[Q] Issue with Charging - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

My OG Droid has been sitting in a drawer for a year or so because I can't charge it while it's on. I think that there is an issue with the micro usb port or something. When it started giving me issues, I got a new phone. I recently found it in the drawer and was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and might know of a workaround. I have an extra battery and a charger for it, but the batteries die super quick. Anyone have any idea what I might be able to do to hack this so I can use it to mess around with?

could try

[Q] Homebrew Inductive charge mod

Anyone performed or heard of anyone doing an inductive charge mod to the Incredible? I found this article for the EVO and Palm touchstone. I'd like to do something similar to my Incredible, but I'm not sure how to wire it.

Still a lot of work and hacking to make work
hmmmm... Im off work for the next few days. Might have to take a crack at this. I cant cook ROM's, i might as well carve on the back right?
would be cooler if the connection was internal, so usb charging was still an easy option when a touchstone wasn't handy... Anyone seen anything on wiring it directly into the phone?
That pretty cool i think thats how they all should be

looks REALLY risky haha

Possibly dead USB port

Arg.
So my otherwise adorable 1 year old somehow got his hands on my Captivate this weekend. When we finally caught him, he was chewing and slobbering on it pretty much right where the USB port is. After getting the phone back out of his grubby little hands, my wife and I took it completely apart and have had the whole works soaking in rice for a day or so.
When I put it back together, it booted just fine, and everything seems to be in working order. Except...when I plug a cable into the USB port, it doesn't charge, and it doesn't connect to my computer for storage mounting/flashing. This would be a bit of a problem.
I've checked for obstructions in the port itself and there don't seem to be any. I can get by for now without charging because my wife and I have the same phone (so we can periodically swap batteries...), but she's leaving town for two weeks at the end of this week. I really don't want to have to buy a new phone...so any ideas on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Once the USB port is gone its gone, you would need to get an external wall charger for it and a wifi file browser.
there might be some moister in it yet, but generally the captivates had issues with the USB port just flaking out like that. Its a common problem for this phone, and also has happened to mine.
Or you can just pay ~35$ to get it fixed, look in my sig. They are good!

Hmm...I didn't even realize that was an option. I'll be looking into that. Thanks!
They fixed mine and it works great. I would also order a new cable from them for like 7 bucks. It is all well worth it!
interesting, didnt know about that one either
Update:
It's apparently not *quite* as dead as I thought. It's still not recognizing my computer or telling me that it's charging...but apparently it is actually charging my battery. I plugged it into my computer just to see and left it. It never said that the phone is charging, but when I came back a few minutes later the battery meter had gone up, and it's still doing that fairly consistently.
That's at least good news for now. Even if the USB transfer is dead, I'm still OK as long as I can charge. As long as I don't have to use download mode...
That sounds like a bad cable, just buy one of those first, cheaper and easier to check!

It's nothing to do with the cable. We have four USB cables and two different car chargers. It's the same thing with all of them, and they all work perfectly on my wife's phone.

My first Captivate had a USB port go bad.. I tried 10 different cables and decided for some reason it was a ROM issue and got into download mode.. well let's just say I was buying another Captivate the next day.. lol
I did resurrect it by buying a Captivate with a broken screen on Ebay cheap. Combined the two and it's actually a later production and the GPS works good compared to hardly at all before. M yold screen and new guts.. Now I have a spare phone to try new Roms on without messing up my daily driver.. (Dark Knight 4 atm)
I see broke screen Captivates for $40-80 on Ebay regularly..
My wife also has a captivate with a dead USB port. So I went on amazon and searched for captivate batteries and external charger and found a package that came with 2 extended life batteries and the wall charger that charges one separatly from the phone while you use the other in the phine . Its made by Laza wireless and both batteries and charger was 15.99 and shipped free. Got it in two days and works great and was a whole lot cheaper than a phone.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but, I have had the same problem for months also caused by a toddler sucking on the phone and cables. I swap batteries daily. stock/1800/2430 mah. I am curious if anyone knows of a wireless charging option. I know my wii batteries are inductive and it is just the new battery and charger on a stock remote. is there an inductive charger and battery available for cappy? is wireless charging dangerous to the phone if it wasnt designed with it in mind? for that matter is anything available for anyother phones besides the lumia 920 and maybe nexus I think?
cheapest, best option is to get the USB port repaired by mobiletechvideos.com, imho.
I know of no induction solution for captivate that works without a good usb port.
I figured and also thought the Cappy wouldn't be a device supported by a new battery developer when there is so many newer ones out.
Thx

[Q] CM9 with Touchstone

Im planing on eventually getting a Touchstone for my Touchpad. I'm wondering, are there problems with charging the TouchPad on the Touchstone while running CM9? I would assume it just charges like normal since its a hardware feature. But does the software act up since it doesnt recognize HOW its being charged? I have read that people have had some issues like freezing up or the charger doesnt charge in CM9. What has been everyone's experience with it?
I used to have a lot of freezes and lock-ups when using the Touchstone -- primarily when taking the TP off of the TS. However, with any recent nightly it's been MUCH more trouble-free. I don't know that I've had another instance of this at least since we got official nightlies, and maybe even prior to that.
Right now, it's a little annoying that the Clock app always comes up when you start charging, but that's about it. I believe you can remove the Clock app to get around this, but I haven't tried yet. I don't know that I'd say it's worth what I paid for it, but it is pretty slick to just drop the TP onto the TS without fiddling with cables.

