[Q] Bootloader Screenshot, if Display faulty - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At first, sorry for my bad english.
My Question is, if my Display is broken, can i screenshot the bootloader or recovery with commands?
I had the One X and let it fall and my Display worked only sometimes, but i could see what i was doing so i flashed stock recovery and rom and relocked the bootloader so htc repaired it. If this happens again with my htc one, and the display doesnt work, how to know, if i am on the booloader menu, or fastboot and see if it all work? i want to unlock and s-off my device.
Second Question: If my device is s-off, should i go back to s-on or htc doesnt care about it?

1. Fastboot getvar all
2. They don't care

the other guy said everything correctly but I want to add that for me they repaired it with s off and they didn't charge me.. but sometimes if you are unlucky they will say that you have to pay... don't listen to them and phone HTC directly etc...

Ok thanks to both of you

[Q] Display won't turn on - warranty questions

Hey guys,
last week I've rooted my Sensation XL and flashed an ICS rom I found in this forum, namely
[ROMs][ICS] XL 3.6 (v1.2) & [GB] XL 3.5 [More supported Languages including Arabic]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649402
everything worked pretty fine and the rom was really slick but last saturday, after a call, I noticed that the display would not turn on anymore.
I could still receive calls and the soft-keys also seemed to work but the display was just black. I tried to remove the battery for 30 minutes and turned the phone on again but still no reaction - i can't even see the htc logo or the boot animation - nothing.
So, I guess that the thing or the display is fried and I'm planning to send it to HTC for repairing.
My questions now are:
* is my warranty now void, because I rooted the phone and flashed a custom rom to it?
* is there a way to flash a stock RUU firmware via PC/Htc Sync even though the display doesn't work?
thanks in advance
Lu
Yes you void warranty when you unlock bootloader.

durin the unlocking process it said on the htc site that "it COULD void the warranty".

thanks... That's what I think.
That's the reason why I was planning to send it to HTC for repairing.
But I'm not sure at this point if the custom rom on the phone will cause any problems with my warranty. I also believe that the guys who will repair it, can see that there's a custom firmware installed on the phone, and that it is rooted, even though the display doesn't work.
I also was planning to flash a stock rom vie PC but I learned that I have to re-lock the bootloader and unroot the phone for this procedure. And I think that this all won't be possible without a funtioning screen.
So I'm waiting for some experts to confirm that my only option is to send that thing, as it is, back to htc...

If HTC can get out of repairing your phone for free they will. Unlocking bootloader on its own is enough for them to say no. And a custom rom will be the cherry on the cake for them.

this is giving me hope...
So this has to be a known problem.
Do you know if your friend had a custom rom installed on his device and did he have problems with his warranty claim?
thank you
I used to have sensation XE and I S-OFF ed it then I realised the next day that it doesn't make phone calls so I took the phone back from where I bought it and the store give me a new phone without even checking if it is s-off/unlocked or not. So don't lose hope as they will not know if you unlocked it or not as the screen is not working

Don't send the phone on this condition you will lose warrenty
First flash the official rom of your region
Then relock the bootloader
Now you are ok send it to repair

Thanks for your warning. I really would like to flash a stock rom (e.g. from Runnymede's Shipped ROM Collection) but I'm not sure if this is even possible without a display (for instance, how to select entries in the bootloader menu, how to relock the bootloader, etc.).
Do you know if I could manage to flash a stock rom without a display, salahfathi?
thanks

relocking the booloader is quite easy, even without display.
totally powered off, then long press power button and vol - for 10 second.
then wait 20s,press vol- once, power once to go into fastboot mode
now back to pc using fastboot oem lock to get it relocked.
flashing RUU is the same.you need to boot into fastboot mode then run ruu on your PC.

ok, I guess it's worth a try.
Is it necessary to have USB debugging enabled? If so, and if I DONT have it enabled right now, is there a way to enable it without using the phone screen?

