Hi all !
I had OmniRom installed, and after trying to go back to my stock ROM via a CWM backup I had, I cannot restore backups from my external SD card anymore.
Whenever I try to restore a backup (either a newly made one or an old one), I have "error while restoring /data". The WM lock says "can't partition non mmcblk devide /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc1".
Backing up to the internal card and then restoring works.
I tried to move a backup from the external card to the internal card and then restoring, but it did not work (same error).
Any idea where this might come from ?
How can I solve this ?
Thanks !

Answering my own question : after reflashing boot.img from FXP250, restoring my backup worked ! I thought it was the one I had restored in the first place, but obviously I was wrong !

Hello,
So I was trying to install ICS on my nexus one... and like the idiot I am I made a NANDROID backup of my phone right before continuing with the installation of BlackRose. I made a partition of my SD card in Clockwork Recovery. With 1GB and a 256mb swap.
I rebooted the phone and see that my SD card is empty. Which probably meant my NANDROID backup was erased?
Is there a way I could recover this??? I just want my SD card data back .
And like a bigger idiot, I went back into Clockwork Recovery and did a factory wipe, (I thought I still had my nandroid backups), I tried to restore, but there was nothing in the SD card.
My main problem is that I want to restore my phone back to what it was... before I partitioned the SD card.
Right now I have a phone that is completely wiped and I cannot restart it because the setupwizard is bugged and force closes when I try to skip plus I don't have a system keyboard installed or a system launcher.
Stop using your sdcard for writing data and try this while the sdcard is connected via a card reader.
www.easeus.com/partition-recovery/
While you're at it, drop the SWAP partition. A waste of perfectly usable 256MB. You can find plenty of places where it's explained, why SWAP is a bad idea for Android.
Hey Jack_R1
How do I delete the partition?

partition sd card in recovery 0Mb for swap
while your at it hit THANKS for the guys on TOP ^_^
I've recovered the nandroid backup files.
My microsd card is completely empty.
Where do I go from here to restore the backup?
Do I make a folder in the root as clockworkmod/backup/ and put the files in there?
I've tried that and i keep get Md5 mismatch! Error.
This is my story.
- I followed this video (below) to ROOT (SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse) my phone.
in youtube search for: Rooting and installing custom ROM (LG Optimus 2x) HD by TheCooLuka
- Then I made a backup file on my Internal SD card as well as on my External SD card using CWM v.6.0.15. (There was a Clockworkmod folder containing: Backup and Blobs folders)
- I don't know if I did something wrong in this next step. I moved all of my files from my Internal and External (including the CWM files) to my computer. So that my phone's External and Internal SD cards were "empty".
- I then flashed to CM10, which worked great, except for the sound and mic probs.
- Now, I'm trying to return my phone to the stock ROM. I tried to flash my phone by re-importing the Clockworkmod folder (containing: Backup and Blobs folders), and running the Restore option in CWM, but it ends up BOOT LOOPING.
My question is how do I get back to my Stock ROM with my saved backup? What steps am I doing wrong?
(I'm with the Canadian carrier = FIDO, and I'm able to restore back to CM10, but I just want to figure this out)

Are you sure you Wiped Data/Dalvik/Cache? If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to NVFlash it back to stock.

u have to wipe all of the above before restoring. (from cm to stock)
also wipe system which u can found at mount option would be better.
Then restore your backup from external sdcard or u would end up boot loop.

I tried what you suggested. This is what I did:
- Moved my backup folder of "clockworkmod" containing the two subfolders (backup and blobs) onto my external SDcard.
- Then I put the SDcard into the phone.
- Booted into CWM Recovery v5.0.2.0
- Wiped data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and wiped Dalvik cache
- Formatted system through the "mounts and storage option"
- Then tried to restore.
This is the following msg I got:
- Checking MD5 sums.....
- Restoring boot image...
- system.img not found. skipping restore of /system.
- data.img not found. skipping restore of /data.
- .android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure.
- cache.img not found. skipping restore of /cashe.
- Restore complete!
Were not these files created with CWM restore? Am i missing files? Help?
These are the files in the BACKUP FOLDER of CWM:
.android_secure.vfat.dup
boot.img
cache.ext4.dup
data.ext4.dup
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.ext4.dup
I upgraded my CWM Recovery back to v6.0.1.5. and tried reflashing, but it still ends up bootlooping..
Concerning the following message, I read that sometimes you had to format (slow) the sdcard. So I did both (reformat sdcard and tried to flash with CWM v6.0.1.5), it doesn't give me the message any more, but it stilll bootloops. So I'm back on CM10 backup.
Checking MD5 sums...

