Help! I'm stuck i think only softbrick hopefully - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

think i soft bricked my phone, can someone help me please,
I was on monx (257)
I flashed monXdifedZ-Honami-290_v03.00-02P] rom 4.3 from recovery
switched off my phone,
then used flashtool instructions with generic UK (290) excluding system only because there was no TA option, but at the end of flashing it said
"For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings"
but I cant boot my phone now to enable USB debugging and i cant get into recovery
I made a twrp backup of my (257) before flashing so what shall i do now???
I'm guessing I should flash stock 257 but I dont know which options to tick in flashtool??
also will i be able to root and install recovery again on 257 or do i need to go back to 534?

I now flashed stock 257 with flashtool, i still have my files and apps, but i have lost my nav bar, notification panel, root and recovery
edit: im back on 290 it was the generic uk 290 ftf that was cauding me problems,
only thing now is when i get a phone call the picture is really squashed and the green and red button are next to eachother directly.

Root Guide For 4.2.2

All credit goes to @zhuhang. I have no contribution to it.
Original thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45344021
This method will help you gain root access on the latest .67 4.2.2 update that Sony recently pushed out.
Disclaimer:
- This requires a PC.
- No CWM needed.
- This installs a Chinese root manager rather than superuser or superSU. But I will teach you how to replace it below.
Instruction:
1. Download the rooting application. (This app can root many other devices )
VRoot_1.6.0.3690
http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3...3690_Setup.exe
2. Install the app. This is a Chinese app so I will guide you. Below is a step by step screenshot attached guide.
3. Start VROOT and root now!
4. Now we need to install SuperSU from play store to replace the Chinese root manager called 授权管理 1.0.4.
5. Go to play store and install SuperSU.
6. Start SuperSU and you will be asked for permission by 授权管理 1.0.4, choose 允许(means allow). (Should be the right side option.)
7. SuperSU will prompt to install SU binary, go ahead with OK and it will display successful.
8. Now, freeze 授权管理 1.0.4 in titanium backup, just in case you need it again.
Note: If you uninstall straight away from app manager, you need to make sure SuperSU updated the binary.
9. Re-run SuperSU to make sure everything is alright. You will be prompt again to install SU binary, just do what it asked.
10. After that, you are rooted with SuperSU and 授权管理 1.0.4 will not be there anymore.

Can someone upload an ftf with just the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin for the C5503? I tried creating one using C5502 kernel and i got stuck in a boot loop. luckily my battery was just at about 10% and so I quickly flashed back the 4.2.2 Kernel of the 5503 and all is well.
Once we get the kernel only ftf, can test and create guide for rooting 5503 on 4.2.2

Tried with the C5503 kernel. Same boot loop. I think we'll have to find an alternate root method, as unlike the Z, the ZR doesnt have .234 firmware [that is also 4.2]
Experimenting with the Z firmware. Wish me luck
Why not flash only kernel from the previous firmware? Isn't working?
UPD. I see - not work

I have rooted mine already (ie. Android 4.2.2). You have to unlock your bootloader for this method to work.

Firstly you need to unlock your bootloader. Google that, its easy. OR you can do it through flashtools (not tested).
Enable USB Debugging and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding.
Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia ZR which was rootable.
Reboot your Xperia ZR after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL.
Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia ZR and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
Now switch off your Xperia ZR. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
Now you need to flash the true kernel of Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware of Xperia ZR.
After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia ZR is now rooted

So basically you're doing:
Use FlashTool to flash the 4.2.2 FTF
Downgrade the kernel by using FlashTool back to 4.1.2
Run the DoomLord rooting kit
Flash back 4.2.2 kernel using FlashTool
To flash the kernel you need an unlocked bootloader. What I don't understand is how to flash the kernel only? I found the kernel.sin inside the FTF file. Can I just delete other .sin file and flash the remaining FTF file?
Sorry if my questions are noob.

You need to keep the kernel.sin and bootloader.sin in the ftf and delete the rest. Also don't delete the META-INF file.

The problem is the bootloader? I thought doom's thread said that this was for locked and unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will lead to a lot of people avoiding the root method.

So is an unlocked bootloader NEEDED for this method to work for ZR? I thought DoomLord said it works for both.

Edit. I recommend not trying to root using this method. Wait till theres a definitive rooting method.

