So I just got a z1s from T-Mobile and was looking under the flap on the right side of the phone and inside the flap on the bottom there is a little red square. I was wondering if that is the water damage indicator so I can go complain at the T-Mobile store if it is already "water damaged".
I have not gotten it wet at all since I got it, so hopefully everything will work out fine.
Could it be just the Reset button ?
That's most likely the reset button

It's possible, it's a little red square, I'm not sure what the water indicator looks like but I remember reading about it turning red when exposed to water so when I opened the flap and saw a red spot my paranoidness started kicking in.
I'll go check the manual to see what the reset button looks like
Thanks
Edit: On a side note I'm loving this phone so far, almost bought a z ultra last year but figured I'd wait till ces and hope for a phone on tmobile and so far it's been great and now I can jump to the z2 if I want later this year,
Here's how the Reset button looks on the Z1 and it should be similar, if not identical, on the Z1s.

I can almost guarantee you there is. I'll see what the official support docs say tomorrow and report back. Most likely its hidden in or around the SIM tray as it is with most battery internal phones
Of course there are some inside the phone. Almost every phone has some. But this will only show if there was some water inside the phone, not how it found his way inside. So Sony cannot tell you, that your ports where open when you dropped it in water.

Not sure sure about the s, but on the z1 the inside/back of the flaps are white. These turn red if they get wet. The indicators are not on the phone body but rather on the flaps themselves.
Lol
Where? Can you show me /us?

I'm curious now, I doubt what you've said is true as the flaps look the same as the ones off the Z in terms of material and composition, the Z flaps don't turn red, or mine would have looked like a car brake light.

I've just confirmed it, dripped a couple of drops of water out of a syringe onto the flap over the USB and the flap over the Sim tray, Nothing changed.
I was careful enough to make sure the phone was at such an angle that any water could not possibly get into the handset. And my warranty is already toast before anyone says how daft I was

As a great phone this is I'm concerned with where Sony have placed the water markers.
I understand that they are there for their protection but the top one really annoys me when I'm listening to music.
It would be great to have a water resistant phone that you could take out your pocket in the rain to change tracks ect. in ore of peoples expression 'Your getting your phone wet!'.
I wish Sony to a leaf out of Apples book placed theres underneath the headphone jack like the iPhone.
Any one agree?
My sensor under the headphone flap has already gone pinkish. living it england its hard not to get a little bit of rain on it when out at the shops and changing tracks. no idea what this would mean for my warranty.

My thoughts exactly.
it seems like sony could easly refuse to repair a device, even if it's not your fault...
I am thinking of placing a small sticker over the water marker to prevent it from triggering.

could you prevent it with a method that simple? and what would you prefer to remove the sticker in case of using the warranty?
i'm also curious as if this method is ok . I think sony would have thought about the sticker thing and maybe the sensor also reacts to something else like glue ...
What about sony's water resist warranty? If the stickers' colour changed to red, that means the phone got water from this places. Even flaps are correctly closed, If there is some faulty on the flaps the phone will get water.
So, i think it's not big problem the place of stickers, inside the phone or just near the plug.

The way I use my phone, the jack is on the bottom. I have it on a neck strap using the lanyard hook, so it holds the phone upside down. I ride a pushbike everywhere, work, in the rain so works out well this way for me. This was a selling point to me on the phone - lanyard strap, water resistant. When I rode with my iphone I had it in a grungy neck bag, and when it rained I either hoped for the best, or put it in a plastic bag...
If you triggered your water sensor somewhere - it doesn't mean your warranty is immediately void. If your phone dies from water damage, they check the covers and make their tests. If they leak - they'll repair your phone. If they don't, it means you left it open, doesn't really matter if your sensors turned pink or not - it's just for Sony, to let them know where the damage most likely happened.
Btw. just get an SBH20 bluetooth headset, problem solved. It's great and you can use any headphones with it

It'd be fantastic if you could get cordless Bluetooth canalphones. One day they'll be able to get that stuff small enough...
I had wondered if this was bugging anyone else, it's a real bug bear to me since I usually use my phone for music every day, but living in the UK it likely to get some drops of rain in.
This means not only am I forced not to use my favourite headphones, but also that I have to buy one of those SBH20s.
The door itself is a PITA as well cause I fear it might snap of while open when taking the phone in and out of my pocket.

