if you've got a working CWM or TWRP Recovery then it should be easy to flash a new firmware onto the phone. I haven't done this but try the following steps :
1. Download this http://www.ipho9.com/install-dmod-custom-rom-galaxy-s3-mini-gti8190/ custom ROM
2. DO NOT extract it (keep the .zip file, well, zipped )
3. Copy/Paste the above .zip file to your external sd card
4. Start the phone and go to recovery (power+home+volume up buttons)
5. Choose install zip from external sd card
6. Find the .zip file that you just copied and select it
7. Now wait until it installs (can take about 10 mins or more - just be patient)
8. Reboot phone when the installation of the ROM is complete
9. Have fun with your completely new S3 Mini with a new great S4 look&feel
Hope that works !

Hi all,
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S I9000, but I don't have the stock Live Wallpapers.
Now I wanna install/do this:
"First place SamsungLWP.zip on the root of your SDcard (plug your phone into your computer and transfer the samsungLWP.zip to your phone's sdcard)
1. Go into rom manager and reboot into recovery
2. scroll down to install zip from sd card and press the power button
3. scroll down choose zip from SD card again hit power button
4. highlight signed SamsungLWPs.zip
5. Hit power button
6. Go back until you get to the reboot option I think back twice Reboot phone
7. go to personalize in setting options select htc wallpapers select live wallpapers and pick one to enjoy one"
I can't do the 2nd step, because there is no choice to select 'install zip from sd card'.
Can anybody help me?
I've got the stock rom (Froyo) and the phone is rooted.
Help would be appreciated
Koen
nobody?, I really need this now
did you fetch cwm?
The instructions assume you have CWM recovery (or a similar tool) on your phone.
In order to install programs in this manner you have to get CWM recovery. (search for rom manager in market and flash cwm (it's the first option from the top),
then again, I'm assuming you're getting this since you're still on 3e (the recovery most galaxy s phones come with). What I'd like you to do is get your phone into recovery mode and tell me what the very first line on the top says.
Hi,
The first line says: 'Android system recovery <3e>'
theres your problem you need recovery 2e
search for CWM in either update.zip or Flashable Odin version like cf-root.
if you get the update.zip version you need to put it on the root of your internal sd card, boot into recovery and select apply:update.zip you will need to do this twice... then CWM will appear and let you flash unsigned zip files.
if you use odin version just flash it in download mode and when you next boot you will have 2e recovery.
I just fixed it, I did put the 'data/app' folder onto my phone, and installed it, and it worked.
Thx everyone
There's your problem
You currently do not have the option to install (most) zip files from recovery. If you do want this option it is very possible and not too complicated(although this might void warranty) please read the forum guide on how to get CWM (clockworkmod)
I'm having a similar problem, but azzledazzle's suggestion left me a little baffled. I've got rom manager installed, Clockworkmod flashed and all that good stuff, but I'm still not able to install new roms. Now, I'm just about to try recovery mode, and...
Yes, 3e.
But how do I find a 2e thingie? Imagine I'm a gigantic moron who can put things in folders, but that's about it. I apologise for the pathetic help request, but if there's anyone...
Any help guys?thanks
Also having problems installing from sd

Obviously you need to flash the latest custom recovery CWM. After that flashing zip will work.

Hi,
I've Just bought a Galaxy Note. When I first ran it, it was on Gingerbread, then an update was found, I installed it.
It's of course Android 4.0.3, the version of the kernel is XXLPY.
I would like to root it. My question is, what is the simplest way to do it without taking any risk? (I'm a 4 years iPhone user, it's my first Android phone)
Do I need a micro SD card?
I read that I'll have to change the kernel after the rooting process so that the "deep sleep" problem will not drain the battery fast. Is that right? How to do it?
If someone has a link to a current method (I found some old methods, before the XXLPY brick risque was found) to do it step by step, it would be nice.
hope it's not a too noob quesitnon :/

If its your first android phone and you only just bought it i suggest you get to no the phone 1st before you attempt anything.
Welcome to Android.
Thank you very much guys. So it needs indeed an external micro sd card.
So I've just bought a sdcard 32gb, originaly formated to fat32.
So this is what I'm gonna do :
- Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
- Reboot to recovery.
- Choose apply update from external storage.
- (Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options)
- Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
- Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
- Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
- Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted

Do I need to check the "Allow external sources" option like I saw in some other posts? Is that otpion available in ICS? Can I root when with the USB cable pluged in?
I just want to be sure to not mess up anything
Ok so I did this :
- Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
- Reboot to recovery.
When I rebooted, I had a warning about custom OS's, I pressed Volume up to continue, a screen with "Downloading, Do not turn off target" appeared
So how to proceed to this :
3. Choose apply update from external storage.
4. (Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options)

Rooting not recommended if you don't know how to go to recovery mode. If you got root access I doubt you will seriously messed up or maybe brick your device.
Anyways if you want to root than
Turn off the phone press VOLUME UP + home + power to go to recovery mode....
No need to go to download mode (vol down + home + power)
Aryo.b listen to Gex....
I think rooting is not needed now for you.
Learn more about the Android world.
I would like to, but the battery is going down really fast, and I read that it's an ICS problem that needs to be fixed by rooting the phone and change kernel.
The battery dropped down by 25% in about 2 hours, with doing anything exceptional...
- Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
- Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD

here, nothing happend, the highlight went back to the first line "Reboot"
I tried twice but same thing. When I finaly decided to reboot, this message appeared in the bottom of the screen :
PHP:
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.1.5
E:Can't cache recovery log
E:Can't cache recovery log
E:Can't cache recovery last_log
E:Can't cache recovery last_log
I had to press long the power button to reboot the phone. Maybe it's a matter of the version of CWM?
Battery needs couple of charge and discharge cycle for best performance...
Rooting in ICS is very simple process... Exactly what is the situation???