USB debugging is an android feature and has no effect in bootloader so its not needed. Like the other user says, there is no need to look at the screen when relocking bootloader or flashing an ruu from fastboot. But HTC will still know the bootloader has been unlocked as it will show on there diognostic software as "relocked" not "locked"

Ok, that's really great news. As soon as I get home I will try to:
unroot the phone
relock the bootloader
flash a custom RUU firmware
I found "only" 3 Roms that are for the European region in Runnymede's Shipped ROM Collection. I guess I'll try this one:
RUU_Runnymede_HTC_Europe_1.02.401.1_Radio_20.51.30.0822_3822.10.00
It's Android 2.3.5. with Sense 3.5.
Do you agree or is there a stock rom that is more suitable (I hab a T-Mobile branded 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 before)?
thank u very much guys, you are a great help!
As its a display problem most likely linked to hardware your warranty should cover the screen. Can you see bootloader screen? Follow instructions to flash ruu file as you can guess by checking in adb if phone is connected. Adb devices in cmd prompt will list serial. If that is listed then most happens on PC and will get message saying successful at end

And to be honest for your situation they should cover the screen for you cause this is hardware not software as it seems so .

I just downloaded the stock rom and now I'm waiting another 10 minutes for the phone to recharge a bit.

Hopefully this will work. I'll report back to you guys.

Since it says TAMPERED and UNLOCKED, somebody obviously unlocked it using HTCdev. I see you still have hboot 1.44 so you can s-off using revone and return it completely to stock.
BUT if you're new at this you shouldnt do it yourself, perhaps a friend of yours could help you out.

I have no idea why the store would do that, definitely not in their best interest. You should probably take it back to them and let them return everything to stock.

htc stuck in bootloader

so heres what happen
download Andriod revolution for the sprint htc one
it reloaded and went to the bootloader screen I didn't know what happened so I reboot the phone from the bootloader
it went back the bootloader and then without thinking I used the ruu and it relocked the bootloader and didn't even restore the phone so
now I'm stuck with a phone that's stuck on the bootloader screen with it locked and no usb debugging or recovery
is there a way to unlock the bootloader still or atleast enable usb debugging from cmd ? I still have the unlock.bin from the last time I unlocked the bootloader
any idea no phone for me until then

The problem was that there is no android revolution for the HTC one. You flashed an international Rom on the sprint variant and so it messed the phone up. You can still unlock the bootloader through the HTC website as before. Check the General section for the guides and the Q&A section to post your problems.
Also, check which RUU you used. Was it from the Sprint HTC one board or the general HTC one board?
I forget that typing in HTC one on the search brings general htc one forum anyway ...
I know how to unlock the bootloader but usb debugging isnt enabled and I don't have an os to enable it
Even tried the all in one to push the bootloader unlock and it just stays saying waiting for device

in the bootloader it uses fastboot actually so if you have those drivers from the unlock till you will be able to do the steps htc asks

Yeah so like the others said use fastboot to re unlock the bootloader, and by the way if you dont have s-off it will be harder to restore it, but if its the case, I would recommend just flashing a recovery and then pushing a rom and flash that. Hope that helps
Oh and always remember as long as you can access fastboot from the bootloader there is always a way to fix a software issue (for the most part)
I still have S-OFF and just tried the command "fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin"
Its been saying waiting for device for the last 10 mins .

UPDATE:Forgot i already tired this since i have the RUU on my desktop. Device Failed Enumeration is my biggest issue one post says he fixed the issue but doesn't state how. The Error shows up with any htc in fastboot i tried deleting htc sync and all its addons from Add/Remove and it didnt help.So currently only think standing in the way of restoring the unlocked bootloader is the fact windows 8.1 keeps blocking the connection and Ubuntu doesnt either work with rooting for me or just because i dont know how to use it :cyclops:

The thing is you have Verizon ... Verizon must be s-off to unlock the bootloader to flash custom recovery and roms. You say you "put wrong rom" on the phone. Do you mean a rom for a different phone (samsung - nexus ? ) or just a rom for a international HTC One ? are you still s-off ? can you post a picture of the bootloader before it reboots?

