WiFi problem - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so I'm having a WiFi problem. We just got the Comcast arris modem/router combo, which I know isn't the best, but it was parents choice.. so I'm stuck. I get very slow WiFi speeds , .5 -4 mbps depending on closeness to router. My family and friends with other phones such as iPhones and galaxy phones are getting around 20mbps down. Things I have tried are - flashing WiFistock.zip fix, restarting router, changing channel on router, changing secruity type, disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting phone, I'm nof sure what else I can try.. I can't stream HD Video anymore and I used to watch a lot of it.. any idea and help would be appreciated , thanks in advance !

Have you tried disabling Wifi Battery Optimization in the advanced settings of your phone?

I have been.. but I use it a lot away from home where I don't have WiFi , and I have 3gb of data only, so it can be a problem.

Yes, it doesn't give me any faster speeds, but thanks for the tip

Could just be an upright router-phone problem. Phone gets full true speeds in other router coonnections. Don't see how my router could be working for others but not my HTC one.. maybe I'll just have to live with it

I don't know if this helps, but try setting your modem to b/g/n mixed rather than N only (or if its set on b/g/n, change it to N only).
I had problems with wifi and mixed modes solved them.

Will try, thanks for the tip!

Change the DSN to global and try.

Still, the problem persists. I have done as much as I can think of. Maybe I'll call Comcast and ask for a software update if it's available, not sure what else to do.

Anyone else having major issues with wi-fi connectivity?

Just purchased the Atrix HD yesterday and when standing only 10 feet away from my router it constantly connects and disconnects. So far this has been the only issue for me. Any hacks yet for better wi-fi strength?

I had same problem. The wifi turns off 2 seconds after I turn the wifi on. I did factory reset. After the reset, it seems it solve the problem but I had other issues so I did an exchange since it was with in 14 days of the purchase. I don't have that problem with the new HD.
Try doing factory reset....

I'm having the exact same problem. Mine will connect for a period of time then just starts a wifi boot loop, as I would describe it. It tries to connect endlessly and won't unless I'm right next to the router. A factory reset didn't fix it either.

I never accepted the at&t wifi app agreement, so it was never running, but still had the same issue. It seems better now that its forced to 2.4ghz. I still have range issues. my Atrix 4G would show two bars of signal where the Atrix HD connects and disconnects constantly. Its like i have to be sitting right in front of the router to stay connected.

Wow, that's cool. Didn't move, switched to 2.4 only and my signal strength doubled and my speed seems noticeably better.
Now if this helps from oovoo and Skype constantly disconnecting life will be good. To be fair the inspire is also disconnecting at random too.
I had this problem as well - it dropped if my wi-fi was 2 bars or so, and it seemed to fluctuate. Tried the 2.4 only mode and it seemed to help a little, but I still lost connection frequently at only 2 bars. It would drop and look like wi-fi restarted and then connect again at 3 bars.

This seems to be highest on my kernel wakelocks. I searched Google and found out that modifying my wifi network and making it static should do the trick but it didn't work. Anyone else suffering from this problem?

Problem is that the router maybe sending out packets to check on what all devices are still connected and this will vary from router to router and further down to their specific settings ...
It has started happening on my home router but office one is just fine ... so I am going to do some experiments on the home one to find the culprit settings ... its Netgear btw

Actually I have a problem with mine dropping WiFi all together. I know it is working because my husband's iPhone stays connected and it still works when mine has dropped. Lost 4 calls today because of that problem. Tried tinkering with the WiFi setting on the One between 2.5 ghz and 5 ghz and auto. Makes no difference. Connection lasts maybe 5 or 10 minutes then it disconnects. If you have a solution let me know.

Have you tried looking to see if your phone is actually saving the password? It is saved in the following location;
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Open this file up using a file explorer with root capabilities. Is your network SSID and password in there?

Is turn off WiFi and turn it back in again. Then it works for five minutes or so. And I looked at the link that was provided above and made sure I had WiFi on always power saver off etc. See what it does tonight.

Sorry, my response was directed towards the OP. Should have made that clearer.
Sometimes dropped connections with android phones comes from having your router set to 'auto' for channel selection. If yours is this setting, try changing it to a fixed channel. Use the app Wi-Fi Analyzer to find a clear channel.

Well I contacted HTC, and I did the steps ad posted above and so far no problem. Of course it will probably happen after I post this knock on wood. Didn't have to do what HTC said below since it works now but will definitely do it if the problem persists. I also uninstalled a battery widget because one of the posts said to try that also.
We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the Wi-Fi connection on your HTC One and can certainly provide some assistance to help resolve the issue.
To start, we will need to check a setting on the device. From the Home screen, access Settings>Wi-Fi>Menu>Advanced. Make sure the DLNA Auto-IP is disabled. Also, I know you have also changed it prior but set the Wi-Fi frequency band to 2.4 GHz. We will need test the combination to see if there is any difference.
If needed, we will need to make sure there is not an issue with the phone trying to get through your network’s security. For this, we will first need to remove the network from the phone. Access Settings>Wi-Fi then tap and hold on the name of the network to select Forget Network. Once done, reboot the phone and temporarily remove the security from the network. It should be open with no password and the SSID being broadcast. This is only temporary so we can test the phone to see if the same thing continues with an unsecured network. Once this is tested, you can add the security back to the network.
We would also recommend testing the phone with other public networks to see if you still having issues with the connection.
Feel free to reply should you have any further questions, Christina. If you feel more comfortable discussing issues by phone, you can contact Technical Support at 1-866-449-8358, 8 am to 1 am ET, 7 days a week.

