Data 3G setup not working... help - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

APN is properly entered as per fido, using apn : Fido-core-appl1.apn and leave everything else blank.
Also tried apn internet.fido.ca, rebooting the phone, with no luck.
The 3G icon is showing alternating with H+. but when i try to access a website, it does not work. No data is transfered.
Called them and they said that everything is okay on their side, it’s probably a problem with my phone itself. And since they do not carry the z1, they do not provide support on the phone....
anyone know what might be the problem?
phone is taiwanese version c6902 running stock 4.3

C6902/3 run different bands than Canadian C6906 and I saw people complain about the signal switching between 3g and H+ and have a low transfer data. Even if you set up well your phone still the probability of not having a good transfer rate. Your Carrier should definitely send you a sms with the right settings for your phone, if they don't do that it's a problem.
BTW are you using the right phone for your zone?

the problem is that i’m not getting any data transfer at all even though the 3g\h+ icons are present. ...
what do you mean by using the right phone for my zone? if you mean the bands, the c6902 is compatible with north america bands no problem.

This happen when settings are not right. The phone see the bands but he can't access to them. I don't know in which position are you but I will considering 2 things, Factory Reset and if this not help flash again a FTF or even a different Generic Unbranded one.

If your phone is unlocked then try another sim, or try your sim in another phone, if not then request another sim from your provider.
Check that all settings are ok in the phone, so take out the sim and give it a wipe, put the sim in the phone and the phone will reboot, try restore defaults in apn and it should show your network, choose it and that should be it.
Try knocking 4g off and go with 2g / 3g or GSM / WCDMA whatever it might be.
Or could be the radio that's installed from the rom / FTF that you have installed, try to go with one from your carrier, if youre not carrier restricted then i'm really not sure.

tried factory reset, still same results....
what is the ftf thing you guys are talking about?
by the way i havent flashed or unlocked anything, the phone is stock unlocked from manufacturer. I’m located in canada on fido network and the phone was bought in taiwan from senao.

have you tried to ask the phone to install the internet settings? you should receive the setting as SMS or whatever, but sometimes you don't and you better ask the phone to install it instead of doing it manually.
you can do this by going to settings> under wireless & network choose more>internet settings
the phone will then download the settings and you are good to go

You bought a phone from Taiwan so basically it was not made for Canada, the bands phone are compatible but the OS can be the reason.
So what we try to tell you to update your phone, but like I see for your phone there are not to many .290 FTF http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191 like you can see and the FTF are not for CA. So try to update using the .257 Commercial/Journalist or .290 IN. Can solve the problem but no guarantee, you phone will still working like before anyway.

Ok, so you should be fine, then you have to contact your provider and ask, make a complain or you just should find the settings for Z1 in Canada for your provider. Keep trying.
Did you make a Factory Reset?.. just in case to be sure.

you need to try it again and again until it downloads it. I had this issue in the past where it failed to download but after couple of tries it succeed. try to download it from different part of your city (i.e. work, while shopping ...etc) because it needs strong signal to be able to succeed. BTW, wifi has nothing to do with this, it connects to your network and downloads the settings.

Oh I'm also on fido using a Z1 and this is the setting that I use>
Name: Fido Lte
APN:ltemobile.apn
proxy:not set
port: not set
username: not set
password: not set
server: not set
mmsc: http : // mms . fido . ca

mcc: 302
mnc: 370

APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN enabled/disabled: apn enabled

try that it works for me. I get LTE and can tether to my laptop the only thing that not's working for me is the mms and that happened after the recent update for some reason. But that should work for everything else if you don't mind not getting mms. Tell me if that works! ah for mmsc try that without the spaces. It was being recognized as a site >.<

No 3G Network with I9000XWJG5

Hey,
i flashed the I9000XWJG5 Firmware and now i do not get 3g to work. I used an o2 UK Sim and do net get a data connection (before it was always 3g) and no 3g connection with orange too, just gprs.
Has anyone an idea, what i can do?
--- update ---
also only o2 uk sim is edge where before was 3g.
Made a test with my htc hero (Villainrom 12), same place, same sim card and i got 3g.
and 'only 2g' is NOT activated on the samsung galaxy s
You need to configure your mobile operators' APNs.
it is configured properly. so settings are correct. i am not the only one with the problem. i read it on various threads but couldnt find a post with the solution so far.

You're holding it... wait, no, just manually re-enter the APN settings, because flashing firmware will wipe them out. also try factory reset, if that won't help.
3g will popup immediately when you have put in the correct APN settings. Trust me.

As i said with an htc hero, same settings, it works, with the samsung galaxy it doesnt. so i can assume that the settings are correct
htc hero = 3g
samsung galaxy s = 2g
Could it be you are roaming (you see an R with the reception bars). By default it will not use 3G when roaming. You can turn it on in settings. I have a Dutch Telfort sim and KPN took over Telfort. So i am on the KPN network now and my phone always thinks i am roaming.

