Hi. I have a MJ5 Note 3 rooted via Kingo, and it is completely stock other than that. The KNOX counters are still 0x0 and the Binary is still Samsung Official. However the system status shows Custom and I get the Custom padlock icon during boot. I have seen some references to Triangle Away being able to fix this on the Verizon variant. Has anyone tried Triangle Away on our N900A to remove the custom status? I'm a little hesitant to try it, because I don't want to chance it making one of the settings worse instead of better. I would like to hear if anyone has tried it on this phone and what the result was.
Thanks
Haven't used that. But Wanam exposed will remove the custom logo

I think it'll work, but why not just use Wanam?
It'll let you do a bunch of other things you want to do too (I don't know what you want to do, but I still feel pretty confident in saying that. The list of tweaks it enables is impressive), so you're going to end up installing it anyway.

To be honest, it is because I am familiar with Triangle Away and it's a simple app install. As for Wanam, I don't know anything about it or how to install it. It sounds like you first need to have the Xposed framework installed which I don't, and have never done either. I see a lot of people referencing Wanam and how useful it is, but I haven't run across a thread here in the AT&T Note 3 group that, explains where to get it and how to install it on the N900A.
Does it work with all firmware versions, is it easily reversible and the same goes for the Xposed framework?
It's an app on the play store. Just follow the instructions when u download it and it will install the framework. You need to be rooted first.

Xposed framework comes from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 (I wasn't able to find it in the Play store)
It's one of those things where the app you download installs/uninstalls/manages the framework- it can be reversed by uninstalling through app, and then uninstalling the app.
It is compatible with almost any rooted android 4.0 or higher device.
Wanam comes from the app store, and supports touchwiz roms running android 4.2 or higher.
Those will both work with any version of the note 3 firmware.
I've never used triangle away; I don't understand the motivation for hiding the padlock. I got rid of it with Wanam, but that's certainly not what I got Wanam for.
I just downloaded Wanam and one of the options was to install the framework

Actually what I am trying to do is change the custom system status back to Normal. That is what Triangle Away is capible of doing on some devices that are not running a custom recovery, custom Rom or custom kernel. If all Wanam does is hide the Custom padlock at boot, but the Device status still shows as Custom in the settings, and system still shows Custom in Download mode, then I agree, its not a good use of the tool.

Just checked, Wanam makes it look normal in device status and download mode, it doesn't just remove the padlock.
I still don't understand why we care if it shows custom in device status and download mode. Does this cause problems with some other software?

Thank you for checking. Did you have to download a separate module for doing this, and if so, which one?
My phone is used for work at a large corporation, and they are funny about unauthorized modifications or "hacking".

Only module you need is Wanam (and the xposed framework, of course)
Ah, I see - I'm not sure how well this will work for hiding your root access from your IT department, since anyone who is even vaguely familiar with android hacking need only look at your app list to determine that you're rooted - otherwise why would you have SuperSU, TiBu, and all the rest of those lovely root-required apps installed.

Did you root while you had MJ5 and it didn't trip the counters? I'm suspicious of this Kingo app because I've never dealt with it before. My phone luckily has an older version so I was able to use the Root DeLaVega without issue, but my wife's Note 3 has MJ5 and I want to root it.
Also, Wanam is awesome. I used it to get rid of the Custom mark as well as many other things I love about my phone.

Yes I rooted while on MJ5 with Kingo and it didn't trip the KNOX counters or change the Binary status. All it did was change the system status to Custom and invoke the pad lock during boot. I installed Xposed Framework and Wanam this weekend and it repaired them both.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me with this process.

Kingo doesn't trip the counters.
There's also this method of rooting, which uses the trick used by RDLV - it's a bit of a big deal, though, since it's meant to be a way to recover from a bricked/mangled device:

I watched a few YouTube videos while researching it, and I found several saying it tripped their KNOX flags, that's why I was worried. I successfully used it to root my wife's Note 3 last night without issue. So I had no problems. She too is on MJ5.

