Play store 403 error on new Moto X - Moto X Q&A

I just got a Moto X on Android 4.2.2 from Amazon in Germany. As it is a present for my wife I wanted to install everything for her so she can use it out of the box...
As soon as I logged in to her Google account I got some messages about updates for apps. So I tried to update them, but every app gives me the "couldn't download (403) error". Even if I try installing new apps it gives me the same error.
Now I've searched and tried some different things:
- switch from WiFi to 3G
- try different WiFi network
- clear cache on Play Store app
- clear cache on Play service
- clear cache on Download manager
- removing and re-adding the Google account
- doing a factory reset
Nothing works. I am now just on the verge of packing everything and sending it back to Amazon. After all the rave reviews I was expecting a great device, but I never had any problems with Android phones before and I've had my fair share of Android phones over the past 5 years or so.
Anybody got any idea how to fix this?

Remove proxy in apn settings. Write it down tho...in case you need to put it back.
Reboot after. Make sure proxy is still gone.
Then clear playstore cache, play services and Google framework caches.
Reboot. Try play store.

I had the same problem after updating to 4.4.2.
I force closed and cleared play store cache and the same for google service framework + a reboot and it worked.

[Q] Google Play Store issues, not updating or downloading from web

Hey all.
i recnetly flashed @hashcode's unofficial CM10 found here. I didn't like it enough to keep it, so i switched back to stock ICS using Safestrap v3.05. I go into the Play store today from my desktop to download something, and the item never pushes to my device. after checking my Play Store settings, i see that instead of "Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic" (or whatever), my device is listed as "Unnamed Device" instead of "Phil's Bionic" and the device type is "Verizon Motorola XT875."
Additionally, i check the play store on my phone, and i had several updates. i click to update them, but they just sit in the "downloading" section, but not actually downloading. I'm not sure where to go from here. i hope i haven't borked too much and have to restore from a backup, or if i have to "unlink" my account with google. i'm not even sure how i would go about doing that. Any advice?
Go into mange apps, find Google services framework and clear data, then find play store and clear data, reboot and try again. That has fixed my downloading issue in the past.

do you know if this will fix the issue with pushing downloads from the desktop?

Google Play services not supported?

I'm getting the error message, "Google Play services, which some of your applications rely on, is not supported by your device." Google Now says, "To continue using Google Now, you need Google Play services, which is not supported by your device. Please contact the manufacturer for assistance." WTF? I tried clearing the app's data and rebooting, but no dice. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No go. Any suggestions?
It was working fine before. I don't know what I did to break it, but it's frustrating. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, wiping dalvik & cache, and fixing permissions. No go. Any ideas?
Please, someone help me with this.

I have the same issue. Now previously worked, now doesn't.
Is it possible that this is related to the device ID? I have flashed several different ROMs lately and back to may daily driver. I don't recall if I maintained or changed the device ID.

I don't know, but I flashed another ROM, HyperDroid AOXP, to be exact, and haven't had any problems since.
Hey man I just got this tonight and fixed it. I can't say exactly what fixed it but what I did was unfreeze ALL my apps from titanium backup, clear the data from google play in applications manager and uninstalled the update. After resetting my phone and freaking out for about 5 minutes, my phone connected to google play and reinstalled google play services and worked again. So I may have done more than I needed to but it worked
I had the same message as the OP, and Google Keep was having issues due to not having Google Play services working. I tried to clear the data from google play services and google play in applications manager ... but I didn't have the option to clear data from Google Play services, and I didn't have Google Play at all listed there ... and that's how I found that my Play Store was gone altogether! So I just found a Google Play store apk online and sideloaded it, and I'm working again since then.

Google play store apps download problem (error code : 497)

I am on android MRA58K and my google play store stopped working for most of the applications including google apps when I am on wifi (works on cellular ). I have removed and re-added my google account. Did not work. Then factory reset the device and no use. And now I can not update most of the application. Cleared cache for google services and play store app as well with no success. Some people suggested changing the DNS to google DNS on the router might work. In my case that did not work. Help is appreciated.
Note: I am on unmodified stock.
Go into settings apps, clear data for Google play store, Google play services and Google services framework. Reboot phone. See if that works.

Miraculously everything started working normally this morning without me doing anything. GPS can download and update all the apps as it was doing before. None of the suggested remedies did in the forums did not work yesterday and today everything came back to normal. I guess it is something outside my phone caused this problem. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Google Play Services Problem - Exhausted Every Solution I know Of.

So just today (June 14th), on my Galaxy Note 5 N920I (Android Marshmallow), a lot of my apps started to crash. Here's a list:
TypeApp
Pocket
Google Opinions
Calendar
Google
Google Play Store
Best Buy
Now, the first thing I did was to wipe the cache and data of Google Play Services, then Services Framework. After that didn't work, I did the same for all the Google Apps.
One that didn't work, I tried to wipe the cache partition, which did not solve the problem.
Then I tried uninstalling Google Play Services Updates and reinstalling via an APK. This also did not work.
I then tried removing my Google Account, which was a huge mistake. I now cannot add my Google Account or even log into the Play Store because, each time, I am hit with the error "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has Stopped".
So now I am locked out of any Google Apps and most of the apps on my phone will no longer work as Google Play Services crashes as soon as they try to load.
I now have no other solutions that I know of. Any insight would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

hi ,
you don't say if you are on stock Rom , rooted ,used Package Disabler /or something similar /or disabled any apps .??If you using Xposed Framework etc. ?
( this could have a" knock on" effect re Google Play issues etc )
Have you tried flashing " correct latest stock" Rom for your device ?
good luck
Would you like to try factory reset?
Good luck to you.

Play Store issues in EU Rom

The issue in particular is that the Play Store on this ROM seems to think that I'm somewhere I am not. I am in NYC, USA yet when I attempt to find certain apps in the Play Store they won't show up. The two apps in particular are AMEX and Amazon Shopping.
Yes, I know I can probably find the APKs for them somewhere but that isn't the point. I want the Play Store to work the way it's supposed to. Here is what I've tried to remedy the problem:
- stuck a US sim card in the phone
-put location settings on
- signed in and out of Google account
- cleared data and cache in Play Store
- used spoof location app
- added another credit card to Google Wallet
- made sure my Google account is linked to US address
None of these things have worked for me. I have no idea what the problem is. Is the version of GAPPS that comes with the EU Rom not capable of showing US specific apps? Is there such a thing as a US Play Store APK? What exactly tells the Play Store where a user is located? I'm at my wit's end with this crap. It's the small things like this that infuriates me and makes me want to get rid of this phone.

This seems to be an isolated issue as others aren't facing it.
Since you already have TWRP on your phone now, just boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. To boot into recovery, open the Updater App> Click the three dots on the top right corner> Boot into Recovery
After you have wiped cache and dalvik, reboot and see if play store works fine.
If it doesn't resolve the issue, try re-flashing the ROM.
First perform a full-wipe in TWRP. For this, choose the Wipe option in TWRP and simply use the slider at the bottom. You don't need to select anything in the boxes above. It performs a full wipe by default.
Now, assuming you already have the ROM file on your phone storage, locate it and flash it. Make sure to Wipe cache\Dalvik cache after flashing is complete.
Don't forget to flash SuperSU after flashing the ROM for root.
