So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

No problem. At this point I think you may just not have root... but first, go ahead and go into bootloader (power off, then power on while holding power and vol down). Does your device say unlocked?
*Just a clarification*
You have to unroot your phone to get rid of it Idk why I put uninstall/reinstall earlier...still out there from last night I guess.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

Really don't know that info, however if you want to get root but don't want to wait there are other ways to do it. Let me know if you are interested and I will post them up. Consider though it will take longer than it would using the toolkit.

I'll try pretty much anything. I've rooted several devices, so findind a new way for another one won't hurt. Only thing that I really would like to do is avoid making a gold card, but if you have to do that I think I will wait for the toolkit. Thanks!! Do you know if it's possible to temp root, flash a kernal with cwm, and then flash a rom?
Here is what you need to do to root your phone, etc.
First thing is to download android sdk:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
It will allow you to send files to your phone from your computer-no s-off so can't flash kernel in recovery only fastboot.
While that is downloading if you haven't already you need to unlock boot loader by going to:
http://htcdev.com/
Don't forget to keep the unlock code so if you need to relock your boot loader.
Next, it sounds like you want to flash a custom rom. If so the best one in my opinion is found here:
http://www.wcxxperia-nce.com/index.php
You have to register to see the vivid section.
Once there you will download the zip file, put a copy on your phone, the other copy unzip and place the boot.img and wcx recovery in the same folder that you have the fast boot file that you downloaded earlier from sdk.
Then you put your phone into hboot mode, plug it in to usb port, make sure on phone screen is says fast boot usb in red.
Then open command prompt in your folder with fast boot by clicking shift and the right mouse button.
Type in these commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery wcxrecovery.img
After those steps power down phone, unplug from computer, return to hboot, click on recovery, then flash the zip file that you placed on there earlier.
That's it, you got it root and all.
Also if you do use his rom, restart phone 3 times to settle phone in and cycle battery 3 times to make sure everything is working correctly.

We just need S-OFF so we can simplify this entire thing by using CWM. It's so much easier being able to flash a scripted .zip package in there than dealing with fast boot.

True, I just wish I knew how long "scripting" takes. I know the video is very clear, and that I'm very good with technology, however I do think that there is a good chance I might mess up...thus I believe I will wait, but I will do some more research be4 deciding what to do

I've never done it myself but it shouldn't be that difficult. I think I'm just spoiled coming from the Inspire - it was rooted, S-OFF'd, and had a few custom ROMs up the within a couple days of its launch. The level of development for that device was extreme from the very beginning.
Sent from my HTC Vivid
True, I still have an Inspire and the development is still booming. I personally just wish HTC would have made the Vivid as dependable as the Inspire, bc my Vivid has all sorts of problems. Turns off randomly, and each time when it turns back on it says "upgrading android" and then it optimizes the apps for ICS. Most of the time it won't flip my pictures(rotate)<--yes auto rotate is on...but all in all HTC went down in quality with the Vivid. Personally this is why I want to root, that way I don't have to worry with HTC screwing up the update.
it does work but i have found that busybox isnt installed/installed correctly and have had to install it from the market for titanium backup to recognize my root.
A reply to numerous posts...you don't need S-OFF on the Vivid, developers have yet to figure out how to do so. It's rumored some users have received their phones shipped with S-OFF, but to my knowledge it's not because of any modifications.

I have attempted to Flash my own recovery, but am unsure as to which .img file to use and also which option in the bootloader to select. I've searched all throughout these forums, but to no avail
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

So, there is no way to root this device without unlocking it first? I've also read that after you unlock, you loose some apps & obviously OTA updates......4.2.2 is rumored to be out for this device any time now. Is there anyway to preserve those apps, possibly update phone (even manually) or just root without unlocking?

you won't loose any apps if you unlock, you will lose all of your files though... and you can still receive OTAs is you are unlocked, you just need to have the stock rom and a stock recovery...
Success (relatively painless)
I'd like to add my success story as a hopeful note for other noobs who are sweating it.
I'm a complete noob with recovery and rooting. Luckily I had the distinct advantage of skipping the whole bootloader unlocking sequence, thanks to having the Developer Edition whose bootloader comes unlocked. (I wasn't sure if I should use Hasoon2000's T-Mobile kit, since I'm using a T-mo SIM, or if I should use his generic HTC One M7 kit, so I chose the latter and luckily it was a good choice.)
I studied this video tutorial by TheSmokingAndroid, took notes, watched it again, said a little prayer to the green guy in the sky, watched some more tutorials, read some tutorials, read 50 pages of xda forums, panicked, de-panicked, steeled myself, then watched the video again. Then I dove in.
While not every step had the exact results that TheSmokingAndroid depicted in his video (combination of user error by me and the HTC One apparently being somewhat finicky), while not every step was an exact match, a little persistence and staying calm resulted in full root in about 1/2 an hour once I actually got started, and no major calamities.
So thanks TheSmokingAndroid and thanks Hasoon2000!
(If you're a noob, consider making a small donation like I did to keep these guys going.)
Happy rooting.