Has anyone had a problem with the intial setup for Good for Enterprise on custom Android ROMs? I installed it (using an issued PIN) on stock eclair on my Captivate and it worked fine. I then rooted, backed it up via TIBU and restored on Froyo and it still worked fine. The same process worked recently on Gingerbread. However, I have tried multiple custom Froyo ROMs and 1 GB recently and if I try the initial setup (with a new PIN) on anything other than stock eclair (even rooted), it will stop at "retrieving policies" and never complete. I then have to ask for a new PIN from my IT support and revert to eclair and finish the setup, backup, and restore on the later custom ROMs. Has anyone seen this and have any idea why? My IT support has no idea. I am not in a policy checking for root access and it does continue to work with root.
EDIT: I wonder if it is that the device name used in build properties is referenced during that step and it fails due to an unknown device...
Also, I have found that after I have it working after a certain PIN used, if I ever restore to an ealier point (due to a theme gone wrong, etc) then it stops syncing even if the restore point is AFTER I had it working with that PIN. It seems like the local software either is exchanging a dynamic password with the server or there is a message index, etc that has to be in sync. Any thoughts?
When in the Good setup screen, go to Menu>Device Info. Does the Phone number appear? I've been using CM7 just fine with Good but after the last few nightlies, Good no longer works. The phone number doesn't appear in the device info. Good thinks there is no phone network present.
I am a heavy Good user, unfortunately also addicted to changing ROMs on a frequent basis. I have never had an issue with Good running on any ROM, just on restoring from TiBu. I can flash new kernels, themes, etc, and Good works just fine. If I re-flash the same ROM, it resides and works just fine. It is only when flashing a new ROM I have problems. Good appears to restore OK, but won't pull new emails to the inbox. I ave to get a new PIN and re-install.
Same here.. i am addicted to flashing as well.
I tried Titanium backup to backup and restore to new ROM, but somehow Good just keep crashing after i put in my password.
I am sure I can ask for new pin, reinstall and what not.. but how often can we ask IT people (for my company at least) for new pins, until one day they may say, bugger off you ROM addict!
Finally figured it out, I think. The trick is to NOT have Good running in persistent mode when you do the backup with TiBu. IOW, reboot and backup with TiBu before you start Good and log in. I did that the last couple of new ROMs and it restored and worked just fine.

Good with custom roms
Just to share a recent experience on that topic:
I wanted to have a custom rom but need GFE for my work which of course has a policy of no root with GFE.
So after a little research and useful info from this forum I figured a very simple way to do it, as long as you don't consider root as critical for your day-to-day stuff
1. Install your custom rom which most likely requires rooting
2. Install SuperSU from the Play Store and use it to remove root completely
3. Install and activate GFE
That's it!
Hoope this helps someone else how got a little scared to have to go through scripts and stuff to do this

Does this still work?
I too need GFE on my Galaxy S4 but am sick of the poor battery life. I tried SlimKat and Google Play Edition roms, and removed root using Super SU in both cases. But GFE gives a message "Not supported for this type of Handheld". . Not sure if GFE is looking for a TW based ROM.
I will give it another go using Carbon ROM. Still, any other advice / experience on getting GFE working on a custom ROM would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

You quoted a 1 year old post, might be hard to get a reply. Also this is for the S1, while the app (GFE) might be the same, the ROMs definitely aren't.
That being said, chances are that the app was updated to prevent that workaround. You could flash a TW based ROM and test it though.
Thanks for the reply. I will try posting a fresh question in the Q&A thread in case anyone has more recent experience with GFE. Cheers.

There is an xposed module for this.
Hi, are you referring to Wanam Xposed which has a "fake official system status" functionality?
As I understand, Xposed needs root, but Good for enterprise doesn't work on a rooted handset. Can Xposed work without root?
Also Wanam Xposed is meant to work with TW based ROMs whereas I don't want to go back to TW based ROM unless it is extremely light.

I'm a bit confused here, Custom ROMs are pre-rooted. Therefor, if you're not on TW, you're rooted.
And yes, Xposed does require root. As for Wanam, I duno if it works on AOSP but best way to know is you try
Thanks for replying.
Supersu has a Full Unroot functionality which removes root.
Yes I will try, but every failed attempt sends an email to office admin so I have to be prudent.