Agree, but 30% in 2 hours, I don't think it's a matter of best performance of the battery.
So the thing is that When I select "install zip from sdcard" in CWM nothing happen.
@chintamanijaipuri
Which Kernel are you using for root on ICS? I'm after a rooted kernel as close to stock as possible, but without the eMMC issue.
Ok, so now it's rooted.
How can I change the kernel and put the franco one?
Thank your guys.

Hey dude,
You just flash thru CMW recovery, download the the kernel zip of FranciscoFranco -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491428) and save it on your external sd, just like the same process of how you root your Note.. Look for the zip file from "install from external Storage" and scroll to the name of Franco's latest kernel zip and apply it.
Cheers!
Root Stock ICS ROM
This method works on the released ICS rom from Germany and I would expect it to work for the rest of the ICS roms due for release..
This method does not increase the binary counter or causes a yellow exclamation mark
Rooting
Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.

Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot

this method works best for my galaxy note after stock ICS update
@Letters to cleo just flashed. It was simple and worked fine. Thanks.
In fact everything was easy, but you have no clue how things works (my first android phone) everything seems complicated but it's not.
Hop that this flash will slow a little bit the battery drain.
This is my bro's old phone, and he said it's rooted and it has CWM installed.
1. I wanted to install a new rom so I put the zip file in an SD card.
2. There's a Recovery mode option when you want to restart the phone
3. I wiped the cache and data/partition.
4. I tried searching for the zip file, but I couldn't find it.
5. So I turned off the phone and relocated the zip file to the root of the sd drive.
Now! I'm trying to load into recovery, but I can't.
Is it bricked????
I plugged it on the pc and it made a sound that detected the device.
Btw, I'm a total amateur at programming/rooting, so all the help in the simplest form would be very appreciated.
Please help, the phone is still good and I don't want it to go to waste. I wanna start using it! Any help is appreciated (including reference links to other posts/threads)
to come into recovery mode, pull your battery out and then in again. then hold volume up, home button and power on all together....hold them all 3 till Samsung S logo is gone or till Kernel logo appears, the you can led the power button free but hold the other 2 till you will be in recovery mode again.
In CWM do not search or tick for the update zip. Go over: install zip from internal sd card and then phone should show you the files which are included there. Hopefully device will show you the rom.zip you want to flash there too.
If not, then i recommend to search here in the forum, and take you some to read and inform you about next steps....here are some links for first and further informations:

Need more info. Format type of internal SD? Drivers? OS? Etc...
Thank you for your reply. Are the above links given to give me a hand (stupid question certainly)?
Well, I am going to try to repair my tablet with a new SD card. But I need help right from the start.
Living in France, I suppose the right firmware must start with WW. I have downloaded all these firwares from Asus:
UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.27-user.zip, UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.29-user.zip, UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.30-user.zip, WW_10_26_1_18_SDupdate.zip, WW_epaduser_10_14_1_47_UpdateLauncher.zip, WW_epaduser_V11_4_1_17_updatelauncher.zip.
Which one should I use? What am I going to do next?
When I start it in flashboot mode, I get the message "Android Macallan-user BL released by "WW_epad_11.4.1.30-20150121"
Press ...
Starting fastboot USB download protocol"

Well you should use the latest one which is UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.30-user.zip
I'm not sure what you are attempting to do? Are you saying that your internal data is not working or just not recognised by windows. If the later you probably just need to update your drivers on windows.
Have a search for the latest compatible windows ones for Asus.
my tablet is stuck in boot process. I did something wrong when deleting built-in apps, so I have to make a recovery.
I made some progress in the meantime. Connected the tablet to the PC, put the CWM boot.img in the fastboot folder, put Asus UL-K00C-WW-11.1.4.30 firmware on the SD card, started fatboot.exe and got the menu on the tablet (reboot system now - install zip - wipe data partition - ...), started install.zip.
Now I get the message "This package is for KOOC; this is a tf701t. Error in storage/USBdisk1h/ul-KOOC-11.4.1.30-user.zip.Installation aborted

Did you rename the stock firmware zip file to T4_SDUPDATE.zip and put the zip firmware file on the root of the EXTERNAL SD card and power on or restart your device. it should detect a firmware update. if it does not detect any firmware update after about 1 or 2 minutes or it boots normally, go into bootloader and select RCK from the menu with zip file on the external sd card.
it sounds like you were trying to install the stock firmware zip file through the custom recovery install zip option which will not work. TF701T is KOOC... also, make sure 100% that your Tablet is the WW version and not the TW or US version!

okay, since you have a custom recovery the zip file is not detected. CM and CWM recovery are not the same. you should be able to find an installable stock file somewhere or try another rom. As long as you have a working recovery installed then you should be good to go for any updates.
This is your best bet for near stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf701/development/rom-t2999102

Hey man ! French friend here !
I just had a misadventure with my phone yesterday (you can read about it in one of the recent topics) and had to reinstall the whole OS. Actually, it's not as tricky as you might think it is. I assume you already have the b130 zip file (getting the ROM was the hardest part in my case) ?
If you do, then connect your phone to your computer and allow file sharing. Now extract the archive content to your phone's internal storage. Among the files is one named "update.app". You have to cut/paste it in a folder named "dload", which you'll have to create in your internal storage.
With that done, power off your phone and turn it one again by pressing simultaneously the volume up, down and power buttons. The B130 version should be installing and after a reboot, you'll be good to go.
Note that this procedure will wipe out all the data in your internal storage. Don't be a fool like me and back up everything you want to keep. Your bootloader will be locked again as well and obviously, the custom recovery and all apps - including Super su and Xposed - will be gone. Your phone will be brand as new.
Come back to me if you need anything.
