Since we got the new official 4.3 update, that means we got a new bootloader with the update right? If so, does anyone know if anyone has tried to get this unlocked even though we had no success with 4.2.2? I don't know if I can help get it done or not cause I don't have much background with actually unlocking it but I'm willing to help if possible. :fingers-crossed: Might run into problems with KNOX though.. idk.

Hello,
I bought an unlocked Samsung S4 Active I537 from ATT, but I use it in Canada.
I have tried to use Goomanager, TWRP manager, safestrap, quickboot; but the phone goes back to the normal bootloader.
When I try to install a ROM from my SD card (by normal bootloader) it does not do anything at all; just stays on the same screen for a minute then reboots normally.
I am guessing the bootloader isnt unlocked.
What tips you got?
Thanks!

The bootloader is still locked and currently there's nothing you can do about it. If you want to follow the progress read through this thread.
I learned that the hard way

In advance: sorry to sound bitter; but wasn't fun how useless can be a device with a locked bootloader.
So the google apps stopped working and the whole thing is pretty much gone to hell/
IF samsung hadnt locked it so good (in a non-compliment kind of way) I could just install a new ROM and done, even better than with their weird touch wiz. But they locked it well so the phone is pretty much an average control remote in present time.
All samsung devices are locked like this one?
or that's their only garbage version ?
If that's the way they roll... no more Samsung phones ever for me.
There is a reason I stopped buying apple stuff... I dont like buying a device that is limited not because of its hardware, but because of the useless things a brand adds to make it useless. (like locking the bootloader)
Anyways... I am considering buying another phone for now.:silly:

The device is far from useless, you can still root and flash custom ROMs, just not CM or AOSP based ROMs. I've posted all the stock ROMs and instructions on how to flash them, so if you do mess up your phone you can always start from scratch.
To answer your question about all Samsung phones, pretty much all Samsung phones from the GS3 an later that were sold by AT&T and Verizon have locked bootloaders. Nearly all the international versions as well as T-Mobile versions are sold with an unlocked bootloader, so you don't necessarily need to boycott Samsung, you just need to be more careful when purchasing a Samsung phone in the future.

Hey there
Where did you post these ways of re installing all?
I saw many posts around here about reinstalling but I couldnt move on after they required the Samsung to do something through the bootloader.
Also there was a post to uninstall using Odin, but the post had missing files so couldnt do it.
Keep me posted!

Hi everybody
Ive had my first HTC phone for a few weeks. Im running 2.3.3 with hboot 1.16. I have rooted the phone and bootloader unlock with HTCdev, therefore I am still S-ON. Running cyanogenmod 7.1.
I have a few questions regarding my device which hopefully you can help me with:
1.(when final versions are released etc) Because cyanogenmod 9 is be based on ICS, can I actually just install cyanogenmod 9 like I did with 7.1? or would I have to somehow upgrade my stock rom to ICS and then install cyan 9? Do I ever have to update clockworkmod?
2.Theres a lot of talk about gold golds when I look on forums especially when people have certain things wrong with there phone. Is it worth me making one just incase something goes wrong with my phone? Or can this not be done, im not actually 100% sure about these tbh.
3.Are there anyways to speed up the phone like apps etc. im thinking about moving all my apps to the sd card as apparently this helps? I also have SD maid pro installed to help clean it up etc I run that once a week. Any other apps that are useful?
4.Is it worth me getting s-off by downgrading my 1.16 to 1.13?
5.With iphone I ran a program called ultrasnow to carrier unlock my phone so I could but any simcard into my phone and it would work. Can this be done with HTC? Im currently locked on optus.
Sorry for the questions. Ive just came from having an iphone for the past 4 years, so all of the HTC stuff is very new to me. But hopefully one day ill be able to help people when they ask questions like I have done today. I will give thanks etc to answers.
Thank you for your time on helping

You should be able to just flash the cm9 rom same as cm7. I'm sure if there was any special requirements they will be stated in the thread when it arrives to our phone.

A goldcard is used for flashing a stock rom from a different carrier. Not much point making one until its necessary

I think moving apps to the sdcard may actually decrease performance as the internal phone memory is faster than sdcard. Unless you have Installed apps to near the phones capacity (which you may have being a new user ) I think its best to leave them where they are.
A good way to increase the phones performance would be to overclock or install a more efficient kernel. When I was running cm7 on my phone I found Enki v0-alpha to be awesome.

