I unplug the power to my CC after each use. More often than not when I power it up to use again it won't connect to my network without a power down and re-set up with my laptop. Any suggestions? Running eureka rom with netgear wndr4300 router.

How long do you give it after boot up? Mine usually "misses" the first attempt to reconnect to my Netgear WNDR4500, but it'll connect on the second attempt (a few minutes afterward)
I turn it on and I see it connect to my network on the screen. It then disconnects itself very shortly after. This is when I have to reset it back up.

Interesting.
First I'd try using the HDMI extender if you aren't using it already - TVs have a lot of components that can block WiFi signal.
How far is your router from the Chromecast?
I appreciate the help. It is about 20 feet away and I am using the extender. I bought the router a month ago and that's when my issues started. Previously I had an older netgear router with no issues except range issues.

Strange. Is your router on/behind/near metal or circuit-laden devices?
Also, how it is oriented? Mine is standing upright on the stand, but it's also only 2 feet away from my main Chromecast, and just behind the wall of the other Chromecast (which is actually been problematic for me lately since the other TV is getting interference from the WiFi AP)

So my PC is connected to my router by Ethernet cable. I can cast my chrome tabs and watch video play smooth with no issues. If i use my laptop that has similar specs as my pc and i connect via wifi, video will play very choppy on my tv. I have even tried it right next to my router to ensure the highest speed. A friend of mine is having the same issue with his computer which is also connected over wifi. Even at the lowest video settings its still choppy. Is this a known issue with trying to cast your tab over wifi or am I missing something?

I'm guess that if your router is not an "N" router (802.11n), it's probably having a hard time taking the stream from your laptop then sending it back to the Chromecast (I could be wrong). I have an N rounter and can stream wirelesly from my desktop to the chromecast with little to no stutter.
Also, make sure your chromecast has a good wifi signal. I had to use the included HDMI extender to give mine a little extra boost in signal.
Instead of telling us it's similar specs, what are the actual specs?

Yes my router is a "N". I have a Cisco E4200V2 which is a pretty good router.

My chromecast doesn't move and it has enough wifi signal to stream when using the ethernet connected computer so it should have the wifi signal. How would it be the tv? It works fine with my desktop.
Wireless connection will always be less reliable than a wired connection. I also doubt that your laptop has the same specs as your desktop in reality. Also, keep in mind that the tab/screen casting feature is still under development and not entirely reliable.

Yea i am hoping that when it comes out of beta it will be better over wifi. my pc (6 years old) is has a core 2 quad and it runs perfectly. My friend has a less than 1 year old mac that is quad core and has the issue over wifi. Theirs no way his 1 year old mac is not strong enough to support chromecast. I was ready to say "oh well it doesn't work over wifi smoothly" however it seems some people on here are claiming it should.

Even with good N router, you still need to setup right
For example use only G and N mix better yet N only
Set router to use 40MHz instead of 20Mhz
Use WPA2 AES for security instead of something else
There are tons of optimization that you can do to the network.
Best way is to hack your router firmware and replace it with DDWrt
There is a large community full of people over at DDWrt that know their wireless stuff.
I have a D link router cheap but hack with DDWrt and I am streaming ok

I got my Chromecast today, I'm not sure why i bought it already as i live in Sweden and i couldn't even get the app from Playstore.
But to my problem. My Chromecast is plugged in the TV. I get the bootscreen on the TV and I see my chromecast id.
In the app on my phone, I see the Chromecast and I can click it to connect to it. It disables the Wifi for a second or two and then turns it on again. I wait for a few seconds and then this pops up:
"Could not connect to your Chromecast. Make sure your Chromecast is nearby." - It's barely a meter behind me.. and I've tried to have the phone just next to it, no difference.
I've tried to factory reset it. Unplug and replug. Reconnected to the wifi on my phone.
The router is brand new and a good one at that. I have a hard time believing that the issue lies within the Router. It's a Asus RT-N65U.
It's kind of dumb as well that one has to go to random forums to get help. Google doesn't even put a contact form anywhere on their Chromecast page.

The setup process doesn't involve your router or home network at all. The issue is either with your phone or the Chromecast itself. Try running the setup from a different device (I believe you can do it from a computer). If that doesn't work, the Chromecast is probably faulty.

