Call using voice search gets "No number saved" - Moto X Q&A

After a recent Google Search update I started getting the verbal and screen message "no number saved" when I try to place a call using voice search. I say "call karen xxx on mobile" and it shows the contact and lists the phone number even though it says no number saved. Same behavior for all contacts. Previously this worked perfectly. I then updated to 4.2.2 via the OTA and still have the problem. When I call from my car bluetooth, it also works perfectly as the car had already downloaded the contacts. Has anyone seen this behavior? Should I try an export, delete, import of the contacts? I may just go ahead and do a factory data reset and set it all up again.
edit: Just tried "call karen xxx" and it asked if I wanted mobile, home, or work. I can't make sense of why on one hand is says no number saved and then asks if I want the mobile, home or work number.

"Showing 2 Found" ? Voice Command Response

Since installing the "fixed" version of Voice Command 1.6, which provides for Caller ID Announce, I have gotten this weird, almost unintelligible response from the Voice Command lady when I say "Call _____", for many of my contacts - I thought it was a different language at first, because she spoke so fast - it sounded like "Shelly to fawn" spoken really fast - weird, because most of the Voice Command responses are reasonably slow and articulate. I finally figured out that she is saying "Showing 2 Found", because she finds the named contact in the main memory and in the SIM contacts.
I have SIM contacts hidden, they don't show when I access Contacts, so I don't understand why Voice Command ("fixed") insists on accessing them. Before I installed the "fix", I used the standard Voice Command and Caller ID v1.05 by Bad Sector, and this did not occur.
Has anyone else experienced this anomaly?
SIM Contacts hidden in Contacts, but Voice Command still sees them, causing confusion
I posted this 5 days ago, and not a single reply. Wow.
Similar thread in Wizard forum - apparently this is an issue with WM6 and Voice Command:

I just tried to duplicate this and got the following...
When I said, "Call Joe Smith" and that person is on both sim card and contacts it will say, "Showing two (or more) found, call this Joe Smith?"
If I said no, it then put me into contacts and asked, "call Joe Smith at home or mobile?" So this is not a impossible situation but definitely a pain in the ass.
However, you are right, this is definitely something weird with WM6. I just never noticed it before. I actually occasionally switch phones so deleting #;s off the SIM really isn't an option for me.
Let's see what the real geniuses can figure out.

I am having this same problem on AT&T Tilt. SIM contacts are hidden, don't show in Contacts, but when I say "Call xxx", Voice Command says "Showing 2 Found" (says it so quickly that it took me dozens of listens to figure out what was being said - sounded like "Shelly2Fawn" or some other language when I first heard it.
I know I can delete all contacts on SIM and this issue will go away, but I'd like to have contacts on SIM, because I have a cheap backup phone that I want to be able to use PRN, e.g. go to beach, or in adverse weather situation.

Sounds more like, to me, "please answer or not at home" through my Blueant Z9 via my Tilt when I get an incoming call. FWIW, no cooked ROMs, only the latest ATT ROM.
Duplicate contacts are what causes problem

I'm pretty sure she says "showing 2 found". This only happens if there is a duplicate in Contacts or on the SIM card.
I have a Tilt, and this also happens when I have multiple numbers in a single contact. I'll hear "Showing two found, call ***** at work/home/mobile?" and then a mic prompt (waiting for a yes or no).
I've also heard "Showing three found," but it's kind of rare... I guess most people that need three phone numbers are too intense for me to want to call.
to change the speed of Voice Command perform the following:
1. Start up your Registry Editor program.
2. Find the following:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Speech\Voices
3. Change the DefaultTTSRate string/value:
- 4 (default)
4. Increasing the number will increase the speed of the voice, while decreasing the number will slow it.
Then with your contacts, just rename them so you know who they are - example "Karen Jones" change to "Karen Work Jones".
Hope this helps you

Call Forwarding shortcuts....

Anyone have a shortcut for enabling call forwarding? I always forward to the same number. I would like to be able to use a button or voice command to bring up the call forwarding screen, and then just click yes/OK to enable or disable it. Anyone else using this?
By the way. I have been using ATT's fast forward service for a couple of years. Do I need to continue paying for this, or will the phone redirect the calls?
Thanks,
Tom
Bump. I'd really love to find how to do this also, I'm doing it several times a day ...
On my 8925 phone I created two contacts.
Turn Forwarding On:
_OnForward
*21*5125551212#
(replace 5125551212 with the areacode and phone number you want to forward your calls to)
Turn Forwarding Off:
_OffForward:
##21#
The _ puts the two items at the top of my contacts list. I click contacts and then press call on the selected forwarding option. Sometimes I get an error message "command not supported", but that is related to my phone's connection strength and not the programming. This has been working well for me for about a year. I have tried to make a couple of buttons that dial the contacts directly from another screen, but that hasn't worked. You have to open contacts and the press call on the option you want.

