N7000 hang on Samsung logo, can i still backup all data inside? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

dear all...
my Note N7000 has never been restarted for a long time and i never pull the battery out, and today because i need to take out the simcard, i turn off and pull out the battery, afterwards it just turn ON and halt/hang at Samsung logo, i waited for hours and it still can't boot up and access the menu...
i never root the phone, is there any chance that i can root, and somehow gain access to backup all the stuffs i had inside? phonebook, sms, calendar, note, and the internal storage photos, etc...
thanks

You need to know which rom version you have been running, jb or ics. Then need to be able to boot into recovery. Then you need to have an sdcard so that you can load files on it using PC. If all yes, then you can download and put a suitable PhilZ kernel version, zip file matching your rom, into the sdcard. Then you can use stock recovery to flash that PhilZ kernel. Then you have a good chance to get your phobe working normally again. Else, more actions will be needed. Still, you should also read some sticky threads to learn how to manage custom rom, root,etc...

i'm a new on this so i need a guidance step by step....
i don't have to flash cwm recovery? just use original recovery can do the repair? now i'm on ICS, i already flash it to 4.1.2 and the menu still won't open up, i flash it back to 4.0.4 using odin, and still hang on samsung logo, i did this because i have another Note with 4.0.4 and i flash it to 4.1.2 the data inside the phone is still intact so i guess flashing it to another version did not touch the data section of the phone...
any suggestions to revive this set without factory reset using recovery ? actually i need the addressbook, sms, notes, besides the data on emmc...

Help on Entering Recovery and Flashing Please?

Okay .... I have sucessfully rooted the wife's original Verizon Moto Droid and I have installed CWM via ROM Manager. I have performed a backup of her current ROM.
From the looks of things here, I will just load the ROM I want to flash onto her sd card and then flash it via ROM Manager. Is this correct? If it fails half way through the flash, can I still enter CWM via the key sequence to re-flash/restore the phone to its original state using the backup on the card from ROM Manager?
I gave her this phone when I bought my Samsung Droid Charge when it came out back last March. I can flash ROMs & Kernels on that phone all day long but the Moto Droid is an entirely different animal. I want to be sure of my fail-safes before I flash anything here.
Thanx In Advance for Your Help
Okay ... cwm just didn't take the first time I flashed it. I am now able to enter CWM from a powered off state.
[Q] If I flash a rom and it doesn't take half way through the flash, will I still be able to enter cwm and install the backup of her current rom? That ROM is not in a zip format on the sd card. It is a tar file and the other components in a folder.
I want to be sure I can recover the phone if I experience a bad flash before I attempt anything. Remember, this is my WIFE'S phone !!! LOL
Any help appreciated.
Edit: Also, I installed RSD lite on my computer but when I open it and hook the phone up, it doesn't see the phone. At least, from what I can tell it doesn't. I click 'show' device and nothing happens. Is this a flashing tool or do I put the ROM on sd card and flash via rom manager? And the fail-safe !! Gotta have the fail-safe !!!

[Q] Stuck on Samsung logo after a restart (did not flash)

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but I've been looking around the forums and a lot of information/posts from people seem to conflict or the information is only valid for X kernel or Y kernel etc and it can still be a little overwhelming even after lots of nice people have posted guides.
I bought a German Note about a month ago and upgraded to 4.0.3 through the devices own update method (I have not flashed any ROMs on this device), leaving me on XX-LPY. I have since rooted the device, and did not perform any kinds of wipes doing this, this was the only time I even used CWM, I havent booted into CWM since (or used any of the normal recovery features).
The device has been working fine for around a week, I've restarted it several times without issue. However today after restarting it gets stuck on the Samsung logo and will not boot properly. The only thing I have used root for is to uninstall Kies and the SNS Push stuff (which seemed to save me a lot of battery life) and install ad-free android. I also installed the Carbon Tweaks app and applied the Carbon Booster stuff along with the Beats Audio and Bravia Engine stuff (nothing else).
I am able to get into recovery mode however I seem to be unable to put it into download mode (Edit: finally got it to do it once, wont do it every time though) so I have a few questions:
Can anyone tell me if its ruined or why its doing this?
Is it safe to just factory reset/wipe cache through normal android recovery (not CWM?).
Is it safe to try to flash another ROM through CWM (I'm on XX-LPY) and if so which one is safe for me to flash?
Is it safe to try to flash through Odin and if so which ROM should I flash?
I really dont care about the data on it or wiping it w/e. I just dont want to turn it into a paperweight if I can help it.
Thanks
Edit: Also if it makes any difference, this is the method I used to root the device:

Nope, don't go around flashing stuff with CWM on that device. Also, you can't wipe as that may trigger the MMC_CAP_ERASE causing superbrick.Judging by what you say you've done, I'd say I don't know why it happened but it isn't ruined.
You can try to flash a stock GB rom of your country by following dr.ketan's guide in the dev section and then rooting it (if you want).Alternatively, you could just take it to a Samsung service center as there is no yellow triangle. But I'd try to flash the GB rom as flashing a stock kernel via PC Odin doesn't increase the flash counter.

