Walkman app plays most flac files fine. I have found a number of flac files that it cannot play. I want to understand why. (edit: Google Music cannot play these files either)
Here is an example file which plays fine on my computer, but fails to play on my Z1:
(sorry, I could not link due to low number of postings) - I will pm the link to anyone interested.
Thank you for any insight!

What is everyone using to play the video recordings they've made with their phones on their Windows machines?
The format is .mp4 and doesn't play nice on my box...
TW,
Everyone is using Google... seach for mp4 player and you'll find the answer.
However, I use VLC, which opens everything except for doors.
It seems odd that a phone that runs MS software can't play it's own recordings...?
Google, what's that?
I have the opposite problem. I can't replay video on my phone, but it plays fine on the PC.
To play stuff you need codecs. VLC doesn't need codecs. Just google codecs for your PC. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (I think that's what it's called). I use WMP to play everything. It works better than VLC now. And as for the poster above, same thing except you need codecs for your phone. I suggest you download TCPMP. What file type are you trying to run?

so the phone that takes video in mp4 can't play it without another program?
cause I'm having the same problem.
I take video with my camera, can I watch the video on my phone after that?
nope. (I'll search the forums but it's just strange since WM6 was fine; I could take video and play it on my phone fine, I think, I can't remember anymore)
I find that if I rename them with a .3gp extension they play fine in quicktime and in WMP (after setting the association or using "open with"). The same files with the original .MP4 extension choke in both (different issues, but neither play them correctly).

they are already named .3gp, which may be the problem since my phone doesn't play .3gp files.
I can't change the extension to mp4 either.
not only that but i can't play them on my computer; this is crazy since my computer can play anything.
I just convert mine: http://media-convert.com/convert/index.php
works well and it's pretty quick. I usually move the video to my PC first but I bet I could upload it using Skyfire.

So I've taken a lot of videos of my tilt, but I can't get them to play on my PC. They're in .mp4 format but they won't play in WMP, iTunes, QuickTime, or GOM Player. Anyone know a program that can handle these or what I can do to perhaps change the format the phone outputs them?
VLC should work.
After I move the video files from my tilt to my computer, I just rename the file from mp4 to 3gp, example: "video1.mp4" to "video1.3gp". It plays fine in quicktime after that. It gives me a warning that changing the file extension might make the file unreadable or something, but I haven't had a problem yet.
VLC (the aggressive player) will play anything you want, just get the right edition for you.
VLC won't work. It plays the audio but the screen is blank. =/
That's odd, my copy of VLC plays the Video but not the audio....
You can upload them to youtube and myspace and they will play fine there...lol

dude wtf...why cant it just output normal video
Hello,
I have the same issue. I could not have VLC read the movies correctly.
I now use Mirksoft Mobile 3GP converter to transform my videos into avi format (with correct output on VLC).
It can be found here : http://www.miksoft.net/
Hope this helps
there is a quicktime codec for vlc, with this you have sound and video
if you want them to play in WMP, you need a 3ivx codec.
http://www.3ivx.com/codec/download_win.php?format=exe
It's a trial, but it DOES work.
try this one Gom Player http://www.gomlab.com/eng/ it downlads codecs if you dont have them it should read any video.

I tried this and it worked just fine! Just changed the file extension to .3gp and it play perfectly in quicktime, good audio/video.
I downloaded a .m4v file (for the iPhone) from the NPR app and the video will not play.
I read a post that said to just change the file extention from .m4v, so I did that... I still can't seem to get any of the video players to play the file.
Anyone downloaded a .m4v from NPR's app and got it to play?

You will just have to transfer the files again, if worse comes to worse you may have to transfer everything off your card, format it in phone and transfer the files back.
Hello! I develop WP8 App with C# silverlight
I need to play short looped video (mp4) without sound and mp3-file simultaneously.
I tried to create 2 MediaElements: for audio and video, but WindowsPhone can play only one MediaElement in one time.
Do you know any tricks how to play video and audio simultaneously?
Maybe there are other ways to play mp3 or video (no MediaElement)?
Thanks in advance.
You can always try using the XNA framework and SoundEffect class in order to pull this off. If i'm not mistaken, you can only play .wav files through it (Someone feel free to correct me).

SoundEffect can play only WAV and I need play MP3 files
If i'm not mistaken there is just one way to do id: MediaStreanSource
Maybe someone know how to merge mp3 (audio channel) and mp4 (video channel) ?

MediaStreamSource uses the MediaElement in order to play, so it would definitely interfere. Also, it's part of the certification requirement to check if XNA is playing and to stop it before using anything that derives from the MediaElement.
