HELP! I lost/borked an important apk. - Moto X Q&A

Long story short, I was trying to invert my contacts. I failed.
I used recovery's file browser to delete corrupted files so I could
boot without errors crashing phone. Im using safety strap.
Locked boot loader.
Now, up and running with write protection off
However, while I have the contact apks I have no app. Nothing.
I tried the apks from att ROM and it did nothining. If anyone
can help... all my texts are just numbers now. Who are these
people? Lol

You may need to fix the file permission. Try setting the permission to rw-r-r.

Thanks, I did that from the go. It didn't work. I always save my original apks but this time something went terrible wrong. I also lost the contact provided apk. Replacing them with the att ROM leak and fixing permissions allowed me to boot the phone but still not have contacts.

Can you clear app data for those 2 apk, you may also need to re sync too

Did you factory reset it. The app that contain the contacts is "Contacts Storage" which is a different apk, I think it's /system/priv-app/ ContactsProvider.apk

Just let you know its impossible to invert the people app, I tried every single way possible, the only way is to run a custom ROM

I tried. It's not listed in settings/apps and I know now that the apks from the att ROM that I used do not agree with the phone. Clicking on the apks gives me the response that the app was not installed.

I think you need to do a factory reset with fastboot so it would be fastboot erase userdata

Such as safety strap and the whole root process? Sorry I've never done this before with safety strap. Ive always had phones so teeth unlocked boot loaders and plenty of backups on hand. If it's just data and not root then it's okay. I'm backed up but if I have to do the root process again I'll need to get some fresh air first.

Okay, I erased userdata in fastboot and the phone is totally unresponsive now. Can't get back into fastboot or anything. Held buttons down forever. Computer still makes a noise when I plug it in but doesn't show up under devices. ? not sure how to get out of this one.

That's a really bad idea, I was only suggesting to run factory reset inside Settings.
Try: fastboot format userdata

Thanks to dhacker29 for the orginal idea and script!

You have to be unlocked to use this!!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY THING THAT HAPPENS TO YOU OR YOUR PHONE!
I will try to help as much as possible, but that does not allow you to hold me responsible for anything whatsoever.
Step 1. Download this zip file and extract it, putting all the files in a folder.
Step 2. Download the file "One-Click Fastboot Restore.zip" and extract it, putting all the files in the same folder as the one above.
Step 3. Run the .bat file and follow the instructions.
DO NOT FIX PDS PARTITION UNLESS NECESSARY! IT WILL WIPE YOUR MAC ADDRESS FOR WIFI AND BLUETOOTH!

No comments yet? I take that as a good sign, I haven't screwed up the script!

I'm also curious what exactly it does. At 140k it isn't replacing very much. Does it just fix files related to booting?
Didnt run it because I'm on linux and my phone is fine, but looking at the batch file, it automates flashing the stock gingerbread rom and restores PDS via fastboot.
when I run it, it gives me AdbWinApi.dll error. any suggestions?
I ran this for ****s and giggles and it returns everything back to stock AT&T 2.3 while giving you options along the way of what exactly you wanna restore to stock? webtop, system, pds, wipe data etc. works perfectly! makes life easier really! Phone booted right up after running no problems! Thanks!

It restores your phone back to stock AT&T android via fastboot automatically. It also gives you the option to *fix* your pds partition.
It's also an alternative to RSD

Pardon my ignorance, i'm trying to restore a bricked Atrix 4G for a friend. It gave error Failed to boot SVF 105:1:2 0x1000 after bad upgrade. Is it possible to use this as a solution? How can i find that out? and in any case, i have downloaded all files, what's the correct procedure to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Well, been trying but haven't been able to do anything with it. I mean I never used it before and seems like it needs to boot into fastboot mode which I haven't been able to do.
Is in any way possible to make the phone boot into that via usb cable with this software? I installed all requiered software including drivers but it never detected the phone in that (bricked) state, not even once. The phone turns a green light when u connect the usb without battery in, thats it.
I haven't found any solution yet, only seen ppl saying to buy a new one. Is this brick really that bad that there's absolutely no solution? And it all seems to be caused by lack of SBK as ive read on the net...
Well if there's any good news I would like to hear them

It's a hard brick. I'm sorry, but it cannot be fixed. You can always try a factory cable, but so far, nothing can be done. I feel your pain

[Q] Any way for us on Verizon DE with TWRP to install the update?