Yes. I fixed the bootloop issue. Need any help with the bootloop?
If you've got a bootloop, pull the battery asap as once it dies, you won't be able to flash ftf and the device will be bricked.
To fix bootloop [and still not get root access]
1. Open the 4.2.2 ftf file in flashtool.
2. Exclude everything [tick in the exclude box] except the kernel, and untick everything in the wipe box [data, applog]
3. Flash the kernel by pressing the volume down button while plugging in USB cable [DONT PRESS POWER BUTTON AFTER BATTERY PULL AS OTHERWISE YOU'LL GO BACK INTO BOOTLOOP]
4. After it flashes [should take a couple of seconds], reboot and you should be back to normal
I REPEAT PULL THE BATTERY IF IN A BOOTLOOP OR YOU'LL LAND UP WITH ANOTHER PAPERWEIGHT

So again you're not successful in rooting 4.2.2 using the kernel switching method?
i think the kernel switching fix will not work on ZR.. we don't have a rootable 4.2 kernel
i think the 423 kernel is 4.2

It happened to me also, but it's possible to recover from it.
Install PC Companion on your PC.
Go to Support Zone.
First option -> Update phone / tablet software.
You will see a underlined link that says "repair phone / tablet"
Just follow the instructions.
You will need your phone to have at least 50% battery level. Take out the battery, insert again, and connect your phone to your PC via USB while pressing the Volume + button. You will hear a sound coming from your PC meaning it's been connected.
Sony PC Companion then will flash your phone with the latest firmware. It takes a while and you need to have internet connection, but it works.
As you flashed the Russian system rom, the firmware installed in your phone by Sony PC companion will be the Russian Android 4.2.2. No problem with this as it includes all the languages.
Do this as soon as possible as you need your battery charged and you can't charge the battery in your phone while in the bootloop state.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure what we did wrong to be stuck in a bootloop, but after my ZR being reflashed by Sony PC Companion I just flashed the Nordic 4.2.2 ROM and my phone remains unrooted until there is a easier method to get root

[Q] Relock Bootloader

Hey, I've got a problem with my SP and want to repair it with PC Companion which, you know, only works with phones with locked bootloader. My phone's bootloader is unlocked. I read the post from DooMLoRD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721&highlight=relock+bootloader
I'm on the SP DoomKernel v3 and I know, that I have to flash back the stock kernel, if I want to relock my bootloader. I think the (or a) stock kernel is that one: http://d-h.st/fv8
But DooMLoRD mentioned in his post, not to take the FTF file but the kernel.sin and I don't know how to extract it or from where I can get it.
Please help!
Avoid PC Companion or Update Service. Just turn off your phone and use Flashtool to flash any .ftf you want. After flashing everything stock, turn on the phone for a few minutes, then turn it off and relock the bootloader.

Okay, but the link to the Download page of the .ftf is stock, isn't it? And why shall I avoid PC Companion and SUS? my Phone apk is broken I need to repair it. Or is there an other possibility even for unlocked bootloader? I mean I only want to lock it because I want to repair. Or should the problem go if I flash a custom ROM?
If you are having a problem with an specific .apk try to diagnose why it is force closing or not working properly. Try clearing the app's data and wipe cache and dalvik cache from recovery. If the problem persist try a factory reset...if nothing solves the problem you may need to reinstall that ROM
In case of a bootloop Use any .ftf from a C5303,02 or 06...It will resurrect your dead phone. I have the stock firmware for the C5303. Its o2 branded but it works great, It has File Comander pre-installed and all Sony bloatware you could ever want. I love it! Download it from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nm8c4nwb7sxdblt/C5303_12.0.A.2.254_o2.ftf
If you dont like the boot animation or shut down animation you will need to root. Shut down animation is located on system/vendor/overlay. Search for
com.sonyericsson.shutdownanim-res.apk and delete it.
UNLOCKED PHONES CAN'T USE PC COMPANION OR UPDATE SERVICE. And even trying an Update OTA it may brick the phone.
Hmm.. I tried all those things but reinstall rom. But how can I reinstall the rom? I haven't got any nandroid (or other) backup before the phone apk broke. And in development section there is only the deodexed stock rom 12.0.A.2.254 and the odexed stock ROM 12.0.A.2.245. Which one of them is the right one?
Okay. I already have had a bootloop, caused by restoring an system backup, and solved it myself.
Yes, I got the advice to relock bootloader and repair with PC Companion. But if there is a possibility to solve the problem without relocking bootloader this would be really really great!
Reinstall a recovery or use doomlord's kernel (custom kernels like doomlord's have a recovery)
Reinstall any ROM you want or use flashtool to repair your phone. This will erase everything but the external microSD card.
Flashool works with locked or unlocked bootloaders.
Thank you! That helped me I'll try it very soon

