[Q] How to install new recovery? - Motorola Atrix HD

Well i currently have CWM, and want to install philz touch, do i need to go back to stock rom, and root and unlock bootloader again, i don't want to loose all my data

You could use a tool to do it or flash it if it's flashable. There is no need to to anything else but what I mentioned before. At least, that's what I've done in past experience

+1. Just download the flashble zip, copy it to sd card, flash it from your existing custom recovery.

[Q] why is cwm recovery not working?

I have installed cwm on my friends phone (galaxy mini) via odin. When i booted into recovery it said he couldn't mount /cache/recovery. So i installed root explorer on his phone and i saw there are no files in that folder! In my phone there is a file... so i was wondering if someone has installed cwm (i believe it was 5.2.7) and knows how to solve this. Maybe i could try using this file of someone else with same recovery.
Long story short: does anybody know a solution or does anybody wants to upload this file?
Sorry for bad english if i made any mistakes

simple way is to download file and usb to phone, the zip file. Do Not unzip it.

stock?
Dont use CWM on stock if u dont want to flash rom
It will give problem
Well... first i had tried installed cwm using a normal .zip file. Same problem. Then was when i actually installed via odin. After that i gave up and asked for help here. So i think it isnt the fould of the recovery. So could anyone upload the file in the next location, just to try : /cache/recovery
So i can put the file inside this folder and maybe it will work again.

Dont use custom recovery on stock, if you want install custom rom, just wipe data/cache and it will mount system, data
So i shouldn't use cwm to install rom? Indeed, installing a new rom is the goal

don't worry error in mounting cache is normal, you can use it safely for installing and wiping
However also in the my stock recovery give a error in the cache partition but to me give the error of unmounting, says unmount(/cache); attempt 1 unknow error=0 rc=0, and later i must and will inform about this error.

you can always cut and paste the url, then remove the http:// and replace the dots in the beginning of the url with spaces. for example - the link to this thread would be: forum xda-developers com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=30651238

google now made my bluetooth act funky when trying voice commands, tried to use bootstrap to recover my backup and it failed on system.
I am now doing a fastboot restore
you have been warned.
I know the feeling...been through that with my Atrix, Bionics, RAZR, etc...thank God for the fast boot files! I'll grab those now...
Any additional details would be helpful. Did you try to flash the restore to stock file before trying to flash your back up? And did you use bootstrap to make the original back up or safestrap?
Thanks

I made the backup with the razr bootstrap, tried to restore the backup, it failed on restoring system.
I restored data manually (advanced) then it would go to the red M screen, then a blank screen with the backlight on.
I tried booting into stock recovery and a factory reset, didn't work.
Fastboot did though

Downgrade from ICS to JB

So I received my Razr I today and it already has JB on it
So I was wondering, any chance that I could downgrade it to ICS?
From what I've read on xda and some German forums it did work for some people...
I'm referring to this threat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184877
So in the end, is it possible or not?
Thanks in advance!
Yes, you should definitely be able to do this. You need to install a custom recovery on to your device to start with. I think the ROM Manager app on the Play Store supports your device. If you download it you can flash CWM Recovery onto your device. Then you need the zip file for the ICS stock firmware which can be found easily by Googling it (I've already seen it so it exists). Once you've moved the zip file on to your SD card, boot into recovery and install the zip file and you should be back to ICS stock.

But for CWM I need root, for root I need unlocked BL and I don't have it and also don't want to unlock my BL.
So, locked BL JB -->locked BL ICS
Then you must stay with unrooted JB. Downgrade to ICS with RSD is not possible afaik.

Nexus One wont boot past boot animation and needs rooting

So I've had a nexus one for a while now, and recently I decided to root it. I managed to unlock my bootloader and flash clock work recovery. I then made a stupid mistake of trying to flash a rom before rooting my phone or backing up my rom. When I power on my phone now it just freezes on the boot animation. The only thing I can do is access recovery. What is the easiest way to root my nexus one in this condition or is there anyway of flashing a rom, hence fixing it? Preferably from a Mac but I may be able to get access to windows or linux. Thanks in advance

Turn off your phone, pop your SD card in your comp and copy the su.zip into it. Pop it back into your phone, boot into recovery and flash it on. Voila, root access!
Then wipe cache, dalvik-cache and all those and reflash the ROM again. You should be good to go.
BTW. I hope you are flashing a ROM which needs a stock HBOOT. Coz for JB ROMs, custom HBOOT is needed. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the help! Do you know of any JB or ICS roms that do not require a special HBOOT? And where is the download for the su.zip you mentioned? Thanks a lot
All newer ROMs have a larger system partition requirement, why not flash an older gingerbread ROM that doesn't require black rose until you get the hang of flashing.
You don't need to flash superuser or busy box or anything first, just wipe all in recovery, flash ROM (plus anything else needed like gapps) reboot

@demkantor is right. Basically you don't need su.zip coz most ROMs will have that flashed in already. I think the problem you were facing was because you did not wipe your cache/dalvik-cache and data before flashing on the ROM.

Once unlocked, can't relock & get OTA?

Hello,
So I just want to clear something out. So once I have used a the Asus app and unlocked my tab, I CANNOT relock it again? Also once unlocked, I can no longer receive OTA from Asus and therefore have to download it manually?

Yep, it's a one-way process.
But we can still download the official update from Asus and flash as long as we are on stock recovery, correct? And if i'm not mistaken, we can always revert back to stock recovery. Just can't go back to a locked bootloader.

You can't flash the stock firmware from cwm. You need to fastboot flash the stock recovery from droid basement and then extract the stock zip onto your internal card and boot that way. Alternatively you could just flash my stock ROM in the Dev section.
Why do you want to go back to pure stock?
Wow lol I spend hours trying to flash through CWM. thank u very much sdbags. I wanted to revert back because, lol my WiFi was acting wiered with the ROM. some apps like "showbox" worked fine with stock, but with cromi it would go very slow and take really long to load a list of movies or shows. I Donni maybe wifi drivers are not same on cromi? Anyway, thanks for the stock installation solution.

Why don't you just flash my Asus Stock ROM first? It's 99.9% the Asus files - just with ROOT added.
I haven't tested the following but if you MUST flash the Asus Stock from a PC you would do it using the following. I won't take any responsibility if you brick and you do this at your own risk. Personally if I were you I wouldn't do it this way as flashing my Asus Stock will do EXACTLY the same. Note that the below instructions are for 4.2.2. Be warned - it will erase the bootloader so if it doesn't flash properly you will brick permanently.
