[Q] Water Proof: Function not Supported - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i just got my Xperia Z1 for X-Mas and didn't try the Waterproofness yet.
What i did, was becoming Pop-Up Messages, that my USB-Port is not closed right, but it was/is!!!
Today i went to the Service Menu ( Dial: *#*#7378423#*#* ) and saw the testoption: Water Proof, but i was not happy with the result:
This device does not support the function.
Is it just a Software thing or did you, who actually put it into a bowl of water or anything, got a positive result out of the test?
I would like to post a picture, but i'm not allowed yet :-/
Thanks already for your help!

When the USB Port is closed is it waterproofed. Close all Ports and have fun under Water. But only 1,5 Meter.! I have Test it and it works fine.

I know that, but the question is, why do i get the pop-up message if all port ARE closed AND why does the service menu say it isn't water proof
Could you please check your device in the service menu for me, since you already tested it under water.
thx

Does the irda test work?
This waterproof test is hardly connected to your flaps...
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app

That message appears whenever you disconect the phone from charging and sometimes (in my case) when i get out of some third party apps. It has nothing to do with the flaps.
That test in the service menu is irrelevant. It also has nothing to do with the waterproofness of the phone.
Anyway, nevermind those warnings.

I also get the message and always use my phone under water. Nothing to worry about. Make sure all the flaps are firmly closed!

The Z1 doesn't have IrDA ! Why should the test work?
Anyway gonna give it a try tomorrow, we will see what happens =)
But still, what is your result at the Water Proof test?

Same as you. As said, the test is not connected to your flaps. That's why I mentioned irda, why do they list the test if there is no irda? I wouldn't put an eye on this tests. My water attempts ended all perfectly...

Works!
Sorry forgot to post.
Did the test and my Z1 is still running
Conclusion: Service Menu Info and Flap Pop-Up are not decisive.

Don't forget, the phone doesn't actually know whether or not the flaps are closed. It can't physically tell one way or the other, the pop ups are just a simple reminder, my Z used to give me them all the time, then they stopped one day and never came back.

It's all good it's a protection against the water. Sony says that you need to let it dry for 3 hours.
It will work fine around that time.

As this thread is about speakers, while listening to either a movie or music, the sound is only coming out the bottom speaker for me, is there a setting somewhere I need?
There is only 1 speaker, which is at the bottom.

Ah ok thanks, I must remember to hold my phone upside down then when someone calls, so I can actually hear what they are saying! lol
Mine isn't!
My Sony Xperia Z got "some" water flushed into it, now speaker is very very low (hardly heared on full volume).
8 Hours , have passed still no change?
I think something is wrong other than water what could it be? It didn't fall, hit something hard (all elegant handling)
Advise me people!

[Q] Problem with my Xperia Z

Hi. Before I went to the gym recently, my XZ was working perfectly. Nothing was wrong. After the gym (I use it to listen to music), suddenly my volume down button was not working. Power up did. And then, my power button stopped, and nothing start working, then everything started working again and then nothing, screen going on and off :S Turning off the phone wont go, because it just reboots itself, and then into safe mode.
Can't turn it in to warranty either because I am rooted and have addes som mods. Can't go into flashmode, because volume down button won't work... What has happened to my XZ?
Just checked the ports, no water has touched the white dots so they are still white. But phone are still crazy
UPDATE!
Alright guys, here is an update. I was at the store to return it for warranty, since the phone went all mad, turning off, turning on, vibrating. I opened my flap the headphone jack.. The water indicator was PINK! As I am very carefull with my phone, all in general. I always make sure that all the flaps are closed 100%. I know, that I have to close all the flaps, since if it is going to be submerged in water, it must be closed. But here is the funny part. The flap where we put the simcard in... As the flap is only opened at first to put in the simcard... There is no other reason why I should open that. And guess what.. The water indicator there was also pink! I saw that when I was turning the phone back in to warranty since I got asked to take out my simcard. So I am thinking on how my simcard port/opening whatever got pink since it clearly has been to contact with water..
So now I am worried that I am not gonna get my phone back repaired. Now it is my word against Sony's word.. But how did water actually get in the simcard flap...
Send it for repair, they won't even check if you've rooted

I think I have to do that. Just wierd what happened to it. But is there a way to flash it back to stock? Since going into flashmode is hard when volume down is not working.. Don't want to take any chances that if the check the phone. Right now the phone is just sitting there, don't want to touch anything.

Usually this is not a problem for me either. I also used to wash my XZ with all the flaps shut ofc under the spring, because of all the sweat. But after today, this is new for me. And this time, I didnt wash it..
So don't know what to do now.
I think in your case you can flash a firmware with flashtool cause the volume down button is stuck.
Did you try it?
Connect the usb and start the flashing and when you see the pop up about connecting your phone in flashmode than reboot your phone.

The problem is that volume down button is not reacting to anything. Right now, the only functioning button is volume up. Power button and volume is not doing anything. That is why it is hard to use flashtool or SUS..

No, sadly my phone is not working. Went all crazy. Just updated what happened when I was returning it.
the gym is possess...quit the gym...return for an exchange and go to a new gym.
the white thing inside the ports only reacts to water, so it does not make sense at all if it just happened to turn pink without any contact with the water. Seems to me that someone might had gained access to your phone without you knowing and damaged it in purpose..

