Hi folks,
I am well aware of the threads out there about how no one was able to root the at&t kitkat 4.4.2 Moto x phone. But my problem is a bit different (though rooting would be a solution). The summary is that I have a code from at&t to unlock my phone but the code doesn't work anymore because I supposedly surpassed the number of tries limit (though there is no visual indication on the phone of that). At least, after talking multiple times to at&t and Motorola, that is the story they told me. Its amazing how neither at&t nor Motorola support people know exactly how many chances I have (something around 5 apparently) and how there is now warning on the phone about that. At&t said they could solve my problem if I was within a reach of an at&t antenna, but I am obviously not even near that (I am in Brazil right now...).
Here is how it happened: I essentially was not aware that my phone was network locked (I never had to deal with that before as I always bought devices full price that came unlocked). I did get the Moto X full price and I am now traveling in Brazil for a month and, as I've done before, I got a local sim card. When I did put the card in, I thought the code that was being asked of me was the simcard code (the UX does freaking say SIM network unlock code!!!), after failing a couple of times, I tried combinations of puk code and simcard code only to then realize that what I needed was the at&T unlock code (but apparently I had already messed around too much by then). I went through the process to get it, but now their code still doesn't work.
So the question is: Is there a way to reset this limit without rooting the phone? I tried doing the data factory reset, and I also tried flashing it back to stock firmware, none seemed to have any effect.
Any suggestions? Does anyone even know how this limit on the network lock works?

If you haven't already tried, you MIGHT be able to reset the counter by erasing the Modemst1 and modemst2 partitions. To try, you will need the android SDK and 'mfastboot' binary.
You'll boot the phone into bootloader mode, and type:
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
Now reboot. Let us know if the counter has reset.
If that doesn't work, I'm not sure rooting will be able to do anything for you either...

That doesn't work. What really annoys me is the lack of any indication on the phone about the limit or the state you are in. Hopefully at&t can fix this issue once I am back in the US.
did you solved?

Did you found a solution ?
Did you found a solution? I'm in the same situation with a friends device now as well. Why people keep dicking around with the device without common sense or an idea of that they're doing is beyond me. I had a similar situation with a Nokia C6-01 a few years back. After some time I managed to find a utility to run on my laptop that cleared the counter on the phone. Then the code could be manually entered using Nokia's unique unlocking process and I got it unlocked.
I've got 5 different unlocking devices and solutions and none of them are any use with this phone.

Hey all. Very annoying problem (one of many really) here with my xperia sp. I want to change network providers and got my unlock code no problem from my current carrier, no issue there. However when I put in the unlock code I'm told network unlock unsuccessful. I've attempted it twice as I don't want to risk making things worse. I've tried to check the service menu to see if the counter still has attempts but I can't access that either using *#*#7378423#*#*. The code disappears but nothing happens. I'm using paranoid nexus android version 4.4 and I've a locked bootloader if that makes any difference. I did buy the phone second hand so I realise the person before me could've used up all the attempts but it was only about a month old at the time and the person was on the same network as I am (I got the receipt when I bought it off them). Just wondering if anyone has any idea how I could possibly unlock the phone by whatever means or even get a look at my service menu??
My network is Meteor in Ireland if that makes any difference.

I think it's possible that you have to be on stock rom to unlock your device.
And service menu is not accessible in costum roms. Possible that it could be installed, I don't know.
Do the following steps:
1. Make a nandroid backup.
2. Go back to stock rom using the tool "Emma".
3. Do your unlock stuff.
4. Root and install recovery (get the same recovery as you use now!)
5. Go back to your current configuration by restoring your backup.
If you haven't used up all your attempts and your old carrier has given you the correct code, this will surely work!
If you have any further problems with unlocking, reply to this thread by quoting me! That way I'll get a notification. It's better to ask and wait before you've used up all your attempts

I had gotten a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 off ebay (refurbished), and I'm not a US resident. The phone and network worked perfectly fome until today, two days after the nougat update, the phone automatically restarted and said that my device is network locked and it can be unlocked using the Device Unlock app. Now when i opened the device unlock app it stated that my device is not elegible for unlock. What should i do now? There is no chance of me going to US or any way tgrough which i can send this phone back to US. Is there ANY possible way in which this can be unlocked? Additionally, the IMEI has changed I guess, the IMEI on the back is different from the one in the *#06# menu. Is there any way to restore the network on this phone or am i stuck with a $250 brick?
Same thing happened to me. I know the person who I bought it from, she has called tmobile and requested another unlock to be sent to the phone, aftet 48 hours they just sent an email saying the device can only be unlocked through the app. Have you found any resolution? I'm thinking we'll have to downgrade the software somehow.

First check your IMEI if its changed you'll have to get it fixed by Z3X box, I got my phone fixed through Z3X box, you can't fix it yourself, and after the repair I had to stay on Marshmallow as the latest update at that time (a month ago) didn't support Nougat. Only unlocking the phone won't fix your issue, it'll keep showing (Searching) in the network name.
Back in the day I had a few Google Nexus 6 phones. I had a spare 64GB one sitting here that I had let my ex-girlfriend use at some point when she broke her Samsung S5 or S6.
She used my N6 for about 5 months and finally got a new S8. The thing has sat in a box ever since.
I pulled it out the other day and decided to pick up another SIM from my carrier so my 9-year-old could have a phone to play with. I changed the thing up and realized it still had the ROM on it from when my ex-GF used as it still had a PIN code set so I booted in TWRP and full wiped it and installed the newest Nitrogen OS Pie.
So I start the setup process, I get to the WIFI part and put in my WIFI and now I'm sitting at a screen that wants me to input a pin code OR use the email associated with the phone. I tried my email and that is NOT it. It must have locked to her email.
Unfortunately, we no longer speak so asking for her help is not an option.
I Googled FRP unlock but none of them have worked so far.
Any thoughts?
Would any older ROMS allow me to get around it and "start over"?
I've been in contact with Sprint several times with no resolution. I have been a sprint customer for 20 years, and never seen anything like this. been in contact with Sprint several times with no resolution. I have been a sprint customer for 20 years, and never seen anything like this.
Here is what I know...
- Both my current phone and my new to me Galaxy S8 are verified as paid off by Sprint.
- I am in regular contact with the previous owner of the phone who has been more than amazing through this miserable process.
He had an FRP issue when he tried to sell the phone the first time.
Samsung claims they have a process to remove FRP, so he sent it to them.
When I received the phone is was all wrapped like a brand new phone and Samsung certified that the phone was good to go. I contacted Samsung for help with getting the phone up and running, and got through the process perfectly...maybe a minute later the "This Phone Is On A Lease" warning pops up asking me for a password to clear it, and keeps popping up and won't go away, worse yet, it's keeping me from accessing WIFI! Ive researched this and see no solution but i cant root or flash cause the bootloader is locked! Help! I saw an article claiming it was just done tho but cant find much info as to exactly how.
Here is my info:
SM-G960U
IMEI 353306091813281
Baseband G960USQU5CSF3
build PPR1.180610.G690USQU5CSF3
Unfortunately.....
After looking into this on the sprint side of things; i can assure you that phone is NOT paid off and is still the property of sprint.
If there is a way to disable the lease lock application i dont know it, I'm sorry cant really help more than that...best of luck...
...also, if you pm me if you do find away around that lease lock? It'd be a useful thing to know