I guess you've hard bricked your device and it's possible that you can't recover it...... You should've read BEFORE you flashed that rom, it clearly states that it is for UNLOCKED bootloader ONLY!!!
Anyways, is it possible to get into the recovery? Or doesn't even the sony logo show up?
If you can't get into recovery, try to flash a stock kernel via flashtool, but idk though if that's possible at your phone anymore
Yep, i know it was stupid.
Im not possible to get into the recovery.
The Sony Logo doesnt show up, but when i try to turn it on, it vibrates, like it normal does.
Ive already written that when i try to flash a kernal it says debugging is off.

No you tried to flash the stock ftf file, I meant that you should try to flash the stock kernel. Simply extract it from the file, or search for it here on xda, I'm pretty sure it is somewhere
Which file?
And how do i flash stock kernal, please explain im really new in android.
Please give me some more advice
Try searching development forums, there are some ftf files that can be downloaded for you to try. Do not cross flash by the way, just a reminder, be sure its for your model.

Assuming that you are running windows.
1. Download android sdk to get fastboot and adb
2. Put your phone into the fastboot mode and install drivers. Your notification diod should be blue when connected to the PC.
3. Download stockkernel.zip from this post and extract it in the same folder as fastboot.exe is located.
4. Open command line in that folder.
5. Type: fastboot.exe flash boot kernel.sin.
6. Flash the ftf
This should fix it

Xperia zr still stuck with some sort of bootloop

Ok so i got problems with using layers manager after applying a theme on my stock rom and later i thought that to go back i should restore my nandroid backup from my twrp so i tried to do that after wiping my cache system and data from twrp i connected my otg but for that moment it wasnt showing my backup but it was showing earlier before wiping so i thought i should reboot into recovery and try again and now its just not booting into recovery or the fastboot mode. Im so pissed its just the sony and xperia logo and after that is just a black screen without any input.
Guys please help me get out of this please its the only phone i have , please.
Thanks in advance and one more if you get me out of this,.

Put a stock ftf in the C/user/your name/.flashtool/firmware folder. Open flashtool and connect your phone holding vol down as you connect to usb.. Your led should turn green meaning you are in flasmode. Once that's done, click on the flash button in flashtool, select the ftf for your phone and select flash.. Once done, install dual recovery by NUT if your ftf isn't rooted etc yet.. Reboot and your done
If you want to flash CM, your bootloader must be unlocked bro.. Also you must have access to your ext SD card as CM need to go to that to flash onto your phone through recovery using fastboot..

Thanks my phone is booted after using flashtool but i wanted to know what is better stock or cm ?
That's always a matter of taste and an unlocked bootloader.. I personally couldn't care less about the few things that stop working ie bravia engine etc once bootloader is open.. My bootloader has been open from the day I got the phone leaving me free to flash anything a vailable.. But there are others who think stock is ok.. If your bootloader is open, you have the joy of testing all the marshmallow Roms as they are pretty stable.. If you like layers check out tesla or rro.. But please don't try layers on stock Rom again..

Very big problem with my Z1 C6903

Well i have a Sony Xperia z1 c6903 with a locked bootloader and i tried to install a custom ROM this one "DstrikerZ1KaiROM_SP007".
When i finish install this rom my phone enter in a logo-bootloop and now cant enter in recovery mode so i cant install a stock rom again ( i wiped user data, cache, dalvik before install it).
I tried some methods to revive my phone and no works:
* Flash a ftf firmware "C6903_14.5.A.0.270_Customized_SG_Light.ftf" with flashtool in flash mode.
* I tried to install recovery image via fastboot "TWRP.img" with "minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.4".
* I tried to unlock my bootloader with flashtool but my phone is not able to unlock bootloader.
* Also i tried Emma software and it cant help me cause my bootloader is locked. sad history.
So i think my phone is hard-brick but in forums says if u can see sony logo, enter in flashmode, fastboot is not hard-brick is soft-brick. Well lot of guides explains how to unbrick a sof-bricked phone but all uses the recovery mode that i cant enter.
If you guys know a way to install in my phone the recovery mode again i think i can fix it. all answers will be apreciated. Thanks.
