should be able to root from there. I've seen reports of being able to keep root with ota rootkeeper from the market. Keep in mind if you put a custom recovery to root you'll need to replace it back with the stock recovery with a locked bootloader to accept otas.

Thanks so I just change the CID according to this guide here? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317536
Also, which method of s-off do you recommend?
so it's s-off>change supercid> flash ruu> root and return stock recovery
is that right?
Thanks so much for the help btw. This is my first htc device, so new to the whole s-on/off thing and having so many partitions..

I used revone to s-off mainly because I could do it right from the phone but really just use whichever you think you'll be most comfortable with. Revone has options to lock and unlock your bootloader, I'm not sure if moonshine does or not so take that into consideration. When you flash the ruu it will replace your recovery with the stock one so you'll need to put a custom recovery back to flash root unless there is a method to root without it. So basically it's s-off>supercid>flash ruu>root>stock recovery>change cid again to BS_US001>lock bootloader. The locked bootloader BS-US001 cid and stock recovery are important for otas with the brightstar ruu.
---------- Post added at 04:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 PM ----------
Oh and that method for changing cid is fine... If you already have fastboot setup and are familiar with it then its just 1 command "fastboot oem writecid ********" the asterisks are of course representing the cid you intend to write to the device... Always 8 characters

bootloader doesnt need to be locked. You can get OTA's unlocked, but like he said you must have stock recovery and correct CID. I've even heard you have to have all the stock apps..So with root dont delete them, just freeze any app you dont want. Shouldnt be bad anyway seeing its a dev ruu and doesnt have carrier bloat.

Cool thanks for clearing that up, I did a lot of searching and reading before I attempted this so I'm not sure where I picked that up. Also I had no problem taking an ota after I had disabled a few apps in settings>apps so that's an option if you desire.
How about the Model ID of the device, guys? Would that play any role in all of this?

In his case the at&t model id and us dev edition model id are the same so as long as he uses the brightstar ruu he will be fine... In your case you need to find out which dev edition gets shipped to your area find out the model id it uses to see if it's the same as yours and use the ruu for that dev edition phone. Or pick an ruu you want to use and change your model id to match the dev phone that ruu belongs to. I hope that makes sense.
Not working for me.
I've managed to get S-off and SuperCID, but trying to flash the Brightstar RUU from HTCDev fails. I'm currently using the Deodexed ROM cited at the start of the this thread, but I'd like to receive updates. I'm not worried about losing ROOT and the custom recovery since I prefer Sense over anything else. What am I doing wrong here? Is turning your ATT HTC ONE into a developer's edition with over the air updates no longer possible?

What ruu are you guys using for this? The official brighstar ruu from HTCDEV will not install on my ATT HTC ONE, no matter what. "(bad) installation aborted." Tried locking my bootloader again, but doing so makes me lose the CWM recovery which makes me unable to install anything then. I have already changed the superCID to Developer edition. Tried with supercid ON. Installation will not work. Pretty much given up. Will just install updates manually as they come.

Either you trying to run the ruu while booted into android or you have a bad download. Try running it with supercid while in fastboot or bootloader.

Hi, I'm having trouble trying to flash the google play edition rom onto my HTC One (Verizon). I have tried unlocking the bootloader with htcdev.com and it gives me the error: Error Code: 160. Error Reason: MID Not Allowed. I tried to change the cid to 11111111 but that doesn't work either. Also rumrunner doesn't work. I have done a lot of research and can't find any fix for the problem.
Other information:
Android Version 4.4.2
Hboot Version 1.56
Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

if you can't unlock bootloader you can't do much else. pretty much everything else is dependant on it.
I think the error message you're getting when you try and unlock bootloader is because Verizon (through your device MID) does not allow it.

Look, on a locked bootloader, you cannot do anything what ur trying. Verizon phones cannot be unlocked using dev unlock. Only Rumrunner. Make sure that u have HTC Sync Manager installed on ur PC. Correct me if I'm wrong but Rumrunner won't work for him either because he is on 4.4.2. That version can't achieve root which is required to s-off. And until s-off is achieved, you can't flash any ROMs...

