Touch screen dead expert assistance pls - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220290&highlight=touch+screen+not+working
can anyone help me to preform this task on a Z1
The phone is rooted but bootloader still locked and on 534 FW
I'm a novice at this - first time rooting an android device
would loading a mod possibly refresh the whole system including touch screen FW ?
Also is the TS FW stored on the Motherboard or on the screen Hardware

If you want perform that task why you do not ask this on the right thread like the one you posted and ask @gregbradley to help you?

because it's a Z1 and this is the Z1 forum
I'm getting closer to working this out, so far -
I've rooted
installed adb
found the touch firmware - there are about 15 different img files in the folder
the problem is that I think the Z1 boots differently to the T, there may be several types of touch screen and there seems to be a routine that checks this during boot so manually loading TS FW could be an issue
I;m not even sure if this issue is a FW or hardware fault my bet is HW but I want to make sure
also I have 2x Z1 phones - is there a way I can do a full system dump from my good one onto the bad one and I mean a complete clone
and is there a command I can use to see the FW version loaded to the screen
when I use the system info app and look at input devices between my two Z1 the TS is missing from the faulty one as though it's not connected so again this could be HW
everything works with mouse and keyboard via usb
anyone got a trashed Z1 they could maybe send me the motherboard to test this problem as I honestly think it's the interface chip on the MB has failed

All the things ok.. But what is that " Quad " ?
Few tips.
First off i am also curious what is this quad thing?
Yes, you can root this XSP, i followed the method by DooMLord however since i am new to the rooting process i found the detailed instruction insanely useful.
If you are planning on using the above root method be ready to expect the offline charging bug. I dont think it is a major issue but it is annoying when you cant have your phone off and charging at the same time since it auto starts when charger is plugged in. If you can live with that the rooting itself is quite easy but you have to mind the details and you wont lose any setting etc. The charing issue is somewhat fixed... why somewhat? Because the fix seems to be restricted to stock (original) software and it is a bit of a pain in the... Also the process itself is more complicated then rooting itself and it gets tricky and you will be forced to reset your phone's settings (wipe).
However, i got a quite good 'guide for dummies' by androidfreak32 (thx again). Remember to backup any vital info before you start doing anything.
If I were to do all i had done again thats how'd i do it (working offline charging):
Start with a backup of all the vital information you have: upload contacts to google, backup contacts, msgs and other things AT LEAST with sony pc companion. Preferably use some more advanced method since pc companion doest do the best job of backing things up for me.
Start with making your own ftf file to back-up your stock soft in case things go haywire or if you wanna restore your phone to its "as sold" state. You will also need it to make offline charging work. As androidfreak23 suggested here is how you do it (it is a little outdated).
from here proceed with the rooting with DooMLord's method and follow the the guide for dummies i mentioned above. The ftf making is the very 1st step there.
I received the help when i needed it so if you have any issue i could help you with id be happy to if i am only able. I really am considering making a detailed guide on how to do all that...
Thank you all
I think the "Quad" refers to Quadband am I right?
Thank you all I appreciate this help so much
The next time I will check before posting...

[Q] Xperia Tablet Z (SGP351) best solution ?

Hi all love your noob video:good:
Xperia tablet z (SGP 351)
build number 10.1.C.0.370.
OS 4.1.2
Kernel Version 3.4.0-g298631f-02047-gec59411
USB debugging is ON
Allow unknown sources ON
Advice needed for best solution
The problem: this unit appears to be a demo model for display purposes as it keeps running through the Sony advert for the tablet.(bought cheap)
Also When i customized the home screen to my liking then power off then power on again everything goes back to how it was before I customized.
When I try to update software using Sony PC companion it says the device has the latest software
What are my best options please?
My first thought root device I tried to use and failed "one click root" didn't work for my device.
Then try and find the demo and remove( needle in a haystack maybe)
but this won't stop home screen going back to defaults on boot up.
So it looks like custom FW
If somebody could give me the link for the software/instructions/ and which version I should use would be great
Iv'e looked at DoomLords thread but still not sure if any I should be using

Phone not turning on please help!!!!