I'm unaware of any unlock method for this phone on gingerbread. Are you prepaid or plan? Prepaid can get free unlock code if you recharge an accumulated $80 (or $90 I cant recall exactly)
Thanks for the reply. ahh im pretty good with my apps tbh ive pretty much just downloaded the ones i used on my iphone on a daily basis except the ones that are only available in england (im travelling atm).
My phones is ok with phonecalls and sms, but its not very often i have full reception. A lot of the time when i am holding my phone it will go down to 0 bars. Its in an otter box communter case as well. Would different radio's be able to fix this issue? If i was to s-off obviously. And thanks for the kernal info, ill have a look into them. Not that i understand them atm but a bit of research should help.
And when i top up on the 9th i will be on $90 so i will go into optus and see about getting it unlocked.
Thanks for your help
About sim unlocking, I went to ebay and found a seller who pays the hefty fee for access to all unlock codes for different phones, by carrier. The unlock code is associated with the "EMEI" number of your specific phone.
It cost me about $20. My phone will accept any sim card fine. (Won't connect with a few carriers that use unique radio frequencies.)
My phone originally came from Bell, I got it used, and the above method let me put my Fido simcard into it.
Edit: oh, but if you get it free, oh well.

yeah i just wanted to know if i could do it in a matter of seconds like i can with my iphone. Not that i need it atm, but nice to have it done for when i need it. Thanks anyway !
speaking of kernals, if i was to flash a customer kernal. In order to get back to the original kernal would i have to reinstall the ROM or is there a way to delete it as so to speak?

Inside your rom's zip file, there's a boot.img. This is the kernel. You can flash it in fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
if i reflash the boot.img like i did when i initially installed cyanogen, wont my rom go back to how it was when i first installed it? Meaning i have to re-install all my apps etc etc. probs a noob question tbh, but ive never had to do anything like this yet.

I want an application of some sort that will allow me to decide which apps can connect to the internet and which cant. As i would like to block some apps from accessing the internet, unless i allow them to? any ideas?

[Q&A] [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEK
Q&A for [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEKHDway!
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [DOG1-N910T/T3] TEKXvirgin N4 URv0 > 8/11 STOCK ODEX ROM/ LOLLIPOP 5.1.1 > TEKHDway!. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
TEKHD! Thank you!
TEKHD ! Thank you so much! Finally I feel like my Note 4 is as smooth as the iphone UI now. 5.1 completely changed the feeling like an ealier poster mentioned earlier. I can't wait to see how smooth this runs with some tweaks / debloat.
For the Record : This is the FIRST rom to date I've ran on my note 4 on lollipop that actually goes to the task switcher after hitting the button, not 2 seconds later.
Running great so far on my n910t.
1) Backed up
2) flashed COG2 using Odin to update baseband
3) phone apps were crashing on reboot, went back to recovery, wiped per instructions in first post and then restored the second posted file.
4) Reboot to a brand new feeling Note 4
TEK HD Thanks again !
Has anyone on an N910T gone from this 5.1.1 ROM back to COG2? I Odined back but got a flurry of force closes that made it impossible to use the phone. NFC was one of the things constantly force closing... maybe because something to do with the phone thinking it became an N910T3?
Anyway, I did not wipe data after Odining because I usually don't have issues. Anyone know how to go back to COG2? I backed up my data and will try again with data wiped...
BTW, this ROM is very nice, fast and fluid, and indeed recent apps is much quicker. But I just want VoLTE and WiFi calling to work. Thanks in advance!
Edit: i see the note about wiping data when UPDATING to COG2, from COD6 or whatever, but when i did that before, i had no force close issues at all. so i was surprised that i had it when reverting from DOG1. anyway, i guess i may have to wipe if i wanna revert.... will try

Rooting roms, flashing roms or firmwares have nothing to do with unlocking the phone.
Whether the phone is locked or unlocked either way you can flash roms, firmwares or
anything else and it has no effect on the locked or unlocked status of your phone.
p.s. rooting or flashing roms will not unlock or lock your phone.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

That's true, but to be fair, there are two kinds of "locked".
Bootloaders can be locked or unlocked, usually depending on the carrier or manufacturer. The locked bootloader on AT&T's SM-910A is why only temporary root is available (and why I'm running a SM-910T on AT&T's network). T-Mobile Note4s have unlocked bootloaders, allowing different kernels, ROMs, and rooting. As far as I know, the only way to change the bootloader locked state is if the carrier or manufacturer allows it. I had an ASUS Transformer 2 that originally had a locked bootloader. After some complaining from XDA members and others, ASUS released a patch that unlocked the bootloader and I think voided the warranty. Anyway, unlocked bootloader doesn't mean you can swap in a foreign or prepaid SIM and have it work. That comes with the other kind of locking.
The carrier/SIM locking is completely separate from bootloaders. You can be stock, unrooted, etc and still have your phone unlocked to accept non-carrier SIMs. I purchased a carrier/SIM unlocked 910T to use on AT&T's network, but I could also take it to Europe and use a prepaid SIM. The carriers will unlock for free as long as the phone is fully paid for. Other online services don't care if the phone is paid for yet, but charge $30 or so I think. Never used them, so I can't comment specifically. I have ALWAYS unlocked by phones before selling them on Swappa because it tends to increase the value a bit.

