No problems here. Did you go into settings, storage, hit menu, select "USB Connection" and make sure the mass storage box was checked?

I have the Canadian Note 5 N920W8 and USB Debugging is greyed out and I can't find anyway to turn it on. Can someone help me with this?
Thanks
Maybe try restarting the device? I've got USB Debugging available to me on my N920W8. I don't know if there's a way to hide developer options and re-enable it, but I'd try that as well to see.
Thanks for your reply. Tried Power Off, restart, turned Developer Option off rebooted then turned the DO back on but still USB debugging is greyed out.
Do you think Factory Data reset would help?

Ah, glad to see you've fixed it! I disabled any Knox features so that would probably explain why mine wasn't greyed out.
Hello, I upgraded my nexus 6 using the factory image file 7.1.1 shamu-n6f26q-factory and everything is working fine. I got Developer Options visible so I can use the Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh like I always do and I cant get the pop-up where is says this PC allows ect or the "prompt for RSA fingerprint" as its called in the directions. I tried different USB ports and I tried selecting the different options and still no pop-up. Any Ideas?
OMG.... Please delete post! I have been messing with this for over an hour pluging and unpluging ect. and all it was is I turned debuging on but I didnt scroll down and tick the usb debuging on... Sorry guys its fixed!

I see, have you tried clearing the cache of MTP Host from Apps in the System Settings. Also try disabling USB Debugging.
I have this same issue using LOS 15.1. The solution is to go into Developer Settings and enable MTP using the 'Select USB Configuration' option. Then when you plug in via cable you will get the notification as normal. The problem is you have to do this every reboot, otherwise it's the same situation all over again. No Notification on plugging in and no way for your PC to see the device as it defaults to Charging mode.
I have "select USB conf" set as default (charging) and never had this issue. My PC sees the device even if I don't change the mode, I just don't see any files then. What drivers are you using?

I just installed the Official Oneplus drivers but it didn't help. I didn't think it would. The generic Windows 10 drivers were working fine with LOS 14.1. As you said, the PC does see the phone just fine, but not files until MTP is enabled.
It's the lack of a Notification when plugging in that's the problem. Without the Notification i can't switch from Charging to MTP mode. I've tried all Notification levels too. The only way to get the Notification to appear is to use the MTP setting in Dev Options, and then it works.. until next reboot.
Edit: Enabling 'USB Debugging' seems to be a working fix currently!

I spoke too soon about USB Debugging working. It doesn't help across reboots. Gonna Clean Install now. Hope you find a fix.
Clean install didn't help me. Just Google 'Oreo no mtp' to see how common this is.
I have a Nexus 5X on Oreo that doesn't have this problem. Other N5X owners do have it. It's totally random.
Good news everyone...
A fix is coming:

At least for LOS 15.1 and any other ROMs based upon it.