Hello,
I wanted to flash my kernel because of the stupid cyanogenmod recovery and I flashed the kernel to the wrong partition (aboot) using terminal emulator and now my phone won't turn on anymore.... No FlashTool no fastboot no nothing
Pressing the volume down/power or reset does nothing plugging it in then pressing the reset button makes it vibrate three times and for the rest it does nothing...
Is my phone completely dead and ready to be trashed?
I'm sure sony won't repair it now
repair using PC Companion
Hi,
Unfortunately aboot refers to your device bootloader, and a broken bootloader means a dead device. Bootloader is the responsible for bringing up all the software in your device, that means: recovery, fastboot, kernel, etc.
Unless you can flash software directly to the aboot partition, you won't be able to bring it back alive again. I'm not sure regarding Z1, but when my S4 died of a bootloader problem, I've sent it to a guy who owned a JTAG and he restored the bootloader for me. If you don't know anyone who can do this job, then you'll need to send it to Sony.
Messing up with partitions is exactly why people suggest to not try doing it without knowing what you're doing. Sometimes simple mistakes like that happens and they are a huge headache.
Good luck with your device,
~Lord

Yeah indeed it was a tiny but destructive mistake I wrote aboot instead of boot! My phone is now on it's way to the sony repair center let's see how that goes! I'll let you know if they will repair it or not.
I'm actually quite interested in what they will do to my phone lol will they replace the motherboard or just give me a new one?

Hi,
I believe they will just flash the bootloader directly to the motherboard. As you know it is installed during the production process, and just like with the S4 there are tools that can install software this way.
So it's very likely you'll receive exactly the same device with software flashed back. Here's for example what is done when a S4 has damaged software:

I believe it's a similar process. And in case something goes wrong they may replace the motherboard, but these are internal information that I don't have access :silly: ?.
All the best,

Very interesting... I didn't know that lol I always thought they just replaced the motherboard and sent it back! Anyway when I get my device back, I will check the IMEI, pvs bin, ... to see if it's still the same device! It's quite sad that this device is not as easy to do a teardown on as let's say a samsung device most samsung phones are held together by a set of screws which can be easily removed in a matter of minutes with Sony phones you'll have to unglue the back cover and loose it's water proof functionality to repair it I guess! It would be a lot better than having to wait 3 weeks to get my phone back.
Thanks for your help though!

Just got my phone back in working condition, they replaced the motherboard as I expected BUT even though I freaking told the store I bought it at that the vibration motor was making squealing noises, sony did not replace it so I will have to send it back AGAIN :/

Replacement Touch Screen Not Working?

Hi,
I don't know if any can help me at all please?
I just replaced the Touch Screen & Frame on my UK Xperia Z1
The process was fairly straightforward and everything went back together just fine but although the phone powers on ok and the display is good it will not respond to any touch? I have completely redone my work to check I had not missed anything but I still have the same problem. I have loaded stock KitKat & Lollipop but to no avail. I can use the phone with a mouse/keyboard without a problem but absolutely no touch response at all..
I hope somebody can point me in the right direction.
Many Thanks
Try to flash a stock rom via flashtool.
I have a similar problem, any rom flashed via fastboot will cause the touchscreen not to respond

Z1 problem, need a magican

Hi there, I would love to know, if there is any that kind person, who could help me to totally reset the phone that I have found like two months ago. I was waiting for a call, was charging the phone for few days, already called ace numbers, nobody is responding. the thing is that i can't actually do anything with that xperia z1 as i don't know the pattern and as i am not a professional all i know it has no boot loader unblocked or debugging, something like that. if somebody could help me, i am about to send him a nice scottish whiskey greets pals
Use flashtool I think and just flash stock ftf ?
Maybe this xD? Never tried it

Download flashtool (just Google it)
Install it and the drivers which are contained in installation directory. If you use Windows 7+ then additional steps are required to install drivers. Its very easy again Google it
Download ftf file for your Xperia Z1
Be sure to download correct version of ftf. Check the model number of z1 and download it
Its recommended to keep battery charge atleast 40%+.
Now open flash tool switch off your phone
Click on the lightning symbol on top left of your screen and select flash mode and click ok
Browse through and select downloaded ftf file and wait for a dialogue box with phones animation to appear it may take some time to extract ftf file so be patient.
Do as dilogue box says and done..!!
