New to Z1 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI All.
Been a Galaxy S2 user for ages, and took the change to go to Z1 experia.
Now looking to root and om the phone.
I had done this on the GS2 for ages, and knew the process well.
How different is the rooting process on the Z1?
How do we install roms on the Z1, and to root the phone?
Do we flash a kernel with CWM for the Z1?
Any help appreciated,.
Cheers
Glen.

[Q] Bootloader unlock questiones

Hey whats up guys? coming from samsung Galaxy s, i have a few questions to ask about locking and unlocking the bootloader...
1) i saw that if you unlock the bootloader, I will lose my DRM keys, so i will lose the mobile bravia engine, my answer is if I can restore it? and if not, can i restore it after re locking the bootloader again?
2) what benifits do i get from unlocking the bootloader? i mean some roms can be installed on locked bootloader with rooted device??
i know that im asking a noob questions, but hey, you need to start somewhere, dont you?
*also life was easier with samsung i9000, there you just need to root ur phone, and ur good to go...
anyway expecting my xperia z to ship this friady... ) can't wait !
Thanks in advance guys!

No, DRM and Bravia Engine 2 are lost forever. Maybe someone can port Bravia engine.
With an unlocked phone you can flash a custom kernel.

Hi there, what i did was unlocking the bootloader. As long as you do it carefully and follow instructions, dont skip any, it should be fine.
Firstly backup your data and stuff.
Next, flash .159 ftf, link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
Then root it with vroot.
After that backup your TA, link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598&highlight=ta
Then go to sony's website and unlock your bootloader. Warning: your warranty will be voided.
After that flash supersu or a pre rooted rom. Lots of those on XDA.
If you need any help PM me. Just be careful
hit thanks if i helped

Not thousand, but only hundreds of reported bricks. Not many

[Q] What should go first?

Hi!
I'm new to Sony Xperia Z.. Just updated it to 10.4.1.B.0.101 and now I'm confuse on what should I do first. Of course I choose android because of the customization but before that I have things to deal first. As a start, What should go first? Should I root the phone first or should I unlock the bootloader first? I'm trying to answer the question on my own but reading threads only leads me to nowhere kinda new to Sony Phones that's why..
Thanks in advance for who will response! Have a nice day everyone!

you only need to unlock the bootloader if you wish to use a custom rom/kernel
get xposed framework and gravitybox and gem modules and you can then start playing about and customising the look more

I see, so root alone will be just fine eh since some rom don't need unlock bootloader. I only want a stable debloated stock ROM at the moment to lessen the stress on my phone because it overheats a lot.. the bummer is I already updated to 4.3 which is not yet exploited. and what makes it worse is that I can't revert it by time being because my ISP is having issues and I can't download big files atm. so the time being there is nothing I can do but wait. grrr I got excited with the update why the hell did I do that. lol. guess no helping it.
Hoping someone will do the exploit for the .101 soon.
Thanks for the response mate.

[Q] Just got a Xperia SP C5306 - Questions about Rooting/Unlocking/Custom Rom

I just got a xperia sp c5306 from my sister and I want to root/unlock/install custom roms on it. I'm not a newbie to installing custom roms on android phone, my LG Opt G is rocking Lollipop, so I understand how to do it, I just have concerns about losing the DRM keys (From what I've read, thats a bad thing) that one of the guides I looked for first, which didn't go into detail on how to go about not losing the DRM keys.
Specifically, I want to upgrade it to Lollipop.
So, I come to you, friendly xperia folks for advice.
You can use towelroot to root your sp..then dwnload super su from ply store.. And next u can install duwel recovery for lbl(can find in xda, can't find the link) search and u can find it... Then u can install most of custom roms.. But at this moment lolipop rom is little buggy as i know.. But thera are many less bugged kit kat roms.. Same are with z2,z3 experiance... (i tried them).. Search xda... U can find many things about sp... Good luck..
