Greetings all,
I am writing to solicit help, because my phone is having failures to charge the battery, the battery indicator appears with a exclamation symbol and check the status of it indicates that it is "unknown". When I make the battery charge with the phone off the charging LED blinks red to green constantly.
Is there any chance that the problem is software for mobile?
I realize the question since the phone is not in the United States and can not make use of the guarantee (the phone was purchased about two months ago).
Android version is 4.1.2 and the kernel version is 3.4.10. Additionally since I ran a factory reset.
Truly appreciate all the help you can give me, because I can not make use of the guarantee (the phone was bought from amazon and was transferred to Venezuela).
Um...if the phone is off software has nothing to do with it.
Did you look on Google already??
Um...it could be a defected battery. I had one before on my old phone...it just would never charge.

The problem persists
Hi all,
I am writing again because I could not fix the problem with my htc first. I bought a new battery and the problem persists. When you charge the battery with the phone off, charging for a while until the LED flashes red to green constantly. When I charge the phone is on, the system indicates that the battery status is unknown, being even slower charging (almost 6 hours he was charged, only advanced 6%).
Among the actions that I have made are the following:
1. Changing battery.
2. Updating the operating system.
3. Changing charger.
4. Temperature I checked the battery and it never exceeds 35 °
What do you think that may be failing?

Hi - the up up thing does not always work because people think your problem has been answered - I scan for the non-awnsered posts and see if I can help.
Here we go - does your device charge? Can you remember at what battery level you tried to get the rom downgraded? Best to do a rom flash with the device fully charged.
Plug your device into the proper mains charger (has 1A output) to kickstart the battery back into life. You may have to leave it a while before the light comes on.
Once you can start the device you will probably end up at the bootloader screen (multicolor screen) and you can flash the device from there.
Let us know how you do - i will keep an eye on this thread
thanks for the s-up-ggestion
my english is not so good...what do you mean with "Plug your device into the proper mains charger (has 1A output)"?
maybe i could charge my old imate JAM battery and "pin to pin" connect it to the body of the K-JAM? same battery?
thanx
I mean the mains charger that came with the device - the one that plugs into the socket in your wall - not the usb connection to the computer does not have enough power to kick start your device. I don't think the jam battery will fit and do the job - if it does thats ok
plugged in the wall for few hours...nothing for now.
thanx
Ma il led rosso della ricarica ti si è acceso o non ha dato segni di vita? Hai provato a togliere la batteria e rimetterla? Sopra ti dicono di usare anche l'alimentatore originale... lo hai usato?
has any light come on at all? if not your battery may be gone and suggest you try a new one
niente...più nessun led, né via isb né via presa da muro...la batteria era nuova..il kjam era nuovo non usato.
nothing...no led with usb nor wall plug!!
battery is brand new...the kjam is brand nes, not used or refurbished

As dr puttingham says - try a new charger or battery but you may need to take the device back to where you bought it
We tried first with two brand new batteries, both charged. Didn't show any signs of life until we put it on a good charger for a little while. Most bizarre.

Did you have a G4 phone (search the forum for what this means if you do not know). If you do, then your phone sounds like its bricked (you can search the forum for this too!). I've done the same thing (some rom, same beer glass) when I was trying to downgrade to a 1.x rom for the older BB connect software, and found that a G4 phone will not run a 1.x rom/SPL/IPL. I had to send mine back for repairs and the main motherboard was replaced.
I saw that the Nexus S charger output : 5v - 700mA.
The question is if there will be any damage to the battery/device if'll use different charger : 5v - 1200mA?
No.
It's good to remember that the power source will "push" voltage to a device (so more volts can kill something) but current (milliamps) is "drawn" by the device... so even if the charger was capable of many amps, the phone would only draw as much current as the charging circuits were designed to draw.
i'm using my all same chargerss from my SGS
they work fine, not overheating
the car charger is 2A
I am using my N900 charger with my NS... I believe it is 1200mA... no issues so far.
Any idea why the NS charger has a lower current rating? My buddy tried charging his Droid 2 with my NS charger and it didn't work. Maybe this is why the phone takes so long to charge. Does charging slowly protect battery health? Maybe there were thermal issues charging the phone more quickly?
Surprised the Droid 2 wouldn't charge. Will the Droid 2 not charge on USB power? Max USB current is only 500 mA.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The USB standard stipulates 5v 1amp (1000 milli amp) I thought.
Anything with a higher output is above the standard and typically indicates the device is newer cos it needs more juice.

