Hello,
Some of the apps in Play Market are saying that I have insufficient space when I try to update them.
At the same time, some apps update successfully, while others report about insufficient space.
For example:
Samsung Print Service Plugin - 10,42 MB - insufficient
Asphalt 8 - some small update slightly bigger than 10 MB - successfully update.
Revolt Classic - 114 MB app, update for 30 MB. Downloaded and updated without any problems
Facebook - 10+ MB. - insufficient
At the same time - update which is 100% of an app's size report about insufficient space, even when it's only 10 MB, while updates which are a smaller than the whole app, but are twice or more times bigger then those small updates - are installing just fine
Device memory - free 493 MB.
SD card - free 4.98 GB

I read somewhere that Samsung devices (or was it Android devices overall) have some limits for particular memory partitions so to say (cache, data, etc). And even when overall device's memory will have enough free space to install apps, it may report insufficient space due to overlimit of some memory partitions. Not sure how accurate I am saying this.
I tried looking at ADB to figure that out, but without much luck:
I tried clearing Cache partition from stock 3e recovery, but it behaves strangely - at first I see Android robot lying with red triangle or exclamation mark, and then the phone restarts itself. Dunno if it was successful.
I have an all stock firmware with root and reflashed stock recovery.
Do you have any ideas why does it behave this way?
Im having those problems when my free phone memory drops below 500 MB. Have you tried to delete unused apps and having over 500 MB free trying to update them again?
Maybe some stuff from those updates are automatically installing on sd card? Idk
from S4 Active Blue Ocean
I was just able to install a new game, which is 150+ MB, but am still unsable to update an app which is less than 2 MBs... Very strange.
I don't think it's really an actual free memory size's problem, and rather some part of it...
Try clearing data from Google Play Services.

is that normal ?
i think the problem with the phone storage !
only 6 MB free !! thats really too little and slows my phone down!
although :
- i install all programs on Internal 4GB Storage
- all camera photos and all music on Internal 4GB storage
i dont know why its low space and i dont know how to clean it !!
any help ?
no any fix.. ?
right click the storage using file explorer on your PC. Click search.
In the search criteria specify all files (including hidden files) over 1MB or 1000KB and hit search. See what files come up. Delete unnecessary files or move to internal storage if files required.
Try clearing the opera cache and/or the google maps cache if you have an older version of google maps which stores the cache in phone memory.
New versions of google maps can be installed to internal storage and will put the cache there aswell...
supersanj
i did what u said and i found alot of strange files to me, but how to know if there are necessary or not for windows !! ..
Just leave the files where they are will you? I wouldn't be suprised if you install all your programs to main memory instead of internal storage, I'm also pretty sure you got some sort of theme installed
i install all programs on "internal storage" memory not "device" memory..
My phone is showing that I have at least another gb of storage where my apps are stored. However, I can't use any more storage for apps. It maxed out at 1gb for apps. How do I enable more space other than moving apps to my ext sd?

What exactly do you mean "it maxed out at 1gb for apps"? Are you getting the Insufficient Space error when trying to install apps? If so, try this: Manage Applications/All/Market/Uninstall Updates/Clear Cache and if that doesn't work also Clear Data.
Good luck.
Also, many people have success by simply ignoring the error message and retrying the install.
Is uninstalling updates and deleting caches to clear space? My phone has plenty of space but I can't seem to use it.

No, those are steps that have worked in the past to prevent getting the "Insufficient Space" error when trying to download and install apps from the market.

I just had this error last evening (insufficient space). I did just what you suggested, and it worked the second time. Curious.....
Thank you. Your suggestion worked. The weirdest thing is that Android is now reporting more storage.

Hi,
i just installed Titanum Backup on my Captivate and it says:
System Rom: 289 MB (40 MB free)
i don't know why is showing this i thought that our captivate has 2 GB ROM !
Now i just have 40 mb left and i dont know where are my 2 GB...
Thx
Look one more line down. See where it says the Internal is 2.01GB (or something close to that number). That's the 2GB you're referencing.
thx, i know that, so what System Rom means?
why if the System Rom gets full i can not install more apps? its just for the OS?
It is just for the OS and anything you install as a system app. When you download a program from the market it goes to the Internal.

ROM = READ ONLY MEMORY
Yes, OS and some system apps. Not ones you download from market or other sources.
It's actually Electronically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory in old tech speak, EEPROM, which doesn't need a battery to keep info. It's what you 'flash' when you run minikies, odin, etc.
All the applications and data you add are stored in another type of static memory (internal or on an sdcard) that also doesn't need a battery to keep info.
To actually run programs, they get loaded from the previous types of memory into faster random access memory (RAM or ' system memory')
that only works when battery power is available. When you reboot your phone, typically by turning its offer and on, the RAM is cleared of any memory. You can't also check ram usage and free up parts of ram with task manager. Press and hold the home key and you wlll get a button for task manager. Click it, then select the RAM tab and you will see.
You've got all of those types of memory in the captivate.

The /system (ROM) partition is on the same nand as /data (internal storage, where user apps are installed) and /sdcard, they're not separate types. Just mounted differently, you need superuser permission to remount the "ROM" partition read/write
Duh! Of course, it's all on the one 16 GB ROM. And then there is the 1/2 GB of RAM.

Everything worked fine until I installed Clean Master, and I think it deleted something it shouldn't(I suspect that). Now, whenever I return to my homescreen, it takes up to 5 seconds, sometimes more, until I see all the icons. It doesn't matter where I return from, it has a delay. I have a lot of free memory, wiped Cache and Dalvik cache several times, tried 3 different kernels(running Doomlord at the moment, but have tried Trinity and CoCore Z), still same problem.
I have also tried different launchers, without any help.
I am om custom ROM, DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM.
I want to avoid another reinstallation. Thanks

Check your ram consumption..Another issue may be if you have a slow SD Card...Try pulling it off, but probably there is much ram consumption ...
Can you please post a screenshot with your free - used ram? Also try downloading an app that detects which applications are running in the background and try to uninstall them.

Thanks for your replay, but as I mentioned, I have a lot of free memory. Everything works smoothly besides going back to home screen, it takes time to show all icons.
Here is a screenshot of used RAM.

[question] After installing framework my phone gives " insufficient store place" erro
Dear Xposed framework users;
I have turkcell T60 a modified phone of ZTE BLADE S6 that runs android 5.0.2.
I root my device with kingroot than I install xposed framework. But immediatly after I restart my telephone it says "insufficient store place" . I have 10 gb internal and 3 gb external storage place.
I can download apps from internet but while I am installing it it makes an error. If I use google store to download them, immediately after downloading is makes error 504.
As far as I have learned it. After installing framework on my phone it blocks my phone's storage excess so there is some explanations for samsungs such as deleting some documents from data but not for my phone.
Does any one can help me to fix my problem?
Thanks for helping
Have you tried it with a different SuperUser/root app ?

Root doesnt make a problem. Problem occours after xposed framework.
True but your running out of space, supersu frees up some memory during installation.
You just need to uninstall/move to user a few system apps (suggestions include keyboard languages and google apps like youtube or hangouts which can be gotten from playstore
but guys I dont have storage problem. I have 10gb free storage place. eventhough I have place my phone says not enough place it is lover than 250 mb. Deleting apps isnt change the situtation
System drive is not user drive you have 10GB in user. System is where your ROM lives.