Having the same issue with the wifi. Connection is erratic even if I am in the same room as the router/superhub. I went to the store today and they tested it there as well. They uninstalled some power saving apps and it seemed to work ok but at home same issues. Loosing connection when surfing and if I leave the room no connection at all.
Will have to get back to the store tomorrow to get it replaced.

As far as using an international ROM, yes I am....was using Trickdroid, but now I'm trying out AndroidRevolution 8.0...same issue. Next time I flash another Rom, I'll try the international setting instead of the ATT setting. Wouldn't I have to change the APN if I did that, or does that setting adjust something else?

Nah I didn't have to change anything. I get average 15-25 meg lte speed. A lot of guys were having the WiFi passwords reset on boot with the att package checked in aroma. From what I've seen the only difference with international & att is the signal icons. I had to switch because WiFi tether wasn't working under att.

Day two and WiFi still going good! Have no clue why it was doing it the first day I did it. Just turned power saver off. WiFi on during sleep always. Removed my battery widget. Rebooted phone, no problems since.

I sometimes have the same wifi problem. I think I have to wait untill there is a software fix.
UPDATE: I bought a new router (<with wifi support 2G and 5G) and all my problems are solved.

WiFi speed is slower after sleep.

Ok, so have noticed this using the speedtest.net app.
When the phone is brought out of stand by / sleep, my download speed is 3 meg, which is slow , if I turn Wi-Fi off and back on, and redo speed test, I get my full speed of 60-70 meg.
I have tested to see if turning the power savers off make a difference, and have checked that keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is on. Nothing seems to make a difference.
Any comments. ??

I don't use wifi that much so I can't say I've noticed. I have noticed however, when my phone's been asleep, I often have issues with mobile data not being on ... It is fine for large periods of time when I'm using my phone more regular but if I leave it for a while it usually says "Turning On" in settings and often never changes until I tuen it off and let it settle lol.

I don't expect that it is region related. Maybe nobody checks the data speed with speedtest.net....
Is there another app to test your data speed because maybe it is related to speedtest.net?

Tested it with another speed test app and the results are the same.... So it is related to the device itself...
Yep I have also tested with another, and its the same .

Definitely a problem.

Well, today I did a phone reset...this appears to have resolved the problem.

Bugger...
It appears the problem is still there.!
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue with a HTC One bought through Dial-a-phone and on the O2 network. I sent my first HTC One back
for a replacement, but the replacement has the same problem, so it's not a fault with the handset hardware per-se, more likely
the wifi chipset or firmware.
I have also found that the wifi does not automatically switch between access points on the same SSID, i.e while walking
through a building - it just hangs on to the on it associated with first and won't switch to a better AP even if you're standing
right underneath it. Very irritating. I have found the app 'WiFi Fixer' to be of some use in reconnecting. That also seems to
act the same as turning the wifi on and off, so avoiding the low speed issue.
Interestingly, in my testing, while the speed test app has been showing the downstream limited to 2mit, transfers back and forth
to my local NAS have been fast. It's almost as if the 2mbit 'cap' only applies to traffic going through the default gateway (usually
a home router or the like) but the problem manifests on corporate LANs too with sophisticated Cisco equipment, so you can't really
blame the LAN.
I've logged a ticket with HTC which was allegedly 'escalated' but I'm not that hopeful of a positive outcome!

[Q] Weird Wi-fi issue

I love this phone but have one strange concern, I've noticed that it likes to say my Wi fi is unstable yet I know it's perfectly stable has anybody seen this or experience it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes. I have similar problems with my wifi if I have it attached to my 5GHz wireless network that I know works fine.
It is particularly bad if the router is in N+AC mode.
Once I switched onto a 2.4GHz wireless network I haven't had the problem since.
For whatever reason my note 3 wifi has been really flaky on 5GHz.
I brought this up in the stupid questions thread a few days ago.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I got this error a lot the first couple of days. I played with the wifi settings a lot, and it seems to have "settled" down.
I was getting "unstable" error sitting feet away from my router. However, I just walked around 200 feet away from wifi at work and noticed it was still connected.
Edit:spoke too soon. Doing the same thing now.

the weird thing is is that it never loses the connection and my wifi speeds stay consistent at 64mbps
I get it a lot... I tried it with my 5g and it happens once or twice a day. The 2.4 ghz is even worse it happens about 7-10 times a day. I used my MiFi and it was 3 ft from my phone and it did it as well. Not sure the cause.. I have auto switch and Bluetooth off

If you disable this, it will stop prompting you about that and will also stay connected to not so great WiFi (if you have crappy WiFi).
All wifi has unstable times. What ahent929 said to do is correct.
This phone is designed to detect a drop in the signal. That's why it says it's unstable. Even if you have the absolute best router in the world, keep in mind the other radio frequencies that are passing through yours as well vis a vis.

Hum interesting. I have been having this issue as well at home. I will try the above suggestion to see if it helps. Thanks.

It should more than help, it should correct it for good and not pop up anymore about unstable anything.