At least a few days, preferably a week with all flaps open and DO NOT turn the phone on during that time.
If you're very very lucky, you will have avoided any permanent damage from corrosion or shorting out of components.

Curved and scracthed Xperia Z1

In the 4 years time i NEVER broke a Smarthphone and only a single scratch in the screen.
This is the first of the (Iphone1-Sony x10-Samsung note 1, note 2, now x1) 5 smarthphones to have a fully scratched screen and broke down.
Im sure of the fact that the upcoming year i wont be having a smarthphone of this premium class or insurance must cover it (I doubt it)
I noticed my Xperia Z1 was heavenly scratched today.
Then i went looking for XDA to say this issue and the screen went weird.
The touchscreen did what he wanted and not me. So i became angry.
How the **** can this happen!
Then the screen went off. I was like W T Hell!???
LED flash turned on and stayed that way.
I wanted to press reset button and came to the conclusion the phone is curved...
How???
Screen doesnt turn on, Computer doesnt detect it.
Lets press Reset button.
Led goes off. But nothing else works anymore.
Volume up and power or volume down doesnt work either.
Sony says i got to contact them and send the phone.
Wich will i quess 100% result into me paying a big amount of money to fix it...
The phone doesnt turn on and has items that are not allowed to be seen by others (classified) .
I got to send it to the insurance company.
Anybody knows how to get these files of the phone?
Computer doesnt see it. And it doesnt turn on.

It dropped from half waist-shoulder (Chest?) height onto the shower mat.
It came out after it as a curved phone.
It is utterly destroyed. Not even a single piece of glass is broken.
The inner part is broken thought...
When i press power button it lowers the brightness of the flash light.
But i dont need the data inside the phone.
I need to get RID of it.
So the insurance company cant get it.
How can i do this?
I cant touch the phone ferther (Breaking it more). If i was allowed i would do it...

If i get a new one. If... I am never going to take it off.
But look at this:
Phone 100% intact. Except for the insides.
So the outside is strong as hell. Better then any other phone.
But the inside wich is the most important of a phone... Yeah you know it.
My Note 2 had some paint of the sides (grey bezel). Costed me 25 euros and 4minutes to replace.
This phone on the other hand.
I either have it insured 100% (own fault) and have to pay 250 own risk. Or i dont get it insured. (Insurance for everything in the house including electronics)
My phone insurance was still on Note 2. I just had the Xperia Z1 new and didnt put it over yet.
F my life!
If it isnt insured. Well i still got a Sony ericsson Cybershot K770 wich is like??? 7-8 years old...
I cant pay 700 euros for a new premium phone

goto love this.. you dropped your phone and are asking for a software repair..
sort it with your insurance, and if you don't have insurance, tough!
New pictures and a video.
In the video you can see it isnt straight anymore at all.
It is curved like the Samsung galaxy curve. But then the lenght direction instead of the weidth.
I hate it to see it like this.
And i gave my Galaxy note 2 to my dad as birthday present. But i have to get it back now for a few days till i got a cheaper replacement for my Sony or insurance cover.
I got a budget of 200,- atm for a new phone if i must.
So i hope i can get atleast 500 euro out of insurance or full cover of the 750 euros.
But i wont be buying an Sony Z1 anymore if i can choose.
I am going back to plastic phones.
They are more premium to me then this junk...
How can a phone go in a curve like this from such a height???
I hope Sony replaces it. Apple replaces an iPhone for 150€, not matter what you did to it.
I don't want to put my Z1 into an ugly case...

I think you must be blind.
I am ASKING HOW TO GET MY DATA OFF. Not a software repair.
There is classified data on the phone. I need to get it out.
I am not saying i need the software fixed so it runs again.
There is something snapped inside or popped out of the flex cable connectors.
And i am not going to open it so my insurance will say get lost.

Simple answer to your question is no, the only thing you can try and do and thats if your phone will even do this is to use flashtool to flash a firmware and this will wipe your phone atleast all your "classified data" will be deleted. If the phone is that messed that it wont do that then your stuck im afraid....sorry

Then the sealings was compromised and the phone died in the shower?

I thought the same. That kind of bend does not occur from a drop within reasonable hight, not even beyond so. It looks just like it's been in a back pocket and sat on, almost forcibly so.

This phone with it's weight not even being 200g, don't build up the force form dropping to bend it self...

[VIDEO] So I Poured water on my Nexus 5

I have never before in my life poured water on any of my devices on purpose, so I was kind of nervous doing this, but hey it was fun!
Uhhhh...... Why did you do that. You realize that you just got a lot of water inside your phone via the ear speaker. It is highly possible that something will short out, and corrosion will build up all over inside of the phone, possibly damaging it slowly over time.
Really shocked as I work on WD phones all the time and know they can get bad.
Well done I guess...
Why??
Thanks for the test but I feel you shouldn't have done that...
If it was water proof, IP7 standard, then that is the only way a test like this would even be uselful.
Or logical.

You should not have done that.
Think of all the folks waiting for their Nexus 5 especially us in India.
This test would have made sense on the Sony flagships with IPX certifications.
Not on the nexus 5!!!!
Better put your phone in rice.
This might help you.

Dude! You've just sentenced your phone to a long and slow death. It may appear to be fine right now but over time that liquid contamination will begin to eat away at the sensitive components of your phone.
If I were you I'd strip that phone and go over it with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. I've seen what water does to the phones and it's not pretty.