There are a lot more than just two type of locks in our phones.
However your original post only mentioned carrier sim unlocking so my

So were you successful? I see no reply to your question or followup from you.
On a similar note: I'm wondering if I have a TWRP backup of a 4.4.4 ROM, and a TWRP backup of this one, if I can just switch back and forth with a restore or whichever one.
Yeah the reason I bought the tmobile version was for the unlocked bootloader. I just didn't know if there was a way to unlock it via Odin or anything. I ended up getting it unlocked by imeifix.com. $15 and 15 minutes later, highly satisfied with their service.
Files corrupted?
i tried downloading both files and both were corrupted when i used Winrar to unzip, also downloaded 7zip and nothing. What could be wrong?

hi sorry i forgot to update, but the data wipe did work. as for your nandroids, it's possible you may run into the same issue with the data, and also i think those two ROMs need different bootloaders and basebands, so you would have to change those as well when going back and forth.
I'm confused with this new 910T/910T3 nandroid backups. So we run these and it turns the software of our 910T into 910T3? And the DOG1 firmware? What's the advantage of this over running the tekxodus v3.3 with 5.1.1 and COG2? This new 3.3 is just so awesome
Hi All,
I see the development kernel is now out, but we still have the locked boot loader problem. Has there ever been a time that AT&T has allowed access/unlocked the boot loader before? Even if we do gain root access at this point (with the S8 coming out in a few months), would we get any custom ROM development or other things that are out for other phones?
I guess, at this point, what is the best case scenario?
Thanks!

Because of the obscurity of the S6 Active, along with the very few number of developers attempting a root (I am not actually sure if anyone is trying anymore.), the best case scenario is we might get a rudimentary root method for anything higher than 5.0.2. Marshmallow is looking even more bleak. As for a custom ROM, it is highly unlikely, if at all, that the bootloader will ever be unlocked.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the released kernel means much. We've already had released kernels for 5.1.1, and as far as I know there's been no root for 5.1.1.

AT&T probably has received death threats to have some of their devices unlocked. I can assure you AT&T will just give you their whole PR crap about how "it's unsafe to do and can damage your device" as if we don't already know that. Also from a legal standpoint, owning a carrier device doesn't mean you actually own the device, you just are "borrowing" it. It's in the small text of the crap they make you sign. They aren't legally obliged to do anything.

The best solution is to get an unlocked phone from the start. There's not many phones like the S6 Active, but any phone with a case and screen protector gets pretty damn close.
This sucks I've been searching for weeks on methods to root it everybody seems to think it can be rooted but it can't I'm frustrated at the thought of att locking the bootloader anybody got any good news yet about root for the S6A

Until they can figure out how to change the status of SELinux to allow for root via. Dirty Cow, there is no current hope for a root method. Not unless a much more experienced developer comes on the scene. However, from what I've seen, even the standard S6 has hardly had much luck with a root method.

Yes. The at&t variants of the galaxy s2 and galaxy s3 have factory unlocked bootloaders. When the s4 came out, at&t decided then to start locking bootloaders. However, the early s4 firmware (the MDL firmware) had a flaw in the bootloader which allowed a tool called "Loki doki" to bypass the lock and boot custom ROM and kernels. Later firmware updates fixed this hole.