No ideas from my side:
S-On, relocked and no recovery on Verizon, only thing is a RUU.
If you can't boot in bootloader mode, there is nothing you can do.
you need to boot in bootloader to determine what ruu you need (if one available for your version)
and you also need to start the ruu from bootloader.
looks like the only solution is to send the phone for repair or maybe a JTAG repair...
k, thank guys for replay

HTC is messed up need to restore!

Okay guys I've kinda messed up my phone. I'm gunna try and keep this brief , but I need to relock and unroot my phone mainly for warranty purposes. My phone is In a reboot loop, i turn it on and it stays on for about a minute but then it turns off by itself (might be to do with a sunken in lock button I'm not sure). I want to send it back to htc so that they can sort out the lock button, but as it is rooted and unlocked , and simply not working i think my warranty is void.
I've watched various you tube videos and want to use an RUU to restore it , but I'm not too sure which one too use , (does it really matter?) . I am UK orange EE carrier . I've attached my phones details. Can anyone assist me further please , I am hopeless lol . Thank you if you've read this far.

if your power button is screwed up it's going to be pretty hard to get into the bootloader and recovery. I don't know of any RUU for your carrier (doesn't mean it don't exist just means I don't know about it)

Thank you if you've read this far.

anyway, forget the warranty even if you ruu the phone. the phone must be locked (not relocked) and tampered flag removed for the warranty to be valid. Setting the bootloader back to locked and removing the tampered flag require s-off, which will be impossible to achieve with a power button stuck (if this is really the case)
If you really think it's that you're better off getting some tiny jewlers screwdrivers and see if you can pop it back up because otherwise your warranty is void

if your power button is screwed up it's going to be pretty hard to get into the bootloader and recovery. I don't know of any RUU for your carrier (doesn't mean it don't exist just means I don't know about it)

That's the thing I'm not sure whether my phone constantly rebooting is a hardware problem or a software one. Also say if I was to use an RUU that wasn't 100% like what I needed what would be the risks ?

Say I was to send my phone to HTC in its current state do you think they'd send it back or charge me for the repair ?
Also when I hold down the power and volume buttons I can enter the boot loader and use it normally, I'm beginning to think that I don't have a hardware problem at all. Once in the boot loader it all works fine , is there anyway I can do a system restore to set back to default (I know it'll still be rooted) . But I would just like to get my phone functional again.
I'm using TWRP and believe there is a backup file on my phone. But the whole using a backup to restore always confused me.
Say hypothetical I have no button problem at all what would you do ?

From the way you explained your first post it sounded like it was bootlooping even in bootloader mode.
If the bootloader is ok, then put TWRP recovery 2.6.3.3 on your phone, push this to your phone sd card and flash it in recovery, during install, select wipe data, flash stock recovery but don't flash stock radio.

However, with TAMPERED and UNLOCKED in your bootloader, HTC will charge you for any repairs, the only way you can get rid of those flags is to S-OFF.

Thanks for that so that will get me to exactly how I had the phone when it came out the box , but just unlocked and tampered.
Does it have to be that version of twrp?
One thing that always confused me was the wipe data , doesn't that remove everything on the phone ? But does it not matter as we're pushing it onto the phone?
Is the link you posted for an RUU?

first you mention TWRP 2.6.3.0 update it to 2.6.3.3
if you have a TWRP backup restore it
if you use the guru reset you flash it from twrp
i've got TWRP 2.6.3.3. And i can use it perfectly fine , is it just a case of using the guru reset file to get me back to stock. im abit unsure on how to do this, do i put the zip file onto the phone and then run it in twrp?
Also guys how can i get the zip file onto the phone seeing as using the USB isn't working. Do i need to push it onto the phone? if so how?