Flashed another Code(CODE_I9000XWJFF) and radio(MODEM_I9000XXJF8.tar) and 3g worked again.
then tried just flash the code (CODE_I9000XWJG5) and it still works. so i guess the radio (MODEM_I9000XXJG1) does not work for my samsung galaxy s properly
when i look now in the settings of 'about phone' i see
baseband version I9000XXJF8 and
Build Number ECLAIR.XWJG5
Does anyone think i will have a problem with that combination?

Lost Data Connection!

3G and H are appearing but nothings happening, no activity. This is after a data\cache wipe. Any fix or do I need to flash again?

It's set to orange internet, network provider is set to orange.
dial *#*2263* and make sure all the bands are selected (go under combi bands and select them all). Other than that, not sure.
That's not doing anything on my phone, you sure that works with froyo?
Nevermind, tried sgs tool, all are selected... Still not working..

Get the exact APN name from Orange and make sure it's set for internet.
Sometimes, telcos have multiple APN settings.

What he said. Sorry I got the code wrong, I was going from memory. Failing that (apn check), you may have to reflash, but I'd see if you can get some insight from someone a little more experienced than me
maybe he updated to froyo and lost his imei
Don't understand why but it appears to be working now, I also tried it this morning with no luck maybe it's due to location, but it was working fine before...
Very strange, will try later today and see if it's still working.
Shortly after getting home, got no service message, after reconnecting to network the 3G connection is dead again.
I'll reflash later, this isnt right..
Exactly the same after being flashed and reseting everything to defaults, this is great.
Last time I touch clockwork recovery.
Can't even make any calls now , either the sim cards messed up or the phone is...
I'm starting to hate this phone.

[Q] Bought used phone, no signal / poor reception

Hi all,
I have a question to those more knowledgeable about GSM network/settings (I come from a CDMA background). I bought my girlfriend a Captivate on EBay for Christmas; everything is working OK except it cannot get any signal. As far as I know everything is set up as it should, it just won't show any bars. While using the ServiceMode app [*#0011#] it goes from NO SERVICE to GSM : LIMITED and back over and over. While using her old phone in the same spot it has full bars. We went to the ATT store and made sure everything was set up on their end. I think the phone is defective but I figured I would check here first. I'll attach some relevant (I think) screen caps and if anything jumps out or you have anything for me to try and fix this, please let me know.
edit/
Also does anyone know the exact location of the internal antenna? I opened the phone up to see if something came lose during shipment or whatever and I didn't really get anywhere. I wanted to try and jury rig a extended antenna to see if that helped reception.
You flashed that ROM/theme on the phone? Or it came like that when you bought it?
That is Serendipity 5.1.. I figure while she can't use the phone as a phone, she should still benefit from a nice rom and kernel. When I received the phone originally it had the stock rom. Before I flashed a custom I made sure to check everything out first and the problem was there since the beginning. Since then I've flashed back to stock, tried different radios, etc etc but the results are always the same.
I don't know what the person before me did to the phone though, maybe he/she flashed something incorrectly and wrote over important settings? I don't know what I'm looking at that's really why I am asking here.
Grabbed some more settings, anything seem strange or wrong?
Stupid question, but do you have an active AT&T Sim card in the Phone? btw, these phones absolutely, positively will not work on Sprint or any other CDMA carrier.

Yes I have her new Sim card which was activated at the store over the weekend. I can switch it between her two phones, old one full bars, Captivate no bars.
Check you APN Settings. Menu> Wireless and networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names and let us know what they are, and we can go from there.
Says ATT WAP
Tap where is says att wap and check the settings to see if they match these:
Name: ATT WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username:not set
Password:not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
mms port - 80
mcc 310
mnc 410
authentication type - none
apn type- internet + mms
If not, adjust them accordingly and see if it clears up. If not I'd say you have a serious hardware problem.
Those settings look good to me. Thanks for the help I suppose my problem is more serious. Anyone know of anything else I can check to maybe narrow my problem down? I'm not afraid to try and replace a radio/circuit board/internal antenna.
enter *#2263# and check that band selection is set to automatic.
Yep set to AUTOMATIC - Select GSM & WCDMA All Bands
Is there something equivalent to a PRL for GSM phones? Something that tells it what towers it can connect to?
idk if its related but i have poor signal problems too with my phone sometimes only shows bars and no h or edge and sometimes just says no service or emergency calls only
Yeah same here, right now it says Emergency calls only. I know for a fact that there are at least 6 GSM cell towers in this vicinity.
Can this issue have something to do with a failed unlocking attempt? I've been trying to research all routes and I tried to "unlock" to phone by using SGS Unlock Tool (rooted method), it was never successful. It states "Sorry, no codes found unknown error", possibly meaning that something internally is screwed up? I'm just pulling stuff out of my bum at this point. Any help will be appreciated!
Last bump for the weekend. Any suggestions? Already bought a new one but I still have 30 days to return it if I can figure out how to fix this.