I have zero problem using ANY charging method as long as it supplies 5 volts.
Usually I use a centralized charger modified from USB hub with power supply to charge the phone and other devices.

Does that mean the Nexus S has no resistance checking like the iPhone? I can use any homebrew charger if I want to?

Hi, I just bought a Capdase car dock with two usb ports for charging: the first port says "1A only" and the other one "1A and 2A".
My unit is a Nexus S, which port should I plug it to?
I've noticed that my battery life seems to have deteriorated recently and I've been wondering if it was the chargers I use. We have micro usb chargers in the house for nexus s, blackberry, htc, and galaxy s, and I use whatever one I pick up. Also have a car charger.
Could I have damaged the battery.
It's not the rom that's eating power as battery is bad no matter what rom I flash.

do this complete drain/charge cycle:
try to completely drain your battery and then charge it until full while its switched OFF. Use the phone normally until its next complete discharge (empty bat), and then charge it again one more time upto 100% while its switched OFF.
i also read somewhere that if you're using the phone while charging (like playing games or browsing), it's confusing the battery and there are some spaces in it that is not being used for a charge. that's why it drains fast coz some room for charging where not used or left blank... that's why they recommend the drain/charge cycle above at least once a month to clean/clear the battery memory or something like that (i cant remember all the jargons).

FOr the battery that we had, it doesnt have any "battery memory".
So long as you charge, it will first use the voltage from the charger rather than from the battery. Just like our computer, when we charge it, it will use AC power while charging the battery.
Draining it to complete zero and charge it to 100% will work on older phone, but not for smart phone nowadays as the battery technology has been improved.
So for those who having battery issue, I would recommend you to use battery calibration after you flash a new rom.
I found that battery calibration very useful as it increased my battery life to 1-2 hours more
You can find that at my signature below.
Bettery tips
A complete drain/charge cycle IS a battery calibration, it will improve battery life on newer batteries too. Even if they do not have "memory".
Somebody else asked if a rapid charge is better or worse for the battery, to that I answer that the slower the better. Faster = heat and heat = damage. Now if those sleep of deaths would stop happening to my nexus s...
Optimize battery for Android
For those of you with battery problem, you gotta recalibrate your phone,
It happens if you jump roms alot or after experiencing random reboots.
This this method i posted on my blog... it helped me...
Optimize battery for Android
Recalibrate your battery,
Charge your phone to 100% (Using nexus s charger app from the market),
Go into recovery-->Advanced--> Wipe battery stats. Now unplug the phone from the charger.( Or use battery calibrator app from market)
Drain it fully to zero till your phone gets switched off,
Now charge it to 100% again in one go.
Now use your phone normally, You'll notice that your battery life will improve in like 2-3 days.
The charger for the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to be a fast charger and many BlackBerry users claim excellent battery life and faster charging times using that charger on their phones versus the standard charger. Has anyone tried that with a Nexus S?
Curious.
Hi everybody
i bought a nexus one in april 2009 and lately my battery won't last a day, so i bought a new battery, a Cameron Sino Technology 2400 mAh,3,7V
unfortunately the new battery won't start, if i attach the phone to the charger the red led is on but the phone will go to a loop boot. if the charger is not attached the phone won't ever start
i checked the battery voltage and it was 3.92, a little too high i think.
do you have some suggestion?
thank you very much
if the phone still works with the old battary, the new one is obviously fake...
Switch off your phone, insert the new battery and charge. Works? Ok, wait 10min. and try to power on. Don't work? Don't use this new battery, can be dangerous for diferent voltage o rare things :/
damn.....
thanks
Hi guys,
I've got a problem with my droid 4. 2 days ago, the battery went to 0% and i had nothing to plug my phone to. So after 20/30 with the phone at 0%, i plugged it to charge it. After an hour, i looked at my phone again and i saw it was stuck on the 'Motorola dual core technology' logo. I rebooted it and went to safestrap. safestrap was saying 99% of battery so i was like "meh, it's full, i can unplug it". I did so, reboot again and then it went down while loading cyanogen. I tried to replug it, go back to safestrap and reflash the rom. but the phone went off while flashing and from now on, it doesn't start anymore. So yeah, i know, this is kinda normal, no more system fail flash blablabla.
Here is the weird point. When i plug my phone in, there is first a GREEN LED with no light on the screen for a couple of minutes, and then i got stuck again on motorola dual core logo. I can acces the AP fastboot mode but it keep saying "low battery, cannot program" even after a full night plugged in. All others options goes directly to motorola dual core logo and then got stuck (even the recovery option is doing this). I've found many topics about it but i'm not very sure where is the problem coming from.
Can you guys explain more to me about this problem ? how can i fix it ? do i need to go McGyver ?
Several possible problems
1. safestrap often does not report correct battery charge
2. if battery is too low, phone can not run charging software.
3.. if software is corrupt , phone can not charge battery.
Don't use use pc to charge, if you have a 5v 1amp/1000ma wall charge or better use that.
you can use the MacGyver method, but there is a risk of frying the phone and/or battery.
You can buy and external universal charger like this , but you will need to remove battery.
If it's a corrupt software issue, you can reflash with a fastboot/factory cable TBH Factory Cable Adapter, or Fastboot Motorola Factory Cable-ebay
see if you can get back to safestrap with, with power off, hold both volume buttons, press power button, at Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, should boot directly to SafeStrap.
see if battery will charge.

