I have seen others use this with success on other 4.4 devices and was wondering if anyone with a Moto X has tried/verified this works to get FoxFi to work.

So after you take the 4.4 update just do a factory reset then install foxfi and it works? It can't be that easy.

That's the claim I have seen in another kitkat 4.4 forum regarding foxfi. I think their device was a Nexus. I am planning on getting a moto x, but want to know if anyone with a moto x with 4.4 can confirm.
Google the following including quotes: "confirmed, Deleting or renaming /data/misc/wifi solves the problem."
It's the third link that says "Issue 62516"
no foxfi fix for kitkat
I accidentally hit install for KitKat on my ultra and despite all my efforts (including factory reset) foxfi still will not work. There is no way to roll back to jellybean as far as I've seen. I'm not rooted.

If you are rooted, just do the entitlement services hack found here:
Native Tether for Verizon 4.4

Hi, I am getting desperate here.
I have an unlocked and rooted dev edition verizon wireless moto x.
I have followed the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443562
Using that apk I cannot get wireless tether to work, can anyone help me to figure this out?
I have followed the instruction in that thread and it has never worked. Entitlements has always crashed.
I did my own thing where I left the odex in, only renamed the apk in priv-app, and then substituted in the modified apk. This worked for a month before entitlements started crashing.
I just tried the latest suggestion in the thread linked above as well and still entitlements crashes. (rename the odex and apk in priv-app, put in the modified apk, adjust the rights, copy to app, reboot).
I'm doing this all through ES explorer with root.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have Xposed installed? If so, just install the "Moto Tether" module. I did it last night on my unlocked, rooted, DE VZW Moto X, and it works great.

You sir, are a god damn GENIUS!
I still kind of wish I had been able to figure it out myself though, but I will take this win and run with it!

if you saw my latest reply, i never said that I renamed the files, which is where I think you were having the problem.
640k said:
i didn't rename the original files. maybe that's the trick?? i simply copied the new ones on top of the old ones. also, leave .odex in the priv-app folder alone. DON'T copy it to the app folder.

Thanks to both.
I did see you copied over the old files but I am not that brazen... I also didn't copy the .odex into app

Does this work for the T-mobile variant?
I have a Verizon non dev, locked bootloader, rooted phone running 4.4. Very happy with it.
Just automatically downloaded 4.4.2, but with all the horror stories i don't want to install it. Keep getting stupid reminders
Any way to get it off my phone and stop reminders?
Or any totally safe way to install it? Sounds like getting rid of xposed might do it...
Thanks!
use root explorer or the like and rename /priv-app/3c_ota.apk to 3c_ota.apk.bak

Great, I'll do that. Just curious, what am I changing?
Use Titanium backup and freeze MotorolaOTA 1.0

I also just downloaded root explorer, but couldn't find the file you mentioned. Is it in a folder?

Okay did that, great idea, thanks!
I just disabled "updater" in the app list.
Edit:
Nevermind, that only worked for the day, this morning it started trying to update again.

the app that checks for the OTA updates.
Will this work before I have gotten the update notification? I have gotten the update and frozen the app, but my wifes phone has not even gotten the update notification yet.

it should. that is the point of it.
I have the Verizon (locked bootloader) version of the Moto X, rooted on 4.4. Today, my tethering stopped working. I can enabled it on the phone with no issues, but no devices seems to be able to find it. I tried changing the SSID and password, but still no luck. Has anyone else had this issue and maybe could point me in a direction to fix it? Thanks.

I was using the Native Tether with Moto Tether for Xposed. It had been working fine up until yesterday. I tried your method, and it's working. I'm not sure why the native method just stopped working.

All I can tell you is I'm on a VZW Dev Ed with 4.4.2 and my Xposed tethering works fine. In fact I'm native tethered right now to the computer I'm typing this on.
Today came a warning from google for towelroot on my device, seems that google is picking up security...
I thought Google weren't the one having issues with rooted phones. It's more trouble for companies like Samsung, etc, since a rooted phone means a chance that the bloatware they own might be gone.

I installed Xposed, and a module that thought (knock on) I think it was not compatible, to restart the device, it gives boot loop, clean the dalvik and it starts, if I reboot again, boot loop return. Any solution? :crying: my phone is a xperia z2

You have to uninstall the module to fix it. If you're on Kitkat then I think there should be a zip in Android/data/com.somexposedstuff and somewhere in there. Idk about lollipop

You're on your bootlooped phone? If so, just disable and uninstall the module that caused the bootloop. I really don't know how to do this on lolliop. Maybe posting in Xposed General? I t would be the appropriate location for this thread.

I had only excluded files containing "Xposed" in the name with Root Explorer, but remained the files described in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58964632&postcount=2258
Made as described, restarted, he updated one last time and went back to normal. Thanks for your help. : D
No problem. Remember to uninstall the incompatible application.