The link above mentions that root is required while installing XPosed, but later it can perform without root. Is this correct or not?

I have never personally tried it without root but you can test that fairly easily. I expect it would depend on the module you're using, some require more permissions than others.
I tried it out but it didn't work.

Rooted my AT&T Note 3 with Kingo - great - easy.
Trying to get rid of the *Custom* sign and lock at the boot screen.

Went into WANAM security hacks tab and checked for taking off Custom.
Rebooted as instructed.
Doesn't work.
Any ideas / workarounds ?

Yeah, it's odd. Doesn't work for me either. Even after multiple reboots. I'd love for someone to chime in for more details. I know this has been talked about somewhere, but the only answer I remember was selecting fake official status in Wanam and reboot a few times after that. After many reboots, it's still CUSTOM, but Knox and everything is 0x0. Thanks.

That's really weird, because this worked fine for me. I didn't do anything differently though, are you sure you have Wanam enabled in the Xposed Framework? After you download a module you usually have to enable it. I would try unchecking and checking, rebooting in-between.
It's true. You have to enable that module within the Xposed App. Try a total shut down and not just a reboot as well.
Pull your battery. After that, the icon will go away. You also need to go look at your About Phone and see system status. Make sure it shows Official (It should). Good Luck and let us know....
When I removed the "Custom" icon from startup screen, it took more than one reboot cycle to go away.
The first reboot after applying the setting, there was still the "Custom" and unlocked lock. I thought nothing of it, since I didn't really care... But at some point after that, with no further action in Wanam, the "Custom" stopped showing on reboot.
I rooted again with the same method and custom miraculously vanished.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I personally have root so I can fully utilize Titanium Backup to backup my entire phone, block ads, use Folder Mount to force files to be saved to my external SD card, install Cerberus as a system app to utilize more of its features, and install Xposed Framework and Xposed Modules to endlessly customize my phone and add additional functionality to it. It's up to you whether or not you think rooting is worth it. With that said you can always update to the official AT&T 4.3 firmware using the Odin files found in this thread.
Good points for your purposes granted. But I loved to change roms on my gs2 until I found cm, then I stuck with that one as my fav. I'm just frustrated that it is not that easy or even possible anymore, at least with this phone that I like and plan on keeping for a while.

Hey Devo, you run xposed framework on the stock rom with no issues? I had some problems with it on my sgh-i537 and some of the modules wouldn't work at all. If I tried to install the hypderive device tools(shutdown) menu, when I use the shutdown button my phone locks up and just shuts off, no menu ever appears. I really like alot of the hyperdrive functions, I'd love to be able to add the hyperdrive tweaks too, but never had any luck there either.

Ok, I see. so whatever is in your slots can affect your stock rom as well? I also ran GPE in another slot for a while and I liked it, but with the aroma installer and the hyperdrive tweaks, it really is something I'd like to stick with. I wish I understood more about what is shared and what isn't between roms in slots and the deal with the locked bootloader. We're a long way from Windows Toto, lol. Then again, I do networking, not programming so much.
So, do you run the advanced power menu module on your stock ROM? I really like the HyperDrive version, I think it's called HyperDrive Device Menu or something.
I want to say I installed wanam and xposed from apk files, no flashing. Maybe I need to start there. Thanks again.

I don't think that the Rom slots impact each other unless you are running low on space.
I don't have am advanced power menu and I'm not sure what the Hyperdrive one looks like. That said Wanam had a couple of options that extend the power menu that are worth a try.
Everything I've installed has been by directly installing an apk. Except for dark dialer, dark contacts, and call recording.

You need to open up the zip file and look inside the folders to see what files are flashed and where they ate flashed. This will tell you what files were changed our added then you can manually remove them. I would also ask the creator to post a zip that removes the necessary files to return to stock. It should be easy enough.

