I have an Alpine on O2 (UK) running all the default software and ROMs.
My mother has some old Samsung phone - black & white text only style.
When I send her text messages, she'll often receive several, all of which say "Incompatible message format"... I'm just sending ordinary SMS.
I noticed today when I was typing a message to her, that in the place where it shows how many characters there are and how many messages it will take, it said 155/3 SMS - meaning there are 155 characters and it will take 3 SMS to send it... Why could this be?
Does anyone know what's going on?
it's because you use symbols that are not standart english.
and when you use them in sms they are send not as ordinary text, but in unicode - thats' why there's 70 letters for 1 sms. On my 2020i on eng. keyboard there is symbol ' near spacebar which is not standart so using it turns sms to be send in unicode.
Your mother's phone doesn't support unicode as I see... so try to use standard symbols only - maybe on your keyboard layout there are others not like mine, but you can determine which it is by typing them all and watching when sms letter limit moves from 160 to 70.
Ahh thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I think it's when autocomplete inserts a nonstandard apostrophe in certain words that will be doing it then.
Turned off the autocorrect thing which adds the nonstandard apostrophe, sent some test messages and its all sorted now. Thanks again.
Do you have smilies / emoticons when composing SMS or MMS ??
I don't ! Empty selection screen for smilies ...................
Touch Diamond German unbranded version 1.37.407.2 GER.
Nope none on my Diamond, running the TLR rom and also before i flashed it there was no smilies or emoticons. Just have to use the semi-colon and full colon to make up the smilies.
odd...in a demo i saw..it showed them..

You're saying that when you send/receive SMS/MMS emoticons show as images rather than text? How do you do this?
Can you post a screenshot?
Thanks
i have smileys in the aucontent folder, but where can i insert them?
i have no option on my keyboard to insert smileys.
I think the stuff in UAContent is for inserting smileys when composing an MMS. I don't think there's a way to get them working in an SMS. Although, please correct me if I'm wrong!
any news for adding emoticons?
i'm using smiley sms do a search will be able to locate it somewhere in this forum it allows u to compose and receive sms with animated smileys brillant software cheers
emote
unfortunately smiley sms is very slow on my HTC Touch HD. All I would like is to get the same "shortcut/tool bar" in SMS writing as I get when typing in the Text field of MMS writing. The one that shows 5 buttons. One that looks like a smiley for inserting smilies, and one that looks like a star, for inserting http links, one for predefined tesx, one for vCard and one for vCalender entry.
Would be VERY useful to have these when writing sms too.
Anyone know if it's possible?
Also:
When writing SMS, almost half of the screen is taken up by the window showing the SMS tat you are replying to. And only one line is shown of the message you are actually typing. Making it very hard to get an overview of what you have typed. Any chance these windows can be ajusted? Maybe even removed?
cheers

when sending an MMS without media content, it asks if I want to send as a SMS...maybe they will send then...
Anyone maybe found a way to put smilies in sms?
bumpy bumpy... i'm interested in this as my girlfriend uses smileys from her sony erricson but all i see if colons and brackets and txt symbols.
hopefully someone will create a hack to do this as its a pain when your used to a sony erricson smileys
I use Smiley sms and in the settingsmenu i only select:
Enable SmileySms
Animated Smilies
Compose Form
Inbox Smiley forms.
This shows the smiley when i recieve them, and i get a small icon on the button of my smsscreen when i compose a new sms. it is behind your keyboard.
This works fine for me and don't feel any slowing down
hey guys,
i'm looking for an app which plays a short sound or sth like that while writing a sms.
like everytime when the max number of characters per sms is reached or if there're just 10 more characters left etc.
i know there is an overview already, but it's always covered by the keyboard ... it's annoying to put it down and up again all the time :/
The sms sending thingy is a html file... i wonder if it would support a script that will make a noise if the counter hits 160.. but i think it's a pocketIE page.. and pocketIE isnt that sophisticated.. i think...
but if you want to send texts that'll never be longer than 160 characters it could be done by not permitting text to be entered over 160 characters..
it's just a theory.. i dont know if this all can be done..!
looks like we'll never know :/
whenever i send a message of more than 160 words, my phone would say 'text message cannot be sent'. i have to RETYPE the whole message and send again before it works.. this only happens when i send a message of more than 160 words. it happened both on the default htc rom and udk's rom, which im currently using. help?
Hy guys,
i got a xperia t with an sms flat, if i write a sms longer than 2 times 160 chars(or some less) the reciver got most of the message correct but than there is a part with random chars .... like:
