Guys,
I have a question. I am in the market for upgrading my Motorola Photon. Its right timing for Motorola to launch Moto X. I am currently with Sprint but I may switch to Straight Talk soon.
If I buy Off contract Moto X on Sprint, can I use it on Stright Talk?
Thank you.
No.

Why not? Doesn't the Moto X support LTE bands that AT&T and Straight Talk uses? It also has SIM card slot right?
Anybody here who can help?

Not LTE, just HSPA+. It will work fine, just not with LTE.

Are you sure Sprint Moto X will work? I thought sprint locks their Moto X's?
It‘s sim locked

Does anyone know how the sim lock actually works? I have bought new Sprint Moto X recently from ebay. I live in Europe and the phone wasn't activated yet. I can't use any local sim, but what's strange is that I have called to Sprint support and don't have my phone's IMEI in their DB, so I suspect that the lock is just a software lock on the phone itself. Is there any chance that the lock can be bypassed by flashing a different ROM?
Any update on this? Thank you
I have the sprint variant of the moto x and I want to know if it can be unlocked to work on other networks here in the us. I bought the phone for 350$ bucks and I'm happy with the phone I'm currently using on sprint, I just want to be able to use it on other carriers.
Mine worked with a tmobile Sim card once you unlock the book loader. I called sprint for the Sim unlock and they said I should be all set. Popped in a Sim card from a T-Mobile iPhone 5 and behold I was surprised it actually worked

How did you get them to unlock the phone for you? I just called and was told that I need to have the phone active for 90 days before they can unlock it which I think is load of bs.

Well I work for sprint do technically they can't stop me lol. But just call again and say your account has been active for X amount of years you are taking a vacation before winter to (make up some place) I would really like to use my sprint device over seas and continue to keep sprint when I come back. If they give you problems ask for the supervisor if that doesn't work there are some reputable sites that you can pay like $5 and get the unlock code

As you enter the unlock code? In other models, just insert another operator, and there is a window to enter the code. If Moto x 1056 this is not possible ...

From what I've a heard is that you can use the Sprint moto x on other US carriers but I've not been able to get my phone unlocked. They keep telling me that I need to have the phone active for 90 days and there is nothing they can do until then.

OK that worked. I do have the xt1056 model. So the only way to have the phone unlocked would be to have Sprint unlock it for me?

I got this phone in canada. I want to unlock it for the UMTS bands. is there anyway possible to unlock this device without having to call sprint. When I pop in a gsm sim card. I choose GSM/UMTS, it doesnt prompt me to enter the sim network unlock key like other androids do. is there a dial code perhaps to make the network key entry prompt pop up ? When I do *#06# in GSM mode it gives me a IMEI# and I also noticed when i choose 4G/CDMA and I do *#06# it gives me a MEID #

Hi,
I have recently bought a MotoX Sprint XT1056 not developer ed. I have unlocked the phone using this guide from on youtube watch?v=sw675ipX-ds
It is unlocked now and I can detect the network operators available but cant register to any. There is a red triangle with a white + on the celular signal icon. The sim I am using was tested on an iPhone 5 and works, using an micro sim adaptor it works on my S4. The sim is cut, however using a proper nano sim it still says sim error.
I would really like to use the MotoX I think it is a really solid phone and feels good at hand, what could the issue be??
You have unlocked bootloader of your phone, that does nothing with sim lock. Sprint devices are locked so you should contact them before you can use them in other networks
I have looked around the forum and other sites. Is sprint moto x a gsm phone or cdma? Because I can detect gsm networks. But cellunlocker says my phone is not gsm. Anyone can confirm it?

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA on their networks for Voice and 3G data, however they include GSM bands for "global roaming capabilities" and also support LTE.
Sprint ships their phones with the GSM side sim locked. Verizon's X is shipped Sim UNLOCKED. (this is separate from locked/unlocked bootloader).
There are a few threads I've seen about people trying to use Sprint Moto X with the SIM of a GSM carrier and running into difficulties due to the SIM Lock. I haven't seen any "this is how I sim unlocked my Sprint Moto X and got it working on a GSM carrier" type posts. I've seen a few suggestions of "call sprint to try and unlock." This might work, but it might not. Some carriers have rules around sim unlocking... (must be current customer, billing must be current, have to be customer for xxx days, etc).
How to get the unlock window to pop out? Inserting a foreign sim doesnt seem to make it work.

I have a Sprint moto X that was a gift from someone in the US, all my local SIMs that I've inserted are displaying "invalid SIM" and it's not asking for any unlock code either, do anyone know what's wrong and possible solution. Thanks
The phone is simlocked and does not prompt for an unlock card like a GSM phone. I believe only Sprint can unlock it.
I think Sprint requires a device to be active for 90 days on their service before it can he unlocked. You can try calling though. The only CDMA carrier in the US that sells LTE devices that are already GSM unlocked is Verizon.

okay, I'll try and contact Sprint
Hey all.
I ordered a moto X about 2 weeks ago, i got the unlocked Tmobile version that was on sale for 350$
anyway i live abroad and i was sure that i would be able to use the phone here (like the moto G) but i cant, it seems that the phone is ONLY unlocked for US carriers.
So my questions are:
1) is there an easy way for me to unlock it Globally for free? (Tmobile said they can do it but only from a store in the US).
2) I saw people can buy unlock codes, but my phone does not show that it is unlocked so i'm not sure if that will work..?
Any help would be very appreciated!
Tevie.
If you have the tmobile version then the phone is already sim/provider unlocked.
Which phone exactly did you get and what specific problem are you having?

I got the moto x from moto maker (picked the unlocked T-Mobile version)
The problem is that its not unlocked for Sim abroad, only in the U.S . I wanted to know how I can get it to work with a Sim not from the U.S
TMO version is supposed to be unlocked for any carrier. How do you know that it is not the case? Did you try to put non-US SIM card and it failed?

Thanks for the replay's.
I did put a local Sim in the phone and it could not register to a local networked (the same Sim worked in a different phone )
Note that it found the local networks just can't log to them.
Note 2 . TM told me that its locked for use abroad ...
It is 100% unlocked, there is no partial lock on the phone. If the phone can't register with your provider there is a different problem not related to sim locking.
I'm using my T-Mobile X in the Caribbean all fine with no hiccups or issues. Maybe it needs the APN.

I bought the T-mobile version form Moto maker, and without a problem put a Base nano sim in it. Works fine. Strangely enough it shows 4G almost everywhere... Wonder if that is correct?

Does it jsut show the 4G symbol or the 4G with the small LTE next to it? If you have HSPA service, you will see 4G.
4G it shows, which in Belgium is HSPA+
