best tethering app - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I have upgraded to null 19 and my AT&T note 3 is stock. I tried foxfi first and it was painfully slow. I have open garden now and its faster but nothing will download from the play store. Takes too long. Is there a faster app?

Personally I've always just used the native Android tether in the Cyanogen ROM's. Stock roms are boring..

I don't think I'm ready to do that with my note 3. A little chicken. I was hoping that I could modify the watch enough without needing to mess with the phone. The watch will search the internet, go on the play store, but it never finishes downloading apps. And the other apps.like Google voice don't register the internet.

I had great success with EasyTether Pro, it's a bit pricey but it worked well when my Note 3 was stock. You have to get EasyTether Pro for your phone and EasyTether Tablet for the gear. I also needed the xposed wifi spoof hack in order to download things from the play store if I remember correctly

can these be sideloaded and work without null?

I have tried open garden and it is much faster than foxfi. I just can't download anything or get my google voice or calendar to work. However, open garden is free....

[Q] PdaNet Tablet (beta) android to android with bluetooth

Has anyone else tried this app?
Im on tnt lite 4.4 and when I connect my gtab freezes.
I had the app working for a couple minutes at most.
Ive tried different browsers, but nothing, next I might try a different rom
and see if that works.
I have to try and use this app because I dont have root on my mobile yet.
Edit: i changed my rom to G harmony v2.4.
It connects but force closes on me, better then freezing up my tablet though.
Works for about five minutes, sometimes it doesnt want to connect at first either.
Edit: using cyanogenmod 7.0.3 this app works.
Currently connected to my mobile.
No freezing or force closes.
Here is the market description
This is a tablet version of the extremely popular PdaNet software. It allows you to share the Internet access of an Android device with another Android device through Bluetooth. You should install this application on both the tablet and the phone. Then run client mode on a tablet and server mode on a phone. No rooting required. Connection speed should be very fast if your phone has good data service. PdaNet works by setting the web proxy server on your tablet and route web requests to a Bluetooth DUN service. That means only applications that use web connections will work. On Honeycomb devices PdaNet supports Browser, Gmail and Map. For Android 2.2/2.3 devices PdaNet only supports the Browser app. We understand this solution is not ideal but it is really the only way to tether an Android tablet due to OS restrictions. This application is completely free and we hope it will be useful to you.

Tethered via WiFi is just one option but I think the whole point was to do it via Bluetooth.
I can't say for sure if BT has a better/stronger connection than WiFi, but it's something I've been yearning to find out.

I probably wouldn't use this if I could tether over wifi though.
This app is beta and on froyo and gingerbread you can only get internet on
Your browser app.
But it's free and I need to root my mobile.
I've been traveling and dont have a computer right now.
I saw it in the market on my Evo, but NOT on my Gtablet. How can I get it from my not rooted Evo to my rooted Viewsonic GTablet?
Can you backup your apps on your phone?
should be able to put it on your sdcard, then transfer it to your gtablet and install.
Just tried it, it pairs but does not connect via bluetooth. I'm rooted as well. From my understanding android had widespread issues connecting via bluetooth as a server/client to another android device.
Using an Apple or Windows based phone I have no issues.

I don't suppose anyone knows if PDANet for iphone supports bluetooth? WIFI takes away WAYYYYY too much battery life.

Working reverse tether!

Ok, Ive been looking around these forums for a while and havent come across a working way to tether FROM you pc TO your tablet over wifi. I can do it over usb but the play store doesnt work and the bluetooth option isnt for me. I found a way to actually get wifi to work (at least for me) if thiere is a easier way please let me know
First for me I am using to wifi cards for this however it should work over Ethernet or hell even dial-up.
1.Whatever connection you are using to connect to the web allow it to share the connection.
2.Download this app WiFiHotspot creator or if you trust me here is a link to it http://jumbofiles.com/y0l9dv3pbh5x be aware that unless you go for a advance install it wants to install alot of bloatware, nothing malicious just annoying!!!!
3. Once its installed just run it, it's very self-explanatory.
I've noticed its not very fast but it gets the job done. Also it works for everything Ive tested it with. Play, Youtube, network games.
If its any help Im running Windows 7
Thanx guys
I use connectify it gets the job done very well. I also am running the comp off of wifi and re broadcasting wifi with the same card using it

