Recovery question - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I restore a rom with a different kernel will I need to flash kernel.elf? I'm a little confused about how Xperia kernels actually work, a full explanation would be nice

Nevermind, realised you can just restore normally, mods delete please

How to change kernel, without changing ROM,

Guys please suggest me on how to change the kernel without changing ROM, the only reason is to get a better battery back up
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA
Just flash it via cwm, it will not affect your current settings... If you don`t have, you must root your phone and install cwm recovery, download your desired kernel and flash it...
And read a little bit in development section, it`s all there...
Yup, flashing a kernel will not change your ROM.
Press thanks to helpful answers!
Thanks bro

Noob question , need help

If i follow this steps is there any chance to brick my phone?
I want to install paranoid android build 5 .
1. Make a backup
2. Clear cache
3.Clear davlik
4.Format /system
5.Install zip from sdcard
I want to install this custom rom only if there are 100% no chances to brick my phone

There isn't 100 percent change to have succeed. Anyway LG is hard to brick. I successfully changed my rom but after 2 weeks it got huge problems nd cannot mount partition.
After clearance by NVflash all problems gone.
If you aren't coming from PA rom, and wipe data petition also.

I have stock rom v20s

Then you need to do a full wipe.

I understand your hesitance I felt the same way.. untilled I successfully did it.. first one I tried was cm7 official build used the same steps u list but got a boot loop (this is not a brick as u can still access recovery) .. anyway I had to nvflash the rom and it worked and I now change Tom's all the time just to test and mess about with .. its easy and there is plenty of support available ... good luck

Gapps are flashed after the rom without a full wipe in between.

[Q]Is Zaiben Rom working on other version of stock

As the title says, Im on 20HK want to flash Zaiben Rom is this compatible aside from 20a?
Sent from my LG-P880 using Tapatalk 2
It replaces the system files so yes, make sure you format /system as well as data or some apps force close. Only thing it doesn't change is the baseband, its still HKG on mine

Don't you have the T-Mobile US branded variant of the Z (C6606)? If so, you cannot flash any custom kernel as your bootloader cannot be unlocked. (I know your signature says C6603, but the model number changes if you flash an unbranded rom).
To check for yourself if your bootloader can be unlocked, enter *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialler, then look in Service info, Configuration.

So does that mean I can't install roms either?? I can boot into recovery and all that
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
You can flash stock based roms only. Anything that requires a custom kernel (CM/AOSP/AOKP/PAC etc) are not able to be flashed on a locked bootloader.