Good morning gents.
I have an HTC TyTN II with Win Mobile 6.1
I created the contacts like that and on my "Favorite People" page I put the contact there, it just says :
"Cannot Complete the call. the Signal may be unavailable or the phone number may not be valid. Verify the number or try again later."
From the contact list it works of course.
Another question regarding call forwarding. Is there a way to have an icon on the top bar that says the call ARE being forwarded... I keep missing a couple of calls that end on my home answering machine because I forgot to forward
Vesperatus-
I have all of your same issues. As far as I know, there aren't any solutions. You just have to remember to unforward your phone.....

Visual Voicemail app, problems! Help!

This issue is concerning the G1 phone.
I recently downloaded an app named, Visual VoiceMail. Its supposed to be somekind of interactive list of all the voicemail I recieve, where I can interact and organize by hand on touch screen compared to calling my voicemail and deleting or saving any of my messages by touchtone.
In order for this app to work I must fill out a free registration form that includes my telephone number.
My issue is, Im not sure if they want the telephone number of my phone (I assume they do) or my voicemail telephone number. Neither phone numbers worked.
I cant figure out why either of these numbers wont work for the registration. Every time I enter in a number and try to sumbit I recieve a notice that says, "!! Registration Failed, Unable to determine this devices phone number."
I went to settings, about phone, my phone number. There was no number listed under 'my phone number' and i dont know why that is.
If anyone has any information on how i can make this app work, or how to fix the status of 'my phone number' so it does have an actual phone number (at this moment there isnt an option to edit 'my phone number') it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

[Q] Dialing Straight Numbers

I've been asking around and nobody seems to know how to dial a number such as 332211. Using a Captivate. When I use the straight dial number it always puts a "-" in the middle 332-211 so the call won't go through. That number is what they call a short code. It's for text messages. I noticed even tv stations have them so you can get text messages about incidents etc.
Thanks

Did you try creating a new contact? Did you try putting *#*# before the number and #*#* after the number?
Thank you for the reply so fast gtg465x. I have tryed the contact create, didn't work. I tryed your *# but when I get to the last #* the phone goes blank. If I hit send the phone goes to the contact list.
like you said its a text message code... like 466453 for texting google...
You need to use your messaging app. not your dialer.
Phone numbers in the US are 7 digits (+area code) not 6.
Use the dialer to make phone calls and the Messaging app for sms texts.
There are also short codes for accessing various settings in the phone that you can enter into the dialer, but those are almost always surrounded by *# like *#06# which will display your IMEI
Hi pietro_spina - Ok that makes sense. However, I don't have a texting service on my phone. I'm trying to use GoogleVoice for texting. After a short search it appears Google isn't set up to let us use 6 digit codes. I tryed it and it doesn't go through. I will keep searching.
Thanks for the answer

If you use the google voice widget (select the text icon... It looks like paper) I have sucess using googles own six digit code. It cant be an empty message though.
The voice widget is part of the google voice app in the market.
P
When you go to google voice then submenu top left is a peice of paper with a pencil on it. Below it says "compose". Is that the one you are talking about? If so I've tryed it and it doesn't work. I did see in one of the reads something about the phone needs to be sms enabled. I wonder if the Captivate can't do it?
It works for me. I dont know what else to say.
I only know one short code. Google search... 466453 put that in the "to" field and as your message type "help" and google will text back some instructions.
Maybe post the short code you are trying to use? Is it some sort of pay code? Google voice might block that sort of thing.
Good Morning pietro_spina - I tryed your 466453 and it worked. It did list as 466-453 in the return message. The one I've been trying is BestBuy 332211 with text of GAMER and it won't go through. Google says error in sent message.
Sorry dude. I guess if they don't have any info about that sort of thing in the google help pages, then you are out of luck I guess.

Can't Voice Dial with "Uconnect" (2014 Chrysler System - Jeep)

Would anyone have any idea why I can't Voice Dial when paired with my new Jeep.
The phone works fine with the Jeep.
I can see all the connects in the Jeep. I can click on any and it connects fine.
All other Voice Activated things work (Nav, Music etc.)
When I try to Dial by Voice it says "Your Favorites List is Empty".
I tried adding contacts to the Favorites on the Phone and on the Jeep and both work if I use the Respective Touch Screen.
I don't know why it's restricted to Favorites in the first place.
I do have several accounts on the phone (Exchange - Work [unsecured], gmail, Hotmail etc.) Only Work Exchange has any contacts. So maybe the Voice Dial is looking in the wrong "account". No idea how to fix it though.
I might wipe it, and just manually add a few gmail contacts and see if that works. It's confused about something.
But everything else works fine.

For that system, make sure you are attempting to use the phone button to activate the VR for phone commands, instead of the general purpose VR button that gets used for tasks unrelated to the phone.
Hmmm,
I'm using the middle VR button on the steering wheel (See attached image). What button should I use?
If I say "Help" after hitting the VR button it says I can say "Call John Smith Mobile" along with Play Artist, Etc.
Maybe you are on to something though.
Ugh, that was it !!
I Pushed the Phone Button instead and it worked perfectly.
Weird that Help said I could say Call and the Error I got. But I'm happy now.
Thanks a million !!
Dealer didn't know either !!
