[Q] ART not working - Moto X Q&A

Hello Guys, since i've flashed twrp and rooted my phone, it doenst run in ART anymore. It keeps returning to dalvik. I change it back to ART and it reboots but with the dalvik. Anyone have any ideia there is some kind of incompatibility between twrp/root and art?
tyvm

Art is not very great at the moment....I wouldn't worry about it personally.

Normally I agree with you kj, but this time I wholeheartedly disagree. I've used ART on my Nexus5 and MotoX and have loved the smoothness and battery life benefits.
OP have you installed xposed? From what I understand it doesn't work with ART and will kick you back to Dalvik. It's one of the reasons I don't use xposed
MotoX GSM Developer Edition, Bootloader Unlocked, Rooted, Stock 4.4.2 Great Britain on T-Mobile !

I've never used art on my N7 or X.....so I'm just going by stuff I've read.
I would never debate anything I didn't have my own experience with. Lol
To me too tho....xposed is essential now...on all my androids...so art is out for me.

Yeap. I was using it and everytime i switched to art and reboot, it came with dalvik. Now after u saying that, i will try remove xposed. Tyvm bud!

On my Dev. Edition running the stock rom 4.4.2 but rooted with TWRP, Art works perfectly fine for me and I have noticed an increase in smoothness. I also am using Xposed and several modules including Gravity Box.
Edit: Nevermind, my bad. Art was working for me then Xposed kicked me back to Dalvik.

Then you're not using ART....
Your "increase in smoothness" is all in your head. If you run Xposed, it resets your runtime to Dalvik, as per the developer:
After installing Xposed, the runtime gets reset from ART to Dalvik. Can you stop it please? You can be glad that I implemented this, otherwise you would be in a bootloop know. Xposed isn't compatible with ART (yet).

ART doesn't work with Xposed

Guys,
I was using ART in my phone, but when I installed Xposed, the phone change automatically for Dalvik. Have uninstalled it but still not change for ART anymore
what I have to do for use ART again?
Obs:
Rooted with SlapMyMoto e kill write protection with MotoWpNoMo..
It's one or the other. You can't have both right now.
I choose xposed over ART personally. ART reduced battery life and I didn't notice any improvements in performance to my eyes. I'm loving xposed though, lots of great options.

You should be able to uninstall xposed from the framework menu in the xposed app and then switch back to ART after a restart.

Just rooted my phone and setting everything up. I noticed that android runtime is now an option in dev options. Anyone switch over from dalvic yet?
Not I. I like xposed modules.
Will wait for android L for what it is meant for.

Xposed framework APK for Moto X 4.2.2

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone still has an Xposed framework APK that works with the moto x on the original stock fw (4.2.2). The latest version doesn't install properly... Thanks in advance.
What do you mean, it should and I'm using the latest version as far as I know. I installed it what, 2 or 3 months ago?

I believe there is a different version for Jellybean (4.2.x) than Kitkat (4.4)

There definitely is. the framework APK installs and the framework 'installs' and the phone reboots but when it comes up it gives an error. Googling says the current version only works with 4.4
If you go to the Xposed Installer repo, then scroll down and press the Show Older Versions link, you'll have access to every version out there.
Here's the link http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Make sure you're not using ART. It only works on dalvik.

I don't think ART was introduced until 4.4, so he's probably fine.

[Q] How could I install xposed modules in chroma rom?

I need help to install xposed modules in the chroma rom I have a 64gb Nexus 6 build# LMY47V,android version 5.1.1, and its the latest build of chroma 4/29/15, I will send $5 to the first persons paypal to completely help me Thank you so much.
You can't use Xposed while being on Chroma.
1. Xposed isn't officially supported on Android 5.1.
2. Chroma uses ART everywhere; as a result, Xposed unofficial doesn't work.

Typically any ROM should work assuming they don't use ART everywhere.
As I've reiterated before, Xposed is not officially supported on Android 5.1 just yet.

VZW XT1060 DevEd: On Krypton 1.4, not official ROM...

I have VZW Moto X XT1060 Developer Edition with 4.4.4. I thought it was on standard factory ROM, but apparently it was on Krypton 1.4 and obviously, no OTA for me!
As this is my daily driver, I can't really take it completely out of service for extended periods. I had this phone pretty dialed in with Xposed and all the rest, but I imagine I'll have to nuke everything and start over with Xposed L.
I did install TWRP but it's mainly to do a backup with OTG microSD adapter.
Any recommended course of action?

In the same exact boat bro, business has to continue. As of now and probably for the next week I'll stick to my daily driver. Running debloated stock 4.4.4 via Titanium Backup with xposed tweaked to my fancy.
It's only a matter of time till we get our hands on a flashable Zip

Where do I find xposed for Lollipop? After finding this and following instructions it led me to believe its the "..sdk22-arm.zip" Is this the correct installer?

Yes, use the sdk22 (that's Lollipop) and arm which is the CPU in the Moto X.
FYI, sdk23 is Marshmallow.
I have the factory 5.1.1 5.1 all dialed in now with Xposed and other modules, rooted and everything, of course. Haven't decided if I want to play with ROM themes yet, as I prefer a dark theme over a light one.

What did you flash to get 5.1.1? I thought the factory version was stuck at 5.1 and that the only 5.1.1 options were third-party ROMs like OctOS and AICP. My wife's phone is in a similar predicament, it's running Krypton 4.4.4 right now and I want to get it running Lollipop, I was thinking of this stock ZIP.

FYI @Jacquestrapp I had manually flash the modem using ADB and MFASTBOOT. I'm currently on the debloated 5.1 and its working well. Expect to wait a few minutes on the first boot up after flashing ROM

here are my two recommendations for LP:
custom: NeXus Experience
pros:
- can install a custom kernel
- contains privacy features so that you can block wake locks, etc
- no need for xposed as all tweaks/mods are already built in
- best battery life
- developer is currently working on a build for 6.0
cons:
- Active moto display will not work (but ambient display works just fine)
stock: Stock
pros:
- most reliable
- moto active display works
cons:
- need xposed to get personal tweaks
- xposed & Gravity box still have some issues (but working for me)
- still some bloat in the debloated version, but that can be adjusted
overall, both are fine. bluetooth works fine on both (in both my car and watch)
I've used both, but keep coming back to NeXus