That's the problem for me, the sensor is already pink just after 1 month of using the jack audio connection for my headphone, morality, you definitively need a bluetooth headphone or you will break the warranty. I've returned the phone to my provider that they confirmed that break the warranty BUT after contacting Sony with them, Sony confirmes that they always open the phone to really check if it's water damaged or not, if not, if it's just the sensor you haven't to worry but Sony is warning us by telling that some providers will certainly refuse to send the phone to be repairing by seeing the sensor, so if your phone is really damaged and you have the red sensor, you can cry.
For my case i've taken the bigest warranty for my phone, even if i destroy it myself i just need to pay the franchising of 50€ and they change it immediatly.

It's no slur on the contributions of the other posters here, I'm trying to say that there is nobody making anything worth looking at these days.

sorry i can't give you a review as i don't own a pair. but i do like the design, as it fits nicely with spectacle users compared to some other models.
I seem to have a spec of something in the screen, I just noticed it yesterday. I'm 100% sure it was not there before as its on the white part of the gmail icon on my homescreen, so if it was there before I would have noticed it.
I'm also pretty certain it's not a dead pixel as it appears above the text on my screen. Also if I position some text so the corner or edge of a letter just touches it, it seems to shift if I look at it in different angles which would indicate its not a pixel but something above the actual LCD panel.
Not sure how to explain this better, but I have seen LCDs with dead pixels, something behind the LCD panel, and something between the LCD and glass, and this definitely looks like it something above the lcd.
The thing is, the Xperia Z LCD panel is meant to be bonded directly to the LCD, so there is no air gap, so theoretically nothing can get between the LCD and the glass.
Anyway, I just ordered a usb microscope (always wanted one anyway) which should arrive tomorrow so I can get a better look at this and figure out what is going on.
Just really bugging me at the moment, also heard that sony has been refusing repairs on Xperia Z with less than 3 faulty pixels, so also worried if it is indeed a pixel.
OK, it is definitely dust or something in my screen, I have tried shining a bright LED into the screen and I can see a speck with the screen off, exactly where the the black spec shows up on my screen is on.
I thought the whole lcd was meant to be bonded to the screen removing the whole of the air layer. as shown on sony's website.
Anyone have similar issue? or know about if there is indeed a gap between the lcd and the glass?
Well, no one seems interested in this thread, but here goes anyway. Just in case someone does have same issue later on:
usb microscope arrived today and here are the pictures:

Under 500X
It clearly shows that its not a dead or stuck pixel. there is definitely something between the LCD and the glass. Which would mean that there is a gap between the LCD and the front glass. I thought that there isn't a gap as the LCD is bonded to the glass.
Have to find time to take it to sony and see what they say I guess.

Thankfully there are people who share their problems even when no one was intetested like in this thread I am curious how this issue end up for the dust owner Well, I have bought Z1 Compact and it seems I'm facing the same problem. Firstly, I thought that maybe dead pixel appeared after few days but can't be - that black spot is seen even when the screen is turned off. It's very small but for me makes huge difference.
Hello everyone!!
I need help quickly! I have the same problem with my XZ, i have dust under the digitizer (only visible on white and green light), if I send it on RMA, will they change the screen and digitizer (I heard somewhere that they need to do that because it's sticked together), or just clean the dust?
Thanks in advance

They told me that the front of the phone with lcd and digitizer gets replaced as it's all one part.
So I just got another xperia Z, used, from ebay, and there is 2 issues that i think could be warranty issues.
1) the tape under the seals is red, not white, showing water leakage? I saw reports of this from poeple on the forum, do sony cover repairing seals? This was the special launch bundle with headphones etc. so it is one of the first off the line
2) there is a blemish on the right hand corner, which lines up with where the dock clips in, could this have been caused by the dock? if so is this covered by warranty. See the images below

I guess sony wont cover those small damages, I even got a small dot on a gorilla glass, I peeled of the screen protector but when I cleaned it with soft cloth I discovered very tiny dot (scratch) and I got very pissed, it is almost invisible but I hate to know that my phone has a scratch because I always take care of my phone and I'm very careful! I also was interested if the could polish the screen or something but they said it's not a factory damage and would not repair it. I had Xperia S and I promised myself not to buy SONY products because of build quality and again I did it! I'm very disappointed Hope Honami will be better

Upon closer inspection, the issue with the screen is more because it has been replaced badly (didnt know this before), the corner is not stuck down properly, so sticks up and makes it easier to damage, all that has happened is the black bezel has come off a small chunk in the corner, meaning it is just clear, as it lights up when you turn the screen on. Also pushing on the sides of the screen presses on the actual LCD, just a really poor repair!
Still wondering about the pinkish tabs under the flaps though

