[Q] Problem with Battery save option! - Moto X Q&A

Hi, I'm having some trouble to activate the battery save option in the Moto X. First I thought it was a system problem, because when I choose "On", if I scrool down and then scroll up again the option goes back to "Off". But after a factory reset the problem went away whitout any apps installed, but after I installed some apps, the problem appeared again.
Did anyone knows what's going with my phone???

Using art runtime? I think that's the culprit

Did you disable Moto assist? For some reason you need it enabled to use battery saver. Then your basically using more battery than your saving. Lol

Reducing Camera Noise?

ANYWAY to reduce it? Maybe using another app? Or messing with the settings on the moto x camera?

I can only assume you're talking about the "silent camera" add on. This is for turning off the SOUND the camera makes (which is unnecessary as this is already an option in the app). I believe OP was talking about noise as in signal noise, not sound

[Q] what flashlight app do you use?

any recommended lightweight app?
I use the torch built into Gravitybox

droidlight - its all budget all the time but its from Motorola Mobility, so it should be 100% safe to use.
Torch toggle from gravitybox.
Does it make much difference? I am using the Motorola one but I'm wondering why you would ask - do different apps provide a brighter light?
The one I linked above is super simple.open it, the light turns on.open it again, it turns off.easy as could be

I'm not sure what is the Motorola one? Do you mean Droidlight LED Flashlight? Looks it will automatically turn off when screen time is up.

That's the Droidlight LED Flashlight, I saw some comments that it will automatically turn off when the screen time is up, do you have the same issue?
No, but motto puts a time limit on the led. I assume it is to protect the led from over heating.

TeslaLED

Been using this one since my Driod 1. Lets you use screen or LED and seems to be very lightweight (would have posted the actual link, but I never really posted to XDA... just mainly read. Need to get rid of the stupid post restriction)
I use the flashlight in Power Toggles. I keep a set of toggles on a lock screen widget (WiFi, sound mode, Bluetooth, flashlight, GPS) and the flashlight is one of them.

TeslaLed, you can set a widget with it that automatically turns it on. It also has strobe options I believe. But it also works great with Tasker as it is built in as a plugin or 3rd party options. I exported an app with Tasker App Factory so I can activate it via voice as well.

ART runtime on moto x

I am on a Verizon moto x and wondering if I should switch to ART runtime or if it will brick my device in some way?

I switched when I got this phone two weeks ago... no bricking or anything. I haven't measured anything but the phone feels quick and smooth.
It won't brick your device but do note that ART is in an alpha stage and not all apps are compatible with it yet, so you may not be able to run everything you can with Dalvik
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I used art for a couple of weeks. It FELT a little quicker, but only slightly so, and this could have been a placebo effect. I'm back on dalvik, now--mostly because xposed framework is not compatible with art.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
i don't personally feel it's a substantial enough speed increase and i have yet to see any type of battery increase. however, the primary benefit of ART is applications are compiled as they are installed, which means shorter load times and better usability. dalvik requires compilation at the launch of the app. if your dalvik cache is cleared, or gets too large, there can be complications with load times, system performance, etc. (which is why so many people suggest clearing that cache).
the fundamental benefits of ART are the reasons i chose to stick with it.

Xposed doesn't work on ART. It automatically switches to Dalvik everytime you try to use ART. You've been using Dalvik for a long time and you didn't even noticed. One more reason to believe ART (at least on Moto X) is just placebo.

I used ART for about a week before returning to Dalvik for the Xposed Framework, and I definitely have better battery life using Dalvik. I'd noted this in another topic and another member had replied in agreement. He'd also noted better scrolling in some apps but lesser battery life using ART. Now, that's not saying you'll get 3 hours screen time using ART versus 4.5 using Dalvik, but the difference was enough to be noticeable.

I was using ART once 4.4 got pushed to our phones.
I turned it off once I saw all the changes for ART that went into 4.4.1 and 4.4.2, so once we get 4.4.2 I'll turn it back on....that is if i can give up xposed.
I will only switch to ART once Xposed is compatible with it. Until then Dalvik it is.

I made the same mistake, thinking I was still on ART after installing Xposed Framework. The installer doesn't notify you that it's switching you back to dalvik. Your only indication of this change is when you get the 'android is updating' message upon rebooting.

Totally agree. I have great battery life and stability as well. I've used art almost from very beginning.
I've been using ART on stock 4.4.2 rooted and its been great. No problems with any of the apps I used, but I also don't use xposed. I didn't notice any differences in battery life between ART and Dalvik. :good:

Hey - coming in from my photo thread to tell you that after switching to ART I had no problems with FV-5, and I checked afterwards to make sure I was still set to ART, which I was.

I take it back. I am unable to get my moto x to boot iwith ART. I set it as an option, but something is causing it to default to dalvik during boot. I uninstalled Xposed but that did not change the result.
I have an "android is upgrading", with each power on for 4 items now. Unrooted & 442.
Seems strange to me.
Has anyone found a way to get the long press volume to skip track mod on art? That mod is the only think keeping me on dalvik because I use it a ton.

Bump Bump Bump Bump = 4!

moto x performance

Has anyone notice their x get slower over time? In the first month mine was great but now I notice a bit of lag. While an app is updating its almost useless to try and do anything else. I don't have that many apps installed and I'm on stock 4.4.2 art.
I have noticed this on occasion. A couple things seem to help me. 1. Hitting the recent apps button on the nav bar and swiping some apps away seems to help. 2. If that doesn't help, a restart will usually does the trick.

No. I remain extremely satisfied with the performance of this phone!

Phones only slow down cause of the apps installed.
If its very noticeable.... Sometimes backing up apps and data and doing a factory reset is a good idea. A fresh start.

Only time I really notice lag is when apps are updating.
Install Greenify

Sounds like it's an app running. My MotoX can update apps no problem; I'm on Dalvik with 10+ Xposed Modules running. Pretty sure it's just an app.
It's the app. I got mine stock rooted and never slows down for a few months now. Even after a bunch of apps installed.
So figure out which one causing it. Unfortunately sometimes it's not immediate so it's really tough to figure out which.
Good luck.

Are you rooted?
I am a moto x user.. i feel very good to use it. Sometime it works slowly because i have many apps install here. For this reason i have used antivirus then it will over slow.. But overall it works good with good performance..:good:
Still best phone ever, battery got better.
And is fast as hell...
No reason to leave it, I would like a bigger screen though

Which battery you have used for your moto x ?

Nfcwakelock gets stuck and keeps phone awake

Anyone have issues with nfcwakelock keeping the phone awake? It's just a solid bar of awake in the battery stats. Turning off location or going to airplane mode will not kill it. Only a reboot will.
I'm running stock 5.1.1 with root.

You can turn it off, but you will need Xposed installed. You can follow this post on reddit.