System image not found. Skipping restore of /system
data.img not found. skipping restore of /data
.android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure
cache.img not found. skipping restore of /cache
sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext
Restore complete!
Any ideas?
Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I should do about this error which appears after restoring a Nandroid backup? The phone seems to be working ok so far. I've done Nandroid backup and restore several times without errors before but obviously something has changed.
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I cannot see any file called "recovery log" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder. There is a file called "recovery-update.zip".
I tried uninstalling/re-installing ROM Manager and then making and restoring a new nandroid backup but the result was the same. The backups are to the internal sd card.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I tried trawling around the forums for some hours as this seems to be a widely discussed issue but cannot find any clear explaination of the cause or fix.

do you use an external sd?
check if there is a clockworkmod folder in that.
Yes, there is a Clockworkmod folder on my ext/sd card. I wanted to do Nandroid backups there but the option to Use External Storage is greyed out on the settings page.
Right now, the only Nandroid backup I have in on the int/sd card

which settings page ?
in CWM you need to go to backup & restore and choose backup (this will backup to external SD).. there is another option to select backup to internal SD
I'm using ROM Manager (Premium) and under the settings there's an option to use external sd card but it's greyed out.

Use CWM directly to make backups to your desired storage
Can you tell me where to get CWM? I can only see ROM Manager on the Google Play site. I understand that RM is really just a front end for CWM but I'd have assumed the functinality would be the same.
Thanks again for the reply
if you are having hydracore the cwm will be already there. It's a recovery. you need to boot into recovery mode.
vol up + power + home
I have installed custom rom from zip and used it for several weeks.
Today I have decided to try new rom and I have made a backup trough CWM (6.0.2.5) in format .tar
I have tried to restore the backup. but the phone gives me a really strange error.
Encryption Failed. The system .. bla bla bla ... you need to reset your phone ..
I have tried to factory reset trough CWM, but the problem is the same.
I have tried to restore older backup ... the same error ...
Any ideas what is the problem and now to fix it (restore the rom)
I have tried the following ..
1. format /system /cache / data
2. install custom rom (CivZ v3.0)
3. take the setup wizard
4. reboot into recovery (CWM 6.0.2.5)
5. backup (.tar format)
6. restore from the backup
and .. the same error and no working rom ..
Can this be an internal SD memory problem ?
Any ideas ???
Anyone
Try backing up to external SD card. If that works, or you dont have an external SD card, backup and repartition your internal SD using AIO toolkit (choice 4 in the toolkit, then select the new unlocked ICS bootloader, and 512 MB system partition, or whatever your preferred size is, then run the internal SD fixer which follows that step) and try again.
The backup is on external SD
I have already repartitioned the internal SD with the default ICS layout (1.5G system)

Then try backing up to the internal SD and also try changing recovery to TWRP.
I have already tried TWRP but it cannot restore CWM backup
Currently I have stock rom , but I cannot rollback to the previous rom backup.
a few days ago I have used some app (found here in XDA) for optimizing internal SD .. is it possible this app to broke something in the internal SD ?

Hi! I assume that you were using the stock ics rom. Right? Stock ics use system partition as ext4 but data and cache are used as ext3. Since TWRP and CWM format data and cache as ext4 you cannot use your old backup of stock ics rom, unless you format both (data and cache) to ext3.
I created a zip which converts data and cache to ext3. Download from my attachment.
Flash the zip file then restore your backup.
Thanks :victory:
I will try
Hello guys , i have a problem with backup restoration on my z1. I made a few days ago a full backup on my ext sd card (everything went well) and now when i try to restore it the recovery only restores a part of that backup . The backup is 3.8gb but it only restores about 3 gb and at the end i get this error "volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error" , the phone boots up but the launcher and a lot off apps are missing . I tried to copy the backup folder by phone and pc to the internal sd card of the phone but i can't because i get an error. how i can restore the backup and what can be the problem? My bl is locked and i used xzDual recovery 2.8.21 and 2.8.23 but i get the same error when restoring. I don't have another sd card to test this. Any help is good.
Error: volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error
Have you tried mounting the drive that gives the error manually before starting restoring?

Yes but same thing. i can flash and backup anything from/to sd card but the restore is not working. Don't know why since i used the recovery many times before and everything was ok