Not sure if I missed it, but didn't see anything via searching. Is there any way yet for us on the Verizon DE with a custom recovery to install/flash the current update? Without restoring the phone to stock and/or flashing back to a stock recovery.
I assume we are just waiting for the correct files to be extracted from the update, so that we can flash them, but thought maybe I missed something along the way.

Flash stock recovery via fastboot > reboot > download and flash OTA via stock recovery > reboot > flash twrp with fastboot > reboot/root > enjoy. If you have made any mods to your system you will probably want to rsd or fastboot completely back to stock.

Be careful, flashing system and then updating will wipe root away, if not done properly

This won't help you but in case you didn't know you could, I'm running the updated tmobile rom on my dev edition vzw Moto x. You get native tethering that way too. You just have to flash the vzw build.prop on top, the original one works fine. Then you need an app like 4g lte switch to enter phone settings and change to lte/cdma auto(prl) to receive and make calls and txts. Pretty cool I think. This way I've had the update for almost a month now and didn't have to wait for Verizon

I suppose that would work if you didn't want to wait on Verizon for updates. FYI native tether is also easy to achieve on Verizon without the T-Mobile hack.
Hopefully Verizon is fairly quick when updates are released, this round wasn't bad at all so I didn't mind the wait too much.

Rooted but I can't remove bloatware?

I've tried deleting the bloatware manually using a root explorer but it isn't letting me delete them. I've tried using Titanium Backup as well and it says it uninstalls the apps, but when I check my app drawer they're still there. What's wrong with my phone? All root apps are working perfectly so I have no idea what's going on. Anyone know what the problem is? This is on my Verizon Moto X, by the way.

I believe the moto x root method only allows you to make permanent changes when booted through the recovery. So try that.

What do you mean exactly? Go into recovery and reboot from there? Oh and by the way, freezing in TiBu worked, but I need to uninstall the MyVerizon app. It doesn't work. When I open it it just freezes up, hence why I'm trying to remove it so that I can install it from the Play Store directly.

Recovery is hijacked into a version of the system with system-write enabled. So it is no longer a recovery. All you need to do is boot into recovery and it will seem like you're booting normally, but you can do root changes. Then reboot normally after you're done.
Also, this is why I don't like to root my moto x. Way too complicated and it messes with OTAs. (never take an OTA when already rooted, since you don't have a real recovery you will end up in a boot loop. There are certain steps you need to take.)

Wow, that seems like a really complicated root exploit. I wasn't aware it was like that. The only reason I rooted was to add the one-click toggles to the quicksettings page in the notification bar and to add in a few other toggles (e.g. rotation toggle). The bloatware was just something I noticed today that I figured I'd remove (mostly the MyVerizon app, since I actually need that to work since I use it frequently). I am aware that I should never take an OTA, though. That part is clear to me. Thanks for the help, man!

Lost a few files from reset, but I have the ones I really need through titaniumbackup. Hard for me to pinpoint exactly where in the slap process it stopped working. I'm thinking it was before upgrading to 4.4 OTA.
Now when flashing back to 4.2.2. Does it remove root and write protection?

[LG-H901] Stock .img Files (Boot, System, and Recovery)

These are stock .img files that we pulled once TWRP got booted. If you break something (like flashing TWRP incorrectly), you can use these to restore it.
boot.img - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5fMrmukgO0NcVdKYzczRFBBSlk/view?usp=sharing
recovery.img - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5fMrmukgO0NUTUtdXdVZTM5MGs/view?usp=sharing
system.img - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5fMrmukgO0NcTYxVHhkSkxfelk/view?usp=sharing
For a flashable zip of the img's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/development/lg-h901-stock-images-device-restore-t3241170
If you're having trouble flashing system.img because of file size (you will). Move it to the /sdcard folder on your phone however you want (simply drag it over to storage), then in adb shell, "dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system" or simply use TWRP.
Flashing these would be the same as you would on the nexus right? I.e fastboot flash system system.img

As you were resetting up the phone, lg should have showed you the list of uninstalled LG apps...it ALWAYS does, but I know it is easy to skip over them as well when setting the phone. There should be another way even after, will edit this post once I set up my phone again.
But to answer your main post, flashing the system.img wont bring it back because the phone will still see them as uninstalled. You just have to reinstall them from the lg app list
