Its an USB JIG

For soft bricks rather than hard bricks?
Yes. This video purports to show it working on a completely hard-bricked device.
But the XDA thread on USB jigs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402286) suggests it only works on softbricks:
"If you soft brick your phone, you can force into download mode using USB jig and reflash new kernel or ROM. As far as i concern, there are few ways to force into download mode, however this is the most simple way to get into it. If USB jig doesn't work, i don't think other method will work either.
"If your phone is hard brick, i don't think this will work."
But further down that thread someone claims it /will/ work on hard bricks... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402286&page=22)
So I'm not sure...

This.
I had the same issue and thought I had bricked it... If you plug the USB cable into the computer but not into the phone, then pull the battery out of the back, wait 30 seconds, put the battery back in and put the cover on, hold down both buttons at the same time and while holding them, stick the micro part of the SD cable into the phone, it boots into download mode.
tried both these, and a couple other combos i've found and nothing works.

Some people find it easier to explain their own problems than to read through others' problems to determine their fix. If you don't have the desire to help me out, then don't post in this thread. Your thoughts on how this forum could be improved aren't contributing to the fix of my phone so why bother?
I have the same problem. JIG doesn't help at all. BTW, I made two cable and tested on a working captivate. the JIG cable does work. It's just not working on the complete-bricked phone.
I tried any method I could find on the forum and nothing works. I don't even know how a successful flash (reported by ODIN) and the phone reboot itself and then complete dead after that.
so if I filed a claim for insurance no one be the wiser about me having unauthorized software on my phone?

If your phone shows absolutely no sign of life whatsoever, then something may have killed the hardware. You didn't say what you did to cause the hard bricking. Were you flashing a ROM?

[Q] difference with semi brick and hard brick??

im pretty confuse of these two terms here, semi and hard bricks. for what i know semi brick is when you see the phone--->pc thingy on your phone after a flash failure. and can be resolve by a JIG or tricks to get into download mode.
but what about HARD BRICKS?? can they be resolve with a JIG or tricks? what are the symptoms of hard brick phones? is there anyone from the forum that could not enter download mode with the use of JIG or tricks?
pls answer the following. it will help me with my phone before flashing.
Hard brick is just like soft brick, but you cant go download or recovery menu, and you have to send it to shop where you bought it.

You cant use JIG if your phone is hard bricked.
And, well your phone bricks if you flash wrong file with odin (sometimes) or wrong .zip
IN XDA/SGS 1 bricked means phone wont boot may be described as soft brick as its probably recoverable . Only one culprit in a soft bricked phone the user has not bothered to read/follow instructions .
Recovery is usually via download mode /jig and flash a stock rom .
Hardbricked dead never ever recover nothing the user can do combination of above or blown hardware .

I guess the guy recently on the Q&A forum had who did a fatal mistake on flashing (see attachment).
Semi bricks seem to happen far more often but from what I read here it doesn't really matter much on the SGS. I'm way no expert but it sounds you gotta mess up big time to hard brick it or be extremely unlucky when flashing boot loaders or something (correct me if I'm wrong).
Hard bricked phones have to be sent in for repair afaik. There are also some guys trying to figure out a different kind of cable to get into some more advanced service mode or so for hard bricks (?).
Anyways, what to do when you semi brick? Usually go to download or recovery mode and flash again.
My very first flash was about enabling these modes (my SGS came without them) so I had neither mode and semi bricked (better use direct USB). Luckily, thanks to all the info on XDA I knew I'd be screwed if things go wrong so I bought myself a JIG dongle off Ebay prior and thus could plug it in, get into download mode and re-flash, all fixed.

Do USB Jigs work with SGM?

http://www.ebay.in/itm/UNBrick-Sams...?pt=IN_Mobile_Accessories&hash=item415d3ece49
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/unbric...msung-t959-i9000-i897-m110s-i8700-i9100-93514
Do these products work for the SGM? I saw somebody mentioning a jig to recover bricked phone somewhere here (related to SGM), but my request for clarification was not answered. Hence, creating this thread.
What software is required to use them?
And anybody got heimdall to work?
1.- Remove both the SIM card and de microSD card.
2.- KEEP YOUR BATTERY REMOVED
3.- Apply the Download-mode button combination (known by you all)
4.- WHILE HOLDING THE COMBINATION, insert the battery, and keep the buttons pressed untill you get the download mode.
5.- Flash your phone with a valid firmware through Odin (Preferebly, have Odin prepared before doing this trick)
i saw many people posting this trick n it worked for galaxy series n sgm too..if it is hard bricked then also..i dont think this device jig is required to unbrick,,,.
u r asking of software it is ODIN v4.38 download it by searching on google
Yes i confirm , work but no with hardware bricked SGM (black screen)

Thanks for this info. By "black screen", I hope you mean that the phone had neither download mode, nor battery charging sign??
Which jig did you use?
Can you describe the method or provide links?
In my case By "black screen", I mean that once i nstalled ROM MANAGER my phone does not start and shows only black screen and the phone had neither download mode, nor battery charging sign, in this case jig does not help.
---------- Post added at 10:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:51 PM ----------
But when I downgread my phone he died again, then I used my hand-made jig and after restart my phone enter in downlosd mode. I used this method - search this in google - How I did: Restore soft-bricked Samsung Galaxy I9000. But I guess you can use the link which I will send a P.M
Were you able to bring back to life your galaxy mini? I'm in the same situation (black screen due to ram manager) but my home made jig doesn't work. (Although it works with galaxys and galaxy s2).
Any idea or suggestion?