Really. i always had trouble with connectify, i could surf the web but couldnt use it to download stuff from the play store. might have to dig around the advance options some more

Little help with the gear manager

Now before anyone jumps down my throat I've googled the hell out of my question and i cant find the solution to it.
I have a moto droid maxx this is my work phone so rooting or anything like that is not an option. The issue is after I upgraded to the latest version of android on my phone 4.4.4, gear manager stopped working. now my gear is rooted and running null_ and i had gear manager running with ATN on the previous version of android for my phone i believe i was using GM 1.6.something and after the last android update it stopped working it and ATN, so for a while now Ive been using the gear sms server and client app i found but i miss being able to use the other things that gear manager aloud me to do. so my question to anyone that can figure it out, is what do i need to do to get this functionality back? now im no noob to this kind of stuff Ive just hit a brick wall and cant seem to get anything to work now. and a little info i forgot is gm stopped working after the update so i uninstalled to do a reinstall and now it wont load up says install failed. now i went though the whole proses of tearing down gm and installing all the apps and gm addon that had it working before like in the nexus how to. and that used to work but not now. so i am at a loss... as much as i like my gear this is proving to be a head ache. and i know i will be switching to moto 360 when it finally comes out. but i hate owning useless tech. so any advice or links would be very much appreciated.
Hey. One thing you can do is put the Gear over to Tizen and just install the Gear Manager like usual. I had that setup working fine on my G2 unrooted and the majority of things worked fine. Never had a connection problem, just weather and s-voice didn't work.
Try it and see. If not, follow the guide to go back to Android and do everything from scratch. Good luck.

Nope. I just made sure that I uninstalled every Gear Manager component, reset the Gear(in Tizen), downloaded the latest Gear Manager and started the sync. I can't see what difference there'd be between Moto and LG in the process. That's all I ever did with my Gear. I never had Android on it so I don't know if there's a different way of doing things.
Good luck

[Q] USB reverse tether?

Im running the 400mb extreme debloat ROM and trying to do USB reverse tethering. I tried installing a few different applications and just ended up getting different trouble. One of them I needed to install two other applications, another kept force closing and a third kept saying it couldn't read my system.
Is there a way to enable it in the ROM itself? Are there any good apps? I remember reverse tether working for me on my s3.
Thanks
**After a few more hours of searching, I stumbled upon an old post that mentioned EasyTether. So far it seems to work. I'm not sure if I want to spend $10 on it right now though. Also not sure if root is required or not. (Didn't ask for root permissions so you can assume you don't need root.)
I love this rom and thats the only issue i have with that rom. I was using foxfi and had it working but after a little bit of downloading it stops your tether because of a data limitation written into the program. How does the easy tether work for you so far? Thanks

So far so good. I decided I would do the 2 hour trial with Pro and everything works smooth. (Buy it, use it for 2 hours, and refund if it wasn't what I needed).
The last thing I'm looking at is if it supports USB 3.0. Cause that would be much faster internet usage.

Snapdragon users: How are you surviving without root?

