Hello everybody, I am having some problems after the 4.4.2 update. I took the OTA to 4.4.2 from 4.4, installed TWRP, rooted all fine and dandy. I installed some rooted apps such as xposed and all that but when i rebooted afterwards my phone wont boot up past the moto boot animation. It plays the animation just fine but then instead of booting into android it just goes to a black screen. I can boot into fastboot and custom recovery( both CWM and TWRP) just fine but it keeps going to the black screen. I have the unlocked T-Mobile version. I read that downgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.4 will cause a brick so im not sure what other options i have? any ideas?

This is a time where I wish android had a stable backup option not requiring root. Normally I use titanium backup however I'm keeping this stock. iOS has nailed this with iCloud.
Sent from my iPad mini using Tapatalk
One thing that I forgot to add is you need to remove the getvar line in the .xml file.
I can only say this works for VZW. Not sure about other carriers.
so can someone post that they have returned to 4.2.2 from 4.4 on a locked bootloader vzw device please. I know people said you can, or it worked or whatever. But i just want to make sure that you are on a locked device and didn't misread the thread title or something.
yeah, post screen shots of kernel, etc.
I have personally done this on my LOCKED VZW Moto X.
Works like a charm. The RSD Lite, will flash it back to factory unrooted 4.2.2. You will have to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509590 to reroot if you want.

Steps that I took to downgrade from KitKat. VZW Moto X Consumer (non-dev) (LOCKED)
1) download and install RSDlite and Motorola Drivers (I used RSDlite 6.1.5)
2) Download http://sbfdownload.droid-developers...2-13.9.0Q2.X-116-MX-17-57-X-1_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
3) Unzip the file
4) Open the .xml file and delete the line that has "getvar"
5) Reboot your phone to "bootloader/fastboot" mode
6) Open RSDlite and load the unzipped edited download from above
7) Make sure your phone shows up
8) Start the flash
9) Once complete the phone should reboot and start up like normal.
I have not had any issues. I have rerooted with RockMyMoto.
Hey all,
I'm having some trouble flashing TWRP on my phone. I've been following this guide here. When attempting to install TWRP to get root, however, it won't work. I've tried several different versions of fastboot & mfastboot. Sometimes I get a "bootloader variable not found" error, but most of the time now it exits saying it's successful. However, when I reboot into fastboot mode and then into recovery mode, it's still at the stock recovery. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
If it helps, my unlock status code shown is 3.
Thanks in advance!

Actually the modem does cause issues with settings FC's, this has been discussed many times, problem being which modem do you flash to get data, if you flash the European modem its possible you will have issues, so pick one close to your location. I believe you can flash 4.4 modems and they will work fine with 4.4.2, do not downgrade to 4.2.2 or kiss your moto good bye

No, chances you won't get data, try the Brazilian firmware or T-Mobile, AT&T or Rogers if the 4.4.2 Rogers sbf firmware has been uploaded, here I have the Brazil modem https://www.dropbox.com/s/vbjxj7bilfb4kvl/modem.zip, just unzip and flash in fastboot

TL: DR (for the super lazy)...was the recovery changed or should I be okay with the one from 4.4?

Just sideloaded 4.4.2 and I want to flash TWRP. Before doing so I'd like to make sure I have a stock recovery.img file to fallback on just in case. Will the recovery for 4.4 work in future OTA's (post-4.4.2) or will I need to extract the recovery.img from the 4.4.2 sbf when it becomes available?

Thanks for the quick response. I thought I looked everywhere before posting this, apparently not hard enough.
I'm not seeing the recovery.img from 4.4.2 in that OP. I could really use it.
