I'm considering to root my latest 2.254 C5303. Here and there on forums somebody mentioned that if you root, something stops working, etc.
After root:
- do all functions work as before root?
- if I delete some app from /system, can i flash with standard PC companion the future ftf package?
- update via OTA?
After BL unlock:
- I loose Bravia engine
- GPS gets worse?
- .... does not work ?
- with backup of TA, i can get it back to "stock" with Bravia engine (for repair..)
Rooting will not affect phone and yes you can still use PC companion or sus to restore phone off you delete files from system. Or better still once you root install clock work mod or cwm for short then you can backup your system and files data etc face to SD card and then restore this of you mess something up.
Yes boot loader unlock will lose your DRM keys and bravia 2 engine, if you back up ta then unlock your boot loader you will have keys if you need to relock and restore keys.
Unlocking boot loader will void your warranty.
But once relocked and ta and DRM restored Sony centre will repair if needed.

How do I check if my DRM keys are still there?
From what I can see one my phone, the X-Reality is working fine on my videos and pics, also I am able to download music info.
This is after unlocking bootloader from a partially rooted .290 and flashing CWM Recovery+root and 136 firmware.

Are you saying on .136 they fix also the features like X-Reality, Bionz and Bravia? This will be great.

If you have unlocked bootloader...why would you have a partial root ?!!
are you sure that the bootloader is unlocked?
U seem to be on the stock kernel..which is resonsible for the x-reality and Bionz stuff

..but even on Stock will not work that stuff without DRM keys, to me just weird.

Partial root on .290 was because I did the root .534 then update via OTA to .290
Sick of partial root as it did not allow me to edit the build.prop or other system files.
So decided easiest way was to unlock bootloader on .290 and then flash stock .136 firmware (singapore Singtel) with the CWM kernel from doomlordz. actually I did restore my TA backup from .290 and soft-brick phone so reflash firmware to startup, then unlock bootloader again.. but second time I did not let the phone reboot after unlock bootloader the second time, just disconnect from USB and reconnect again in fastboot mode. Maybe thats why didnt give it a chance to wipe the DRM keys away?
I am puzzled also as I managed to download music info via Wifi and also option to tick/untick X-reality engine is still there.

Take a screen shot with X reality on and off. Compare them in gallery. The option to check and uncheck x reality will be there in locked or unlocked bootloader but it wont work on custom kernel. I wish I was wrong.
Interesting, I have my Z1 unlocked/rooted, I think that X-Reality is working (enabled in Display Settings) but how do I know if the Bionz and/or DRM keys are present and functional? Running iHacker 2.1 ROM.
BTW, I had downgraded to unlock (and backup up TA partition) and then flashed iHackers based on .290 based iHackers.
opposite of urs !! my X-reality was working on .290 UL
for me X-reality was working well on .290 UL without DRM keys .. then I relocked my phone and sure that makes my phone not booting So I updated my xpeira via pc companion to .136 and I totally lost X-Reality effect on both of videos and photos !! ...
after that I followed the steps on this thread :

so I restored my X-Reality but it's working only on photos now.. Not working on movies like .290 before and I'm sure about that

regarding x reality after bootloader unlock
hi guys..i have unlocked my bootloader on xperia z1 without TA backup and i have lost DRM keys.
after that X reality stopped working..but i found a new patch that makes Xreality work without TA

i was recently using xperia zr but today i have buyed xperia z ........i have unlocked bootloader of xperia zr from official.
so my question is:
1) If i unlocked the bootloader of xperia z with TA backup ....and if i suffer from any issue ........i restore the TA backup and then i go to service center.......then will the recognize that i have unlocked the bootloader and will they void my warrenty?
2)Is they having a data of phone IMEI that this particular device has unlocked bootloader as we have unlock the bootloader from official site. and will they void warrenty till that date??

sony do not have the data of the phones unlocked unofficially. so if you brick your phone you can relock the bootloader with TA partition and DRM keys so that you can flash stock firmware using flashtool ( or repair using PCC ). Then you can visit service center
Good evening guys , I have a z1 c6902 with the latest firmware and a locked bootloader and I want to unlock the bootloader but I'm afraid of losing the drm keys so my question is : if I backup the TA partition , will I be able to relock the bootloader again and restore all of drm' related functionalities such as x-reality, BionZ and music info download or is there some features that can't be restored once bootloader is unlocked even with a TA backup ?
I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Hello all, as a newbie, I will buy XZ2 for flashing ROM very soon, so I would like to ask if the featured functions can be restored.
As we know unlocking the bootloader removes some Sony's features like DSEE EX, Widevine L1 etc. Can I restore these features simply by repairing the software with Xperia Companion? If not, how can I get back these functions after I've unlocked the bootloader? And can DRM backup helps?

You need backup TA partition before unlocking bootloader, then restore it after unlocked bootloader