If you break your own device man up and pay up. The only reason i left this here was because it wasn't due to hardware.
Just to update people on this, the phone is going back, the screen was poorly replaced and is loose on 2 corners, the back is also loose from where it has been dropped, so a combination of not well looked after and poor build quality really. well, three months ago I used sony stock based rom(semc camera) and now I use CM11(but has some sony technology - check FXP225 athttps://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/progress), furthermore I'm getting result like this with sony stock rom camera app these days anyway.

and finally a shot of lens of my xperia v (shot with HD2)
I really need to fix it before 12/27(UTC+9).. because I have a flight to japan that day and purpose of going is to travel.. and I really want to take pictures with my xperia v.. due to the fact that I don't have a better camera than it..
I ordered my one from HK, because sony is not selling xperia devices in my country.. so I can't get sony c/s and have to fix it my self and I don't think FedEx economy will deliver the ordered part by than.. and UPS Express(?) costs almost 99euros..
well I read what I wrote and it's just like a long line of complaining
but any way I wanna ask you guys if there are some one else is having similar lens damage like me or is it just happening me?
and it would be grateful if some one tells me a solution of this situation

have you tried glasses/lens cleaning solution? Spray a little bit and wipe the lens with a cloth. I'm not sure if it'll do much though.
The close up is not good enough to see damage details.
used glass towel with glass cleaner(blue liquid) and blur disappeared!
until now I only used glass towel.. but I can't fiqure out why the lens got stained..;
but..
but of course scratches and some sort of exfoliation of coating(?) is still there..
it's not affecting the image quality(at least for now, I think..) but it's a proof of the fact that xperia V's lens is easy to get scratched ;(
any way ordered middle housing, which contains rear camera lens, apparently lens is not sold stand alone.
ordered black one to make mixture of white model and black model, white back cover with black middle hoop and shiny chrome(?) port covers!
and thanks for advise!

Good to hear!
Consider not using a regular glass / window cleaner on coated glass. It may contain tensides / ammoniac which some coating don't like. What you need is a liquid designed for optical glass, or methyl alcohol, and a microfibre. Remove dust and other particles with a brush or by blowing before cleaning. Don't dry-clean optical glass. At least breath on it first and then use the microfibre. If there are still smudges use a drop of the methyl alcohol on the microfibre.
until now i used typical ones to clean lenses.. thanks for useful information!
taking care of lenses is harder than I thought..
hope new lens I ordered keep good condition.

Now time to go out and take some pictures!
went swimming today , water entered inside the phone somehow ,probably the flaps would have been loose!
as soon i went in ,the phone switched off . i took it out tried switching it on but how ever it didn't turn on.
tried to dry it , even tried removing all the water its been about 8 hours now still not switching on !
my question here is : will sony accept the warranty? cause my phone is barely 5 months old ! and its their manufacture problem that the flaps got loose and water went in .
will it switch on if i keep in dry rice for a day or 2 ? i mean does that really help !?
last question is , is it repairable or my phone is doomed?

It's your fault, you shouldn't have gone swimming with it, it wasn't made for that. I think Sony won't repair it, if they repair it they will most likely charge you a service fee for it.
Also trying to turn it on won't help, it'll make things even worse. Try to dry it in rice for a couple of days, DO NOT try to turn it on in the meanwhile.

It says no swimming, no diving

Not very much. and did you just caried it in your pocket and swimmed?
Even if i spilled my coke on it i would be worried.
And you don't have to say to SONY that you went swimming - you dropped it in your toilet.

Try the service center and say that your phone got waterdamaged due to loose flaps.
That's what I did with mine since my headphone flap cover was very loose and it got spilled with water. The camera lens got foggy and audio port doesn't work. I turned it off but it never went on again no matter what i did. It turned out you shouldn't turn it back on in those cases.
4 days in rice bed didn't help so I tried the service center. I said the phone got waterdamaged due to loose headphone flap. The guy asked if i submerged it over 1m. I said no, it got spilled by water. He checked the loose flap and said they will check it and told me to prepare for any service charge.
I got it back after 2 weeks free-of-charge. They even replaced the headphone flap. Im gonna take care of the phone now.

omg are u serious? do we get a fully replaced phone for faulty flaps? cuz i have a feeling my flaps are faulty!! cuz i had clearly closed those flaps
..anyways how much would they charge if they dont replace it? any idea?
damaged flaps on my wifes xz and got the water indicator pink. no water damage really my 2yo son chewed the flap and thats how it turned pink. when we sent it in to sony after it did the black screen brick they charged me $107 saying it was water damaged. tried to explain that it had nothing to do with liquid damage and that it was a well known issue with the phone and had even been acknowledged by sony but they didn't care and charged me anyways