I managed to return my phone to my provider cervice , in this case it is the only solution for our phone. There told me that they changed the motherboard to fix it.
yeah it works depending on how your phone is bricked, mines really really hard bricked, no download mode, no charging ****, and odin nor doesnt recognize it, the only option is to surrender it to the carrier u bought it from
Hmm, many had problems with ROM Manager as I could see, and I guess its the reason for bricking. I'm never gonna use it anyways !!
Btw, I'm concerned about how the Service Center unbricks our device ?
We can't do that manually ?
I understand if its a hardware bricked stage, then no other option rather than handing the device to them.

search google for for jtag. You need a jtag jig, which connects directly to the mother board (and not the usb jig). There is one available, but is real expensive, afaik.
thank you very much
confirmed, my usb jig , which works with i9000 doesn't work with my wife's SGM...
Yes it works. I Tested it myself.
But only on soft bricks not on hard bricks.
I can give you a video if you want just pm me. ^_^
With the SGM, you do not need a jig if it is only a soft brick. As long as you can enter download mode, ODIN works.

Actually, there might still be hope, USB Jig works, you can make one by stripping the USB cord's end and connect 3 100k ohms resistors on two points, I can post photos if you want.
If your bootloader is already damaged by a bad flash, just hope your factory download mode's partition isn't also damage. If not, then the jig will work.
Also if anybody would like, here's my thread on how to flash stock ROMs 100% safe.

Otherwise, it seemed that Sar17 can help with his firsthand experience since he has just revived his hardbrick Note using a combination of several methods including Jtag and and repartition.

thanks for the reply... but i am still confused ... is it bricked or some other problem?
I guess whatever the cause does not matter much, still the same problem of a hard brick which could not even turn on, nothing. The choice to fix are below:
1. use a jig to get it start into download mod. Then odin stock rom or repartition using a custom PIT file if odin get stuck somewhere (because of partition damage by emmc bug kernel).
2. if jig does not work then need a Jtag to fix it. In case there is also partition damage jtag alone will not work, and will need also repartition. That is the case of Sar17.
That are the only ways that I know can help revived it (beside motherboard replace). Hope you can figure out or Sar17 can help you with more details. cheers.

can u explain how to use jig or jtag... i will be very thankful to u
This is how to use a Jig:
- Turn off your phone and pull out the battery
- Just put the battery back and don't turn it on
- Plug the Jig into the micro USB port on the phone
- After about 2 seconds, you can see the yellow download mode logo on the screen.
- Unplug the module
- Connect your phone with USB cable to computer and then flash your phone via odin.
You can buy it online very cheap.
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/unbric...msung-t959-i9000-i897-m110s-i8700-i9100-93514
It does not list N7000 but will work since some people in xda have tried.
About Jtag it will cost more and more complicated to use. I do not have much info so you will need to search google.
Also remember to send Sar17 a private message. I guess he can help with Jtag.
Cheers.

[Q] Samung Galaxy S advance - Hard bricked/Fully bricked

Hello Experts,
I am a bit hesitant to post this. But I searched the forum and internet, but couldn't find an answer. Please help if you can.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance - I9070P model. I had android 2.3.6 and I tried to upgrade to 4.1.2 using ODIN. It loaded successfully. But My phone is not turning on. Not even the yellow exclamatory Icon. It is just as good as brick. May i call it as a hard brick?
If yes, will a USB JIG help on a hard brick? Or does it help only on a soft brick.

Yes I must have did that. I9070 JB on I9070P. I just ordered a jig online. I hope that sets my device into download mode.
I was worried, one of the mobiletechvideos on youtube showed sometimes a hard brick cant be fixed with a JIG. They showed a complex way (using some cables, JTAG... some techy stuff) to fix it. That was the reason for my post.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I will update this post after my experiment.
Flashing I9070 firmware on P version could not completely brick it. I once flashed I9100 firmware on my friends I9100G and i got it back by putting it into download mode and flashing G firmware with odin. I think the screen wasnt even turned on, try to put it into download mode and if it vibrates and odin sees it, you can restore it.
Unfortunately. Even with Usb jig, my phone is not turning. Now I doubt if it has anything to do with battery. I am not sure if myphone's batttry is charging when I put it to charger

Maybe some expert can experiment writing a generic boot code for Samsung galaxy to boot from external sd card so that odin can detect the bricked phone. like booting a PC from bootable CD of Floppy and then can flash the phone

Sorry but when you can´t get into recovery mode via Jig or keys you are still in big trouble...
there is just one opportunity for you...when you are able to flash a new bootloader via riffbox and on your pc (telnet) you can bring your phone back to life...this is a heavy method, but also a possibility!
:good:
Edit: I forget to say one thing regarding the Jig, before buying or building one!
The Jig is just the same way how the key combination keys on your device. It´s only because of another voltage on your accumulator, which leads to enter the recovery mode. (CWM/TWRP/STOCK)!

I know it is hard bricked, I read a lot before making my post, can be un-bricked by jtag/riftbox, but it is expensive for such old phone, maybe good for some sd card booting experiments in case it is possible and if some expert can write a boot software.