I'm coming from my Note4 which I specifically bought so that I could have a rooted phone. Making the switch back to a non-rooted phone has been frustrating so far to say the least. My main sticking points are:
Wireless file transfers w/ windows
adblocking
disabling loud volume alert
titanium backup
Wireless file transfers w/ windows
I hate MTP. And, I use MusicBee for music management. It allows you to transfer files wireless as long as you mount the wireless device as a virtual drive in windows. I've tried just about every protocol I could with wireless file transfers.
1. Samba servers
While this was my go to as root, but it seems like there isn't an app that can setup your phone as a samba server without root .
2. SSH
This seems to work fine as far as apps on addroid, but I wans't able to get it mounted as a virtual drive despite tinkering with win-sshfs. What a headache.
3. FTP
My current solution. I'm using on windows DriveMaker to mount the ftp network location as an actual network drive and not just an internet location (for some reason these two things are very different despite interfacing w/ them the same way in explorer). The server is where it gets weird to me though. Only one app actually allows me to write to the Note8 server: WiFi Pro FTP Server
I've tried: Ftp server Pro, FTPServer, Server Ultimate Pro to no avail. I can mount them as network locations and then as virtual drives, but throw an error when you try to do write to them. If anyone has any insight onto how WiFi Pro FTP Server is able to access both internal and external storage it would be appreciated. It seems WiFi Pro FTP Server uses a built in Nougat file explorer to choose your location, while the others have custom ones, which seems to make a difference.
4. WebDav
WebDav has the same issue as FTP, though I haven't found a magic app like WiFi Pro FTP Server for WebDav.
adblocking
I'm using block-this now. Seems to do the trick. Though the VPN notifcation is annoying. Is there a way to disable that?
disabling loud volume alert
My biggest UX gripe with TouchWiz quite honestly. I'm always plugging into my cars aux, and getting this useless notifcation that I have to interact with. Usually use an Xposed module to deal with this like Wanam.
titanium backup
Haven't found anything similar with this on non-roots, but let me know what you use.
What issues are you facing without root? How are you solving them? Do you have better solutions for any of the points I brought up?
I was thinking about whining about not being able to use Viper for eight or nine posts, then jumping off a bridge.
Ya know, if you spend a grand on a phone that has a dicey chance of being rooted, and you can't live your life without root.....
Em maybe read through the forums ?
Root is here and has been for a few days.
There is also twrp and a custom Rom which is already at V2.

The only things that I will miss about having root are ad blocking and being able to monitor wakelocks. I don't care about custom roms or kernels anymore, and haven't since the S3 days. I did always miss the ability to change up the way the phone looks, but Nova is fairly decent for that. I am still on a Note 4, but only had root on it for a short period of time before breaking it and losing it. When I had it, the main thing that I did was work out why my phone was always awake. There wasn't a whole lot of development for it.
For me, root just isn't as important as it was when I was on the Evo or S3. Those were both complete failures at battery life and root was almost a requirement to be able to make the phones last. Note 8 seems to have decent battery life.

There's no root for the Snapdragon version of the phone. Only Exgynos.
Well im surviving pretty damn good because the phone itself even unrooted is awesome. However its only been released a couple days and knowing everything we do about the snapdragon situation, obviously that will take a while to achieve root. So I know it will happen eventually so in the meantime I am going to not worry about it and enjoy the hell out of my phone.
I root only for tether and maybe certain customization's that come with a certain ROM. Luckily an answer for tether has been found that works, and I am ok with theme's for now.

Definitely a great phone. I think I may have found a soultion to my issue of file transferal using sshDroid and expanDrive.
I haven't had a real need for Root in quite a while as well. Since Samsung has gotten into giving us the ability to add themes, and I also use Nova, the themeing options are all I really look for now a days. Ad Blocking would be great, but not really necessary for me.
I came from the S7E on AT&T, the root method for it was not a real viable option for me, way too "unstable" was the feedback I was reading in threads, so I never even tried. I wont even be trying on my N8
I survive by installing the unbraded Samsung Galaxy Note 8 firmware, running BK Disabler, using Ablock Plus for Samsung browser and installing the Pixel Launcher. The battery life is phenomenal and I am not missing any features all while running a debloated rom..

Ya know, it's sacrilege to be on XDA forums and not want to root your phone. /snark/
I missed Viper4Andriod also custom Rom .
It's actually not that bad nowadays one of the main reasons I used to root my phones was for customisation battery life and performance but the Note 8 has all of that right out the box as far as ads go I simply pay to have the ads removed and for those annoying ass selfish apps that insist on having ads and no option to pay to have them removed I use Lucky Patcher no I don't feel bad about it, the only thing I do miss is having Titanium Backup
Root these days seems to be more trouble that it's worth. Things aren't as easy as they used to be and there seems to be more compromises that there were before, as well. I'm happy with my stock experience but I do miss TB. I guess that's the only thing I'm really missing. Otherwise things are pretty awesome on my end.
i would never own an unrooted phone.
NEVER
Ever since I discovered Adguard Pro, I have had no reason to root my current. I still have an old Note 4 and Note Edge rooted to run Adaway but Adguard Pro requires no root to block ads in apps.
I miss free Wireless hotspot on OG unlimited plan, Verizon branded phone. I haven't tried the workaround yet to see if it works.
