[Q] P880 4.0.3 to 4.4 How? Newbie here - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi,
I'm a complete newbie to this stuff.. I bought my LG Optimus 4x HD P880 here in the Philippines about a year ago. I still got the stock 4.0.3 ICS.
Now I heard great things about KitKat.. I wanted to try it. When I tried to search, I came across these terms that I did not understand completely..
"CWM11 ? or CM11?"
"Flashing"
"ROM"
Basically, I wanted to try this one:
CyanFox ROM
I'm not very sure though, but if anyone could link me or teach me how to get started.. really appreciate that.
thank you so much advance,
Kuodo

ohh dude, you have a lot of info to read about it.... first that all you have to flash V20 Euro Open KDZ to can unlock the bootloader, then you have to root and flash CWM recovery 6.0.4.5, then you can flash cyanfox using the recovery to do that
in this post you can find a tool to do almost everything that i talked above http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230934

You have all tutoriala you need here on xda but let me make little easyer for you.Firat plug your lg to PC install driver via lg software updater then update to 4.1.2 jb.Then root your device then unlock bootloader then download via market rom manager and install CWM.After that download rom you want and flash it.For every step i described you have detailed tutorial on xda you just need to google it.Step by step and you will make it.I think this is the moust help you will get with your question since it was 5646373829 times asked and people are sick of it.

Thanks.. ill do that..
*EDIT* I was able to upgrade to JB 4.1.2 and root it. My problem now is how to unlock bootloader. I have ESA-XXXX and that 'all in one tool' said that it only works on EUR-XXXX.. Im kinda stuck.

Okay.. I got rom manager now and downloaded CyanFox ROM and GAPPS..
If Hidden Menu says Bootloader Unlocked, that means it is unlocked right?
Because when I tried to Flash CyanFox ROM, it says 'cannot open file'
Here's what I got from report.log

Can you open the zip file on your computer? Sounds like a bad download or maybe wrong CWM version.

Also, I heard about iodak Kernel v9.5. I'm wondering if I needed to install that too? Iodak Kernel v9.5.
Thanks guys..

[Q] I got S-OFF On Incredible S, but I still need help!

Hi Guys, I got my Incredible S (IS) successfully S-OFF using the beta of AlphaRev X.
I made the donation because the work the AlphaRev X have done is great
I used the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694 to install the clockworkmod and recovery, and it was completely successful. What I did is I obtain the right Clockworkmod Recovery for my IS I have now the ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.1 on my Incredible S.
New the two problem I am facing is:
1- When I flash a language package (so that I will be able to read Arabic using the same original ROM which comes with the device) , the installing gets aborted and unsuccessful. Although, I used the same language packaged which I used it for my old Desire HD and now both are Froyo .
The message I gets on Recovery page is :
-- Installing : /sdcard/Arabic_DHD_2.2.1 _FIX_Browser_RTL. Zip
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Installing update …
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkMod 3.0 Ginger bread based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update Zip Package .
Installation aborted
Well, I don’t know that all mean and I don’t know how I would fix this. It seems so complicated
Please would any Developer out there help!
2- I tried to flash a custom ROM by LeeDrOiD_HD_V 2.2.3, but also didn’t work. The message I gets is:
-- Installing : /sdcard/LeeDrOiD_HD_V2.2.3. Zip
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Installing update …
Checking Model ID
Assert failed: getprop(“ro. product .device”) ==”

getprop(“ro.product.board”) ==”ace”
E:Error in /sdcard/ LeeDrOiD_HD_V2.2.3. Zip
(Status 7)
Installation aboard.
Please would anyone of developer help me in getting this issue fixed. I really would appreciate it the effort and the reply. All I care about is the a ROM ( cocked or custom ROM) which can read Arabic and not losing the S-OFF I have got from AlphaRev X. thank you for your time and you support! I tried to post my question through the XDA Incredible S developer sub-forums link, but it refused. Please would anyone help me! Thanks for reading my email.

I believe I got it already rooted and installed recovery for the IS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694 (Root and Recovery) but still working on the flashing Arabic thing. would you please tell me how I would check whether I have already permanent root in my device or not? Because it seems I do have but I need to check to make sure I did. For root thing I followed the instruction in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694 (Root and Recovery) and Installed the “su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip” file and it was successful.