Got it set up now. Used a laptop to set it up. Thanks for the help.
I hope the forum can help. I have read FAQ and some 5 pages of topics without finding anything.
My Chromecast keeps losing its connection to my WiFi when CC is not in use. Standard routine goes like this:
When deciding to use the CC, I always find that it is not connected to my WiFi, even though the Chromecast is always AC connected.
I try rebooting the CC (by unplugging the power and plugging it in again)
Observing that the CC does not pick up the WiFi, I reset the WiFi router
When that does not cut it, I repeat step 2, and then I am on.
Sometimes I even need to repeat 2-4 to succeed.
After using the CC, some time later (minutes? hours?), the process needs to be redone.
But once connected and casting, the connection is flawless!
By coincidence, my ISP sent me a new router whilst I was troubleshooting these problems, but even switching hardware has not helped.
My current router is a MediaAccess TG788vn v2, but as indicated, I suspect it is not the problem.
It is set to the recommended 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n by default, and since it works on-and-off, I suspect it is not a channel issue either?
Thanks for any inputs.

Oh, a Thomson router... (I used to work with some of those folks).
Sometimes one of my CC's drops off for a bit (I can tell by the blinking white LED) then reconnects shortly afterward.
I've never had it disconnect while in use though.
Are you using the HDMI extender? If not, try that.
Also check your TV for any CEC (aka Simplink, AnyNet+, Bravia Link) settings to shut off the device when the TV is turned off. I don't think it shouldn't affect Chromecast, but still good to check.
If your router has any power-saving functions, try disabling those too - maybe it's dropping the transmit power when idle enough that CC loses it. I couldn't find the manual in a quick search.

Thanks for quick inputs!
Tried the HDMI extender to no avail.
My TV is a 2009 Panasonic TH-42PX80. It appears that it has some CEC features, but I have a hard time finding the exact setting in the menu. Turned off a few "auto off" things though, without any benefits.
I hadn't the time to tweak any router power-saving features yesterday, will look in to it today.
I sure hope someone has seen and solved this one before, despite not seeing it in FAQs ...
Also check your router setting for DHCP and see if your Client Lease time is set too low.
DHCP should not expire more than once a day. 1440 Minutes (once a day) is usually default on most routers but sometimes it gets set to much less and it could be that it's losing connection after casting because the DHCP expired but couldn't renew while it was casting so once streaming is done it renews and reconnects.
Longshot though of that being your actual problem...
Resolved.. I think! A friend with another CC strongly recommended experimenting with the channels. I downloaded inSSIDer app and found a better channel.
Tonight I had several flawless connections.
I think Google's official troubleshooting on this could be more precise. Here's to hoping it is picked up or other users at least stumbles on this thread.
Thanks for all inputs.
I had the same issue, ended up RMAing it...Thing just wouldn't stay connected. New one never has the issue...
I have a ton of devices connected to my router and none of them have any issues. My Chromecast on the other hand randomly loses WiFi connection and also randomly shuts down when I'm watching long videos on my TV. Is there a setting I have to change in my router to prevent my router from losing wifi connection and randomly rebooting itself? This doesn't happen when I'm watching music videos that are usually 2-3 mins long but it does happen with long videos.

Losing WiFi connection I could understand, but rebooting is highly unusual.
Could be overheating. Try using an HDMI extension to move the Chromecast farther away from the TV.

Yep if I am betting money I put it on Heat being the cause!
could be power supply
I used to plug mine into a usb socket on my cable box and it did exactly what you are describing. I then switched to plugging it into a wall wart and now it runs flawlessly. i've run numberous youtube videos as well as streaming music for hours over plex. I would say it's not getting enough power from whatever source you have it plugged into.
hope this helps
cant download

Need help
I'm trying to get my stock Pixel to screen cast reliably to a Chromecast in my car. I've tried with a wi-fi hotspot and this seemed to drop out randomly which wasn't helpful whilst driving and then other times it wouldn't see an internet connection through it despite the phone being online.
So I've gone down the road of using a raspberry pi as a portable hotspot and rooting a Chromecast. This is more reliable once connected however the process of connecting is a bit tricky. At the moment I have to give the Chromecast an internet connection through a USB tether to the pi then connect to the wi-fi and cast screen. Eventually disconnecting the tether and the phone falls back to cell data whilst still casting the screen. My question is can I stop a rooted Chromecast with Eureka ROM needing an internet connection to be able to receive screen casts? I must note for some reason it only needs to be connected once after boot after that it will still be able to cast to despite complaining of no internet connection. Which is different to what a non rooted Cc did so it's like it's almost there but not quite.

I think the first thing to realize is, that the chromecast is not primarily intended as a screen mirror receiver. [...] There are great miracast receivers that do basically what you want.

@Morphy99 - You should try the Miracast receiver from Microsoft (Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2). Works great with my Nexus 7 (2013) on Android 6 and the app "SecondScreen" for screen ratio correction! :good:
Yes I realise this unfortunately with the Pixel unrooted miracast is not possible. Another reason I should have gone Samsung. Ive got a cheap ez cast dongle coming which hopefully will do it, although I'm sceptical at the minute. I'll update you if it works.
