I Googled this and can't find the answer. Is it moto directly or is it updated at the same time a regular verizon moto x is updated?

Verizon will approve it while Motorola will make the update. Don't confuse a Developer Edition with a GPE (Google Phone Experience) or a Nexus device.
A Verizon DE will see the update the same time the Verizon retail model does.

Based on the speed of the 4.4 update, I'm not too concerned. I'm sure it's right around the corner.

What do we know about unlocking the bootloader? Will it be possible? If it is possible how easy it would it be.. if this has been addressed I missed it

I'd say "not high." The HTC One wasn't supposed to be unlockable with their Dev site on att but it was. Maybe this will slip through the cracks.

As with previous HTC devices, they are unlockable on HTC Dev until a day or two before street date. The AT&T and Verizon models will be locked, and will have a Developer Edition. This was already confirmed by Mr. Punit on Google+.

They were definitely still unlockable a while after street date. Hell they may still be. I haven't checked.

Sorry i am just starting to use android and I'm kind of a noob. I used an iPhone before I got my moto x. I love the phone but I really want to root it. So I was wondering Would it be possible to unlock the boot loader in the future without using motorolas unlock tool basically to bypass the restrictions placed by att.
Thanks in advance for the answer to my noob question.

Until an exploit is found, no.
How long does that usually take

Might be never. Moto locks down harder than apple

Not applicable to Moto X since it is not sold by tmobile stores or tmobile online. Basically it's an unlocked moto x sold directly by Motorola with tmobile bands which is a good thing since we don't get any tmobile crap or logos.
I currently have the S4 and was fortunate to order a moto x today with their discount. It should come in a few weeks. In the meantime, I currently tether with my rooted S4. What options do you recommend to tether with kit Kat? Paid app recommendation? Root?
Thanks in advance!

What carrier are you on? Which Moto X did you order?
If you have the particular combination of ordering the XT1053 (T-Mobile or unlocked model) and use AT&T for a carrier you don't need to root to tether. It works natively. The phone doesn't do the AT&T entitlement check.

If you are in a different combination of carrier or model you will probably need to root to be able to tether. Do this and you can use the native tethering solution:

Hey if i buy the Moto X from motorola uk will the bootloader be unlocked out of the box and is it the pure edition? Thanks guys
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
It probably won't come unlocked, but you can unlock it easily at the cost of losing your warranty.
Ok, and will it be what people call a pure edition?