Quite a few apps don't work without root access. Plus it is necessary to be able to use tethering without a separate plan. Battery doctor, quickboot, app quarantine, and titanium backup are just a few on mine.
I have rooted my note 3 via towelroot (thank you so much geohot!!!). I have installed exposed framework, supersu, busybox and safestrap. Here is the question: my note switches from device status custom to official. On some boots it will have the custom status icon on screen. Some boots it does not. This corresponds to the system info as well....sometime shows custom and sometimes official. Why is this? Its no big deal i'm just curious. Thanks.

Once you rooted you customized the software. That custom padlock logo is a tattle tale telling on you! I believe your using an xposed module to "fake system status" in order to fool certain people. The xposed module is failing when you see this. It's possible an update, or setting was applied to the module making it fail. Or maybe it's losing it's superuser rights. I had the same thing happen to me. I used triangle away and haven't seen it again. It will surely come back on a factory reset I'm sure.
This happened to me as well and I know its not the xposed because I checked it. This has only happened 3 times and has not happen in like 4 days I checked my system and it says everything is official it did say custom the 3 times it happened I did do a factory reset and it still says official my question is has anyone found a way to unroot for warranty porpoises? Su will not unroot towelroot from what im seeing ...but if everything says official would you even need to worry about unrooting lol I mean if u just factory reset and sent it back I shows no sign of root its all official and no knox tripped ..just a thought ..

Freezing "sysscope " on my sgs4 removed the custom unlock boot logo /icon like a charm, however it still bounces back and forth between official and custom on device status when looking.

Thanks.

Remove "busy box" file in XBIN system folder. Found this solution on a "Galaxy S4" forum. For a some reason a system keeps some leftovers after the full recovery done. Kinda wrong.
As the title says...I'm considering doing root in my V2. I just got my replacement note an hour ago. I immediately paused the update because I read somewhere on here that once you update, you won't be able to root. I was looking forward to root till I started thinking about what types of abilities I would actually lose by rooting?
What I can think of from the top of my head is:
1) No Samsung/Android pay
2) Some games won't let you play if you're rooted.
3) Some games won't let you play if you have xPosed installed (such as Marvel Future Fight)
4) Can't do software updates to make my phone faster/fix anything that is wrong (can't I just install the software updates after installing root? Or will that just remove the root?)
5) Voids warranty
Anything else I might lose?
I'm excited for xPosed cause I need me some modules such as snapprefs, and youtube playing in the background. I also like having the ability to change things around the device and such
Is there a way to get around the "xPosed detected" in those types of games by the way?
Luckily for you, the current root does not trip knox
1) Samsung pay will not work, but with right xpose set up Android pay will. The good news is if you ever go back to stock, Samsung pay will work again (knox not tripped)
2) Some games indeed will not work, but with the right xpose app you can fix this by hiding root from it.
3)I did not know that! They getting fancy now...but I can see reason why. I guess no Marvel Future Fight for you if you have xposed than. I know you can hide root from apps, not sure you can hide xposed from apps.
4)You cannot do software update, this is true. The run around for this is to wait for a developer, or even Jovy do a deodex of the new update and you can install that while keeping your old bootloader (for root to work). There is a possible downside to this...samsung is known to make their software run very funny if you are not on the corresponding bootloader. P.S. I never recommend taking a software update while you are rooted (assuming it will even install depending on what you have frozen or block). Just dont risk it.
5) TECHNICALLY your warranty will not be voided with current root method. Knox not tripped = Warranty in place.
As you can see, you are not really loosing much.

You'll lose secure folder and if you update shealth after the root process it will no longer run.

Oh yeah, I've heard about the shealth thing, just update it before you root and you'll be good It's a shame about the secure folder...:/ Anyway to go around it to be able to use it just like the shealth?
Seems like rooting will somehow cripple your device...wow times have changed.

I had heard even if you update s health before rooting once your rooted it wont open due to root.
This is the first Android device I've own that I feel no need to root. Sure I'd love to have Viper4Android running but can't justify all I'd lose to run one app that requires root.

I feel ya, I'm on the same boat, but I'd really enjoy some xposed modules lol. I'm an audiophile and haven't had Viper4Android since the S5 and I miss it lol