I posted Crom.apk link in another thread...i am using the J3 running MM 6.0.1....so it should be compatible ...its under the bounty page. Unlocks bootloaders for samsung devices
Anyone come up with a solution to get root access?
i am deeply sorry if this is the wrong place or already been answered but i have spent almost 6 hours looking for the right solution.
so the story is i have a Z3 compact which is branded to Vodafone UK (not sure if it is relevant)
attached are images of my about page and the configuration page (where you dial *#*#7378423#*#*)
i also (on my search) have my code from the sony site where i selected my phone, sent an email, entered IMEI number and gave me a code to run using fastboot (this did not work for me)
based on theses settings what program/files/tools do i need to install custom rom, which i guess also will root it (im looking at either paranoid android or lineageOS)

so the story is i have a Z3 compact which is branded to Vodafone UK (not sure if it is relevant)
attached are images of my about page and the configuration page (where you dial *#*#7378423#*#*)
i also (on my search) have my code from the sony site where i selected my phone, sent an email, entered IMEI number and gave me a code to run using fastboot (this did not work for me)
based on theses settings what program/files/tools do i need to install custom rom, which i guess also will root it (im looking at either paranoid android or lineageOS)

You can't unlock you bootloader mate, the screenshot you put up says so. Meaning no custom kernels, which also means no ROMs that aren't based on stock. You're stuck with MIUI and various other zip-ports. No Lineage or AOSPA etc.
You can root it no problem though. Just use google or whatever, there's a couple of ways to do it.

thank you for your response thought this would be a dead thread.
a few follow up questions if i may:
1. i asume i can find any post with MIUI in the title while should be compatible
2. i read something about down grade of firmware (is that a possible option for me)
3. in my google searching, would i need to state that my BL is locked

Just find a MIUI ROM in the dev section if you want MIUI.
You can install any firmware from Sony using Flashtool. Learn to use it, it's gonna be your friend.
That means you download any FTF file for your phone (there's a thread somewhere with a collection of FTFs), and you can flash it. KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, or Concept.
I don't know how to root really, I just do it the old fashioned way since my bootloader is unlocked (and I pray that never changes). I think you'll have to downgrade to KitKat, which, again, is very easy if you know how to use Flashtool.
Np mate, I know the feeling of dead threads. Just happened by luck that I saw yours and got intrigued by the title lol.

Haven't used MIUI since 2013 so you'll have to find one by yourself lol. I'm more of an AOSP guy -- if I was forced to use a locked bootloader I'd just install the concept FTF. That's about as light as you can get on this phone.
You can't unlock your bootloader, period. No software hack will help you. At least not from home. You'd need something like a riffbox and extensive knowledge of the phone's bootloader software to unlock it.

Concept it is
Ok thank you for making it super clear (for me and anyone else reading this. )
It's annoying that the sony website gave me a code to unlock it. I'm sure they could have known from the IMEI number whqt it was and stuff.

I think the carriers lock the bootloaders, not Sony. As far to my knowledge, Sony ships out the devices unlocked, and the carriers decide whether to lock them, but don't report back to Sony. Their site just assumes you don't have a s'hitty carrier.
Best of luck man, and welcome to the Z3C forums!
So I messed up...Was trying to root and got stuck in a bootloop after flashing MAGISK, so I tried to just reflash the stock image...
I flashed successfully and got out of the bootloop but my wifi stopped working, so I rebooted and tried to reflash with the Pie image instead of oreo. For some reason I was getting errors so I got this bright idea to run the commands one by one in the Flash-All.bat.
But I still kept getting errors so I thought id reboot the bootloader and try again...thats where everything went south..Screen went black cant get to fastboot mode cant get to recovey..Pc recogizes the phone as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" Bashing my head finding old LG threads that cant work for the razer, I dont know what to do...Any suggestions? Or am i just completely screwed.
Bad news I'm afraid but that's a hard brick you've got there there's nothing you can do to fix that afaik.
Mate, try this link? I googled around for you and this came up. Worth a shot -- best case it fixes it, worst case you're back to square one.

I saw that link on my hunt but I can't use it because the files provided are specific to LG L70 devices, the Razer doesn't use TOT files for firmware they use I'm going file's and the software he provided (which I tried) can only flash tot files.
Thank you though!

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Well luckily I am able to get it replaced... maybe not the most honest way but I only had it for a day so I went to where I bought it and told them it stopped working and they are sending me a replacement. Since it doesn't actually turn on they can't see that I unlocked the bootloader.... however...I'm still gonna try to root it I'll be more careful but I need root! I've been rooted since way back in Evo4g and Galaxy S1 days I use allot of root features I just can't give up..it's why I dropped Samsungs and went to Razer since Samsung started locking bootloader's... anyway hope it goes better the second time around lol

I'm glad you're getting it replaced! May I ask what factory image did you try to flash onto the device? Pie MR0 or MR1?

With the lack of Custom ROMs what root features are you looking for exactly?
I just ordered mine today and like you I've rooted all my past phones except my current LG G6 (which can't be hence my upgrade)
The only thing I usually really need root access for is the free tethering without AT&T knowing and I was able to do that to the G6 without root.
Not trying to be mean or anything I'm just curious.