So you havent had any instances of leaving your TouchPad on the Touchstone and come back to find it drained of battery? Thats what I am mostly worried about since I have seen people post what happens to their TouchPad running CM9 and letting their battery die.
I've never had any issues using the touchstone to charge the TP when running CM7 or CM9. For me, it has always worked flawlessly.
I downloaded Dock Nothingness to prevent anything from coming up when you use the touchstone. Android interprets the touchstone as a dock charger so it can tell the difference between the two.
I also use dock nothingness.
I got a TouchStone before I put android on it. I have always left it on the TS to charge at least daily. I have yet to have a single issue with freezing or draining. I used it on webOS for a few weeks, very little on CM7, and CM9 since the very first alpha. Running alpha 2 now. Currently I have 311 hours of up time on the TP, I would guess 111 hours of that on the TS, based on what CPU spy is telling me. Nary a single issue here.
I don't know what (if at all) cases others are using. Because I got a TS I went with the HP official case. Had it almost as long as the TS, and leave it on the TP all the time. Pretty nice case IMO, soft touch, micro fiber cover cleans the screen, built in easel. IIRC, I read on some amazon reviews certain cases produced weird results on the TS.

Thanks for the replies. When I do get the Touchstone, I will probably look into putting llama or tasker on my TouchPad so when it gets to about 20 percent, my device will shut down. Like I said, thats the only real worry I have with it due to what I've been reading. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put it on there anyway.
I like how WebOS plays a sound to confirm that it's charging on the dock. Is there an easy way to do that in CM9? Other than that, I love it.
I did just load the nightly two days ago, and yesterday the battery was drained after sitting on the stone all day. It could just have been user error, though. I'll see tonight when I get home.
I have a Droid X2 and I know when it gets set on its dock it makes a sound. All devices are different though and I dont know if that option was built into CM9 or not.
BTW, no problem with the 4/16 nightly using the stone yesterday.
Just got a touchstone, can't wait to stop using that stupid cord
you guys think leaving it on the dock all the time will mess up the battery?
No.

I was leaving mine pluggen in the wall almost constantly. Since I do the same with my phone, I didnt see a problem with it. But I went home one day and had some problems getting it to turn on. It finally did and since then, I've just been shutting it off when I dont use it. I'm a little paranoid about it not coming back on. lol. But leaving devices plugged in dont usually hurt the battery. I think they are pretty much made for that now a days.

[Q] Just had my i9305 replaced...

Yeah, it was being weird. Here are the symptoms, let me know if anyone else experienced the same thing
Random Reboots
Battery Drainage (even with an Anker 4400 in it)
Slow Boot Up times
Micro USB port really loose.
Got it all replaced now with Orange UK. They didn't even charge me, makes me think that there were more people with problems like this.
Let me know.

standard OUK policy. if the phone is within 7 days, you get a brand new replacement or a reconditioned there after. chances are because the phone is so new you'll have got a brand new one
I've had it for two months now. I think it was a brand new phone. all is working fine for now.

[Q] Hard freeze overnight

Hi,
My IncS has started playing up over the past week or so.
Every night now, when I get up in the morning I have to remove the battery from the phone and power it back up as it has totally frozen.
Another weird thing is the battery is normally really drained once I have it powered back up. Doesn't have any problems during the day at all, never freezes or anything but overnight when it is plugged in to charge,it dies.
I've tried replacing the battery (I had a spare) as it only happens when mains charging and, like I said, when it is turned back on the battery is substantially lower then when it was plugged in but that didn't help.
I tried totally wiping the phone and installing a new ROM (szeszo's lovely new cyanogen with his Tesco kernal) and it is still happening...
Anyone else experienced this? Any idea what's caused it? And finally, does anyone know a way I can do so kind of logs about what is going on?
Thanks...
I had the same issue too. Was USB connector related. Had to sent my device to htc repair

Try a different USB cable on the charger

Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be the USB port or cable. Thanks for the suggestions though.
It started freezing when it wasn't plugged in at all and it was doing my nut in...
Yesterday I bought a Note 2 and it gets delivered today. I know, it's huge and I'll probably end up selling it on when I get fed up of having to carry it round in a wheel barrow
It is such a damn shame to be putting the IncS to sleep at last. It's been a damn good phone for a long time (probably the longest I've ever used 1 phone for!). Somehow I can't imaging the Note being as well made as this was. The moment HTC do a Nexus phone I'll be selling whatever I have and buying up cos that will be awesome.
Anyway, guess I'll be off to the Note forums now.
Later guys, and thanks...