Thanks for your reply.
Here is some more informations i might have forgot in my first message (or maybe it wasnt clear).
1) Batttery is too low, and it can't run the program to reflash a motorola ROM. This is 100% sure.
2) Software might be corrupt since it first went blackout when flashing. I need to reflash, but back to #1 i can't flash since no battery.
3) I tried to recharge it with a 5V/2A asus tablet charger, and even after a couple of hours, no ****.
4) i can remove the battery. I have already done it. No problem.
5) i can't get back to safestrap : every time i choose an option other than "AP fastboot" i got stuck on the motorola dual core boot image.

And what if i buy another battery ? like for example and extended battery from mugen power, usually those batteries come with 50% of charge, and this could be enough to flash no ?
An extended battery should have enough charge to boot to safestrap or flash firmware.

Well i got some more work for you sd_shadow, even if it doesnt really have nothing to do with flashing.
It appears that the connectors of my battery were completely dead. I bought a new one. I just put in it and reflashed all the stuff. Looks like it works but ... I have problems getting an image on the screen of my phone !! Is it a problem with flash, a hardware problem ? a problem with battery ?
EDIT : just found it is a bad contact. Got to deal with it i guess ... but any hints to repair it are welome !
to be more accurate, the screen doesnt show anything when the phone is closed but works perfectly fine when open ... this is driving me crazy.

You might want to read this thread on the defective screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552978 although it does not show a solution for it (yet).
the flex cable can be replaced, and is likely problem, when it only works when the keyboard is in a specific position.

Droid 4 take apart
sd_shadow, i request your help !
So, this morning, i finally had the new flex cable and the T3 corkscrew, so i started to open up my phone to change this damn flex cable.
And if i am posting now, it is because i am stuck. After i got the back of the screen off, i started to take up my actual flex cable.
Here are my questions.
Do i need to heat the screen and take it off to take the flex cable off ?
How do i manage to change the cable where it is connected to the screen ? (Look at the 2 pictures i have uploaded).
I hope to have an answer quick. And i hope i can fix it.
Did you watch the video? http://www.repairsuniverse.com/motorola-droid-4-take-apart-repair-guide.html
it's for replacing the LCD, but shows most of the flex cable take apart.
only need to heat when replacing the LCD.

Yeah i have already watched it but i don't know what to do to with the part of the flex cable that connects to the screen cable.
My phone started losing battery even while charging, suddenly today. I assumed their was an issue with the charger or cable so I used another charger and cable, yet the battery kept depleting. Finally the battery hit zero and phone shut down. Now the phone doesn't even boot even when connected to power. It shows the LE eco boost splash and then the screen goes black and then The notification led BLINKS RED 3 times .If anyone has any idea with what's wrong with my Le 2 (x526) it would be a massive help.