To root:
Copy su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip to your sdcard root
Start clockworkmod recovery (instructions below)
Select "install zip from sdcard"
Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Then select "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip"

That's right...
Right. Also recovery too. Don't try it unless neccesary. It requires great effort to get the things back to position.
If you read carefully it says that it cannot flash because you are trying to flash desire hd roms... go over to the inc s dev section and pick one there.
Desire HD roms will not work on the incs.
However you can try and edit the update script that it reads vivo instead of ace.
Im not responsible for failure hh

[Q] Root gingerbread 2.3.4 v20i

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392
. And search before you post

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

fine ^^
flash kdz via kdz flash tool (tutorial is on sticky in general), root, install rom manager, install latest cwm, download cm and install it from cwm.
Possible solution
I was getting the same error while trying to install CM and I tried this (Used google), that worked for me.
You do this with 7-Zip/WinRAR
Note: DO NOT EXTRACT ROM!
In the ROM go to:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
1)Open updater-script with a script editor such as notepad/notepad++ (makes things 10x easier), or gedit if you use linux
2)Delete the first line of code (all the way up to the first semicolon you see) and delete the first semi-colon as well
Do not go past the first semicolon when deleteing and DO NOT forget to delete the first semicolon.
Cheers!
Now please stop posting this problem on everyone's ICS ROMs.....
Someone make this a sticky please
Bootloader flash dosnt work on ics.. You have to flash first the v20a again.. then bootloader unlock like the explanations here on generaly section.. Then flash the bootloader at fastboot or u install the rommanager app from playstore and let the app this work do.
Sorry for por english

[Q] Need some help

Hey, im a newbie here in the forum, but i got some knowledge in the android world
I have a Lg Optimus 2X rooted on 4.0.4, and im a little confused about some things...
i want to install ClockwordMod, but i dont know how... i open rom manager 5.5 and i find my device on the list (lg p990) i fond it and then i downloaded the CWM but when it reaches 100% it looks like nothing gets installed :s i dont know what is happening. i found another ways to do this (running .bat files on my pc, but it doesn't work either) you guys have a clue why is this happening?
i want to install cyanogenmod 10.1, and i know i need CWM... but in their website they say: You must use the Gingerbread bootloader and partition layout in order to use CyanogenMod. The ICS firmware is NOT compatible.
my question is: i have lg original 4.0.4, this means i have to downgrade right? i have to downgrade maybe to 2.3 right? ^
(by the way sorry about my english, im from portugal )
thanks to all

Error message when trying to update with LG Updater

Hi everyone!
First of all, sorry if this as been asked, tonight my Google skills didn't help me find an answer.
A friend of mine owns a LG Optimus 2X (P990) bought from Fido in Canada. Currently she's on Gingerbread and would like to update to ICS (which is the latest stock rom available from what I read)
She wouldn't get the software update OTA so she tried downloading the LG Updater software from LG directly. The software detects the phone and says an update is available.
At some point, a popup appear suggesting to make a backup. So far, everything is fine. Once the backup is done and she click the "Start upgrade" button, she gets this error message : "An Unsupported operation has been attempted"
Anyone ever seen this before? Is there a way to upgrade her phone without using the LG software?
Since it's not my own phone, I would prefer not rooting it.
If rooting is really the only solution? What would be a good guide to read to do the update? (I did read a few sticky posts... 1 is the all in one tool kit... it explains each feature, but is not really a guide and I still have some questions unanswered after reading it. The other guide I read, the download links are broken)
Thank you

Alright, that didn't help at all.
First of all, I wanted to flash a stock ROM... the guide tells us to install CWM and we got stuck at the part where we have to flash the ROM because it would seem CWM won't take the KDZ (or bin/fls) files.
Now we can go to the SW Upgrade mode without the battery, but the smartflash utility time out after 3 minutes and end on an error.
We can also go to CWM with the battery... but with no apparent way to flash a stock rom.
We're stuck at the moment.
Edit : So in the end we flashed only the BIN file instead of both BIN and FLS. No more errors and the phone rebooted correctly under ICS! Yay!