số cid của bạn thì up tất cả các vùng,còn muốn root ,tôi không nhớ nhầm thì phải unlock boot s-off
Yep....
After hours of research I feel stupid because this can't be done at the moment. Anyone who is a Verizon subscriber is SOL after updating to 4.4. Can't be done. End of story. Untill then I'll patiently wait. Glad I have an AT&T S4 running CM11 which was done without using a PC so I'm happy about that. The phone I have with Verizon is through work and sense is garbage and battery life is abysmal with all that blotware. I really want CM11 on my HTC One :-/
Does firewater work?!?!?! Use firewater!!!! It works I'm pretty sure with the newest update!!! Link here!!! http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/ Use firewater and see if it works on 4.4.2 if it does then ??????????????
Sent from my Rezound using xda-developers app. CyanogenMod 11. S-off
Firewater does not work either. Really hit a brick wall with this one. Its a shame because I was really looking to use CM11 with the HTC one with the nice display its got and everything
There's a way.... Me and my friend are getting closer to possibly downgrade bootloaders on moto but keep the operating system....... Sorry for that off topic, but there's always a way!!! Unless its Samsung lol, sorry for the off topic OP
Sent From Rezound Running Sense 4. S-Off
Not if you have a Verizon HTC one running 4.4 anytime soon lol
Bet somebody could crack it... Blow the qfuse.... Or is that only moto? I also find it funny how my phone can run the same as the top of the line smart phone running sense 4 now I has sense 5!!! and cyanogenmod 11.
Sent From Rezound Running Sense 4. S-Off
When that happens please let us know. So wait you're running CM11 with sense? How does that work? Also are you able to use the remote app that runs on sense stock? I have used the smart IR remote app on my S4 running CM11 which works great with smart TV's but not so great with non smart TVs at least from my experience with it. that's the only thing I'm worried about losing when and if I'll ever be able to get CM11 on my HTC one

Okay lol, were getting all of our info for moto right now, reading boot sequences the way in which everything boots, the structure of the bootloader, where the qfuse is located and how we can possibly fry it. My question is. What actually unlocks the HTC bootloader. I know the unlock code.bin But what "actually" let's you unlock the phone? Questions to think thats where you get into the thought of how to hex or trick something such as rum runner/firewater does. Its unlocks and makes you s-off. I read somewhere that it just makes your phone think its s-off, could this be or not to be? I'm finding all these answers..... Were going to try something tomorrow, could possibly brick moto or allow us to unlock WISH ME LUCK!!! I have rooted romed a HTC one, can someone answer one question on the HTC one. When in FULL stock recovery or when someone goes into it, does it just do like my phone and set it back to when I go it (not factory reset) or does it allow options just like wipe cache factory reset and stuff like that? Please someone answer that for me
Also I know how to write the code and make exploits and everything, but how in gods name do you edit a .bin file and see what the ACTUAL ORIGINAL code was. I know its not just some computer person is going to sit down and write ¢=¥=€℅£{`¶¥°`°©=¥ ain't no way in hell nobody gonna read that, then there's the way to change that to hex which is like CB190 FD240 something like that idk, the thing is, there's over 50,000 lines of that, but that simplifies to binary. I can't get anything to change my hex to binary. Because im pretty sure you can change binary to text but i cant get anything to change hex to bainary properly. I can change binary to hex then whatever the foop that symbol crap is. But not do it backwards. It simpily wont work for me.sorry for that noob question, but i havr an idea and need to know. Sorry if my words are wrong I'm tired.
With the IR blaster I'm unsure. I didn't test it. With 4 ROMs I switch back and forth from my SD card. I can backup restore/install and be rebooted with a totally different ROM in 10 minutes like I got bored with sense 4 last night, now I'm on sense 5 woot.

Unfortunately you have to be on Sprint's Network to get the OTA update. Here is the RUU 5.03.651.3 which will give you Sense 6. Just follow the instructions in the OP on how to run the RUU, since you are S-OFF you do not need to lock your bootloader to run the RUU.
Here is the link to the Sprint HTC One forum. Keep an eye out in this forum for future updates, generally someone will post the OTA so it can be installed manually.

It should not effect you SIM unlock. There is no guarantee that any process will not brick your phone, OTAs from the HTC and carriers have caused some issues. The best you can do is check MD5 checksums to see if the file has been corrupted during the download process and check the OP for any one who has reported an issue.

Do you have updated fastboot and adb? If not, Minimal ADB & Fastboot Tool
Extract the zip to your adb/fastboot folder
Boot phone into bootloader/FASTBBOOT USB before running ARUWizard.exe
Try with a different USB port and/or cables
If possible change PC's
Hello. I've got a Sprint locked M8 har/kar edition. I have intention to use it in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately it came with updated software version and firewater didn't work. Rumrunner installation looks like goes fine - says me to wait 30 seconds, pray and turn on my phone. Did this twice and boths times my phone was actually turned on when this message appears. Bootloader stills shows me S-ON.
I did unlock via Htcdev, Root, TWRP 2.8.0.6 Unofficial. Installed the Viper. I think Ill try Bad Boyz aswell very soon.
Code:
ViperOne M8 2.4
htc sdk api 6.25
prl version 51101
kernel [email protected]#1
baseband ver 1.08.20.0612_4
build number 2.16.654.4 cl357420
Bootloader says