I receive tons of PMs and can forget who I responded to, since I am on my phone majority of the time. Anyone is allowed to make a video using my toolkit. I just do not permit people to repost my work on another site. All official toolkit threads will be on XDA and all the toolkits will be uploaded to ONLY my Dev-Host account. I do not authorize mirrors of my toolkits (since anyone can just repack it with a virus and blame me for it). However, my apologies if I did not get back to you. factory reset
Hi, I recently unlocked my bootloader and rooted my HTC One and flashed the cyanogen rom. However, I want to now go back to the original software that came with my phone, but I did not backup my phone on twrp recovery. I do not care about my user data, I just want to go back to HTC Sense. Could anyone help me go back to the factory default os reset? Also my phone is from T-mobile if that helps.
I'd personally like to know how to pull the stock recovery image from my device for later use, rather than using someone else's. I've already searched but I'm directed to the stock recovery image already posted here. Isn't there a way to make the image flashable rather than pushing it through with ADB?

What does unlocking the bootloader do?
Is it just for installing custom roms?

how can i unlock it? do i need to follow the video and unlock the bootloader? is there anything extra that I need to do?

Hi, recently the screen broke on my 2 week old HTC One.
Amazon were kind enough to send me a new one, but I had modded the hell out of the first one (using various online tutorials to root and then ROM it), and now have the need to return it.
So I followed various tutorials to try and restore it back to 100% stock. (Didn't bother making it "Locked" rather than "Unlocked").
What I did was I used the HTC One All-In-One Toolkit, and "relocked bootloader". I then tried to flash the RUU, all went well, but when I try to start it up after, it gives a blank black screen. However, after giving it a while, holding the power button, or pressing the back button sometimes results in a vibration, so I'm presuming that it is starting, but not displaying anything. I was hoping that my phone would come up in windows so I could re-flash twrp and flash Sense that way, but it does not appear.
I tried factory resetting in this state, but when I try boot it up after that, a logo comes up which is a phone, with 2 green arrows forming a circle inside it, then a green arrow pointing down inside that.
Also, flashing twrp.img seems to go well, but when select "recovery", nothing happens, it just seems to boot up normally.
I am now at a loss of ideas, as this process was suggested by all the sources I could find, and it works perfectly for them, see no reason for it not to for me.
If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please, please respond as quickly as possible, it has to be with Amazon by the 4th, and I have no clue what to do!
Thanks,
-Accudio

Thanks a lot guys, you've been a great help! 2 more questions for you if you don't mind:
1. The ROM I found doesn't seem to work properly, so have you got any ideas of ROMs of Sense 5, no root, so it will appear to amazon that it is stock, even if it isn't exactly, or do you know where I can get an RUU and how to flash it to get my phone back to exactly stock?
2. This won't be a big deal, but how could I achieve S-OFF to revert my HTC recovery to say "Locked" rather than "Tampered" and "Relocked"
If they aren't possible, no big deal, just would be nice if I can. Again, thanks a ton, you've saved my neck! xD
EDIT: I am downloading a different ROM to try, so hopefully that will work better.

1. Just download a stock odexed rom from the development section. There are many to choose from.
OR
Pick a RUU from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
2. Use this link to do that. Then read the instructions on how to reset the flags.
Did amazon really replace your broken phone for free? Thats what I call customer service. Too bad I bought mine from ATT.

Did amazon really replace your broken phone for free? Thats what I call customer service. Too bad I bought mine from ATT.

Yeah, I dropped it onto my carpet and the screen cracked pretty majorly, so I contacted HTC pretty annoyed (as you can expect), and they said that I must have had a dodgy model for it to have broken so easily. Amazon was reluctant but because I had HTC's word they sent me a free replacement.

I have HBOOT version 1.54, so as the Revone thread says I cannot use that. Is there any other way or will I just not be able to do it? Had a quick look and couldn't find anything.

ohhh..that might be a problem. How did you manage to get on hboot 1.54? I don't think there is a S-off method for that yet. Do you still have the unlockcode.bin from when you unlocked it the first time?

I don't know, if I remember correctly it was actually on that when I got it, not certain though. I do have my first unlockcode.bin saved.

