[Q] Can't decrypt my HTC One (Nocturnal GE) - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I used the option under the security tab to encrypt my phone (I was sending it in to a third-party, I didnt really want any chance of some dude sifting through my files) and there is no option to decrypt. I want to update my ROM but I cant wipe anything with TWRP, as its encrypted. What should I do?

You should be able to reformat the data partition

Internal SD card doesn't mount

I flashed a new rom* today and everything works great except for the internal sd card not able to mount.
Ask what more information you need.

Not really a helpful response.. I'm quite aware it says that, as I've already stated that in my original post. Once I have flashed the rom and other file, do I flash the boot.img file before or after restarting the phone?

Internal SD Card recognized but will not mount!
Hey,
I recently rooted my HTC Vivid (ATT) and installed CyanogenMod version 10-20131006-NIGHTLY-holiday. Everything works fine but I cant get the internal sd card to mount. There is an option in the storage setting that say "mount internal sd card." When I press that it appears as if it is mounting then it Apps, Pictures, videos, Audio(music, ringtone..... etc. Almost right after you press that it goes back to the mount sd card button. I have flashed the boot.img, used the terminal emulator and still have the same problem! I would really really (and just to drive it home) REALLY appreciate it if someone would help me with this!
If you need more info or would like to contact me to help me just email me at [email protected]
You can also just message me here if you wish.
Lemme guess... You're using CWM...
If not... I bet you factory reset from hboot

Actually im using the recovery boot.img in root pack on the HTC Vivid main forum. I did press factory reset when I installed CyanogenMod. What can I do to fix it?

so when you boot to recovery, what does it say? Is it TWRP, CWM, WCX?
In all likelihood, you've lost the data on your internal storage. Rignfool has posted a fix for this issue countless times, and a quick forum search should come up with a topic where he outlines how to fix it. It involves mounting your phone via the recovery, and letting your windows computer fix/format the internal SD.

Its WCX. Sorry to be so naive but I looked and could not find Regnfool's post. Could you send a link to a few of them? I dont know if this helps but what I want to fix is the apps that use the sd card. Some apps that I know stored info on the sd card on my stock rom will work but are reset after I am finished using them. So bassically apps with save data half work due to this issue. Once again this is the first time I have ever rooted and installed a ROM so im a "rookie" just needing help.

Not a problem! It's an issue a lot of people (including me) have run into while doing stuff. Just count yourself lucky your charge port was working! (mine was not at the time, and was much more of a headache).

Can't flash zip due to encryption

Hey guys,
After having some issues the other day with not being able to access my device because encryption(which I will be working on a solution for), I ran in to another issue of not being able to flash a rom due to not being able to access my data partition.
How can I flash a rom with encryption on?
As I can't seem to find an option to remove encryption on the HTC one.
My advice don't use encryption but to late now

Problem solved after alot of trouble. Had to flash CWM to get /data mounted.
But evenlualy I was able to delete the encryption

4.3 Storage Problems?

Hey guys, I'm new to the one coming from an s4, and after learning all the necessary things I flashed a 4.3 custom Rom over the stock 4.1.2 that I had. Now I've got a massive amount (19.89 gb) of storage from 'other'... I tried deleting certain files that I thought were the culprit(data/media) but after trying to with box Rom toolbox pro and root explorer I have been unsuccessful in removing the folders, they just stick there no matter what I do, even after deleting them all twice over and rebooting several times. Now I've noticed that if I move a file into the 0 folder then suddenly the pictures show up in the gallery after a reboot. However there are still files I don't need and want to get rid of. Anyone for helping?

I've already read through that one, it doesn't help as it seems I cannot delete the folders, outside of data/media/0 as these all persist after a reboot, even after deleting them. File manager says finished deleting and then I reboot, still there, still taking up 7 gb extra space.

yep
looks like im using this phone with only an accessable 2 gigabytes for now. Bummer Hummer
Hate to be that guy, but back everything up (helium for apps and app data, move all media to a computer) and factory reset. It's a pain, I know, but it almost certainly will fix the problem.
I had the save problem, I used a usb otg thing and copied what I wanted, did a factory reset and formatted my storage in twrp, now all is good and transferred the stuff back to the phone storage

This seems to be the only fix, I've tried everything else. Seems it was an issue from going from 4.1.2 to to 4.2.2 also
Ive tried a factory reset, clockwork mod wipe, deleting root folders and nothing works!! :crying: Ill try the twrp format though. because right now i have 11gb in my "other" folder!
UPDATE: holy poop guys that was the most scary bricking Ive ever dealt with!!!!! whatever you guys do, dont format EVERYTHING like I did!!!!

I've been dancing around using the TWRP "format data" option as well, so you are advising against that huh? Why, was it a little more than just factory reset type deal? I need to find a solution to this issue and I know that resetting is the answer, just need to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for the update, and I would love to hear what exactly you went through selecting the TWRP format option!