Now I'm stucked on getting S-OFF on my lovely device.. The problem is my phone doesn't want to hear about any sim cards, in this state.
I've saw something about sim unlock but I am not sure does it could help me as my sim works on any device. Or it's meant something else?
These frequences are used here.
Code:
2G capabilities
GSM 900, GSM 1800
3G capabilities
UMTS 900, UMTS 2100
4G capabilities
LTE 1800 ( still not in use at all)
I would like to beg for your help! I am stucked. I would purchase sunshine, if it's the only S-OFF option for me, but I am not sure would S-OFF unlock the device in order to work with any sim and am I going to have additional troubles with band frequencies or not.
Thank you very much for your kindness!
s-off does not unlock the SIM, there are further steps, but I would bite the bullet & pay for sunshine

Thank you very much for your answer! I still have doubts is s-off 100% required to make my phone work on these frequences and other than Sprint network? My main target is to start using the phone, S-off is on second place 'for me. The second topic doesn't say anything about s-off, but I have still not tried it, because I am not sure do I have to flash this with TWRP or? If so, after reboot there will be installed program called terminal emulator in which I do the rest? Thanks again! ) :fingers-crossed:
p.s. A good question asked by a colleague - does imei unlock code (those who has to be bought) will also make the phone work on these frequences or it will only unlock the device but it still would be unusable because of band differences?
Is it required any sim be inside the device when using firewater or rumrunner? Is it a problem if it's inside?
Regards.

In order to SIM unlock your own phone you need to be S-Off. I don't know if unlock codes will work or not and from what I read Sprint tells you it has to be on a Sprint network to send it an unlock code. I suspect the person that sells the unlock codes would be able to tell you if they can unluck the Sprint variant of the M8. When I unlocked mine (I'm S-Off and follow the instructions in the Bad BoyZ thread) I wasn't able to get the 2100 band to work until I followed the steps in the Enabling 3G (UMTS) in all the countries thread in general.
To me if it were a matter of spending ~15 euro on Firewater or ~10 Euro on an unlock code I'd do Firewater. S-Off is easy with that and the SIM unlock took about 2 minutes after that. That route also gives you the ability to enable to 2100 band if you need it.
Hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for your clear answer! Unfortunately it's all about the money ( i don't have). Today my bank informed me that my account is closed due to no recent activity and the money i was waiting to receive are gone.... paypal - 0.01$.
I have installed Bad Boyz Rom with my current hboot and radio, which looks absolutely the same as the touched one from bad boyz(I've got the red text). The phone restarts after 1-2 minutes maximum. When i start supersu says no library installed do i want to install and after this restart... So i flashed ViperOne again. My question is - does the hboot makes this problem and if i flash to his touched hboot is it reversible afterwards? Would be there problem to use other roms with same hboot&radio?
I think the problem could occour from supersu and the rootings privileges it needs. I have used a toolkit for rooting while i was stock (it installed superuser). May be my rooting is not that good or something is happening.. ViperOne has no problems.
Thank you!
I unlocked my phone but as written before you have to be s-off!
There is no way that you can use your phone without S-off, and if this not worked:
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Then sunshine will:
http://theroot.ninja/apks/SunShine-latest.apk
Sorry but ~USD25 is the price to pay..and there is no way around it.

Reinstall super SU, have you tried to install any other radio (this makes the phone restart as well)?
So this Summer I'm traveling to Europe for a month and would like to SIM unlock my phone so I can use a European SIM card to stay connected on the trip, I know I'll need to have it unlocked so it'll work, but Sprint only does a temp unlock for going out of the country and relocks it when you come back (I believe) and I figured, since I'd like to also switch to T-Mobile later, if there was a way to permanently SIM unlock? Also as a bonus, anyone know a good telecom company to use going through multiple EU countries? One where I don't have to get a new SIM everytime I go to a different country?

So when you mean that, just that I won't be able to use it with a US based GSM carrier? Any way to get around that?
there are no tested ways around that, In theory every htc one has the same hardware so theoretically speaking if you get S-off you could flash the factory unlocked's RUU and convert your phone to a complete factory unlocked model, that way you could use a gsm us carrier, you should note that before doing this you may wanna change the model id and cid as well, you could supercid or use any other unlocked variant's cid, but this is just in thery if you wanna go ahead and try it yourself it is not my responsability, once you're s-off you could hard brick your phone and end up with a paper weight
If I am soff, flash wrong ruu then in theory I should be able to flash back right ruu and recover, is that true?

since you're s-off you can try changing your CID, there is an all-in-one tool that will help you with that on the FAQ thread for the sprint m8, just change your CID to 11111111

The correct command is
Su am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity
To unlock HK version simply do SuperCID flash reg sprint RUU versión 1.xx.xx android 4.4.2
And do the process, then freely flash back HK edición RUU also tested by myself