You should be able to unlock your bootloader again with the unlockcode.
If I'm not mistaken, in order to flash a RUU you need to:
- Flash stock recovery.img through bootloader+fastboot
- Flash stock boot.img through bootloader+fastboot
RUU should flash now whether bootloader is locked, unlocked or relocked.

as long as you used that file to unlock this phone, then it will work.
Ok, I'm getting an error saying:
"Unfortunately, HTC Sense has stopped."
and also
"Unfortunately Contacts Storage has stopped."
I had the Contacts srtorage one with my old S2, which I fixed by clearing data of contacts storage, but the one about HTC sense stops anything from working.

if you have a pc, before you push the rom to your phone, open the zip file and delete the apk in /system/app/supersu.apk
I NEED HELP WITH THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856
how my phone is now
HTC one m7 rooted S-off unloacked
Hboot 1.55
4.4.2
4.06.651.9
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-m7wls
I did everything in the video
using Fast boot with the Modified Firmware everything went ok with no problems
I did not even get the "please flush image again immediately" thing
after booting back into the phone I find out that nothing has changed what so ever
& I know what to look for because my mom has the same phone all up to date but with out root & s-off etc...
I want this update real bad so I can turn off blinkfeed & you can only do that on Sense 5.5 or higher.
Well the place where you go to turn it off is not there :crying:
I'm no noob but I don't do this kind of updating everyday
so what am I doing wrong????
Are you trying to use that RUU?
If so you will need to flash the full firmware first then the RUU.
Now my phone is fubar!!!!!!
I was trying 5.03.651.3_modified_firmware_RUU.zip when I did it
the full what??
be descriptive
and to make matters worst I have ****ed up the OS.
I got sick of w8ing for help so I tried doing the full 5.03.651.3_firmware_RUU.zip
it will no longer boot into the OS
all I got now is Hboot & twrp This is bull **** there has got to be easier ways then this
So now what do I do????????????????????????????
The good news I'm now on Hboot 1.57
I know it's frustrating but easy with the swear words.
Run the RUU and you should be good.
I need help!!!!!!
ok dude I'm not trying to be an ass H
I'm just realy realy realy Fing mad
so if you are not going to give me step by step instructions
then your not going to be much help to me
I'm no pro at this
so to recap my HTC one is fubar & all I got is Hboot 1.57 & twrp-2.8.0.2-m7wls
I went into twrp & did a wipe on sys in the hope that would fix
so I did the wipe & went back to Hboot & flash boot the 5.03.651.3_modified_firmware_RUU.zip & now when I boot into the OS
all I get the white HTC screen & nothing more
is there anyone who is going to help me?????
Well looks like it a brick now
nothing I do is fixing this
not 5.03.651.3_modified_firmware_RUU.zip
not 5.03.651.3_firmware_RUU.zip
and I tried rolling back to the old one modified_firmware_4.06.651.9.zip
no matter what I do all I get the white HTC screen & nothing more :crying:
looks like I will have to go to sprint tomorrow :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Flash Full Firmware
Run RUU
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG! dude you are killing me "give me step by step instructions"

-Download Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_5.03.651.3_RUU.zip
-extract zip to a folder on your pc
-boot into bootloader (various ways)
-using fastboot, type this cmd: fastboot oem lock this will relock the bootloader (S-ON ONLY)
-from pc, run ARUWizard.exe from the extracted folder. it will run the RUU utility & flash back to stock
OK I'm downloading that now
OK I'm downloading that now, its big so will take 19 min to D/L
but why do I need that one?
why can't I use the 5.03.651.3_modified_firmware_RUU.zip?
just so I know for next time...

You need to RUU because you wiped your OS in twrp.
The modified firmware does not include hboot/recovery/boot.img(kernel)
The reason you don't have an OS is you wiped it in twrp.
Build number/Software won't change unless you flash a 5.03.651.3 rom.
The best way to check if it worked is to check the baseband to see if it changed.
ok its working again
ok its working again
I did not know that was the file I needed, I thought that's a stock rom so why would I want that
so I went for the other files.
This RUU app is new to me.
Thank you for helping me I just feel the way this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856 post was typed up did not help me at all (I was lost)

@BD619 your a saint with the patience of a monk...you help people all day long that can find the answers by simply searching but they are at least grateful for your help... But then you go a step further and help people like this.

no the OS was Fed up before I did that sys wipe .
I only did the sys wipe because I thought that would help fix it what the modified firmware Fed up by removing the bad OS & retry installing the modified firmware.
before that I did the modified firmware & it soo did not work!!!!!
so I don't know what happened but I do know that post with the update was really vague for someone who does not do this kind of thing often.
I do have a?
& that is next time I do this
will it keep the app-data? or is there away to back that up
my phone is fine but I lost all app-data witch is kind of a pain in the but having to go over all the settings for all of my apps

perfect example of why not everyone should be rooting their phones.