Nandroid backup restore not working Philz 6.0.15

I might lose all contacts :crying: There is 290+ of them. I'm noob in this stuff and i need help!!
So before i was going to flash a rom i did a nandroid backup and i did restore (CMW Touch PhilZ 6.0.15). The same backup i just created to see if it works ( i don't know why). It was restoring files like normal ( about 10 mins). Then i restarted the phone. Samsung logo kept glowing about 10 mins and more but Galaxy Note didn't show homescreen. What it that? Bootloop? And then i tried flashing Slim rom 2.6v and it changed my recovery to CMW 5.5 or something similar with smaller touch buttons and smaller selection rows. Never experienced such things with S3. flashed about 15-20 roms and recovery was never changed. Why did rom change phone's recovery on my Note? But rom worked (homescreen, menus and etc as it should). Then i tried to do restore again. Did latest restore same wich i tried restoring before flashing (in that 5.5v wich was installed by new rom). Got error. Restarted. And my installed recovery 6.0.15 by PhilZ appeared again? Why this happened? Why doesn't this happen on S3 ( s3 always has same recovery as i flashed 10+ typed of different roms or is just this one?) So tried to restore latest point again. It was restoring about 10 mins like normal restore in time. But after restart it could not properly boot and show homescreen. Just showed Samsung glowing logo and phone was warm like CPU would be on load.
Btw. I have almost one month old backups too. 2 of them and they do the same thing after restore. Just glowind samsung logo. As i can remember ( not guaranteeing ) i restored from one of those backups because i was flashing a custom rom and wanted to go back.
Is it possible to get CONTACTS back from that backup? System settings? I will lose sooo much time without those contacs!!! :crying: Please help me!
What tools do i need to get back my stuff?
If there will be correct answer more than one person. The first one will get this gift. I will be back in about 10 hours.\
Hello.
Your contacts are stored here data.ext4.tar\data\data\com.android.providers.contacts\databases\ with *.db extension
Try to extract them and replace.

Problem is that my backups are 20mb. And one main backup with lots lots of folders. That's is how 6,0,15 recovery is made? Yes? And there is no tar file wich i could open with winrar.
Omg.. Just ultima flashed rom with that 5,5v recovery from Slim rom and now i can't even see samsung boot glowind logo. But works in download mode. What should i flash now!?
I'm going to sleep. Hope no nightmares about phones lol...
That's because you used .dup format to backup, so the backup folder is around 20MB as you said and blobs folder is around 800MB to 2GB, depends what ROM you used.
None of yours backup work?

download alliance ROM v2.1 resurection and use odin to flash it. Your phone will be back then, reboot recovery wipe cache dalvik and data, reboot. Download any xxls2 rom and flash it try to restore your data using titanium extract from nandroid.

[Q] Stuck at samsung logo

I have a N7000 that got stuck at Samsung logo without any sort of modification of firmware or similar. I suspect it had 4.1.2 but I can't be 100% sure. First I tried to wipe cache from recovery menu then I tried to flash it with 4.1.2 using Odin without any success. After reboot it got stuck on starting apps just after it had optimized all the apps for 4.1.2. After another boot it's still stuck at Samsung logo. The thing is that I have a lot of pictures of my children that I want to save if possible. What do you recommend, trying an old GB ROM? As saw a special ROM for another phone that wiped everything but data. Is there something similar to N7000?
You may need to format data to get the phone to boot up again. Download philz kernel for JB and flash it from recovery. Then boot onto recovery again and you should see cwm. Then choose wipe data. This will delete all user apps and it's data but will not delete pictures and videos on your internal storage. Then reboot. If phone still doesn't boot then you may need to flash is one more time.

I flashed a GB rom with Odin but got nothing I could use. Didn't get past the setup. Then I flashed 4.1.2 again and could actually get past the samsung logo. It's extremly instable though, crashing all the time. Could copy a single file in the root folder with usb but as soon as I try open another folder it crashes. Is there something I could do to make it more stable? Could philz help? Perhaps the filsystem is messed up....
You need to do a factory reset.

I gradually shut down services and features and uninstalled apps (especially service based ones) until it was stable enough for me to copy files through usb. Success
Now I just need to back contacts etc before I can do a proper wipe and reinstall 4.1.2. Is there a especially good app for it? And if that fails, are the contact info/address book accessable through the file system?
Usually synced with Google but you could make a nandorid back from recovery and then one you have the new ROM installed, use titanium backup to extract app data of contacts and contacts storage using "extract from nandroid backup" functionality.

[Q][HELP] Recover photos / install ROM

Hi everyone. This is my first post and I must say that I am very newbie, so any help would be very thankful
I have a note GT-N7000 stuck in the samsung logo with leds of menu and return lighted up. What I want is to recover photos and other stuff saved in /sdcard partition. After been reading a lot of posts and tutorials in the forum, I am going to try with the steps given in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168448. --> basically, enter recovery mode, flash with PhilZ recovery, mount as USB. Am I correct? is there any other way to recover data from sdcard? if I do a factory reset will the photos be still there?
Hoping that this works, then I think that I would have an ICS kernel and JB installed, so the phone should not boot up. And here is where I´m completely lost. What and most importantly, how should I do? install an official ROM via ODIN? must I take something important into acount doing this? install a custom ROM? I read that to do this I must be root...
So in resume I have:
- A galaxy note stuck in samsung logo and I want to recover photos fron sdcard
- I think that It has official JB installed. I can access to recovery and download mode
- I´m going to install philz recovery and mount as USB to recover the data
- What and should I do next?
Thanks in advance.
That'll be fine, you will be able to obtain your photos that way. If you perform a factory reset/data wipe in Philz recovery then you won't loose any of your pictures. You'll only loose data to apps, sms messages, call logs, system settings et cetera. If however you perform a factory reset/data wipe in the stock recovery that you have now then it will also format the internal memory (photos, downloads, films, music).
Once you have backed up all the files you want, do the following:
In Philz recovery format /system /data /preload
You now have the option to flash a custom ROM (just follow the ROMs instructions).
If you want a stock ROM then do this:
Go to advanced, reboot to download mode
Use Odin to reflash JB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
me too faced a same problem
dont worry you ate on the right way
i think its better to flash a custom rom instead of buggy stock rom
check out your roms here