[Q] AT&T, unlocked, no mobile data in Europe?

Hi. I live in Europe, I was jealous of you guys, so I ordered Moto on ebay. To save some cash, I ordered locked AT&T version. Everything went great, I was able to unlock the phone, it accepted the sim card, I can make calls and send SMS. So far, so good.
Then I turned on mobile data. And...nothing happend.
To clarify: Using the same sim card, I was able to use mobile data on good old Samsung i9000, so the data is activated. It's there and should work.
So I started looking around in settings, tried turning on the data roaming and looked into the "about phone" section.
Here's what it says:
Mobile Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
Is there something I need to do to "force" the connection, or should I rather discuss this with my mobile network provider?
Thanks for any help
P.S. I tried the usual stuff like reboot and eject sim and put it back, I even switched from ART back to Dalvik, The phone is running latest avaliable KitKat and is not rooted.

You didn't mention whether you checked the APN settings. My guess is that because you purchased a locked AT&T device and then unlocked it, you don't have an APN setup for your European provider. APN will be in Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks ->Access Point Names. If you go in there and either there is nothing listed or it's not the APN your mobile provider recommends, you will need to manually create the proper APN. I'm sure a quick Google Search for your provider's APN settings on Android will get you the answer.

Interesting thing is that on that old Samsung, I tried new ROM every month or so and never had this problem. The phone just "knew" what to do. Guess these are the perks of unlocked devices, right?

Glad that worked. Correct, Custom ROM's often self-provision based on a database of Carrier/APN's.

Android 5.1.1. Update Disables Mobile Data (D5803)

Hello,
I recently updated my Z3 compact (D5803) to android 5.1.1. on the T-Mobile network here in NYC. Ever since then, I frequently lose the ability to do anything data-based with the phone. No web browing, no chatting on whatsapp. I can still make phone calls and send/receive SMS, however. The data functionality returns when on WiFi, but goes away once I switch back to LTE. In order for me to get data on LTE, I have to manually download the internet settings for my provider to my phone (this is located under the Settings menu in android). Even then, it only lasts for several minutes before the data connection is lost. T-Mobile was unable to fix the problem, and changing the SIM card didn't resolve the issue.
Anyone else experience this?
Yes, many others have the same problem, see various posts in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/discussion-5-1-1-stock-released-post-t3162309
Currently, the best workaround seems to be to disable and re-enable mobile data, or to go to airplane mode and back again. That solves the issue until you drop LTE connection the next time, then you will have to re-iterate.

Yes I am having the exact same problem since updating to 5.1.1. As the other reply says turning airplane mode off then on is the quickest way to get connectivity back (swipe down twice from the top for quick access). This is terribly frustrating though, it only lasts for a few minutes. I can't believe they pushed the update with this issue!

My phone had this issue after the over the air update. I reset the phone to factory, wiped all data. Two days on, now, and no more problems with this.
Same problem. I tried factory reset out of desperation, but it didn't work.
Love this phone, but very discouraged by this bug.

As posted in the other thread, there is now a fix/workaround:
From reddit user FishStik5: Going into the APN settings and changing the APN protocol to iPv4 only (it was iPv6 before) seems to fix the problem.
How to find the setting: Settings-> Wirelessa and Network / more -> Mobile networks -> APN -> T-mobile data -> APN protocol -> Set to IPv4.

this is a bug on 5.1.1 sony need to fix it
Any news with this issue?
No problem here with LTE on the CM 12.1 Cyanogenmod flavor of 5.1.1 on T-mobile (that I've noticed at least). But I think CM 12.1 may handle the APN settings differently (mine is set to T-Mobile LTE ipV4) from the stock ROM or it could be something Sony messed up from the AOSP code. I'm NOT suggesting anyone try a CM ROM as a solution as there are lots of downsides to unlocking your phone and flashing any non-stock ROM. But the problem does seem to be specific to the Sony ROM and not 5.1.1 in general.
I also have this problem after the update to 5.1.1 in the Netherlands. The first problem was that the update changed some mobile data settings, so I downloaded the settings from my provider. Unfortunately those settings were also incorrect as I had to manually remove the APN's Proxy and Port (they were set, be needed to be 'not set'/empty). This improved the connection a bit, but it still looses the mobile data at certain places (where the coverage is good). Did a factory reset as the Sony helpdesk suggested. For a few days this seemed to help, but again the same issue came up. The suggested solution mentioned in this thread did not work as those settings are already applied.
I have a profider (Telfort) which uses another provider's network (KPN's). So after the update I also see a annoying R in the signal icon, where in the previous version it always showed H+, H, 3G.
Does anyone know if this is resolved in the new update?
After the last update and a new reconfiguracion on the APN now work correct for me.