I formatted EVERYTHING in twrp haha the only way I got my phone back was to downgrade twrp to 2.5.0.0 and use abd sideload ( sideloaded my viper rom) with the htc toolkit program on my pc. And now my "other" folder says 2 gb which I believe is correct. :good: But now I have another problem I went into recovery and installed a zip file that modified the amount of steps i had in my volume, (I have already installed it before and it worked great) now my phone is in a bootloop and Ive already tried flashing a new boot image but it doesn't work....what do i do?
UPDATE: I guess i warned against it because I thought i ruined my phone. Also, I just sideloaded viper rom again to fix my problem

[Q] Decryption

Is it possible to decrypt using the stock ROM, or at least get TWRP to be able to backup the encrypted phone?
Thanks
Umm, I think you mean deodex or odex.
And yes but you need an unlocked bootloader or root to install TWRP.

No I encrypted the phone from Settings > Security> Encrypt Phone. I know on the Nexus 4 there was an option to decrypt afterwards. I also knew that TWRP could mount the encrypted partition on the N4. I have Verizon now though so no Nexus for me. It looks like the Moto X is only able to be decrypted via factory reset. I was wondering if there was another unofficial method to decrypt such as a command line command.
Thanks
You didn't state this in your OP.

Sorry. I thought asking to decrypt was clear enough. (My bad) Anyway is there a way to get TWRP reading the encrypted partition? I want to have encryption for security reasons, but still be able to create TWRP backups in case I break something.
Thanks
PS: Decryption works fine too since then I can TWRP backup and re-encrypt.
How did you get TWRP to work with encryption on your MotoX?

TWRP sadly does not work with the encryption. I had to reinstall the stock recovery, encrypt, then install TWRP again if you want. You can't flash or make nandroid backups but at least the phone is encrypted.

[Q] new hboot 1.57 problems wtih twrp

so i got refurb and went through the whole process of unlocking bootloader, fastbooting twrp. (i'm hardly a newb and understand fastboot commands) hell, i'd s off if it were availible for my hboot. anyways when i'm in recovery and i go to wipe caches etc.. it tells me failed, can't mount cache. wtf can i do here? iv'e tried multiple versions of twrp and nothing seems to be working. any help would be appreciated!
yes i'm s on, yes bootloader is unlocked, tried goo manager first, then resorted to fastboot method once that failed. it says available space 37mb... which is definitley NOT right.
You can get S-OFF with hboot 1.57, actually. Either with Firewater or Sunshine.
Not so sure about the issue with the recovery, however. Which version of TWRP do you currently have?
(On a random note, did you used to be on the EVO LTE forums too?)
Sunshine costs 25$... No thanks. I'm using the latest twrp. I tried fastbooting about 4 different versions and all of them do the same thing. It's like it doesn't have the room to mount the cache partition... It says 37mb available... Which is bs cause it's a fresh phone. I'm sure there's some terminal commands but I'm clueless in that aspect. I'm more of a flasher with minor knowledge in fastboot commands. But I've been doing this since the og evo days. And yes I've been on the evo lte forums before.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
The name caught my eye. I remember you from there. And I'm pretty much in the same as far as phones, EVO > EVO LTE > ONE. lol
I hear you on the Sunshine costs, but apparently, this works when nothing else does...not all phones can use the Firewater exploit.
With Firewater, I got S-OFF after unlocking, gaining root, making a backup and then running CM 11, gapps and then running Firewater after rooting CM 11 again. Got thru on the second bottle. There's not a modified hboot with red text removed yet. But you'll be S-OFF.
Believe me, I feel your pain. This phone was definitely built a lot differently than the past ones.
There has to be something to figure out. Did you make a backup of the current ROM? If so, maybe you could do a wipe of data and the caches. You shouldn't have to touch system, but if you do, that's what the nandroid is for in case if you run into an issue.
Do NOT wipe internal storage. I repeat DO NOT WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE. I'm sure you know that though.
I can't even make a backup lol. I can't even wipe caches. So if I can't wipe caches/data/etc.. I can't flash a custom Rom. I know I'll have to fastboot the boot.img being s on still but that's not a big deal. I just want twrp to friggin work so I can move on with my day. Luckily stock Rom is still functional and I can still use vanilla sense 6.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
You might be able to flash via an otg cable and microsd card from your LTE if you still have it? It's definitely on my buyers list.
And I figured that you tried to clean your phone while in Sense 6, yeah?
If I go in to storage settings in twrp it says on 37mb available... I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why it won't see more than that. When I attempt to wipe caches it says "failed can't mount cache partition" so I go in to mount and try to manually hit the "x" on cache and it won't even let me....
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
What about while you're in the ROM itself? It probably won't do anything, but you may as well weigh all of your options.
No I don't have an otg cable. I just posted in the thread for the latest twrp. Hoping someone might have a solution.

I might of missed it, but did you try Firewater S-Off? And I will just assume you are using the newest TWRP (I know CWM is having the same issue), just ruling out points of failure.
